    Bee's Knees, Mr. Sunshine

If you have a sweet tooth more than you have tastebuds for matcha or coffee, this shop is probably for you. Upon trying my drink and what two others ordered, it seems their beverages heavily rely on other flavors, such as lavender or honey, as well as fancy garnishes and spices, such as mint, rosemary, and pink salt. When you take away all of the fancy stuff and get 25% sweet like I did, my seasonal matcha (Mr. sunshine - basically banana matcha), had little to no matcha flavor. The lavender matcha my friend ordered had a nice floral lavender taste with mild matcha flavor. The breakfast sausage croissant was not bad. Texture of the croissant was lightly fluffy with a crispy exterior. Aesthetics are on point. It's a cute shop and they present their drinks beautifully. Service was quite fast, given the line. They are also dog friendly.

Came on a sunny Sunday afternoon and surprisingly there was no wait! Parking can be hit or miss but it's worth it. I love the space itself. Very bright and open, has a few larger tables outside, and open seating inside. The menu is a little overwhelming- there's so many choices! Usually I just like a classic matcha but decided I should get one of the specialities since that's what they're known for. Ended up going with the Bodhi Boy, which is matcha with lavender and vanilla, and subbed oat milk. I loved it! The lavender wasn't too overwhelming and the vanilla helped cut some of the floral taste. My friend got the Twisted Sister which had rosemary and fig and it was super unique. Another friend got the seasonal hojicha and it was very sweet. Would recommend getting light sweetener if you get that one. Loved the little flower decor on each of the drinks! Great spot for a cute coffee date with friends.

I loved the coffee here. The vibe is really nice (light, plants, etc). Worth the wait

Cute coffee shop in north park. Have a cool stadium style seating section in the back corner along with indoor and outdoor table seating and bar top seating. Loved The Bees Knees coffee I got - perfectly balanced and delicious flavors. Parking is going to be street parking which can be tough depending on when you go but it's worth a stop in no matter what. They also have a little shop section with snacks and alternative drink options.

I really like how open this place is and how much seating they have both inside and outside. As it was my first time here, it took me a bit of time to figure out what I wanted and the baristas weren't very patient with me trying to read the menu and figure it out. I'm not sure what the issue was since there was literally no one else in line behind me. I ended up going with one of their seasonal drinks, the Rizzler, which is a strawberry and dark chocolate coffee drink. My first did not taste like the ingredients at all. I wouldn't have known there was strawberries in the drink if I hadn't seen the menu. It was a very muddled tasting drink where you couldn't really pick out any of the flavors, but they also didn't blend seamlessly together. It was weird. I usually take 2-3 days to finish a cup of coffee, but this was not tasty the 2nd day and I ended up just dumping whatever I had left. 2.5 stars

Lovesong is truly a gem!! I love this cafe, their matcha has to be some of the best matcha I've had. I ordered the double down bee and it was phenomenal. The matcha is very smooth, and the blend of the flavors really came together nicely. The cafe itself is a cute location, the inside is very open and neat. Also the staff were very helpful, highly recommend

    Bee's Knees - iced

I went to Verbatim books & then I felt like some caffeine. I spotted this large, airy & bright coffee shop and went in to grab something unique. They don't have a menu board but they do have a QR code menu & there was one laminated menu at the counter which was tiny. I browsed the offerings on my phone & I ordered The Bees Kneez - honey, vanilla, cinnamon, smoked salt, espresso + milk. These are flavors that I often gravitate toward so I figured it'd be a win. Service was fine. A few minutes later, my iced drink was ready & I sipped it. Very mild flavors with cinnamon being the most prevalent and the coffee taste was extremely light. So this drink was unoffensive, but also underwhelming. For $7.50, I'd like it to be a bit more nuanced! There's nothing about this place besides the initial cute aesthetics that would make me go out of my way to come here again. On the plus side, they sell stellar snacks here & I love them! So, the verdict on Lovesong is if you like multi-layered & flavorful coffee drinks at all, don't order what I did. They have lots of indoor and some outdoor seating which makes working here or hanging out pleasant. Peace.

    Pool Party matcha

We were in the area during the weekday farmers market and found ourselves in this super cute cafe to take a break. We got their Pool Party matcha and I loved how they infused mango into a refreshing matcha drink. Bonus points that it wasn't overly sweet! The staff was very friendly and pointed me in the right direction with their recommendations. We had our baby with us in a stroller and it was nice that this cafe was fairly stroller-friendly. We found a spot to sit and chill in their cool stadium-style seating area. Would return!

    Old West and Islander lattes

This was my second visit to Love Song. The employees are super helpful and chill, and the environment is cozy. I think it's relaxing to stay and chill for a moment while sipping coffee. Their coffee flavors are more adventurous than other coffee shops, which definitely makes it stand out! I got the Old West, and my girlfriend got the Islander. Both were tasty! A bit on the milky side, but I personally like a stronger espresso taste in my lattes. I think Love Song is middle of the road. The coffee is good, but nothing to write home about. I would say it's worth checking out if you're in the area. Be warned! Parking is rough. Most of it is street parking.

Very cute coffee shop! I love the open air space and there is ample seating. The coffees are solid and the pastries are un memorable but great place to work from home!

My new favorite coffee spot, but it's also 900 miles from my home so I won't make it everyday! Kind staff and great selections of both food and drink. Very comfortable seating, both inside and out.

Sometimes a review doesn't require a lengthy pontification of how fabulous a place is. It speaks volumes when there is a continuous line, happy faces and repeat customers. This coffee shop presents with natural light, airy, spacious with tons of plants, protein bars, snacks, books, chachkies, and refrigerated items. The MATCHA is hands down one of the best I have tasted in any state. 5 stars across the board.

    Heather D.

Met a friend here on a Monday afternoon. Was definitely busy. They have indoor or outdoor seating and are dog friendly. I ordered the beez kneez latte hot. It was delicious. Just the right amount of sweetness and foam I also got the croissant sandwich. It was ok. Not a whole lot of flavor. Staff were super sweet. The also have a little grocery area of unusual food items and gift type stuff. Vibe is typical North Park and so is the parking.

After a day spent with my general contractor and having waited for an appliance pick-up service to show up, I was finally free and made my way to Modern Times Flavordome. In my quest to explore and familiarize myself with the North Park neighborhood, this was the latest brewery that was within walking distance from our place that I had to try. Founded and opened in the San Diego's Point Loma neighborhood in 2013 by Jacob McKean, they were California's first employee-owned brewery and rapidly expanded into several locations along the West Coast. Over the next decade, the craft beer industry started to constrict, a mismanaged over-expansion, the pandemic, and scandal led to the downfall of its founder in 2021, new leadership, and then eventual new ownership by Maui Brewing Co. and contract brewing handled by local AleSmith Brewing Co. Today, only two standalone locations remained along with an added coffee line. Did I enjoy the flavors of their modern time beer!? PURCHASE(S) Modern Times Beer Orderville Hazy NEIPA Beer 7.2% ABV 16floz Draft ($6.00 HH): Hazy orange color, citrusy dank hoppy aroma, low body, citrusy dry hoppy flavor, drying finish, and citrusy dry hoppy aftertaste. Modern Times Beer Tropicolossal IPA Beer 6.8% ABV 16floz (Draft $9.50): Rich amber color, fruity mango pineapple tropical aroma, light body, fruity mango pineapple sweet flavor, smooth finish, and fruity mango pineapple tropical aftertaste. This was my favorite of the bunch! "Velvet Goldmine Original Soundtrack" Used CD ($6.95): An out-of-print CD from a fun movie, I had to add this to my expansive music collection! Modern Times Beer Fruited Orderville Guava Hazy IPA Beer 7.0% ABV 16floz Can 4pk ($16.00): Hazy orange color, citrusy fruity guava papaya tropical aroma, light body, fruity guava tropical flavor, creamy finish, and citrusy guava papaya tropical aftertaste. SERVICE I was initially greeted by a friendly young gentleman behind the bar where I grabbed a stool, made myself at home for a couple of hours with 2026 FIFA World Cup matches on, and drank the afternoon away. Eventually, a young woman appeared behind the bar. Each one chatted a bit, made beer recommendations, and quickly served my beer - cheers! PARKING (Varied: FREE this instance): I simply walked the fine minutes from my place. Otherwise, there appeared to be some spots along the main drag of Upas St. and all surrounding roads (I didn't notice any lots) - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE An open interior layout with a spacious outdoor patio, each area had many tables and chairs. The interior was a sight to see with lampshades hung from the ceiling, newspaper wallpaper, globes wallpaper covered the bathroom, and there were crates of vinyl and CDs for purchase. This was a funky groovy place! Plenty of natural lighting entered through the wall windows and doors, but I honestly couldn't recall whether or not there were any ceiling lights (I'm sure there were). There was at least one TV while classic rock & roll music played in the background. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL It was a chill afternoon spent at Modern Times Flavordome, and I would definitely return. They had a decent selection of beers on tap, no served food so bring your own, the prices were comparable, the vibe was kick-back, and the service was very good. I'm sure furry family members were allowed on the patio, there were Happy Hour specials (MO-FR 12pm-5pm), and almost certain nightly entertainment such as trivia, music, and more were available. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $81.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

I like my morning drinks iced, and I still ordered the bibingka latte, but it came without ice -- I ended up having to grab some from another restaurant since my work doesn't have a fridge. I was also excited for the longanisa sandwich, but they didn't have any hot sandwiches. What they did have was cheese rolls, a guava-filled ensaymada, and pandesal. The pastries were frozen, so he had to warm them up, which took a while. On the drink, I'd give it a 2.5/5. It was OK, but not something I'd order again. It was a balance of sweet and savory, with hints of rice flour and coconut milk -- but even ordering it less sweet, it still came out too sweet for me. The pastries were also just OK. My favorite of the bunch was the ensaymada. I really wanted to love this place given the concept, but between the missing ice, no hot sandwiches, and the frozen pastries, it didn't quite come together this visit.
