I would recommend Tex Painting without reservations to anyone with an exterior/interior painting job. Working with Tex Painting to get an estimate for what I wanted in my full exterior house paint job was easy and with no pressure. The care, thoroughness, and preparation of the house were truly outstanding. The finished job is just spectacular. I'm getting compliments from neighbors and strangers alike when they pass by. Because it was going to be a big job, painting my 99 year old, three story (two-story with finished attic) house, I contacted several local paint companies for estimates. Patrick, from Tex Paint, stood out among the Project Managers and/or team leads I spoke with to get an estimate. First off he showed up exactly when he said he would -- which was true of every visit he made to the house. He was also extremely personable with a great knowledge of painting, of Austin neighborhoods, of old houses, and of craft brewing. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to begin with, which he patiently listened to, with only a few questions. He also thoroughly explained what the prep and painting process would entail. He patiently listened and answered my questions about the products and techniques they would use. Patrick then did a close inspection of the house, finding all the spots that would probably need some pre-paint carpentry work, and taking full measurements. I liked that at no point did I ever feel like he was rushing to get to another job site. He made me feel like my job was the most important -- which, of course, it is to me. Patrick emailed an estimate to me the next day that was complete and thorough, with break-out pricing for optional items (e.g. with and without the carpentry work; with upgraded paint options; etc). The estimate wasn't the cheapest I received, but it also wasn't the most expensive. It was right in the middle within $500 of the estimate from the two other paint companies I felt were the most competent. So I'm confident that Tex Painting's prices are fair and extremely competitive. We scheduled for the four-man crew to start during a rain-free window in the weather. Patrick showed up with the crew on the start date to do the introduction. Lupe was the team lead. He was very friendly, spoke English well, and during the job was always available to give me a status update or answer a question. Working from home while they worked on the outside was an interesting experience. While I had to be quick on the mute button with Zoom meetings while the crew was resetting every nail in my siding, it also allowed me to see the incredible amount of effort the crew put into the preparation. I got to hear them talk, joke, and even sing in good cheer while doing some of the hardest work I've seen a painting crew do. They seemed like a group of friends as much as a work crew. Plus, I love the fact that they are employees of Tex Painting, and not hired subcontractors. They worked long hours, from 9 in the morning until 7:30 to 8:00 with a short lunch break most days. And they worked on weekends. When I asked Lupe about taking a day off on the weekend, he said he didn't like taking days off during a job because as he put it, "he'd start feeling stiff and tired". I had to laugh because I knew exactly what he meant. The caulking job they did was as thorough and precise as the scraping job had been. The team seemed to take pride in every little aspect of the job they did. I was truly impressed with some of the epoxy-wood repairs they did to damaged architectural features in the wood. Afterward, one couldn't tell where the repair was vs the original wood. The prepping of the house took well over a solid week of work. But that allowed the actually painting to be finished in just a few days (had to juggle a bit with rain). As expected, Lupe and the guys were masters with the paint gun and with brushwork (of which there was a lot, with two accent colors). The result was nice thick layers of paint with crisp, straight lines. Needless to say, I'm thrilled with the finished product. It's a quality job that is going to last for many years to come; probably a decade or more. *San Marcos area* Adam Jones and his team were efficient. We had quite the issues with scheduling with our contractor's timeline, and Adam was very patient with our rescheduling issues. The work was wonderful. The bid was the lowest of the three we received. This had me worried that maybe there was a reason the bid was so low, ie poor craftmanship, but that wasn't the case. They had quite the endeavor with prep work before they could paint. We had issues with peeling paint from the former paint job, and they addressed those issues with multiple power washes, sanding and scraping until the peeling paint was no longer an issue. It took like three days of just that prep work. Tex did a great job of caulking, like five boxes of caulking was needed to fill all the window joints etc. The paint job is beautiful. We will be contacting them when we are reading to paint our interior. read more

Let's start with the good - I contracted with a painting service, and there is indeed paint on and in my house, and in the correct color. The job was done in a reasonable amount of time, and at least one worker will show up within an hour of the time they say they will. Now for the bad - Twice as expensive as the next best quote that I received, but my feelings from talking to Joel (salesperson) were that I would be getting top quality work for the additional cost, and that several concerns that I had would be handled with no problems. Plus, they had a really convenient "same as cash" payment plan (which is a misnomer, as you don't get charged a fee to pay cash, last time I checked). And Joel swore that everyone on the team was "legal" (his emphasis) and in-house employed and trained. After signing the contract, we had several miscommunication issues that made me uneasy, but they were worked out before the job was scheduled to start. First day of work, the guys showed up right on time. Great, I'm liking this! However, none of them spoke English, so communicating my needs was difficult. Immediately I noticed that the agreed upon and necessary prep work was not being done. Also, the guy that was pressure washing disappeared, and then i saw him in my neighbor's yard pressure washing their pond? WTF? Picking up extra cash on my time? Whatever.... Day one done, decent cleanup, and gone. Later than expected the next day, but work gets done. Notice several issues, but it's coming along. Foreman shows up, says he was told they were done and ready to move inside. Um, what? Half the trim hasn't been painted, what has been painted is sloppy, doors not done and clearly quite a few spots that are going to need another coat. Discuss that, miscommunication was claimed, we're back on track. Third day, bigger team shows up and everyone moves inside, leaving a solo guy to take care of the work still needing on the outside. Once the team is inside, I start hearing the complaints. Too much work, repeatedly. Sloppy cut in work, not doing prep, I'm getting concerned. Told the foreman, he'll take care of it. Not so much. On the final day, I was asked to go around and put sticky notes anywhere that i noticed a problem. Ya, because i have time to wallpaper my house with sticky notes. Several complaints about "too much work" and how that's not what they agreed to do. Like sanding down the joints in the crown molding and making them invisible. And touching up several spots on the walls that had been patched badly. I *asked* the salesman if i needed to have that stuff done before they showed up, and he assured me it was part of the service I was paying for! Come to find out, these guys were hired as contract work (off the street? who knows) and paid a third of what I was contracted to pay, and apparently the extra stuff that was agreed upon in my contract was not communicated to them. No wonder they're pissed - but I paid for the work, and I'm not particularly happy either. Then there was the smoking. They didn't do it in the house, but I'm still picking up butts from all over my yard. read more

I received a quote from Tex. It happened to be the highest one I received, but I would have still considered them since it was close to the others. I received a follow-up call today which I actually appreciated. However, the conversation did not go well. I told them I would likely use another painter and then he began to say how bad the other painter could be. His tone had immediately changed for the worse. I finally said I didn't have time to argue with him since I was driving. Whenever a company has to build their case by tearing down a competitor, it's an immediate turn off. They may do quality work, but this approach didn't settle well with me. **UPDATE: I received a call from the owner (Scott). He immediately took full responsibility (and ownership) for his employee's handling of the situation. He did NOT ask me to amend my posting, but I am doing so anyway! I am duly impressed with the manner in which he addressed my issue, and his offerings were very professional and courteous. He also did not try "sweeten the deal" in an attempt to get me to go with his company. I told him that if I did not go with another company that I would seriously consider his firm. You simply don't see this type of concern and for someone who built his business from the ground up, it's understandable why he typically receives high reviews. Stacie is a dream to work with bc she is reliable, honest, and has a really engaging personality. I was immediately impressed by her eventhough I am mostly skeptical of people trying to make a sale. It was also really refreshing working with a woman because most of the people in this field are men. There is a different flavor there when a woman is working with you. I also really appreciated her painting design ideas for the future after we discussed what was to be done in the main areas of the house. She is intelligent and has an eye for color. Very impressed with TexPaint right from the get-go. Clean simple online presence and easy to schedule a free estimate. Jon came out to bid and were friendly and professional (and safe!). They clearly have the process down.They get bonus points for accommodating our timeline: we'd basically already moved out to put new flooring in and wanted to take advantage; they were able to start right away. We had the popcorn ceilings removed and the interior painted. It was a good value for the level of work involved. I appreciated Jon and his team's flexibility: for example, the day of we decided not to paint my daughter's bedroom, but we did want to include our french doors. I also appreciated his consult: we thought we wanted to paint the doors but it was much more cost effective to redo the baseboards. Finally I appreciate his customer service: for example, the clean up job was not very thorough, but he outright asked me, "What can we do to make this right?" so we could work together on a solution we could both be happy with. My only complaint would be about the communication around the timeline specifically. Trying to adjust to COVID (working from home with a toddler) but not actually allowed IN your home, was pretty rough, but to not really know when we could come home was stressful. I take responsibility for scope changes, I only wish he'd projected worse-case instead of best-case scenario. (Note to all professionals: It is 1000% times better to overestimate.) BUT I also believe I was pressuring them whether I realized it or not. Thus, I felt the job overall, and definitely the clean up, was rushed. We just had our house repainted by Tex Painting. My wife and I are super satisfied with the work and detail they put into making sure the project was perfect. The staff took the time to ask questions to clarify throughout the time they were working. They went above and beyond to make sure that we were 100% happy with all the work they did. The sales rep and the owner, Scott, both took time to make sure we were happy and asked questions as well to assure the outcome would exceed the expectations, which it did. This review is long overdue! Patrick and his team painted our home and did a phenomenal job. They are excellent painters and are extremely skilled, there is no doubt about that. But, Patrick went above and beyond in every way. What really impressed me was how much Patrick cared, not just about the job but also viewing our home and the renovations as a whole. During his 2nd or 3rd walkthru for an estimate (I kept calling him back for extra work and he always promptly came as scheduled), he noticed some low quality work being performed by another company I hired to do kitchen renovations. I was out of town, Patrick discretly took pictures and contacted me right away. He must have spent 45 mins talking to me on the phone explaining the problems with the project, helping me understand so I can re-direct that company to correct their work. He didn't have to do that! It wasn't his project that was going wrong, but he went out of his way to protect me, as his client and the overall quality of the renovations - again, even though they weren't his! Patrick saved me big time. I would have never known about this issues and frankly, I don't have the skill level or eye to see all the details that he does. Because of him, I was able to communicate with the other company and have them fix their work before they signed off. When we initially met with the salesman in our home, we advised that my husband works out of his home office and I'm a stay-at-home mom, so we would both be home throughout the cabinet painting process. The gentleman said no problem - they use a base and paint with minimal odor and the job would take 3 days. We agreed on a price, paid upfront, and scheduled the work. The employees came and it started off well enough, until we were told we should not be home for the painting process as they will have to use a stronger base (meaning potent fumes) due to the type of cabinets we have (they were wearing double-vented masks). They had already started everything and it was the middle of the day. We had to quickly pack up our lives and go to a hotel with our 1 year old daughter and 80 lb dog. When my husband contacted the Project Manager, he apologized for the inconvenience, but went on to say that we weren't charged enough for the size of our kitchen (as if that was justification for us having to spend money to stay at a hotel unexpectedly for four days due to painting and fumes, my husband lost work because his entire work set up is at home and part of his pay is commission-based....and a small hotel room with a large dog and small child is no fun at all). My husband told the Project Manager that the price is ultimately irrelevant. What matters is that we were given very inaccurate information. Also, the conversation with the Project Manager was the last we ever heard from anyone other than the painters. Not even to check in with us to see if it went well or if we were happy with it (we were decently pleased with the final look). Because they made a pricing mistake, we ended up feeling like a throw away customer. It's upsetting to us because it was nothing we did. One last note: the job took 5 days and would have been longer if the painters hadn't taken pity on us and come in on a Sunday to finish everything. I had an appointment for a free estimate on Saturday, 12/18, at 9am. At 9:10, I called Tex Painting because no one had showed up or called to state they were running late. Their answering service had no indication that I was scheduled for an appointment even though I had email confirmation. They advised me that they would have someone look into it and call me back. At 10:30, their technician, Andrew, called me stating he accidentally went to the appointment after mine and they happened to be home so he completed his appointment with them. Nevermind he was a no show for my appointment. You would think he would have had the courtesy to call and advise me he was late when he realized he went to the wrong appointment first. Instead, he called 1.5 hours after the appointment was supposed to be. I wanted a quote, so I allowed him to show up 2 hours later at 11. Now, I was told at the conclusion of this appointment that I would have my estimate by Monday, 12/20. It is Monday, 12/27 and I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED any sort of estimate. I even text messaged Andrew last week either Wednesday or Thursday following up with him (12/22 or 12/23). I did not even get a courtesy text back stating he was working on it. Regardless of pricing, I WILL NEVER use this company. I cannot believe a company like thid stays in business with this sort of professional conduct. What an absolute embarrassment. read more

1) After multiple discussions about the best products to use for our project, and signing an estimate listing the agreed upon products by name, they decided to totally change the plan and use cheaper products. When brought to their attention, I was told there is a paint shortage and also told about how busy and overworked the job supervisor is. He just couldn't find the time to tell us that he had made changes. Ok, whatever. 2) The painter's work was bad. The whole reason we were having our porch repainted was to protect the exposed wood where the old paint was flaking off. Despite saying they would scrape the peeling areas first (again, also in writing in the bid), the painter just painted over it without adequate prep. So I could just flake off the new paint with my finger. Sorry, but that won't work. When we pointed out all the peeling and he went back and "fixed it" by scraping it down and reapplying a coat of paint so thin you can see the wood through it. It took them 3 attempts to get the wood properly covered with paint. 3) The painter brought his girlfriend(?) with him to hang out in our yard all day. She picked up a brush a few times and did some painting. Otherwise she sat on our patio furniture smoking cigarettes. I asked her to pick up her cigarette butts off the ground and she just stared at me, then said she would pick them up before they left. Wtf? Shocked at the lack of professionalism by this "crew". There were so many issues that we ended up agreeing to pay less than their original bid. I was going to leave it at that, lesson learned, and not post any review, but I just found the cigarette butt in my flower bed that the painter's rude girlfriend said she'd pick up. For some reason, there was some uneven sheen on parts of the hardy siding (that was only visible at certain angles and lighting conditions), but they added several more coats to make sure it looked perfect. This is our second time hiring Tex Painting to paint our home. We are very pleased with the finished product. Barry's prompt and efficient bidding and scheduling of the project, combined with Jordan's superior project manager communication through out the project, earned Tex Painting a five-star rating from us. George and his team arrived on time, worked efficiently and cleaned up the job site nightly. They had to contend with wind, rain, and working around temperatures that often dipped below 55 degrees. They did so without complaint. On one particular part of the job they were very responsive to our stylistic requests regarding how the trim was painted; requiring more effort on their part, but giving the job a designer-look finish from ours. Patrick handled our interior home painting project several weeks ago and we couldn't be happier with the service, attention to detail, ease of communication and turnaround time. He made great suggestions and was very knowledgeable about the work we were requesting, types of paints and gave honest and straightforward estimates for each facet of the job.
