This is regards to Dr. Ekeh at the South Mopac location. Being 80 years old I have had substantial interaction with various medical professionals for a while. Never before have I come remotely close to the frustration that Dr. Ekeh left me with after my recent visit. The overwhelming feeling was "I can't make any sense out of anything he has said." He seemed to be grasping at straws. He said he wanted to ramp up my glaucoma medication despite the numbers were good and over more than ten years of my glaucoma successfully managed by someone else, now retired. Visual field tests show no major overall trend towards increased loss of peripheral vision. There was one recent test that was not good but I blame my state of mind when the test was taken. Indeed there is moderate to low loss of peripheral vision on one eye only. The vision issue I had been having has nothing to do with peripheral vision. Then he suggested bringing my cardiologist into the picture for neck problems -- again this is without high ocular pressures by their own testing. I stressed repeatedly that while it might be difficult I would like my issue diagnosed -- issue being that while driving in bright sunlight parts of my vehicle's instrument cluster and center display are washed out and impossible to read. There was nothing ambiguous about my description of the symptoms or my desire for diagnosis. I left with a prescription for additional eyedrops and a referral to a "Low Vision" facility. Low vision is defined as 20/70 or worse. My vision tests at 20/30 are not even in that ballpark. I had long texting back and forth with intake at the facility and when I told the very patient lady my symptoms was informed they had not told her any of that information re' symptoms etc. and it "changed everything." I canceled the appointment because they do not perform the needed diagnosis as to cause of the problem but teach the nearly blind how to use magnifying glasses, special lights etc. I feel bad for the waste of her time down this rabbit hole. To make that referral seems beyond clueless to me. I called the surgeon who has retired from Texan Eye and successfully managed my glaucoma for many years. He is also a personal friend and listened to my story and said the problem seemed like "dry eye" syndrome. Indeed, I have had moderate eye irritation for a while now but never made the connection or thought to bring it up falsely dismissing the irritation as allergies. he told me there were other things to look into if that didn't pan out but I have already noticed improvement using the drops he suggested. To solve any sort of problem it is best that the problem be diagnosed as the first step. Two doctors other than Dr. Ekeh currently at Texan Eye have not been able to do so. My main eye care doctor currently is Dr. Zhu. I appreciate that he was up front that he had no idea what the problem was and at one point suggested a retina or maybe it was a pupillary specialist. Unfortunate that he ended up referring me to Dr. Ekeh instead. Dry eye syndrome seems not to be that uncommon and there are treatments for it beyond drops some of which are just an office visit. It seems unfortunate that I have to impose on a personal friendship to get any useful guidance in my quest for the best possible vision. I had five star experience with Texan Eye for many years due to an excellent and caring doctor. This latest does not deserve one star. read more

I am so pleased to have discovered this location and Dr. Derham. I had an emergency with my eye the evening prior, and the office made time for me to come in. Dr. Derham examined my eye and requested some necessary labs for accurate diagnosis. However, she had a good initial diagnosis we were hopeful of. Two days later, the bad things were ruled out; she personally called me with the news and told me of the rx she was ordering. This was an incredible patient-centered service. The office, as of October 2022, has staffing problems, so there are signs warning you and requesting patience.  The folks who are there are working hard at their jobs to serve us, so please grant them some grace. read more

I was referred to Texan Eye for cataract surgery following a vitrectomy. From images taken immediately prior to our face to face visit, Dr Walters showed me how swollen the back of my eye was, explained how it was adversely affecting my vision, prescribed me eye drops to take immediately to bring down inflammation, and gave me a visual chart to take home to track the progress of the inflammation after taking the drops. That was a Wednesday. By the next Tuesday, when I was finally able to talk to a person who could access the file (several follow up calls later), there was apparently no record of ever writing a prescription in my chart. The supervisor made it sound like I imagined the whole thing (while also telling me it would not be possible to speak on the phone to the doctor). And then there is an administrative staff that seems utterly devoted to NOT doing their job ("that's not my department"). It took multiple separate calls over three business days--in addition to the calls above regarding my prescription--just to get a person on the phone (as opposed to a voicemail message) to schedule the surgery. Suffice it to say, once it became clear that they had no record of what was supposed to be an important prescription, I cancelled the surgery. I cannot trust my eyesight with an organization that exhibits this level of incompetence across the board. read more

Extremely rude physician! She is not worthy of one star. My family eye history involves glaucoma, Cataracs and eventually permanent blindness. I have been concerned with extreme blurry spots over the past few weeks. Considering my family history, I set up an appointment with this physician, hoping to get clarity and advice on next steps regarding Eye Health. Prior to entering the examination room, I noticed the physicians extreme fast paced style. It seemed as if she were spending a minimal amount of time attending and answering questions from her patients. In between examinations, I overheard her complain about having multiple new patients and new problems scheduled within her day. As I sat there, awaiting my turn, I was hoping she was not the physician I would end up with. Unfortunately, she was. My conversation with her started by her asking how I was doing.. I expressed to her, my recent concern as she was reviewing my chart. Once she checked my eyes, she quickly determined I had severe dryness and should get some over the counter eyedrops. She, additionally, suggested I inform my primary care physician to check my vitamins and insure my vitamin a was not deficient. She opened the door and offered me free eyedrops that I could then purchase over the counter at my preferred pharmacy. Her fast paced walking, left me with confusion and unanswered questions. I still had questions in regards to an upcoming Lasik surgery, and would have loved a professional opinion on whether this dryness would affect my procedure. The front desk gentleman helped me book a follow up appointment but I'm genuinely concerned not only for my personal iHealth, but also the other patients within this office whom look to be senior citizens. I am extremely disturbed. The patients I viewed in her office, are potentially not receiving the care and attention that they need. Perhaps others are not as concerned with this level of horrific bedside manners, but I deem it extremely unacceptable and disappointing for Texan eye-care. read more

I went for an annual eye exam with an opthalmologist. Very streamlined office. That's great if you want to be in and out as quickly as possible, but not if you want an explanation of anything they are doing. The assistant who put in the eye drops and gathered the initial testing was great, but the opthalmologist did not greet me, introduce herself or really look at me in the eyes except through the machine. Then she turned away to write a prescription before ushered me to the checkout and left. She couldn't have been in there more than 1O minutes, then no goodbyes, nothing. Good thing I wasn't needing any bedside manner. Checkout was impersonal but efficient as well. One of the most impersonal doctor's offices I have been to. I'm giving it a 4 because it did what I needed, and quickly. But I hope the office reads this and has a discussion with the docs about spending a couple extra minutes per person for at least a greeting and a goodbye. Is that too much to ask? read more

Up until May 5th my appointments had been pleasant. I fault Texan Eye for having such a Rude, Inconsiderate Optometrist on staff with a Bad Bed side manner. I absolutely will never be seen by Dr. Jeffery R Lane again. That man rushed in, rushed me, hit me twice with phoropter machine, my mother saw this and spoke up. He severely changed my Rx, which i protested. We then watched him push the phoropter machine back with force and attitude. Once my office visit was over he told me to follow him. Once I got up off the chair to get my purse he was gone. I eventually found him in the glasses/contacts department. Patents should NOT have to pay their Co-payments to physicians who treat them this bad. I have to make another Optometrist appointment to be treated with dignity and make sure my eyes are healthy. I will not send anyone to this physician, in fact people should be aware. Thankfully, I had someone there with me to witness and be my advocate. read more

Went for an exam and the Doctor told me I needed cataract surgery in one eye which she had told me before so, that wasn't a surprise. Right, away I started receiving calls from scheduling to setup the date for the surgery. I told them I needed to get financial information and more information about the type of lens I wanted. The girl was very rude and said I only had 90 days after I saw the doctor to get it done otherwise, I needed another exam, but she said she would have them contact me. No, one ever called and then I received another text telling me to schedule. I called and left a voice message since no one answered asking again to call me. Then another text saying, I had to make another appointment before I could schedule, and it mentioned a completely different doctor. I called again and the girl that answered the office phone if possible was even ruder and she said, I never had an exam for cataracts to start with and I needed to see a doctor. I told her I did and why would scheduling be calling me if I didn't. After arguing back and forth about it I hung up. I am very suspicious of a place that wants to schedule you for surgery without providing you any information. I basically wanted to make sure it was covered by insurance which means the standard lens and not the $3000.00 lens and I am sure if I just had surgery without speaking to anyone about it I would have received the $3000.00 lens. read more

I went here for my elderly dad poor guy is loosing his eye sight so we made a appointment to go here cause his doctor recommended this place. Don't get me wrong the front desk gals are very helpful and friendly they are super nice. The dr was supper nice to. The problem is with the assistant that did the eye test come on now I get it the older folks are slow and can't move as fast and this guy didn't have the patience to help with my dad and the rolling of his eyes I wanted to kick them eye straight. 1) Tech gave me a "bad" eyeglasses prescription (found out AFTER I ordered and paid for glasses. 2) Eye DR. also wrote me a 'bad' glasses prescription. I cannot wear either glasses that I paid for. All of the negative reviews made me really nervous before my appointment. However, my experience was wonderful! My technician Liam was honestly super great and took lots of time to make sure my prescription was just right. He was very courteous and respectful. As soon as he started working with me I felt a sense of relief and as if I was finally going to get a prescription that fit me 100% well. Something I've yet to get thus far from my previous eye dr. Then Dr. Lewis saw me and was just as equally awesome! He of course double checked the work and made sure I was extremely informed and did not pressure me into purchasing my glasses nor contacts from their office. This is something my last eye doctor was big on pushing. All because of this I will continue to be seen at this office and purchase my eye wear for them. Great job guys! I was on hold for 12 minutes & then told that she is due for her annual appointment therefore they will not give us a prescription for eye glasses. CONSISTENT HORRIBLE SERVICE. I came in for my yearly eye appointment at 1pm, and they didn't get to me until 2pm! I sat in the waiting room for 40 minutes while other patients who arrived later than me got helped before me. I then go to the front desk to complain, and they say the Doctor will get with me in 10-15 min. I was close to just walking out on my appointment until I was called by the Doctor. I wasn't even in the Doctor's office for 15 minutes. Absolutely ridiculous. Extremely unprofessional. And I had to pay $150 out of pocket for a $15 checkup that they were AN ENTIRE HOUR LATE FOR. It is extremely inconsiderate. I as well as other people have other things to attend to and I was almost late to work. Things like this have happened to me more than once. read more

I've been there twice and I don't understand the negative reviews. I had a great experience both times. The staff and the Dr. Sargent were wonderful. I read some of the complaints. Yes, some doctors charge for missed appointments, period. If you can't make it, give notice. If you forget, you will be charged. Suck it up. The assistants and doctor's time is valuable. They spent an entire hour with me. Don't expect to create a long personal relationships with the staff and the doctor. Hell, chances are you only see them once a year. I had to wait about two weeks for my appointment. That's a sign of their popularity. If your cornea is scratched...you need to go to a minor emergency center! It's excruciating pain! BEFORE you make an appointment with any kind of doctor check if they accept your insurance! Geez people! read more

Wow, had no idea I'd be back to update a complaint about this place. I purchased Silhouette frameless glasses here many years ago. I was told quite sternly that the parts of the drilled frame could not be reused and the glasses most definitely could not be repaired if broken. I was under this guidance for years now. I understood what I thought were the reasons for these rules. Flash forward to today. I just went to get another pair at a different office, I'd finally done the deed, the arm broke. I love this brand and it's only sold in certain offices in this city, thank goodness I didn't have to go back here, because I learned something quite interesting. While the drilled pieces likely cannot be reused, they CAN be repaired! I was shocked when I found this out at another office. They don't fix the piece that broke, they replace it. Of course, it's not free, but it's just the price of replacing the piece, not a whole other pair. Texan was so shitty about this, never once considering to be kind or tell me that this was the case. When this sweet woman at Oakhill mentioned it as I commented why I was getting another pair, I had to do a retake. What?! I was lied to then, good to know! Wow....total disappointment, the only reason I went is because my neurologist insisted I get my vision check due to my chronic migraines & pressure by Dr. Sargent. I work in the medical field myself, I should've canceled my appointment as soon as I saw the little sign at the front counter as you check in the says... "We are sorry about the wait but we are short staff". The lady at the check in desk gave me my paperwork within 2-3 mins came to grab it and said "I'm sorry I have to take your paperwork the doctor is ready for you" without it being completely filled out. Like who does that? I'm thinking to myself they, have no history on me? Then they took 15 mins to call me back. After the assistant finally called me back she had my last name spelled incorrectly and I felt like she was rushing through. Finally... Dr. Sargent came in the without even introducing herself, didn't even acknowledge me... crazy. Look at the paper chart because that's the only office that still uses paper charts. Finally she looked into my eyes and asked what was going on or what brought me in? Okay, like you have the chart in front of you, you never even acknowledged me... seriously. Then I asked is my current prescription for my glasses okay... yes. Like that wasn't clear to me! I need a better answer, has my vision change? Been going for years but so tired of the nickel and diming. Went for my usual check up recently and knew to ask my doctor during the appointment for a written prescription. They have charged me a ridiculous amount in the past to get a copy of my own prescription. My doctor offered me to try a new set of contacts. She said if I liked them that she would just write me a prescription for the new set. However, the contact lens department informed me that there would be a $75 charge to get a copy of my new prescription. Ridiculous! If I could leave 0 stars on this review I would. I am literally shaking while writing this review. All of my husband's appointments up to today have been great. However, today all of that changed my husband came in for his contact lenses fitting no big deal. The receptionist at check in was lovley, the assistant to took him back to get him fitted very sweet. She was very informative and helpful. After he tried his contacts on they asked that he have a seat in the waiting room for the doctor. Fine no problem. My husband sits down and he felt like something was in his eye, seeing that we are at the eye doctor I walked back into the area he was in to see if I could get him some solution and rinse out his eyes. There was an employee sitting at her desk and I said excuse me Ms. she looked at me and shued me away rolled her eyes and closed her door. ​I have never been treated that way like I was a Roach or something. I walked out and went to the front desk to ask and see if I could get some assistance and explained what I just expirenced. She quickly offered to assist me however, when we went back into the same room the same employee was combative and did not want to help or give me contact solution. Texan Eyes administrative service is brutal. You may ask, then why do you go. Its because Dr. Kristen Sargent is as good as it gets. I come from a medical family and see Dr. Sargent, who is an incredibly highly regarded Ophthalmologist that has always been extremely diligent and thorough with my complicated eyes. But, I warn any new patients, be prepared for a horrific customer service experience from the administrative staff. It's unfortunate because the good doctors of Texan Eye are being dinged because of this. Texan Eye, please learn how to answer the phone, book an appt. and check us out without all of the abuse and attitude. And, if by chance we have been a patient for 10 years and have never changed our insurance, you may want to revisit the brain damage you put us through just to see the good doctors. read more

My family used to go here. Not anymore. There is only one thing you need to know. The customer service here is horrible. Absolutely the worst I have ever experienced. I recently woke up with an eye infection and tried to make an appointment here. My friend, overhearing the phone call, actually commented, "I didn't know customer service could be that bad." The receptionist, with the a tone of utmost distain, told me that an eye infection wasn't important enough for them to schedule an appointment. I asked why, and she said it just wasn't important. Let me repeat, they told me that they were above my eye condition. It was the last straw for me. Every other visit, I have been treated like cattle. They rush you through your appointment, don't listen to your questions, and then push you out as quickly as possible. This has resulted, over the years, in two incorrect glasses prescriptions for me, and one incorrect prescription for my sister. No apology given. Horrible, horrible, horrible. read more
