I discovered Tesoro hair design a few months ago and now I don't like going anywhere else to get my hair cut. Maurizio, the owner, is a really nice guy and he knows how to style hair. You can tell that he has been doing it for a long time and takes pride in his work. I've had my hair cut by him three times and I've been very happy with the results every time. The atmosphere at Tesoro is really laid back and comfortable. When you arrive you are greeted by Maurizio or one of the other stylists and usually offered a water or a cup of coffee. It's a nice touch and I think it speaks to the level of service that they provide. You can make an appointment but they also take walk ins. If you walk in though, you may have to wait a while. So, I would recommend making an appointment, especially if you're going on the weekend. As a guy, you really can't beat the value. For the price point $20 you get a professional haircut and wash. You are going to pay close to that at any one of the corporate hair cutting places where they tend to do a poor job and rush you in and out. I was kind of uncomfortable with the fact that after discussing what I would like done, I sat there and the guy just did what he wanted ( which wasn't much}. This review is just for the hairstylist Rudi. -It was almost an hour past my appointment time by the time he finished cutting someone else's hair. I had enough time to pick up my breakfast and eat it in the time I waited for him to finish -he did not seem sorry about it when he finally beckoned me to the chair -while I tried to tell him what I was looking for in the cut and style, not only did he act impatient, he talked over me and belittled what I had to say by repeating himself ("I'm cutting just a little") to try to quiet me from tell him what I was looking for. - I was trying to figure out if I should get bangs and he rudely said "if you get bangs then you have to straighten them" - I have curly hair and have seen many people pull off curly fringe so this was a shock to hear from a stylist - finally, after he pressured me to let him start cutting my hair, I saw he had definitely not listened to what I had told him (thank goodness it was before he started cutting) -then another stylist stood up for me, and told him that he wasn't listening to me and that I was talking about a specific technique for cutting curly hair (that he had claimed that he knew about, but obviously did not!) -I asked if she (the other stylist) could cut my hair (she was completely booked) - then he patted me on the shoulder and put his face in front of mine and said in a mocking way "yes, go to her, go to her" and rested his hand on my shoulder. obviously- that hindered me from leaving the chair - in which I said "DO NOT TOUCH ME" -he took his time taking that hand off my shoulder! - I immediately left the salon - the female stylist came out and apologized to me and said that he had issues (he obviously does) -Macho, disrespectful men like this infuriate me- don't give him your time or money!! read more

I had a new client appt with Justine today as I moved here very recently from Florida! She is super personable and was able to match my color formula to what I was previously. She gave me a full Blow dry and flat iron for a fantastic price! Loved the salon atmosphere, cozy and booked my next appt! It is in downtown Raleigh, parking is on the street close to NC State, fyi. Great place for a quality haircut. I had a job interview and my usual stylist flaked out on me. Maurizio was the only stylist on Glenwood willing to fit me in at the last minute, and I'm very happy that he did. He was super friendly, and did a great job on my hair. I have very fine and straight hair so it can be a challenge to cut. Maurizio took his time and cut my hair up nice! He also gave me some good advice on styling and keeping my hair looking great. I have been getting my hair cut here for over two years now. Its a great little spot that gives you plenty of attention and a great price point. I typically see Nicole but have had my hair cut by everyone in the shop and can say, while each has their own style, all do a fantastic job. I used to live 5 minutes away and worked even closer. Now I travel from Chapel Hill just to see them. Check them out!!! I stumbled across this place when looking to get some highlights for the first time. Niccole and Maurizio were extremely welcoming to me (and have been at repeat visits). They made you feel like you were a friend visiting, offering you coffee or water, helping to make you feel at ease. Niccole is the resident color specialist who has worked on my highlights. She's helpful in making suggestions for what colors could work with your skin tone and patient in letting you look at all the hair color "swatches." Not to mention, she does an excellent job! I wanted my hair professionally styled for a formal occassion since it does not hold a curl and I was very impressed by my hair dresser's work! I got my hair curled and not only did all the curls stay the whole night, but I also got it done at a very reasonable price which is hard to find these days. I've been getting my hair cut by Maurizio, the owner, for about a year now and have had excellent experiences every time. I moved back to raleigh about 3.5 years ago and struggled for 2.5 of those years finding a barber that I really liked. I used to get a cut every week and have tailored back to every other week since leaving the military and have yet to have a bad experience at Tesoro. Everyone that works there is professional, kind, and well-mannered and definitely understands the importance of customer service. I haven't used anyone else at Tesoro for my cuts but I can see from other customers that everyone is very skilled in their craft. When you arrive, You're greeted with a warm welcome and offered coffee or a bottle of water before your haircut. They also do a great job of maintaining a friendly and welcoming atmosphere while you're there. As far as price is concerned, it's very affordable for a quality experience I would expect of a much more expensive barber. The location is great as well; It's right on glenwood south in the middle of a ton of great places to eat or grab a drink. I don't think I'll go anywhere else as long as I'm in Raleigh. read more
