    The chilaquiles plate
    Elaine S.

Today, we decided to try a different menu plate. My husband and I went for the green sauce chilaquiles that includes bistec and two eggs. We selected this item based on the promotion that is on the wall at the restaurant. We are extremely dissatisfied with what we received. The promotion is completely deceiving regarding the bistec to be received with the order. I recommend that the promotion picture be removed or reduce the cost of the green chilaquiles plate to avoid customers be dissatisfied or notify customers that the bistec meat on the wall is not what you are getting. On the other hand, the young lady, Katerine, that attended us made our experience fantastic. She was very jolly, kind and attentive. Excellent customer service received from her.

Interesting type of sandwiches but when you sink your teeth into it you'll truly understand what an authentic Tortas is all about. These guys have this food cornered, awesome flavor and great service. When the word gets out it will be standing room only....have a happy meal!

So far everything we have ordered has been pretty good. I mostly recommend their Pambazo, it was sooo good! I thought I liked the BT til I tried their pambazo, and now I get the pambazo when I go! As for the chilaquiles, they were pretty authentic and delicious!

    Panbazo

Amazing Panbazos!!! I had a craving and found this restaurant near me!!! They have mostly tortas on the menu and they all look delicious. The panbazos were so delicious!!!

La Houston combo w/jalapeño sauce and chipotle sauce on the side.

The food was excellent. Atmosphere was just as good. The nearby TV was kept on sports (which I enjoyed). The staff was very friendly. I think they used to have small and large sized tortas but now they only have 1 size if I'm not mistaken. Not sure what size it is that comes with the combo but that's the size I got- again just 1 size now. I got the Houston torta (it's basically a torta de milanesa) and oh my goodness it was so good!!! Fresh prepared and crispy. LOVED ITTTTT! Hubby got the Duranguense which is like the Houston but includes chorizo and melted cheese. He also highly recommends the Duranguense. I hardly eat spicy so the chipotle sauce is what I added to my torta. It just added a good flavor. So far it's looking like I may have to make a pit stop here whenever I'm on this side of town.

Torta chilanga: steak/milanesa, ham, cheese and vegetables

These tortas are really good! Totally worth the drive. We had the Houston, the Chilanga and the basket of French fries with cheese and bacon. Recommend all of these. The "small" one is like for one person, it's not small at all. As a Mexican I felt like it did taste like home Would definitely visit again!

Do not be fooled by the looks of this food. It looks good but it was lacking flavor. It was bland and expensive as well. We tried 2 tortas and the nachos. Cheese and sauces was flavorless and cheap. Most likely won't be back here again.

Y'all forgot my top bread on my torta very good tho

The food was good but missing top bread on my torta, so it's very hard to eat with only 1 bread.

In the past they would bring out a bread basket, as a free appetizer like how some mexican restaurants bring out chips and salsa, however, they dont seem to do that here anymore. Service at the table was mediocre, our waitress took our drink order and on the way over, the waitress was spilling the drinks over the floor on the way to our table. After our waitress took our order, my gf did not get the mayo on the side as she had asked, and after we received our food, our waitress never came around to check on us, didn't refill our drinks or anything. The place was very loud, louder than visiting waffle house. I was trying to have a conversation with my gf sitting just across the table from one another, and we were having to literally yell at one another just to hear what each other were saying. My gf did state that the sandwich she ordered was a big sandwich, and was more than she could finish. Once we were ready to go, our waitress still hadn't been around to check on us. So I had to flag down someone else, to get us some to go boxes, and our check. Low and behold, when I was ready to checkout, the waitress appears out of nowhere, after all this time, I'm guessing because she thought she was going to get a good tip. I'm sorry, waitstaff only get a great tip from me, once and if they perform a great job duty, and this was not the case in this matter. Maybe, better luck next time, maybe Papas needs to hire better waitstaff worth hiring and keeping.

I wanted to start with one biscuit, but the biscuits come in pairs. The waitress said I could order just one anyway, but the order ended up being two. I meant to save the second one for breakfast, but that was not to be. It did not survive long enough to make it out the door. My actual meal was a bacon swiss and mushroom burger, which was excellent. Between the biscuits and the burger, I am forced to acknowledge that it was entirely too much food. Sadly, that did not prevent me from eating all of it anyway. Delicious! The restaurant, which is a diner with very basic decor, is on an approach road to IAH, and is open 24/7. When I arrived in the evening, the place was empty. By the time I left, there were a whole bunch of customers. I noticed in other reviews that people were saying they did not receive checks for their meal and felt they were over-charged at the register. I did not receive a check either, but the amount I was charged at the register seemed accurate -- and I was paying attention because I had read the other reviews first.

The gentleman that greeted us was so nice and made us feel so welcomed! Our server was also very nice, and super helpful as I asked for a wine suggestion and she hit the nail with her suggestion. She brought a small sample for me to try before serving it. The food itself was delicious! We got the onion rings appetizer, and you could tell they were made to order. They were super fresh and also crispy. The chicken parmigiana was good, and they were not stingy with their portions at all. The picture I took doesn't do the dish justice. I will definitely go back to this place, as their food, service and overall experience is a great one when you dine in.

We shared a bowl of the potato soup where we had no expectations and I thought it tasted pretty decent. But the real test was the entrees. Mr. Picky ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp while I opted for Veal Parmigiana, and we each stole a bite from the other's plate. We reached consensus immediately that both dishes were well-seasoned and quite delicious, meaning we would return for more good food in the future. Seriously, we hadn't expected much when walking in and looking around, but were pleasantly surprised at the kitchen's efforts. We finished lunch with an order of homemade bread pudding and tiramisu, the latter of which in 2012 won a chamber of commerce epicurean competition 1st place ribbon. I wasn't there to judge that competition and have had better, but sincerely appreciated the moistness of the bread pudding. While the majority of diners were older and a more mature crowd, there's a lot to be said for value, and we thought the menu price was better than reasonable and I think a lot of people will discover this as a value destination, something we all appreciate.
