I was staying at a hotel nearby for an early flight the next morning. On the way to the hotel I saw the sign "Hot Biscuit" and since biscuits are one of my favorite foods, I decided to walk over and have dinner there. I wanted to start with one biscuit, but the biscuits come in pairs. The waitress said I could order just one anyway, but the order ended up being two. I meant to save the second one for breakfast, but that was not to be. It did not survive long enough to make it out the door. My actual meal was a bacon swiss and mushroom burger, which was excellent. Between the biscuits and the burger, I am forced to acknowledge that it was entirely too much food. Sadly, that did not prevent me from eating all of it anyway. Delicious! The restaurant, which is a diner with very basic decor, is on an approach road to IAH, and is open 24/7. When I arrived in the evening, the place was empty. By the time I left, there were a whole bunch of customers. I noticed in other reviews that people were saying they did not receive checks for their meal and felt they were over-charged at the register. I did not receive a check either, but the amount I was charged at the register seemed accurate -- and I was paying attention because I had read the other reviews first. read more

This is the kinda Mel's diner where you don't know if you love the food, the feelings or the people you meet here. I happened upon this after a late night concert and had a great time. I have gone back for nostalgia a few times during the day and the food was still made to order, prices were still reasonably low and the wait staff reminded me of a safe place to get rid of my day and my safe diet. Kinda feels like home, missing your childhood and humble beginnings. Somebody's intoxicated, somebody's on a first date, somebody's passing through, somebody's lost, somebody's on their third meal of the day (motel parking lot adjacent) and the server loves everything about your fancy bracelet or handbag. This is an unassuming diner near IAH and has the benefit of being open 24/7. We stopped by as we were picking someone up later in the night and due to travel time and time change and time zones, they were starving. It was super quiet, with basically only 2 other parties and our waitress. Our waitress was very friendly and kind, she checked in on us but didn't stick around to chat or anything. She gave us time to look through their menu, which has quite a lot (basically Denny's, IHOP, etc.). Food came out and was all quite enjoyable. I got the country fried steak and it wasn't a gourmet meal but I knew where I was and would say the food beat my expectations. The biscuit was soft and fluffy, they don't have real butter but again, its a diner by an airport and food is like $10-15 a plate. The hashbrowns were flavorful with very crispy pieces and the eggs and country fried steak were all great. I'd say I was pleasantly surprised by this spot and would recommend it if you're in the area and hungry. Overall, its a surprisingly nice and tasty diner that's super convenient for traveling folks. First, I am staying at a nearby hotel which my company books thousands of rooms yearly. I will be sure to tell everyone NOT to eat here under any circumstances. I was purposely duped by the waitress Paula so she could get tipped double. When I finished my meal she told me to meet her at the cash register. She rung up my order but did not produce the receipt for me to view. I was a bit suspicious but paid and left her a 25 per cent tip. Unbeknownst to me the tip was already included. Wow, talk about a hidden gem - this is one of them. First off, OPEN 24 HOURS ! This restaurant was clean, neat and had an exceptional selection of food. The waitresses were friendly. The service was quick. The food was phenomenal. There was nothing greasy about my breakfast- it was cooked to perfection- even the location was easy and convenient to get to. Plenty of parking. Plenty of room inside the restaurant- I was there very early in the morning and so the restaurant wasn't crazy busy ( which I loved ). If I come back to Houston, I'll be eating here. We came into town for one night pre-cruise and stayed at a hotel down the street from Hot Biscuit. It was easy to walk to. Their breakfast food was so delicious I wish I took a pic of it. It came out right away and was hot. We had the French toast with strawberries and whip cream. Oh it smelled looked and was delicious. No leftovers here. The price was good as well . Paula our host was the best. She went above and beyond. Great customer service. Took our order, set everything out on table and checked on us often. Last week I ordered the Midwest Benedict with home fries for breakfast and it was very, very good. So yesterday, I decided to pick up something for dinner to go. Based on reviews, I decided to try them for a hamburger and fries. The meal was absolutely delicious. The beef patty appeared to be 1/4 pound and it was not the cheap, no flavor type you get at a fast food place. The bun was toasted and the fresh lettuce, tomato, and onion were the perfect compliment. The fries were also hot and crispy. Much better than the Johnny Rockets on the ship, and less expensive as well. I highly recommend Hot Biscuit as your last meal before your cruise and the first meal upon your return. read more

New to the area for work, I was in search of a breakfast nook that's open 24hrs. This well lit cafe off I45/JFK was just what I needed. Other than the security of having two officers enjoying their respective breakfasts when I entered, Ms Carol was a lil ray of sunshine. After I ordered, I realized I was still 20 minutes from the job, so I had it packed Togo. Ms Carol took the time to make I had everything needed and a coffee Togo. They have a fairly extensive menu and we had options for a small meal. We chose the nachos. Portions were large. Service was prompt in all capacities. I stopped at the Hot Biscuit with my 60-yr old daughter yesterday for the first time aound 1 PM. We looked over the menu - which listed all-day breakfast service and many other selections. My daughter ordered the Grilled Chicken Stir Fry plate ($11.99) and iced tea ($2.59). I ordered a cheese omelet.($7.69) - with home-fried potatoes and pancakes - and coffee ($2.59). Her Stir Fry plate oddly came with a piece of thick toast (one might have expected an egg roll, since the dish was decidedly Chinese) and when she asked for soy sauce to put onto the main dish, there were no bottles available. However, the server made do by going into the kitchen and returning with a small serving bowl of soy sauce and also a small bowl of sweet Mandarin sauce (to put onto what, we never figured out.) My cheese "omelette" (their spelling on the check) was nothing more than three beaten eggs fried in an omelet pan and folded over on themselves, then sprinkled with some type of yellow shredded cheese. This produced a very rubbery, flavorless and tough "slab" of eggs. The home-fried red potatoes that came with the meal were cooked well, but made a very skimpy serving as there were about 10 small "chunks" of them. The two pancakes that I chose as part of the meal offering were dry and tasteless, even after applying several small butter packages and a very unremarkable syrup (which was however served warm.) I found the coffee was the best part of the meal; it was really deliciious and I asked for a refill. But, my daughter's iced tea was so clear one could see rirght through it. The bill ,with sales tax, for this miserable meal was $26.91. read more
