Had no idea a winery was even in existence in the South Bay, let alone Los Gatos! This is a really cute, small, hidden winery that has a lot of historical background too. When you first drive into the winery you see crosses on the gates of the entrance. Basically the winery used to be a religious convent type of thing for Catholic/Jesuit priests. Some of the priests do exist and maintain their practice at the winery but away from where visitors are. You could definitely tell you are on religious soil especially when you hear the old fashioned bell ringing. The winery itself is pretty small. It isn't the place where they grow and create their own wines, but they are more of a distributor type of place. They get wines all along Monterey and along the coast. It is $10 per person, but if you want to share then the 2 of you could both pay $10. There was four of us and we all shared. The man working there letting us taste the wine was super kind! He was very informative about the wines (well yah he works there but still). I really liked their Chardonnays. The first one I tried was really fruity. The red wines were more crisp and dry. I had to eat a bunch of their crackers to get the dry taste out of my mouth. You get to try at least 5 wines. The experience goes by pretty quickly. Basically if you buy a wine bottle you get $10 off because you wine tasted and do not even have to pay for the wine you tasted earlier... So.... We were suppose to pay $20 (two of us per wine tasting) but paid only $10 for wine tasting and got $10 off a bottle of wine my aunt bought. This place is a definite hidden gem. Testarossa is one of my first and favorite stops for wine tasting. I come here about once a month; we used to be wine club members. The tasting room is inside of an old wine cellar so even on the hottest days, it is nice and cool inside. Depending on the day, the tasting room gets really packed so be prepared that you may have to walk down into the wine cellar for more tasting space. They do make sure to accommodate everyone though! Last time we were here, Judy poured for us. She was very friendly and made wine tasting a lot of fun! I love that after wine tasting you can walk out on the patio and open your bottle or buy glasses of wine along with small plates and enjoy the sunshine. read more

Super cute local winery. I love that they have love music on the weekends, it definitely gives it a different vibe. The outside area is spacious and can accommodate a good amount of people. This winery is beautiful but unfortunately the guy pouring our tastings, (John Michael?)was a total jack ass. At one point he poured the next wine of glass for my two other friends and then walked away before pouring my glass. It took me 10 minutes to get his attention to pour my next tasting because he forgot me and he didn't even apologize. My friend brought her daughter and he made a big fuss about us bringing her. After that he pretty much ignored us and didn't pour our wine unless we flagged him down. The space is nice but what's the point if the customer service is bad. And if you don't want kids around please restrict them but don't allow them and then have your staff be rude to the parents. Not worth coming here. read more

I was not a fan of Pinot -- until I went to Testarossa. What a difference a thoughtfully created Pinot Noir is! Since going there in August of last year, I have become a member and have found there really aren't any bad wines at Testarossa. I include white wines in this -- even though I'm not a huge fan of white wines. In fact, I have found Testarossa wines are the bar to which I compare all others. The grounds here are really nice. They have a beautifully landscaped patio area with tables/chairs/umbrellas where you can step out to enjoy your glass of wine perhaps with some goodies you brought or bought in their tasting rooms (their pates and cheeses go really well with their wines, as you can imagine). The tasting room has a great feel to it -- cozy, old world feel to it. The staff are knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions about the wines you are tasting. If you are a fan of Testarossa, be sure to join their wine club. Many of their wines sell out quickly and by being a member you will be sure to not miss an extra-special release. read more

Testarossa is really tucked away up in the hills of Los Gatos. The tasting room is even a little hidden from the parking lot. There is an outdoor patio area where I've seen parties held. The indoor tasting room is very informal. Service is great and friendly. I love their Pinot, it's very memorable for me. Their other wines are nice too. This winery is gorgeous and a great place to enjoy a glass of wine. The tastings are $10 for 5 tastings. The staff is friendly and talkative. They talked us into joining the wine club! Their wines are pretty good and we really enjoyed the wine bar as well. The cheese plate is delicious and we got the bread platter to go with it which was delicious and more than enough for the four of us. Saturday was a lovely day to be outside so me and a girl friend decided to head here for a bit of outdoors relaxing time. Easy to find and get to without any windy uphill roads- lots of parking. They have some lovely buildings and a great outdoor patio with comfy lounge seats. We opted to sit in the patio and ordered their flight to share. They also serve food and have nice cold ice water for you to self serve. The wines themselves were all really good! They were all very smooth and had a creamy silky texture. They were on the more expensive side with our flight being $22 and most bottles above my usual price range ($30 and up for most). Service was very nice and informative. I think they also have some music series coming up so I'm excited to come again for those! read more

Never got to sit down, but it was a 45 minute wait and you're not allowed to get a glass of wine while you are waiting. "Wine bar" is quite a misnomer. I have had Testarossa wine before and it's not worth the wait. It gets one more star than I would have given because the ambience is nice and I am sure I would have enjoyed myself had I been able to get a drink. read more

An unbelievable show of elitism and favoritism towards winery members instead of the general public. We were originally told that our group could not be accommodated even though there were plenty of open tables and space in the tasting room and the wine bar. Talking with several employees, we were given conflicting messages on what we were allowed and not allowed to do. One employee told us we couldn't even eat the food we purchased from the winery outside (even though that was the only place we were allowed to be according to them). After eventually talking to several employees and a manager, we were told we could drink our wine outside in the pouring rain. We did not appreciate the fact that we could not be inside even when the weather was extremely cold and pouring hail and rain. Horrible experience and would never recommend that anyone visit this winery or purchase anything from them. Especially if you're a minority. read more

Beautiful location up the hill, nice scenery, excellent Pinot. I tried the red wine tasting, and then bought couple of their Pinot bottles (they use part of the tasting fee towards the bottle). They have Picnic tables outside, we got our own food from Sweat Pea in los gatos and had it with our wine. We did not try their restaurant which serves some appetizers and opens in the evening. Will plan a team outing here next time. read more

This is such a beautiful gem in the South Bay. A beautiful spot to try some wine and take in a little California history. Testarossa is primarily known for its Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. The Pinots are well known and generally fruit forward; the Chards are quite sophisticated and not the butter bombs you might find elsewhere. They also offer a few other wines; got to try the Novitiate Rose; watch for Syrah and a Meritage blend. NB: Your tasting experience will completely depend on when you go. Came here on a Tuesday afternoon and had a fantastic time trying the wines and discussing them with the woman who poured the wines. She was very knowledgable and I enjoyed my conversation. However, I think Yogi Berra wrote his famous dictum, "No one goes there anymore... it's too crowded" after seeing Testarossa's tasting room on a weekend afternoon. It gets so busy in there you can barely get close to the tasting "bar," and it's so noisy, you don't exactly feel like putting down roots. (One time there was a bachelorette party in there and... well, have you ever heard a group of loud, drunk, women woo-hooing in a stone building designed for good natural acoustics? Not really conducive to conversation or contemplation.) And if you're lucky, you might spy some donkeys! And I don't mean drunk jerks in the tasting rooms. ;) There are some donkeys that live on the winery's grounds. read more

A great winery in Los Gatos inside of a historic 19th century era building that housed Santa Clara University for many years. I love the wine bar for a pre-dinner glass of wine, they typically have a band in the evenings and are always serving delicious Testarossa wines. Testarossa sources most of their grapes from the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation which is located about an hour south of Testarossa's Los Gatos location. I really like the Pinot Noir that Testarossa offers. Nearly all the grapes are from SLH which produces some of the top Pinot grapes in California. read more

One of the nicest wineries I have been to. Beautiful grounds, and the history of the place certainly lends itself to a glass of wine and a walk around the place. Service was fantastic, and she made the tastings really fun for the four of us. We enjoyed the reds, bought a bottle, and sat outside to soak it all in. I suggest the Testarossa Pinots. Very good. I came here for wine tasting during the recent Santa Cruz Wine Passport day. It's just a little drive up from downtown Los Gatos. It was pretty crowded, but the staff was still friendly. I like the spacious tasting room and the cave entry to the room. Out of their 5 tastings that day, I enjoyed their Castello Chardonnay, Palazzio Pinot Noir, and Gary's Vineyard Pinot Noir. They were all good wines, but I didn't love them enough for me to take one home. I still like the David Bruce Pinots better. read more

This is a great little tasting room located not far from downtown Los Gatos. I came here as a part of my trek for passport week. They were pouring Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and a Syrah, as their flight for the day. It definitely has that refined and classy feel for a winery tasting room. Even though there was a large crowd, the staff was prompt and helpful. Wine Bar 107 is one my wife and my favorite date spots! We went here last night to celebrate our anniversary. We couldn't get there until 6:30, which is definitely later than ideal since they stop serving at 7:30 and close at 8. We were likely not going to get a table, but when the host realized that it was our anniversary, he found a way to squeeze us in after a 30-minute wait. They also gave each of us a complimentary taste of one of their pinots while we waited. This level of service was totally unexpected and unnecessary, but we were so grateful! Once we got seated, we ordered a couple glasses of wine and a cheese board. The wine was delicious! You can't get much smoother than a Testarossa pinot. The cheese board was also surprisingly large and diverse. Definitely enough to keep us munching while we enjoyed our wine and the live music. The setting is also gorgeous. You can't beat the patio at Testarossa on a warm summer evening. The only thing I would change about this place is longer (later) hours and more food options. But if you don't think of this as dinner, then you won't be disappointed! And if you do want dinner, you can fill up on their various cheese, charcuterie, and seafood plates if you don't mind paying for them :) read more

Picked up friends from SFO and stopped here on the way to Santa Cruz and Monterey. Beautiful historic building and property. They have a large patio which overlooks part of the property that is very comfortable and relaxing. Ordered a bottle of RRV Pinot Noir (very good) and also a charcuterie and cheese plate (both good but on the expensive side). Could not have picked a better spot to have a couple glasses of wine and some snacks. One added bonus, the parking lot fills up but there is a complimentary valet service to take care of parking. Will remember to stop in again when in this area. read more

I had no idea a winery existed so close to my hometown of San Jose. We ended up at Testarossa Vineyards to take pictures for XMas and figured...what the heck, let's try the tasting. First off....it's very beautiful inside, small, but nice. We paid $10 each for the tasting and we had 6 different wines. A Chardonnay, 2 different Pinot Niors, a Merlot, a White Zin and a Syrah. Plus the tasting price goes towards a bottle - if you end up buying one....so it was worth it. The first lady who "helped" us...poured our first wine and didn't even tell us what it was - then left and helped other people and never came back. She ended up asking another employee to help us. Not sure why she did that...maybe she didn't take us seriously because we were obviously a lot younger than the rest of the customers? Who knows.....regardless....she ruined the "customer service" part for me. I should have noted her name. Anyway, the guy who attended to us was quite nice and very informative - haha I forgot his name...but he made the rest of our time there worth the $10 each. The price of the bottles were sooo much more expensive than many of the wineries I've been to in Napa. The cheapest was about $30 or something, the Chardonnay. It's really hard to compare when I just went wine tasting in Napa several weeks before! read more

None of the wines I tried here anything special. Nonetheless, it was a neat place to visit as it is perched atop one of the hills overlooking downtown Los Gatos. It truly does have great scenery. The cheese, cracker and jam spread was enough to keep me interested. Otherwise, the experience was just ok. The workers didn't seem to keen on entertaining. Fun, mellow, and different experience. It was a friend's b-day and we have all been wanting to do a wine tasting trip to Napa and it was getting too hard to, so we opted for Los Gatos. A group of about 10 people showed up to the winery, we were welcomed with a class of wine and chocolate. The winery is located up in the hills, kind of hidden. The outside is very nice, I would almost say European looking. Cute to take some pictures. We happen to go the day they were having their wine and chocolate event. There was a charge of $10, but it was defiantly worth the cost. There were 6-8 kinds of wines we tasted. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The explained a little bit about each wine. Our tasting experience at Testarossa was awesome to say the least. This review is giving 5 stars because of the service, but a solid 4 if you are just reviewing the wine. We came in bright and early around 11am on a Thursday since we wanted to get a full day of sightseeing in (I had a friend from out of town). She is a huge pinot drinker, so I thought mixed with the cave, this would be a perfect place to bring her. We had the pleasure of meeting a couple different guys - 2 of which were Dannys, the other I think was Paul, who was our pourer. Throughout the tasting, we got some history of Testarossa, not to mention our pourer was amazing at telling us about other gems in the area and beyond (since I am newer to the area as well) We had great conversation over some great wine, and he even treated us to a taste of something not on the menu. He graciously took a couple pictures for us, and told us all about their patio and outdoor seating areas. He even mrentioned the cork tree we should take a peek at outside. The wine was excellent, although a little pricey for everyday drinking. It's a beautiful tasting room (although there is no natural light) and a great experience. Testarossa has a nice selection of wines made on site, with grapes sourced from the Santa Cruz mountains and central coast region. I like their Pinot hours and chards, which all are pretty reasonably priced . Try coming on a weekday as weekends can be pretty busy. Nice outdoor seating for a nice picnic too! read more

It's great to know that there's such a quaint winery within such a short distance of downtown Los Gatos. The hallway to the tasting room is nicely decorated with the kind of mysterious feel to it that makes your first visit more interesting. This winery is known for their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Although I'm not a big fan of Chardonnay, I enjoyed the 2011 Soberanes Vineyard Chardonnay very much. Unlike other Chardonnay, this one is much less on the dry side and has more of a fruity taste. The finish is smooth and the taste lingers on after you swallow. As much as I like the taste, it would not be an everyday wine for me only because it's a bit pricey, $41 for a bottle, for non member. But for special occasion and with a pairing food menu, then it's totally worth the money. Last but not least, the wine was poured by their awesome staff member, Julie. She's very knowledgeable of all their products and is very informative. One of the best service. read more

Nice winery with unique designs. Sort of dark...like being in a underground cellar. Pretty cool though. You could do tastings and learn about the history of the wine makers from the tentative hosts, or enjoy a glass of wine on the relaxing patio. My parents have been members here for close to ten years now. It has been awesome to watch Testarossa grow over that time into a very nice tasting room and facilities. While the wine just keeps getting better and is getting well deserved recognition. Testarossa uses grapes from the central valley and coastal pinot noir regions and they're always expanding partnerships. Awesome way to enjoy some great Gary Pisoni wine. Also, the Diana's Reserve chardonnay is incredible. For all the added perks (bottle discounts, waived tasting fees for guests, special events and parties), not to mention the wine you're getting, I highly suggest becoming a member of Testarossa winery. read more
