    Club BLT
    Curt T.

This sandwich was ok. The first half was better as the tomatoes and other ingredients made the second half more soggy and not as delicious. The bacon was pretty crispy so that was good. Service was ok. Average sandwich. What I wanted was the cheese steak roll but they were out of the rolls so would have had to get it in a wrap which I didn't want so got the club BLT instead.

I love Test Kitchen! I walk here from work and Mack is always welcoming. I've tried a handful of things from the menu and they've all been great!

Can't leave Yelp Tips anymore but this place is closed 11/14/2022-11/25/2022. Didn't get to try anything and didn't want to knock their star rating. Maybe I'll try it some other time.

Great place to grab a bite, friendly staff and max goes out of his way to make the customer like at home. I grab the buffalo chicken sandwich, the chicken was juicy and tasteful. Recommend this place.

    Caesar Chicken Wrap

First time here! Really good Caesar wrap excited to go back now that I know how close it is to my work. Welcoming and nice staff, clean and cute place as well. So happy my coworker told me about this place.

It can get pretty busy so come early to prep. Seating: Chill plenty of seating both inside and outside. Good for small groups with room for about 30 people. Vibes: Welcome to Normal Heights nothing too flashy, just plenty of local eateries and businesses. The spot itself is relatively clean, modern, pretentious. I dig the 90s house music in the background. This seems to be a trusted neighborly coffee shop with students are working, friends are catching up, and regulars seem to know the staff by name. It helps there's a pizza shop next door as well. FOOD / DRINKS Cherie Amour (Recommend) Delish. A latte with housemade cherry and almond syrup, and if you get it iced, it comes topped with a little cold foam. I dig the sweetness and the fruitiness of the cherry, it balanced out the bitterness of the coffee which was pretty cool. CUSTOMER SERVICE Friendly and welcoming. Sara helped contribute to the neighborhood feel of the place and made the experience easy and enjoyable. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. Good coffee, reasonable prices, and a pleasant atmosphere. I know there are plenty of coffeeshops in SD but this is a cool neighborly one. It doesnt seem like a trendy place but a place more in community and steady service. Till next time, Scrimshaw! TIPS * Try the seasonal drinks--they get creative.

It's been over 8 years since I've last came to Scrimshaw Coffee & Wow! It seems like they extended…read morethe menu as well-- as they have lots more food options & from what it looks like natural wine and beer too...which is interesting for a coffee shop. They are connected with the business (Love Letters Pizza) next door with an arched wall. The interior has changed, they now have new seating and they painted the walls different color. The tables are a little wonky, but I appreciate the fake marble top they got on it. It looks classy from a far with the interior lighting. I sadly missed their May Special, Blueberry Malt Latte! I love anything malt, so sad it is already gone (it's June now lol). They dropped their summer specials on their Instagram and the first one looked incredible. This was their version of an Aussie classic, they call it "Mont Blanc." It consisted of cold brew with orange syrup, topped with a vanilla-orange cold foam, finished with grated orange zest and nutmeg. I would never order this again, personally. I usually love vanilla orange in my coffee/espresso drinks, however this one really missed the mark for me. The orange tasted too forward and slightly bitter. Even the first sip from the lid, I knew I wouldn't be able to drink this down (I don't like wasting drinks or money). I offered it to my mom, who usually enjoys this sort of flavor profile as well, and it was a huge miss. She couldn't drink it either (nor could my brother who also ordered the same one as me). Within 10 min of driving with it, it had separated and looked very unappealing. Next time, I would maybe request their tangerine cold foam on a regular iced latte. I finally love citrus with my drinks-- maybe this one would be more up my alley. Or wait another month for different specials. Since it's been a while, I would love to come in the day time-- we came around 5:33 pm ! They close at 6pm which is pretty cool since most coffee shops close at 2-3 pm. The workers were very kind and welcoming despite us coming near closing time & the music was very nice. They have a handful of interior seating and outside seating as well! Despite the one drink being terrible, I wouldn't write them off for that -- they have a large menu and lots more for us to try! Come swing by!

The coffee is also pretty strong and would highly recommend for a boost. The white truffle tiramisu was a bit sweeter than the egg brulee but it honestly had the perfect level of sweetness to it. Would highly recommend ordering both flavors! Service was excellent! We received our orders quickly and the cashier was kind. There is a good amount of seating in the cafe and it was pretty packed with people working there on a Monday afternoon. A nice spot to do work or hang out with friends! Plenty of parking out in front in a lot with other shared businesses. Would recommend!

This time I came back for the matcha as part of my self-appointed mission to try every matcha einspanner I can find. It's healthy because it's green. The verdict? This one definitely earned a spot near the top of my list. The matcha is a little on the sweet side, which was a treat for me. The sweetness is offset by the creamy topping that had a hint of saltiness. Definitely different from the others i've tried! Bonus points for the easy parking! No circling the lot questioning my life choices before getting caffeine. I'll definitely be back to continue my very serious and highly scientific Matcha Einspanner research.

Cutest bakery/brunch spot ever!! We came straight from Pilates craving coffee and a sweet treat,…read moreand this place definitely DELIVERED. Everything in the pastry case looked so good it was genuinely hard to choose. All the pastries were super well balanced flavor-wise, and the pastry itself was buttery, flaky, and perfectly baked. The croissant especially was sooo buttery and crisp on the outside while soft inside with the perfect amount of filling. The coffee was also rich, creamy, and delicious, and everything came out surprisingly fast even though it was pretty busy. Not a ton of seating inside and it definitely gets PACKED on weekends, but we managed to snag a little table on the back patio which made it such a cute spot to sit and catch up. Overall such a perfect weekend brunch/coffee date spot. Will definitely be back to try more pastries because I was eyeing basically everything behind the counter.

However, the food here was painfully mediocre. The panino alle verde was listed on the menu as a tomato and eggplant sandwich with mozzarella and basil. However, it was actually a tomato paste (no actual pieces of tomato found) with small pieces of eggplant sprinkled on top sandwich with a big, cold clump of mozzarella. It was okay taste-wise but charging $15 for such a simple and lackluster sandwich (that one could easily make at home) is insane to me even for San Diego pricing. The vanilla crossiant was so soggy that even the ends were soggy. There was no crunch, no crumbly flakes, just a sad, dense pastry with custard in the middle. The only saving grace of this croissant was the vanilla custard which was creamy, not too sweet, and had a nice vanilla flavor (you could see the vanilla bean specks). However, the custard did not make this croissant worth eating and the only part of the croissant I ate was the custard filling. While I was eating my food, I was surprised at how crowded this place was considering I found the food to be very mediocre. There was a constant line and everyone seemed to be ordering the croissants. I'm not sure if these people were just tourists or regulars whose only reference for baked goods and sandwiches were subway or 7-eleven, but I know that there are tons of better bakeries in San Diego. Even freaking Costco has way better pastries and sandwiches than this place and will not charge you $25 for one small sandwich and one soggy croissant. Note: I found out about this place because I asked A.I. to find "hidden gems" in San Diego. This is what I get for trusting A.I.
