I've been wanting to try this place for a long time. I always passed it on my walk with my dog but it has always been closed. Their hours are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Today I planned my visit because I just knew I couldn't keep passing this place without trying it. Upon arrival, there was a food truck there. The food truck was called Fire and Rice. I quickly glanced at the menu and headed inside. They have nice outdoor seating and stand-up tables. There is seating inside and outdoors. We were greeted by one of the owners who told us all we needed to know about Coterie Cellars. We were told about the list of wines and their flavors. We tried 3 of their wines and went with Caries Corner's Pinot Noir. We also bought a bottle of another wine we tried to take home. We grabbed a seat inside the establishment after a lovely conversation with the owners and family. We enjoyed our wine and just had to try something from the food truck. I would definitely return. The vibes were chill, the wine was great, and so was the food truck. It was too crowded although there were a few guests but two tables were available when we were ready to be seated. Please Note: Food trucks are there on Fridays and its a new food truck each time. The menu changes every couple of weeks. Tastings are only on the weekends and not on Fridays. read more

We chose to come here as an activity while my mom was visiting. This place is truly a gem in the middle of San Jose. I love that I don't need to drive 2 hours to wine country to get some good wine - it's just "right in my backyard"! While reservations aren't mandatory, I still made one anyways as you never know how busy a Sunday afternoon can be. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the owner Kyle and (I think) Marissa. Both were so kind and attentive to our needs. Our party of 4 each got a tasting and shared 1 cheese platter. Each tasting is $20 each and each cheese platter is $20 each. My boyfriend's favorite tasting was the Rosé and mine was the Syrah. And my mom and her friend enjoyed the Pinot Noir. Kyle also gave us an extra tasting - a dessert wine to park with the dried pineapple from the cheese platter. The espresso rubbed cheese from Cowgirl Creamery was SO GOOD, honestly, wanted more of that. Overall, we had such a great experience that I joined their membership. It happened to be one of the distribution months so our entire tasting was waved. I'm excited to be apart of this winery and can't wait to join some of their weekly events this summer. Came here on a Friday night for the first time! Parking is a little challenging just based on location so I'd recommend possibly ubering here. We came around 6:30 and let me tell you, this place was PACKED. Every table was taken but somehow we were still able to find an open one despite how busy it was. The staff was extremely friendly and shared with us some of the upcoming events they have going on. Check out their website to see what food offerings they have on Fridays. Great ambiance, customer service, and wine! Coterie is a hidden gem located right in the heart of San Jose situated in a very cozy neighborhood. There's plenty of parking on the streets, but be mindful of the residential parking which requires permits to park at. Finally had the chance to drop by our neighborhood wine spot for their "Foodie Friday" event. There's, usually, a food truck that they have parked in front of their establishment. Had the absolute pleasure of meeting P and Kyle, and learned a bit of history behind their cellar; how they source their products, locally, and drive the grapes up from Paso Robles (I believe) and bottled at this very location. You have the option to grab a glass or purchase a bottle to enjoy in their seating areas (indoor or outdoor available). Should you find yourself unable to finish the bottle you purchased, they will re-cork it for you so you can bring it home. We laid our foundations before arriving, but really wished we hadn't because the food smelled soooo good! Looking forward to our next visit with them! read more

This 5 star review is way past due! I've been a member at Coterie for the last few years and absolutely love it. I've never had a wine here that I didn't enjoy. Kyle and his team are always super friendly and make you feel right at home right when you walk in the door. The tasting room itself is very charming and tucked away from the busy streets of DTSJ. It's the perfect venue to host a small event. Membership is absolutely worth it - you get discounted rates on bottles/tastings (which are already reasonably priced) and they often have events or member release parties (usually including delicious snacks/cheeses). The bottles in your allocations are always SO good, and they'll even let you swap them out if you prefer something different. Highly recommend Coterie! read more

We went here yesterday to celebrate our anniversary and had the best time! The atmosphere is super cozy with seating inside and outside, decor is beautiful and just all around inviting. It felt like being at home. Kyle who is the owner was absolutely amazing as well as Priya. They made us feel so welcome and we learned so much from them about the wines. Side note, I am super introverted so it's hard for me to feel comfortable outside of my house so finding a place where I felt completely relaxed and comfortable is huge. Also, Kyle is very compassionate...there was a gentleman that was lost and Kyle came out and talked to him and was so kind to him and helped him find his way back to where he was going. Came here for a tasting while my friend was visiting from out of town, and it was a wonderful experience! From the start, we were warmly greeted by Kyle, who welcomed us, allowed us to choose a table, and walked us through their menu. Our server was lovely and knowledgeable, giving us a thorough rundown of the notes and region for each of the pours. I'm sadly forgetting her name, but she was patient in answering our questions about the membership and friendly; we got to talking at the end, and turns out she's also a huge Janet Jackson fan, too, which was the reason my friend was in town, so that was fun. The tasting is $20 and consists of a sauvignon blanc, a rose, and three reds - a pinot, a cab and possibly a syrah? I usually love sauvignon blancs, but this one was slightly bland to me. It lacked the minerality or acidity to make it truly distinctive. However, I loved the pinot, which is a big deal because I don't usually drink much red wine. It's light and fragrant -- the kind of red you can drink during the day without needing a specific food pairing. My friend was a big fan of the rose, and we each purchased a bottle of our favorite, which meant that the tasting was free! Also, I can't end without mentioning that the meat and cheese pairings are a must! We were stuffed from our sushi lunch in Japantown but we're so glad we opted for a charcuterie plate. There were assorted cured meats, a darker cheese and a lighter cheese, seeded rustic crackers, plain rustic crackers, apricot preserves and nuts. Be sure to let your server know if you have any food allergies or restrictions and they'll be happy to accommodate! Reservations are recommended; it was only half full when we got there at 2:15 but started to fill up around 4pm. read more

What a hidden gem. We went in to look and I left a member. The owners are so nice and the membership is great. No pressure. They have free wine tasting for members on scheduled days. They also have a food truck every Friday that they pair the wine with the food that is being served. I am excited to try what else they have. I've always seen this place & it's name come up as a local wine spot in San Jose, but never got a chance to check it out until recently. I attended a ladies social or smaller meet up group event here, and loved the overall feel and the wines weren't bad at all! Sometimes the nicer looking wineries or wine tasting rooms don't have the best wines. On the outside it's almost hard to find driving down the street and almost looks like those garage type businesses, but inside it's very warm inviting and we'll decorated. I was lucky to find parking but as it's most residential it's street parking or ride share may be recommended. The space itself is not super huge inside but does accommodate a generous amount of people and has tables inside and outside. Our server/hostess was Priyanka, and some that pour wine just pour without creating an experience for the guests, but Priyanka told us a lot of background story about the wines and even told us about some not on the tasting menu which was fantastic. Even going wine tasting a lot in East Bay Pleasanton/Livermore that type of service has gone down. The wines overall I liked some of the whites and reds, usually I prefer reds but their whites weren't terrible. The pours itself were light compared to other places but I was grateful as I had other events to attend. My only expectation was starting out with a bubbly or sparkling which I love at other wineries. They don't have one here, but I do look forward to coming back to try them again and purchase some bottles. I ordered the tasting and a snack tray, overall it was similar prices to East Bay snacks and wine around $45. I made a mistake of perhaps forgetting to ask for the meat and cheese tray items to be separated for my veg. friend. Or perhaps there should be a cheese only offering and one option with meat and cheese? They're a neighborhood winery with limited hours but did mention food trucks on certain days. Coterie Cellars is an awesome place right in the middle of San Jose to come through and do a wine tasting! They operate out of a garage which is really cool and the place is really spacious. Seating can be a bit limited so definitely make a reservation before you come here. The ambience is super nice and the owner and the staff are super friendly! I loved the tasting and we also got a cheese platter along with it. It was just really a nice way to spend an afternoon. Support local businesses too and come to this winery! read more

Where has Coterie Cellars been all my life? I really wish I discovered them sooner! I would give them 10000 stars if I could! My fiance and I stopped by last Friday night because we saw that one of our favorite food trucks (@fireandricesj) was going to be there. After we placed our order outside, we decided to come in to check out the wines. This is a whole new world for us, as we're still learning about wine! We told the staff this, and they were extremely welcoming (shout out to Kyle, Piya, and Veronica!). They gave us thorough recommendations, told us their story, let us know about upcoming events/food trucks and membership options. We ended up ordering a glass of the 2018 Catie's Corner Grenache Blanc and 2018 Kirk Williams Ranch Pinot Noir to enjoy with our meal. These were legit the best wines we've ever tried. We wanted to bring a bottle to go, so after our meal, we went back in. We ended up signing up for a membership on the spot and went home with 3 bottles: 2016 Tondre Grapefield Late Harvest Riesling, 2018 Hartmann Vineyard Pinot Noir, 2020 Catie's Corner Rose. It's free to join, you get 20% off, and 3 bottles each release in February, May, September. It's been a weekend and we've already finished 2 out of the 3 bottles-- we might need to upgrade our membership to the premier one. :P I can't wait to come by again! Seating is limited and first come, first serve. We didn't have a problem finding a table though. There's plenty of street parking around the neighborhood. This winery is a hidden gem tucked away behind downtown san jose. I lived in dtsj for about a year after college and had no idea this place existed! I came for a work event and it was the perfect size to accommodate about 50 people. There was a casual wine tasting and light appetizers before we were seated next to the wine barrels. The food and wine were excellent and the hosts were gracious. I had a wonderful time! Tip: There's a parking lot in the back. This past weekend, my wife and I were invited to attend a friends small birthday get together at Coterie Winery. I want to disclose that neither my wife or I are big wine drinkers, so we were a little nervous about this gathering. This winery was nothing like I envisioned when thinking of a traditional winery. A winery down the street from SAP center? The building is a pretty good size, but the seating area is pretty small. The seating area was extremely clean and the ambiance was spot on! I did noticed that there is a large sliding glass door which opens up and additional outdoor seating is available. However, on a day when temperature was well into mid 90's, we all opted to sit inside the nice AC wine tasting room. We were then greeted by our party host and seated. We were then introduced to our server along with the owners Shala and Kyle. From the moment we walked into this winery we sincerely felt like VIP's! I can not say enough how wonderfully our entire party was treated by everyone at Coterie. I asked as many questions that a novice wine drinker can ask and the owners answered all of my questions with extreme professionalism. We ended up staying for ~3 hours and had to have sampled ~6-8 various red and white wines. I ended up walking out with a few extra bottles of wine to enjoy with friends and family. Thanks again Shala and Kyle for making this party special! Whether you are a novice wine drinker or experienced and live in the SJ area, you got to go check out this small family owned winery. Hidden gem! Arrived to a charming, rustic (wood and metal) themed building and was immediately greeted by two friendly hosts. First impression was great. Very warm and inviting decor with seated or standing tables. Although much of the place has wood accents, it is modernized with the tasting menu displayed on a tv screen. We had the tasting which is $10/person and boasted a range of wines from Sauvignon Blanc to Syrah. No cab, but you really don't miss it especially on a warm day. If you like easy drinking wines, this is the place for you. They have their own "flair" to many of the varietals which I found pleasing. Two vastly different Pinot noirs that were both delightful. Walked from J. Lohr to try it out for our first time, but was closed at 3pm on a Saturday (!!) with a sign that said "Members Only Today." Totally understand member days, but it's not a good look to make them on a prime day at a prime time. Won't be back, which is a shame since we're wine lovers and enjoy trying and supporting local wineries. Going to Napa and Sonoma has honestly become such a hassle. Unless you leave the South Bay before 9:00 AM, it's honestly hours before you reach either area. Thankfully there are wineries like this one so that you don't have to drive far. I learned about Coterie Cellars through their wine-tasting class that they offered through Groupon. I will be very honest when I say that I thought it would be a joke since I am a little bit of a wine snob. Boy was I wrong. I learned such a great deal and what's more, the teacher (also the owner/winemaker) was not the least bit pretentious. Additionally, I learned that he knows one of the wine directors at Beltramo's. For people that don't know, that was a high end wine shop in Menlo Park that shut down a year ago. Some of their wines were featured in their tastings due to the old-world style resemblance. When I went to their class, it was at their old location, which was a little unglamorous but their new location is AMAZING. Their wines have gotten better and I have actually seen them at classy restaurants like Zola in Palo Alto and Calave Wine Bar (a high end wine bar in Palo Alto). I have come here recently and they are still as unpretentious as ever. That is how a winery should be! read more

My friend just moved into a new apartment literally right behind Coterie Cellars, so I was excited to check out the winery. I came on a Sunday afternoon with some friends for a tasting. The space is very cool, and definitely is aiming for the whole "urban" vibe with big garage doors that are opened when the tasting room is open. There are a few tables and a small bar for tasting. The two women who were working were very nice and talked us through the six different wines we tasted. They do a lot of pinots here, and serve some from different vineyards and vintages, so that you can see how they're different. I thought Coterie was a very pleasant experience, and hope more shops pop up nearby. If I was my friend, I would totally be a wine club member so I could just walk downstairs for a tasting! read more

Fabulous! Just right outside the main downtown area, this gorgeous tasting room & wine-making facility is as good as it gets. Beautiful interior and decor, open patio, seriously friendly staff, and delicious wine made with care. I'm a fan. I stopped by on a recent trip right after they opened and happened to be the only person there. I really enjoyed chatting with Sam - who seems to do it all around the shop, including assisting with wine making - while I worked my way through the wine tasting list. Kyle, the owner, also come out to greet me and thank me for visiting. They offer a membership program - if I lived around here, I'd certainly become one! I was pleased to receive a teacher's discount on my purchase since I'm in education - what a nice surprise! I purchased the very drinkable Grenache Blanc to take home in my suitcase. This lovely winery/ tasting room just opened in our neighborhood last fall. We finally stopped in today. The space is welcoming and has an urban oasis feel. We did a tasting for $10 and found the wine to be excellent. Quite a few Pinot Noirs and a really good Viognier. The real treat here is the staff. They are so warm and welcoming. We even met the owner, Kyle who was gracious and kind. I visited with my stepmom and we both joined the wine club! They apparently have evening hours Thursday and Friday which is a fantastic business idea. I can literally walk to Coterie and I can guarantee I will go back. read more
