We own 80 acres in Rusk, TX which has a 500 sq. ft fully-furnished cabin on it. On 9/15 (or 9/16?), we called Buchanan's Plumbing Service because a friend found the ceiling above the bathtub had collapsed due to water leaking from the attic (probably water heater). We live in Omaha, NE so I used BBB.org to find a local plumber there that had a very good rating. We got a picture of the bill on 9/16 showing a charge of $207.50; $187.50 for labor and $20 "truck fee". I called Mr. Buchanan and he said he had to dispatch two plumbers (why two?), only to find no leak. I conceded that he did have to charge a trip fee but that our friend would not lie the day before about leaking. Instead of fighting, we paid the full bill. On 9/30, a different friend went to the cabin and said the ceiling was leaking over the bathtub (does not know the first friend). My husband called Buchanan Plumbing back and asked them to meet this different friend at the cabin, and to NOT perform any work until quoting us a price. The next thing we know, we got a bill for $305.05; $250 for two plumbers (again) and $20 "truck fee" along with some hardware. No one had ever called my husband to OK the work. When asked, Mr. Buchanan said he tried to convey the message but the plumber(s) did not get the message (blaming our ruralness) which we know to be untrue because we have an AT&T tower less than half a mile away and everyone has cell signal (it is an Airbnb location and wi-fi is a service we provide). Buyer beware! They are NOT bbb.org members but they did have an "A" rating.
