Our group of 7 were exploring Polanco during the Festival of Flowers and were able to get a last minute reservation at Porfirio's for dinner, or just walked in. The restaurant was extremely lively and it seemed like it would be a great place for a birthday dinner and groups. All of the kids ordered from the kids menu and my daughter really enjoyed the fettucine with butter and bacon. She didn't love the lemonade, which was probably made with limes and a bit tart for her liking. The adults shared a variety of things because we had a large lunch. A highlight was the mini trompo of al pastor, which made delicious tacos. We also shared the shrimp tacos with a fresh shrimp and a generous smear of black beans. The elote came in a little corn boat and was very rich with mayonnaise and cheese. The chicken milanesa was surprisingly heavy, with a cream corn sauce, rajas and mushrooms. The was a roving mariachi band and they were very good, adding to the lively environment and ambiance. We skipped dessert, but were still given oblejas, the sweet wafer dessert. Worth every penny! The restaurant is well decorated and every so often you may get mariachis. The service defines exceptional. Waiters are there to attend to your every need every single second. They are also courteous and happy to help with recommendations. The food is amazing, do not shy away from asking the "spicy" sauces like salsa negra y la maldita. They are mildly spicy. Another five star restaurant around Polanco district. Staff made a significant impression on us with all the professionalism and dedication. They have an iPad with English menu that has pictures and some Video clips of how the food is presented. Very thoughtful. Tried grilled octopus. Well presented, tasty. All good. Had salmon ceviche. Lots of mango but no complaints there. Friend had one of the signature drinks with tequila. He was happy. You know.....you find a place for lunch where the interior looks great with awesome music and so you go in expecting awesome service and food. Unfortunately, the service was pretty bad. Ordered starters and never received them. Ordered a gin and tonic and he measured it out in front of me in a shot glass and didn't fill it to the top because there was not enough gin in the bottle. Didn't bother getting another bottle. Ordered wine and brought out the wrong bottle. Eventually it was corrected. The next issue was clearing plates as people finished, instead of clearing the table together as a whole. Next was table side food was not done table side. Dessert served frozen. Told one of the waiters and his response was I will get you a steak knife. Anyway, food wasn't too bad, but the service over shadowed the entire experience. read more

one of the coolest restaurants i've been to in cdmx!! i came on a friday night and it was such a fun vibe. this is not the place to go to if you want a relaxing quiet dinner. the music is LOUD but so fun, with screens showing their corresponding music videos. the mariachi come's on at 9:30, so be mindful when making reservations (you're definitely going to need a reservation btw- it's v busy). when the mariachi leaves the dj cranks up the music even louder and sparklers get handed out to everyone- so so fun! now for food, i can drool just thinking about it. the raw tuna tostadas are a MUST. the were so so delicious and melt in your mouth. cocktails are amazing and are prepared right in front of you. the aguachile was quite possibly one of the best things i've ever eaten oh my goodness. so so delicious. our steak was seared right in front us! i will absolutely be coming back one day. my only complaint was we were seated on the terrace so we weren't quite as in the middle of the action as i would have liked- so next time i will be sure to sit right in the middle! read more

Service very slow, had to wave down our waiter to order. Once we did the food came in after within a normal duration. The waiters and chefs definitely pay attention to detail it a good way. Chili Rellenos- this came with a side of rice and beans. This was cheesy and tasted good Shrimp tacos - this was good. The purple onions on top made the tacos really good. Salmon mango ceviche - this was refreshing. It was just ok overall. Starters were good. My steak main came out very undercooked, and sides on the plate were cold. Sent it back and they took it off the bill. Ambiance may be good for some, but it was not for us. Decor is beautifully done, but noise level was way too high, and we were seated near tables with young kids. Basically the downsides of both a party/club vibe and family-friendly restaurant. Service was ok. In my opinion there are many better options in Polanco and CDMX more generally, especially for the price point. read more

I recommend The bone marrow with escamoles to give it that extra flavor. The escamole was good has an earthy nutty taste. Every dish was like a show had a nice presentation. I was so so shocked to see the poor ratings here on Yelp for this restaurant and really glad that I didn't listen to them. I came here with a party of five last week to celebrate a friend's birthday. They had a ton of availability which was nice although we did call ahead. As a group, we ordered five different appetizers, 5 entrees, about two drinks a person, and desserts. My personal favorites were the bone marrow, the tuna (and something) tostada, and the calamari. Everything that we ate was extremely fresh and delicious. Our food and drinks came out quickly and our server was never far away. Something that I love about the experience is that you get to watch a mixologist craft cocktails in front of you. It was like watching a very cool science experiment. My only complaint, if I had to make one was that my entree (friend chicken and pulled pork sandwich) was a bit dry, but everything else that I ate was incredible. Nice ambience, friendly service. Only complaint was the music was loud thus making us have to shout at times. There were 6 of us there on a Tuesday night for a business dinner. It was crowded. We split a variety of dishes including fideo, raw tuna tostada, pork pibil, grilled steak tacos, crispy tostadas with sauce, beef tacos and tacos al pastor. The steak tacos were delicious, pork pibil was so good and the tacos al pastor was amazing. The table side service and creative plate presentation were also appreciated. We stopped Porfirio's for some drinks after a day of exploring Polanco/el Bosque de Chapultepec. My feet were killing me, and I needed an afternoon break/pick-me-up. We stopped at Porfirio's because they have a bar, and we figured we could just have drinks (we had dinner reservations and weren't looking to eat in the afternoon). We did sit at the bar, but the bartenders at the bar didn't make the cocktails? There was a rolling cocktail cart that went around the restaurant making cocktails. While that was a little cool and retro, it also meant that it was hard to get drinks! We waited a while for service! Even if you asked the bartenders at the bar, you still had to wait for the cocktail cart! We were there in late afternoon, and the restaurant looked very busy! I can only speak to our cocktail experience. The cocktails were good, but the waits made it just an all right experience. I would check it out again, but it wasn't one of my favorite spots we tried in the city! read more

When the four of us sat down, I was disappointed at first because the table was so large and it seemed my friend across the table were far away. I later learned we would need that room! We started with cocktails although the cocktail menu was not in English. The tequila menu was impressive as was the selection of alcohol labels.I started with the lychee martini but substituted vodka. It was perfect. I liked the creative serving. It came in a "tray" with an empty glass with rose pedals in it and the skewered lychee in the side. The drink was poured to the rim. Then we all shared the Costilla de Res Porfirio's. This dish consists of a platter of deboned ribs that had been slow cooked for 8 hours. OMG yummy. I made some great tacos with it. If I came back, it would be hard not to order that again. Since I was pretty full, I decided on a smaller dish for my main. I had the pescado al pastor which is the grilled catch of the day marinated with achiote, pineapples, cilantro, and onion. I also ordered a side of beans. My friend had a squash blossom quesadilla and we split both. Both were good. For dessert we ordered the baked plaintain with dulce de leche ice cream. The presentation was amusing as it was served on top of a truck that had dry ice steam coming out. Delicious! I liked the shape of the large square plates and the service was great; they frequently changed the plates out. The lights went up and down depending on if we had to read or not. Music was on full vibe in the background. Decor was pleasant. Serving pieces continued to amuse. I would come back here. I enjoyed our dinner. read more

Porfirio's was by far an awesome eating experience. From the moment you walk until you leave. The first thing that happens is your temperature. Then you walk into this machine that looks like a metal detector but it gently sprays you with water and alcohol. The kids loved that. Then they sit you. The menu is digital so you scan it with your phone. They bring you three different salsas, a tomato paste, and beans with tostadas to start. Once your food arrives, the fun begins. The food is brought in mini carts, trajineras, and they even have a mini plate of al pastor on a turning stake. Other food is brought in grills and plates.. I ordered Tiesos de res de abobada which are 6 meat tacos. Let me tell you that presentation is everything. They where six mini tacos that are hanging on a thin rope with mini clothes pins with sauce and onion. The wife ordered tacos de canasta and they came in a mine cart with an umbrella. My son ordered demos de Pollo or chicken fingers with fries and my daughter ordered albondigas con arroz. Drinks looked awesome if you drink. The prepare them right in front of your table. He food is full of flavor and filling but let's not forget about dessert. We ordered ice cream. But this was no ordinary ice cream. It was made at your table. The flavor was caramel and they pour liquid nitrogen until its nice and creamy. It certainly did not last especially with the choice of toppings they offered. I was not disappointed. The service was what you would expect from this type of restaurant. Servers were attentive and made you feel welcomed. At the end of our eat we were served commentary caramel popcorn. They were delicious. Porfirio's decor is above standard so if.you want fancy then fancy you will get. It's not black tie so you can definitely dress casual buttons wouldn't hurt to dress it up. Fun party atmosphere inside. Loud music, music videos on screens and constant big displays at tables make it a place you are always looking around at but not easy to talk with your table (if that is what you are looking to do). We had cocktails made right at the table. Appetizers are excellent. We had the guacamole which was soft and flavorful. We also had baby calamari with some amazing salsas. Then for main courses we had shrimp tacos, steak with marrow and marinated roast pork. All had excellent flavors and very abundant amount of food. Service was very attentive constantly switching out plates, bringing more of anything that was running out and checking on us constantly. Kids had churros for desert and presentation was excellent and the dips for the churros were very flavorful. Liked how they took pains to make everything a very unique tasting experience. My favorite restaurant for a family dinner. The food is great but I'm not sure what's happened lately with the service. Unfortunately, the day we had dinner there in April we were forgotten for must of the night. Only half of our dinner arrived and the rest 40 min later (nothing complicated only tacos and a quesadillas) no drinks refills either. We asked for the bill at least 5 times and it still took another 30 minutes to get it. Hope they get it together because the food is good. read more
