Burger, boxed by the machine, and fries boxed separately

I'd been wanting to try First Born for months, and finally got the chance to stop in. Coincidentally, the friend I was with had been wanting to see the Burger Bot that resides somewhere in Los Gatos, and that ended up being at First Born. We arrived shortly before close, but Taylor at the bar took good care of us. They had to fire of the Bot, previously shut down for the night, so that took some time. Perfect chance to enjoy some wine and check out the restaurant space. There are a lot of tables in the open space, and I'm curious if it gets really loud during peak hours. I will have to go back and test out that scene. Plus, the burger wasn't much of a Pan Asian representation, so I'd like to experience more of the menu. But a robot making my burger was too intriguing to pass up, so that was what we ordered. It was pretty cool to see I'm action! Unfortunately, the patty was over cooked to my medium preference, and the pickles could have been added more generously. The accompanying fries were good, and overall, the burger was enjoyable, if not gourmet. I'm also hoping to try the breakfast side of the restaurant, called Breaking Dawn, open 9am-3pm. And what a concept to split the time to maximize patrons, one restaurant and menu in the AM/ early PM fir brunch, and a different for dinner. This time in was a 4 star food experience, but 5 stars to Taylor for the excellent service. Hopefully I can upgrade my review after returning and trying more of the offerings.

Gorgeous insides, dirty menus, very tasteful and balanced cocktails. The small bites were good especially the crispy rice tuna bites. The longevity noodles with beef were tasty yet a bit sweet. Service was sweet and kind and helpful. Took too long to get our drinks and 1 of 4 was a glass of wine. Drinks came out way after our shared apps. The rice rolls were chewy-skinned and hard to eat. Perfectly cooked brussel sprouts. expensive yet upscale ambience. I hope they make it. 5 ppl in the entire place for 2.5 hrs.

Amazing food and drinks, but what was more amazing were all the people working there! Sean, Maia, Sam, and Austin were all an absolute pleasure! What a wonderful evening spent chatting with them. One of us is a Pescatarian and Sean was amazing at recommending the food we could eat. I don't recall having such an amazing time with my group and mainly the team members. Sean went on to describe the story behind First Borne. Wow, pretty cool! I could not initially find the restaurant, but know that it is literally right next door to The Discovery Shop. I cannot wait to go back!

This place is fire! My wife and I split the tuna rice cakes (which were one of the best things I've had in a while) and the chicken egg roles. Our drinks were also very good. Interior of the place looked fancy and inviting but the outdoor seating area is the way to go. A bit pricy but A+ for the creativity and flavors.

I'd been meaning to try First Born Los Gatos for a while, and managed to snag a same-day dinner reservation on a Saturday. The interior had elegant, modern decor with a pretty chandelier and plush seating. It was lively but quiet enough to easily have a conversation. We skipped drinks (although the cocktails looked intriguing) and ordered food right away. I was curious about their "burger-bot" - a large robot which assembled items from the burger menu, but was more tempted by the Asian-fusion dishes. My partner and I ordered the Surf & Turf Rolls, Crispy Rice, and Longevity Noodles with Chicken to share. Everything was delicious! I'm obsessed with salad rolls and the Surf & Turf Rolls were a more elevated take on this. The Crispy Rice had a nice, firm texture with fresh tuna on top. The sauce in the Longevity Noodles was surprisingly sweet, but it worked well with the dish. This one was very filling! Service was friendly and attentive. Worth the visit!

First Born in Los Gatos is a modern Vietnamese gem! This restaurant was visually stunning yet comfortable -- I loved the high ceilings, statement chandelier, luxurious gold details and plush seating. We ordered: - FUN GUY (battered mushrooms, jalapeno, lemon aioli) - RICE BITES (ahi tuna, onions, cucumbers, green onions, sesame, house dressing on crispy rice) - TOFU SPRING ROLLS (lemongrass tofu, veggies, vermicelli noodles, sunflower butter sauce) - BURGERBOTS LEMONGRASS TOFU BURGER (tofu, lettuce, pickle, onions, house aioli + house fries) Everything we tried was perfectly executed and full of vibrant, true-to-Vietnamese flavors. The Burger Bot was underwhelming and the lemongrass tofu burger didn't quite hit the mark, but everything else more than made up for it. Service was friendly and attentive. All in all, First Born is perfect for anyone who wants a delicious and memorable Vietnamese meal. Can't wait for our next visit :)

First born is an Asian fusion restaurant that fixes Vietnamese traditional food with a modern American twist. I love how creative the food is here and was really excited to try. The service and ambiance was great, perfect for a date night out. However the food was just ok. I would try it once but not sure if I would come back again.

When I arrived for my reservation for my first time, the waitress brought me to the tables outside and said I could pick my table. I loved that the sun was shining at the table I picked. After she showed me the menus, I ordered a rose from the happy hour (3-5). I also asked for the wi-fi & she had to spell it out first me, since I couldn't see my computer in the sun. I think I annoyed her for asking for the spelling, that she forgot about my drink order. She went to the table next to me and asked for their drink orders and afterwards, I said, "I'm getting my rose, right?" She said yes. Then, she came out and gave the two women next to my table their drinks first, even though I put my order in before them. When my friend arrived, she took her order and when she brought it, she didn't tell the directions of what to do (you pour the sparkling wine into the Pornstar drink). We had to ask Sean, who worked her tables, while she was on her break. She didn't give off good vibes, but Sean definitely did! We ordered the green beans- a must! Sean suggested it over the Brussel Sprouts. They were delicious! Sean reminded my friend and I to eat them while they are hot! We also were very pleased with the Sesame chicken Caesar (the chicken was not on the happy hour menu) & the sticky chicken wings. The wings were my favorite! You've got to get them! Because Sean was so hospitable, they are a place we'd come back to!

Nice decor restaurant and spacious. Good service, delicious food. Definitely recommend! I'm Vietnamese. I love real Vietnamese flavorful food and they deliver. They are all delicious but the sticky fingers could be better. - As you wish: Roti chicken with ube sticky rice. Freshly made per order so it might take longer. - Sticky fingers: fish sauce chicken wings. Maybe a tad salty. It could be better. - Shaking beef: really good flavor! - Rice bites: yummy. - Salted crema coffee: good Vietnamese coffee - Palisade pumpkin cocktail: it's surprisingly good, well balanced.

Our party of 4 came in on a cold Saturday, late afternoon, with reservations that weren't really necessary (though that could've been due to weather or time (4pm)) because there were very few patrons there. We all ordered several drinks and a couple of appetizers, but no entrees. The appetizers (fried mushroom and truffle fries) were great and so were the drinks. The inside aesthetic of the restaurant is nice; great for a date night or night out for cocktails with friends. I'll definitely be coming back again.

As You Wish (chicken and ube sticky rice)

We were in town for a few nights and were looking for a good meal - something with a cool menu, different than what we could get at home. First born completely blew us away. If I'm near Los Gatos again, I will be sure to pop in. For drinks we had: a couch potato and one other drink. Both were AWESOME. Beautiful and delicious. For apps, we had sugar cane and green beans. Sugar cane- pork on sugar cane skewers- was unlike anything I've eaten before and it was so good. I'm salivating just thinking about it. And the green beans were perfectly seasoned and so well cooked. For dinner: Shake N Beef, and the As You Wish. My boyfriend loved the Shake N Beef (I can attest the sauce was really good) and I had the as you wish. The chicken was delicious (I do wish it were a bit larger) but the star of this was the ube sticky rice. OMG was it delicious. I've never had anything that tasted or looked like this rice before, and I will dream about it until I eat it again. The service- both our waiter and the bartender- were also lovely. Thank you for a great night!!!

Came here with high hopes as I've seen great reviews. The place is where the old Blue Line restaurant use to be in downtown Los Gatos. The ceilings are high giving it a dramatic old time feel. The decor feels elegant with black and gold as the main colors for chairs, plates (eg: chargers, accents), etc. They have a large and extensive bar. Service is friendly and helpful. Perhaps it was an off night. There were 2 couples there when we arrived and for the duration of our meal. Unfortunately the food was ok. We had the rice bites, which were the best dish we ordered - the rice was perfectly fried and topped with fresh tuna poke and a mayo sauce. Unfortunately one of our rice bites was misshapen and much smaller than the other bites on the place ... which for the elegant feel of the restaurant, that seemed off to send it out as it was clearly noticeable. The sugar cane skewers was a deconstructed spring roll - the pork was reminiscent of spam and making your own lettuce roll was messy and tedious due to the fact you are working with delicate (lettuce leaf, vermicelli noodles) and tiny amounts (slivers of carrot and daikon and springs of cilantro) with a plump, round pork spam piece. It was tasty, but not worth the effort. The longevity noodles was ok. The noodles as the best part - chewy and tasty. However the sauce tasted like it came out of a jar and then had ketchup added - it was oddly sweet. It reminded us of Chef Boyardee from the 70's. It came with 6 small shrimps that were overcooked. That's it. There was no veggie, peanut, etc with the longevity noodle. It felt one dimensional and needed either something fresh, crunchy (for texture contrast) or heat. The cocktails were good.

Had a reservation on a Tuesday for 5 people. Was able to call ahead to pre-order appetizers due to us celebrating a birthday. Ambiance was clean and modern. There was a full bar and an interesting display where there was a robot that assembled burgers. We did not order a burger but got a few things to share. Sticky fingers chicken wings *Surf & Turf spring rolls *Ahi Tuna rice bites Fun Guy (mushrooms) Caviar *Shrimp'n - shrimp with papaya salad Green Beans Sugar Cane pork skewers *Favorites Food was good. Service was better. Mostly came to celebrate a special occasion. Glad we did! Also, we were too full for dessert but we got a complimentary birthday dessert! Side note: the rose lemonade was delicious!

On my most recent trip, our reservation unexpectedly grew by a few people, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. We really appreciated how hard they worked to make it happen! The cocktails are next level creative, delicious, and unlike anything you'll find at your average bar. My absolute favorite is the Bidi Bidi Bom Bom shot! And of course, we always order the caviar because... why not? The vibe here is everything. Whether it's girls' night, date night, or a celebration, there's always an amazing crowd. The DJ knows exactly how to read the room and keeps everyone singing along/ dancing with banger after banger. One night there was even a live saxophonist who absolutely stole the show, it made the whole experience feel so special! I also love the Renaissance inspired artwork by the entrance featuring icons like Drake, 2Pac, Sade, and more. It's such a cool touch and adds to the atmosphere. No big deal, as I wanted the bar anyway, but something others should keep in mind. The cocktail list is plentiful and intriguing. I tend to avoid tequila, so that eliminated a good chunk of the options. I went with Rose Colored Lenses, which was fantastic, and decently sized. Presentation was beautiful. My friend had All a Dream, also very good. The wine offerings are minimal, this is very much a cocktail or champagne type of place, with caviar being the primary food service. Speaking of service, the bartender was excellent, both in his mixology and demeanor. It took awhile to get the drinks, but I assume that was due to the complexity of the cocktails, paired with having just opened the doors a few min earlier. Two notes: 1. The barstools were a little too low, imo. I don't normally pay much attention to that detail, but these were uncomfortably low for me, even with my long torso, I was hyper aware of my posture. So maybe that's actually a good thing 2. Other patrons were rolling in shortly behind me, so there is probably an early crowd when they first open, then a late night group that appreciates the 2am closing time. Interior is beautiful, and you can use the steps up to the 2nd floor either from N Santa Cruz or the rear parking lot off W Main. More substantial food options are a mere few steps across the hall at Heritage.

If you're hoping to sit inside, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. The service was wonderful from start to finish. My friend and I both ordered the smash burger and I've got to say it was easily one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned so well. The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and absolutely delicious. And whatever you do, DO NOT skip the bread pudding. It was a 1000/10! Not overly sweet, perfectly balanced, and the texture was incredible. If you're on the fence about dessert, just order it, you won't regret it. The prices were reasonable, the portions were generous, and the overall experience was excellent for such a cute spot in downtown Los Gatos. Will definitely be returning soon!

The jam was delicious and made it worth getting. - breakfast sandwich: not my favorite. I think spinach would have paired better than the arugula but that's my preference. The croissant was not as soft as I would have liked and tasted a little stale. Overall, not much flavor. - hash-browns. These were good! Best part of my meal. Cooked perfectly: soft on the inside with a nice crispy outside. - fried chicken sandwich: it was supposed to come with Dutch crunch but it didn't- sad. Also the breading was not very crispy or flavorful. The fries were the best part of this meal. The fries were the right balance of crispy and soft. The potatoes saved the meal. Wouldn't come back but it was to try it.

We had made the reservation for a hightop since that's all that was available inside, but to our delight we were seated at an actual table when we arrived. Two of us ordered a variety of apps and one main to share. We started with the beef tartare, cabbage, oysters, and beet crostini, then got the duck pappardelle ragu. To drink we each ordered two different cocktails. I loved the pasta, both of my martinis, and the cabbage. My boyfriend pointed out that the cabbage didn't taste a lot like miso or chili oil, which is what he was excited for, but this was still one of my favorite dishes. The ragu didn't have a ton of meat, but it was still so good, I would without a doubt order it again. The oysters were also good, but at $4 a pop, I'll enjoy those on a Wednesday when they have them on special for half the price. The beef tartare wasn't super oniony, which I did like, but the meat pieces were a little bigger than I'd expect and it just felt like it was missing something. The beet crostini was good, but it felt a little pricey for what it was and I would skip it next time. Service was fine, it felt like they were understaffed and could have definitely benefited from having another person or two on the floor.

To be fair, we visited for Mother's Day lunch, so the menu was understandably more limited than usual. Still, the overall experience felt much more casual compared to when I used to come here 12 or so years ago, when it had a more elevated and refined atmosphere. The service staff seemed fairly inexperienced, the interior decor now feels a bit dark and dated, and the food portions were surprisingly small. The food itself was good overall, but the limited selection was disappointing and left us wanting more variety. I may give their dinner service another try sometime down the road, but for now, I probably won't be returning anytime soon.

All the drinks pair well with the wide range of food options on their extensive menu. There's plenty of seating both indoors and outside, plus several TVs throughout for watching sports. I ordered the Hop Holistics, a fresh, fruity Hazy IPA with a low 5.6% ABV, making it easy to enjoy more than one. I also tried the Alpha Dog West Coast IPA, which has a higher ABV and was another tasty choice, especially with my burger. I went with the smashburger and fries, and it was fantastic. Packed with flavor from the Memphis‑style BBQ sauce, avocado, and pickled red onions on a brioche bun. We were sharing it, and they even split it onto two plates for us -- a small touch we really appreciated. Only complaint was the bartender was NOT friendly at all. We felt like we were making him work. Definitely need to get someone that wants to work and not that guy! Despite this, we'll definitely be back to try more of the menu and enjoy another brew.

We were driving to Santa Cruz on Memorial Day and it was such jam packed crazy peak traffic taking hours to move a mile, we decided to detour and take exit to Los Gatos. Now I've been to this cute rich neighbourhood city couple of times and enjoyed a lot. We parked at nearby garage. It was so damn now so loved the outdoor seating concept with play area for kids. My son loved running around here! Beer flight was decent, I didn't like any of the 4 beers given. We had pesto chicken sandwiche. It was not warm and tasted very normal Fried were cold and not seasoned well too. But it's great for outdoor seating and chilling with friends and family Self service , but good and drinks were super quick to arrive.

The cocktail menu is inspired by records, and you can feel the creativity in every sip. These aren't your standard bar pours -- they're clearly thought out and crafted with personality. If you're someone who appreciates a drink with a story behind it, you'll be in your element here. The live DJ on weekends takes the whole experience to another level. The music isn't background noise -- it's part of the atmosphere, and it hits right. What makes this place truly special is that you're getting two completely different vibes under one roof. Walk into Still OG up front and you get a casual, laid-back energy -- easy conversation, good company, no pretension. Then slip into the speakeasy in the back and the whole mood shifts. Alter Ego is a proper intimate lounge with their full bar, and it feels like a world away from the street outside. The transition between the two spaces is surprisingly seamless and genuinely fun to experience. And they're open late, which puts them in a rare category of places actually worth staying out for. Whether you're there for a chill night out or a proper evening, this place delivers both without making you choose.

Can still remember the gourmet dogs and duck fat fries back in the days... Awesome what they did to the place. The new set up with the dim lights and neon menu is noice. Ended up chilling at the front bar. Definitely will return to explore the back at a later time. Food: A We got to sample a variety of goodies and drinks from the menu, which definitely hit the spot. The skewers were cooked just right with a kiss of smoke from the grill. The takoyaki were good as expected--yum. We ended the excursion with the milk bread; it was surely a crowd-pleaser. It was fluffy goodness, topped with furikake, and served with a side of decadent house butter. Drinks were perfectly crafted and refreshing. Service: A We were chilling at the bar and got to hang with staff. Cool folks, will be back. - John
