We were lucky to be in Mexico City on Valentines Day. They really take it seriously here, love is in the air everywhere. Niki wanted Mole Poblano Chicken and luckily Testal in Roma had exactly that. It is a very classy restaurant with excellent staff and professional friendly service. We ordered cocktails, bone marrow sores, guacamole, chicken breast mole pablano, pablano chili Arellano, and Mexican tiramisu. Everything was expertly prepared and absolutely delicious. Cocktails and a snack were on the docket when we landed here and Testal did not disappoint. The cocktails are amazing, really. We split a ceviche that was chock full of mango, jicama and cucumber and SO very tasty. I loved the outdoor area and that they are serious about being dog friendly. My family and I visited the Centro location. Such a disappointment, I feel like we got scammed. We ordered the guacamole and 2 orders of the arracherra tacos. The guacamole never made it to the table and they brought the steak entree instead of the tacos, which were twice the price. When we tried to ask the waiter he just blew us off. Service was excellent--Jorge was super kind, attentive, and especially patient with our teenager who's still working on her Spanish I ordered the seasonal omelette, and it was amazing--the cream of corn sauce brought everything together perfectly. We also had the green chilaquiles, which were super flavorful, and another omelette that came with spinach and other goodies--I think it had a corn tortilla covered in egg, which was different and delicious. Amazing - first impression of Mexico City cuisine. Husband found this place just around the corner from our accommodation. No reservation necessary for a late Friday evening dinner (8:30pm). We were seated right away. Service fantastic. They spoke broken English but enough for us to communicate, and our friend with his broken Spanish to make it seamless. They were great about making recommendations, kept the table clear when necessary, and overall made us feel right at home. Food was amazing... Started with the Steak and Bone Marrow Tacos...omfg, out of this world. Sucking pig sandwich was also very yummy - I'd give that a solid 5/5. Next came my Chile poblano with Steak and the Lamb deep Fried tacos, both incredibly delicious. They offered corn tortillas to accompany the Chile poblano dish which I highly recommend doing. read more

We wanted to have a special dining experie ce for lunch today and we found this reataurant after doing a search online. The reataurant is conveniently located to the hotel we are ataying at so it made it easy to walk here. The restaurant was fairly busy when we got there, and we were greeted immediately and offered a nice table near the front. My husband decied that he would try somethig completely new, and he went for the pulpo adobado a las brasas,. It was grilled octopus that included a house salad and potato wedges. I wasn't quite so daring and I ordered the borrego Testal and it consisted of barbeque style lamb meat. He gave a big thumbs up for the octopus, and I thought my entre was even better! This place is definitely upscale n my view, and every part of the dining experience was well thought out. Inluding the fine tableware and table cloths. We both really enjoyed it! read more

The service was excellent but the food was sub-par. The lettuce tasted old, the octopus was fishy and tough and the screens all over the restaurant distracted from the ambiance. The presentation is on point so that pictures look good, but the food doesn't taste good. The salsa was not enjoyable. Above all, it was expensive for not that great of food. Testal is definitely a more formal option here in CDMX. White tablecloth, and more elaborate dishes, service was incredible and while compared to some other places around, Testal is a bit pricey. If you're coming from the states or Europe you will find it is more than reasonable. Actually a pretty great deal for the quality of food. My only Recomendation is to lean into their menu, don't come here looking for traditional rustic Mexican food. This place is modern and vibrant! Totally worth a shot if you're looking to get off the street for a Moment and relax with some good ambiance and great food! We had the stuffed poblano and cactus soup, both were good but the portions weren't huge. Still absolutely recommend d for anyone looking for a more upscale option in the area. read more

It look forever to get our food and when the waitress brought it out it was NOT the chicken I ordered. The chicken she brought wasn't breaded and it was covered with some kind of sauce. I told her it wasn't what I ordered and she insisted it was. It definitely WAS NOT what I ordered. I even pointed it out to her and said "Milanese chicken, breaded chicken breast" when I ordered. Finally she agreed to bring me the Milanese chicken. Unfortunately, I had to wait another 20 or so minutes to get it (I do understand they had to cook it) It was a frustrating dinner experience. My dining partner was finished with his meal way before I was able to eat my meal. Oh, the chicken was okay, not great. A good meal for a child or someone who likes plain food. Wow what an amazing gem we stumbled upon on a side street that goes to Chinatown. The dishes were amazing and so well flavored. This place was recommend by our hotel so we were a little skeptical but the food and service won our hearts. We also got to meet the chef, he has a gastronomic background and worked at the world renowned Pujol. This place offers fantastic classic Mexican fare with a twist of creativity and exotic flavors. The wine was perfectly chilled to out liking and I think we are learning more and more about Mexican wine. They have a great boutique wine selection. They start the table off with chips that are in no way oily- these are baked with no salt. The real deal of baked tortilla chips. So some people might not appreciate the authenticity of chips and salsa this way. The prices are very reasonable for such a gastronomic authentic Mexican food experience. I highly recommend dinning here! This place is going to be one of the best new restaurants, so go now before you have to be on a long waiting list to get this food and wine experience. read more

Was able to easily seat our table of 10 quickly during a busy Sunday afternoon in the Zocalo. The menu is a very unique take on Mexican cuisine and the food was all yummy. I had the tacos de lechero al pastor (suckling pig tacos marinated in pastor sauce) which were good but not excellently executed - the pieces of meat were too big and not soft enough to bite through. There was only one piece of pineapple for each taco and it would have been better chopped up so you could get some in every bite. But the flavor was good. Dessert was amazing. Beautiful presentation and great balance of flavors. The mandarin mousse was so beautiful and flavorful! Loved the cajeta lava cake too. Service was very attentive and friendly. I was eager to go to Testal. I found it disappointing. It's very busy. That was ok. It's usually a good sign. And the greeters who sat me were very nice, as was the waiter. My guess is they were under-staffed tonight. My waiter was pretty slow to bring things. But he also made bad decisions like dropping off my dinner and then putting another table's order into the kitchen before getting me a spoon that I needed and should have been provided with my dinner. The flautas were just ok. Too tightly wrapped if you ask me, creating too much tortilla with every bite. And the beef inside was too dry. The beef and bone marrow tacos sounded like an awesome idea but they didn't prepare the bone marrow correctly so it really didn't have great depth of flavor. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't real tasty. I should say that the tamarind margarita was absolutely delicious. I guess I'd come back but only if there were only not great alternatives. One last thing: the bar was almost completely covered with dirty glasses, and this was right next to the clean glasses. This is during Covid. Pretty unsanitary, and a bit gross. read more

Sometimes you end up at a great restaurant just be chance and Testal is one of those on my list. It was the Chinese New Year and my wife and I had planned to try out Chinese food at Chinatown. Seeing the crowd and long line-ups, we thought of trying out Testal and were pleasantly surprised. The food is a nice take on Mexican Cuisine - if am not wrong, it's some fusion of chinese and mexican. We asked for a English speaking waiter and he prompted us some of the specialities. Our first choice had an hour wait time, so a quick internet search lead us to this restaurant and what a wonderful experience it was! The service was amazing from the first moment. We were quickly seated and attented. The waiter was very attentive and answered our questions kindly and even gave us suggestions. We ordered the tamales as an appetizer and they were delicious. I ordered the crepas poblanas and I loved every bite of it. The sauce was so on point, and all the flavors of the sauce, cheese and chicken filling complememted each other very nicely. My dad ordered the chicken breast with mayonnaise or something like that and he loved it too. Everyone I went with ended up deeply satisfied with the food. I highly recommend this place. read more

First let me say that this has to be one of the nicer restaurants in the area. White table clothes, nice decor, and exceptional service. The menu was varied and would be considered higher end Mexican.....definitely not your standard fare. The diner I had was excellent. The mole was exceptional and the pork was cooked perfectly. The Lentil soup was very good as well. If I had a gripe I thought the salsas were a bit on the bland side for my taste. Dinners run between $120 and $210 pesos. This is perfect restaurant for a couple or a date and probably not the type of fare children would appreciate. You can tell there is a real pride of ownership here. read more
