Came here with my wife and a couple of friends. This place was recommended by our friends. Great rec!! Staff is so friendly and attentive. Our server had a great personality and was fun. The dining area is spacious. Even with lots of tables, the space didn't feel cramped. There's a mechanical burger station against the wall too. Someone ordered a burger so I was able to see it in action. That was fun to watch. Everything we ordered, from the small bites to the dessert, was excellent! Rice Bites was tasty, and the rice had a good crunch. Truffle Fries was good, though I've had better. Caesar Salad was good as well. Shake'n Beef was tender with good flavor. As You Wish - the chicken was moist and delicious. The Ube sticky rice gave the dish a nice sweetness. Couch Potato cocktail paired well with the As You Wish entree. The chocolate dessert (can't remember the name) was very rich. Have with coffee. The banana dessert (can't remember the name either) was very good. Too easy to eat, very light and not too sweet. First Born absolutely nails the ambiance. The space is beautiful, clean, romantic, and feels thoughtfully designed without being overdone. We made reservations for 7:30 PM on a Saturday and were surprised that only a few tables were occupied, which made for a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. The service was excellent from start to finish. Our waitress was attentive and friendly, and the entire staff was welcoming. A special shoutout to Sean and Taylor. Taylor was behind the bar and crafted some phenomenal cocktails that were easily one of the highlights of the evening. For food, we started with the mushrooms and crispy rice bites, both of which were fantastic and full of flavor. We also ordered the Burger Bot with fries. The concept was fun and unique, but the burger itself fell a bit short for us. The fries, however, were perfectly crispy and seasoned. While I wouldn't order the burger again, everything else we tried was spot on. Pricing felt appropriate for the area, and between the excellent drinks, delicious food, beautiful atmosphere, and genuinely friendly staff, we'd absolutely come back. After a long waiting, we had to call a random waiter to order. Then we waited a long time to get our check. And nobody came to check in while we were eating. - Atmosphere feels cheap. It's those places where you can feel whoever designed the space tried to give luxurious vibe but failed. Feels all over the place and I don't like it. I'd been wanting to try First Born for months, and finally got the chance to stop in. Coincidentally, the friend I was with had been wanting to see the Burger Bot that resides somewhere in Los Gatos, and that ended up being at First Born. We arrived shortly before close, but Taylor at the bar took good care of us. They had to fire of the Bot, previously shut down for the night, so that took some time. Perfect chance to enjoy some wine and check out the restaurant space. There are a lot of tables in the open space, and I'm curious if it gets really loud during peak hours. I will have to go back and test out that scene. Plus, the burger wasn't much of a Pan Asian representation, so I'd like to experience more of the menu. But a robot making my burger was too intriguing to pass up, so that was what we ordered. It was pretty cool to see I'm action! Unfortunately, the patty was over cooked to my medium preference, and the pickles could have been added more generously. The accompanying fries were good, and overall, the burger was enjoyable, if not gourmet. I'm also hoping to try the breakfast side of the restaurant, called Breaking Dawn, open 9am-3pm. And what a concept to split the time to maximize patrons, one restaurant and menu in the AM/ early PM fir brunch, and a different for dinner. This time in was a 4 star food experience, but 5 stars to Taylor for the excellent service. Hopefully I can upgrade my review after returning and trying more of the offerings. read more

Amazing food and drinks, but what was more amazing were all the people working there! Sean, Maia, Sam, and Austin were all an absolute pleasure! What a wonderful evening spent chatting with them. One of us is a Pescatarian and Sean was amazing at recommending the food we could eat. I don't recall having such an amazing time with my group and mainly the team members. Sean went on to describe the story behind First Borne. Wow, pretty cool! I could not initially find the restaurant, but know that it is literally right next door to The Discovery Shop. This was has the vibe. Beautifully located in downtown LG. It's called breaking dawn for breakfast but at night it's "First born" which serves craft cocktails and features a combination of modern Vietnamese and other Asian dishes. This place is fire! My wife and I split the tuna rice cakes (which were one of the best things I've had in a while) and the chicken egg roles. Our drinks were also very good. I'd been meaning to try First Born Los Gatos for a while, and managed to snag a same-day dinner reservation on a Saturday. The interior had elegant, modern decor with a pretty chandelier and plush seating. It was lively but quiet enough to easily have a conversation. We skipped drinks (although the cocktails looked intriguing) and ordered food right away. I was curious about their "burger-bot" - a large robot which assembled items from the burger menu, but was more tempted by the Asian-fusion dishes. My partner and I ordered the Surf & Turf Rolls, Crispy Rice, and Longevity Noodles with Chicken to share. Everything was delicious! I'm obsessed with salad rolls and the Surf & Turf Rolls were a more elevated take on this. The Crispy Rice had a nice, firm texture with fresh tuna on top. When I arrived for my reservation for my first time, the waitress brought me to the tables outside and said I could pick my table. I loved that the sun was shining at the table I picked. After she showed me the menus, I ordered a rose from the happy hour (3-5). I also asked for the wi-fi & she had to spell it out first me, since I couldn't see my computer in the sun. I think I annoyed her for asking for the spelling, that she forgot about my drink order. She went to the table next to me and asked for their drink orders and afterwards, I said, "I'm getting my rose, right?" She said yes. Then, she came out and gave the two women next to my table their drinks first, even though I put my order in before them. When my friend arrived, she took her order and when she brought it, she didn't tell the directions of what to do (you pour the sparkling wine into the Pornstar drink). We had to ask Sean, who worked her tables, while she was on her break. She didn't give off good vibes, but Sean definitely did! We ordered the green beans- a must! Sean suggested it over the Brussel Sprouts. They were delicious! Sean reminded my friend and I to eat them while they are hot! We also were very pleased with the Sesame chicken Caesar (the chicken was not on the happy hour menu) & the sticky chicken wings. The wings were my favorite! You've got to get them! Our party of 4 came in on a cold Saturday, late afternoon, with reservations that weren't really necessary (though that could've been due to weather or time (4pm)) because there were very few patrons there. We all ordered several drinks and a couple of appetizers, but no entrees. The appetizers (fried mushroom and truffle fries) were great and so were the drinks. We were in town for a few nights and were looking for a good meal - something with a cool menu, different than what we could get at home. First born completely blew us away. If I'm near Los Gatos again, I will be sure to pop in. For drinks we had: a couch potato and one other drink. Both were AWESOME. Beautiful and delicious. For apps, we had sugar cane and green beans. Sugar cane- pork on sugar cane skewers- was unlike anything I've eaten before and it was so good. I'm salivating just thinking about it. And the green beans were perfectly seasoned and so well cooked. For dinner: Shake N Beef, and the As You Wish. My boyfriend loved the Shake N Beef (I can attest the sauce was really good) and I had the as you wish. The chicken was delicious (I do wish it were a bit larger) but the star of this was the ube sticky rice. OMG was it delicious. I've never had anything that tasted or looked like this rice before, and I will dream about it until I eat it again. The service- both our waiter and the bartender- were also lovely. Came here with high hopes as I've seen great reviews. The place is where the old Blue Line restaurant use to be in downtown Los Gatos. The ceilings are high giving it a dramatic old time feel. The decor feels elegant with black and gold as the main colors for chairs, plates (eg: chargers, accents), etc. They have a large and extensive bar. Service is friendly and helpful. Perhaps it was an off night. There were 2 couples there when we arrived and for the duration of our meal. Unfortunately the food was ok. We had the rice bites, which were the best dish we ordered - the rice was perfectly fried and topped with fresh tuna poke and a mayo sauce. Unfortunately one of our rice bites was misshapen and much smaller than the other bites on the place ... which for the elegant feel of the restaurant, that seemed off to send it out as it was clearly noticeable. The sugar cane skewers was a deconstructed spring roll - the pork was reminiscent of spam and making your own lettuce roll was messy and tedious due to the fact you are working with delicate (lettuce leaf, vermicelli noodles) and tiny amounts (slivers of carrot and daikon and springs of cilantro) with a plump, round pork spam piece. It was tasty, but not worth the effort. The longevity noodles was ok. The noodles as the best part - chewy and tasty. However the sauce tasted like it came out of a jar and then had ketchup added - it was oddly sweet. It reminded us of Chef Boyardee from the 70's. It came with 6 small shrimps that were overcooked. That's it. There was no veggie, peanut, etc with the longevity noodle. It felt one dimensional and needed either something fresh, crunchy (for texture contrast) or heat. I've had their food twice now and both times I've just been so impressed. First I tried their steak and rice dish called Shake'n Beef, Paper (their eggrolls), a mushroom dish called Fun Guy, and a rose lemonade. The shake'n beef comes with house marinated filet minon, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, and Jasmine rice. The beef is so tender and flavorful. The photo didn't do much justice for its serving size, there is a good amount of steak. The fun guy dish is a deep fried battered mushroom dish- one is an enoki mushroom. The seasoning in the batter really makes this so delicious especially dipped into the aoili it comes with. These are deep fried with jalapeños and that flavor addition just compliments everything else so nicely. The Paper are chicken eggrolls made with mung bean noodles, carrots, green onions, and served with sweet chili sauce. These are so obviously made in house. They come hot and fresh and crispy, I would order these ever time . The rose lemonade was just a bottled carbonated rose lemonade. It was alright. Tonight I got their Longevity noodles. These are thick chewy egg noodles tossed in their delightful house "mom sauce" which is also on the steak I had ordered last time. It's a savory sauce that has a really full flavor profile. I added beef, you can choose to add beef, chicken, prawns, or tofu for protein, I added beef and again it's just so tender. Their service is really great every time. Warm and contemporary and then there's this robot behind the glass! It makes hamburgers!! Great idea with some interesting potential. Food was excellent. The rice bites while heavy, was very tasty and fresh cubes of ahi on top. The shrimp and papaya salad was a nice pop of freshness with perfectly grilled / charred shrimp with that Vietnamese flavor profile. The shakin beef was also a star. Well marinated filet (yes, definitely filet) served sizzling! So good. For dessert, we tried the banana chocolate tart. Very well done, although I kinda wish the whipped was more heavy cream forward. I've been to Breaking Dawn for brunch and have been meaning to try First Born, which is their dinner concept. Since I was in the area for an appointment with my dog, I decided that it would be an opportune time for me. I stopped by around 6pm. Since the windows were tinted, I couldn't tell if the place was open but I peaked in. I saw that they were definitely open and have been since 3pm. It wasn't busy inside, but I told the hostess that I'd sit in the outdoor patio with my dog. I've had great service from Breaking Dawn, so I wouldn't expect any less. The wait staff was lovely. I think I had 2 guys rotating serving my dishes and drinks, who were really nice and friendly. They also treated my dog with the utmost respect, which was much appreciated. I ordered a couple of drinks, including They Not Like Us and After Party. They Not Like Us was my server's current favorite drink off the menu, and I could see why. Loved the fruitiness but the meringue was divine. After Party was an interesting cocktail, like if an espresso martini and mojito had a baby. I wasn't super hungry, so I got apps that my server recommended. His favorite small plates were the Rice Bites and Fun Guy. The Fun Guy came out first. Perfect play on words as it's their fried mushroom dish. I'm a huge fan of enoki mushrooms, which they used. They did a light fry, so the texture was delicate and not soggy. The mushrooms sat on a bed of lemon aioli. The Rice Bites were cool. The rice toasts (for lack of better description) were extra crunchy. If you like crispy burnt rice, this would be your jam. It was flavorful from its sauce, but I would've loved to have more tuna. I got a s'mores bomb for good measure. Damn this was an expensive dessert at $25, but I guess worth the indulgence. My server poured warm caramel over the chocolate bomb to reveal the s'mores brownie inside. Loved the caramel and enjoyed the brownie, which was more dense and fudgy in texture. It came with a side of ice cream, fresh berries, and feuilletine for texture. While everything tasted really good, I thought that calling this dish "s'mores" was an abstraction. Nothing about it really screamed s'mores to me. There were white things in the brownie that were probably mini marshmallows, but they sure didn't accentuate any marshmallow flavor... or was the ice cream supposed to be marshmallow flavor? I couldn't tell albeit tasted like vanilla bean to me. Give me marshmallow fluff or something. We made a reservation for Valentine's Day and are so glad we did. It got busy very quickly during dinner but staff got everyone seated and served in a timely manner. I love the ambiance, I could tell attention to all details were very well thought out. From the table, chairs, plate settings, table side coat/purse hanger, lighting, etc. everything felt very cozy and comfortable. The staff were all amazing, Liz (the owner) was so sweet and hospitable! She was walking around checking on everyone the entire evening and making sure everyone was being taken care of. Even with the Valentine's Day rush, they were very attentive and smooth; Checked on us often, refilled our drinks, changed out our plates and more. We were very impressed with all of the dishes, very flavorful and interesting fusion! We got the Fun Guy (LOVED THIS), Truffle Fries, Longevity Noodles with Prawns, Shake'N Beef, Ribeye (from their Valentine's Day Special Menu) and ended the night with the Smores Brownie with Ice Cream. We found street parking. No direct handicap parking near by. Ambiance- there was live music right in the front and outdoor seating too. Service- we were seated right away. It was a very high ceiling. The bar area looked huge and regal in decor. There was a robot to assemble a hamburger if you were to order that. Our server was Brandon. He was very attentive and checked on us regularly. We were never without water for long. All the bussers were also on hand to clear our used plates and very professional. Dishes- -Sugar Cane: it's grilled pork wrapped around a stick of sugar cane. The Vietnamese vinaigrette paired perfectly with the lettuce, noodles and pickled carrots and daikon. You eat it like a wrap. It was one of my favorites. -Green Beans: mom's sauce was also perfect and beans very fresh and still had a snap -Longevity: we added the chicken. It was okay. The chicken was a little dry and it was just a typical noodle dish. -Shake'n Beef: the filet mignon was very tender and seasoned well. I might be a little picky about my rice, but the bowl of jasmine rice was average. Thoughtfulness- we didn't order dessert but when they found out we were celebrating our anniversary, they gave us a complimentary dessert. We lucked out. Had reservation for 8 of us on a rainy Thursday night and although there were about 3 small tables of ppl and a few ppl at the bar, we were the biggest party they had this night and got great service. The moment we walked in, great restaurant for dinner and amazing ambiance. It's nicely warmly lit. Bar looks impressive. Wait staff was ready for us. We ordered a few rounds of drinks and also opened a bottle that we brought. Corkage was $35 per bottle. We ordered a bunch of apps x 2 so we all had at least one taste of each item. We shared a few dishes as well, also x 2. Drinks were delicious. Food was great, especially the ribeye. Dessert is a must to end the night. We ordered one share and our bday girl also got one so we had a bite of that as well. Not sure if it's made at the restaurant but good dessert at the end of the night. Have been here for brunch for a friend's bday. Love the atmosphere, it's beautiful inside. I' live a plant based vegan life style (for over 20 yrs), so it was unfortunate there weren't more vegan options, however the fresh spring rolls are a must for anyone , so good & super flavorful. Only bummer was our server was supposed to come back & confirm if the sunflower butter sauce was vegan or not , he never did. We ordered the Brussels (best flavor ever), friends ordered the Longevity noodles w beef and they loved the dish "so good and flavorful". The chef accommodated by making the Golden Mountain rice vegan ( thank you chef!), was grateful and didn't disappoint - made with white rice, topped w spinach and kimchi flavored veggies. Drinks were incredible (pricey) so flavorful, 2 of us opted for the Pornstar Martini (comes w a small 1/2 glass of Mums Napa for "pallet cleanse"), other friend got the Summer Anthem, she loved it and I got a sip - this damn mixologist - clearly a pro and they def know what they're doing, Theme of the night - FLAVOR throughout our experience. I'd only ask that there are more vegan options and non cross-contamination in the frier. (Which was a bit surprising for such a top notch spot. Wow! I'm super picky when it comes to Asian food, especially when you see a high-end restaurant like this. Usually the food is subpar and it's all about the ambience. But in this case, absolutely not it was both! The food was on point I had the surf and turf, spring rolls and the noodle dish with steak. absolutely tasty and delicious. Brandon was my server and he was very accommodating and over-the-top polite and courteous. Very professional. I had the mai tai and wow! Just absolutely wow! We visited First Born again tonight, this time with a friend who hadn't been before. Coincidentally, we got the same server as last time, which we thought was a nice touch! He was great at the start, attentive and friendly. We ordered a mix of dishes: the wings, bacon cheddar waffles, Caesar salad, ribeye noodles, and fried rice. Everything came out quickly and tasted good. However, as the meal progressed, things started to fall apart. Toward the end, our server became scarce, and we later saw that he was busy with a large party that had just come in. While we completely understand that happens, we were left with no server/service.. We wanted to order dessert, but no one came by. Eventually, we had to ask the person refilling our water to get someone to help us. A different server came to take our dessert order, but after 15 minutes with no dessert or coffee, we had to ask for an update. The new server told us the dessert guy was backed up, which felt more like an excuse--possibly that our order wasn't put in. Overall, the beginning of our meal was great, but the service at the end left a sour note. It would have been helpful if our original server had let us know upfront that service might slow down due to the large party. First Born is a very refined place, everything was aesthetically pleasing and great plating. Good service. I liked the Rice Bites appetizer with crispy riced rice patties topped with tuna and spicy mayo; just could have used more of the toppings. I thought the main - Shake 'n Beef was pretty mid, lacked depth of flavor for me - just salty but not much sweetness or acidity or anything. For dessert, the Strawberry Yuzu Tart was pretty good, creamy mousse, smooth tart with a buttery crust all with some fresh strawberry. Wonderful first time at First Born! We had such a great time on a busy Saturday night! We sat at the bar, and the service was exceptional--Austin, Kevin, & Mike (if we remember correctly!) were incredibly attentive, friendly, and helpful. Even with the place packed, the chef came out personally to check on our meal--such a thoughtful touch! We started with the Fun Guy (crispy battered mushrooms with tangy sauce) and Rice Bites (tuna on crunchy rice squares)--both delicious. For mains, we had the Underbelly (seared salmon with Vietnamese seasoning) and the Prawns--flavorful and perfectly cooked. We also tried drinks from their new summer cocktail menu--so refreshing and well-balanced. Highly recommend giving them a try! Dessert was the Matcha Misu--light, not overly sweet, and beautifully presented. We took a few photos because everything looked just as good as it tasted. Can't wait to go back!!! read more
