A few years back we use to go frequently and it was a great range (the one in Plano area next to the golf store) however more recently that site closed. As I understand, they are working to find a new location but til then have to rely on the assorted collection of ranges spread out across the DFW community. Some of these require membership to access (with membership card). I've been unable to try any of the other ranges as my previous membership expired so will hold off on full review until can get to one of these ranges successfully. read more

When we found the Groupon for Texas Archery Academy that was $10/hr including a short instruction (they put the timer on for an hour after the short instructional video and in-person demos), I was really glad we tried it out here. The staff was friendly, patient, and encouraging, even to newcomers. We were able to learn the safety and different techniques and tips on how to shoot the arrows. I like that everything is very organized here, and that there are targets such as animal cut-outs or balls you can aim for. Looking for something different to do with my daughter and we ended up here. Neither of us have actually held a bow n arrow but we watched "Brave" and "Hunger Games" and felt we'd be experts. The truth was something totally different. The staff was very friendly knowledgeable and helpful. Walked us thru every step with patience and gave great suggestions for improving our aim. Bought a groupon for my son to try out since he's not a really sporty sport guy. The employees were very thorough with explaining the rules on the facility and also instructions on shooting, etc. My son loved it so signed up for membership, membership comes with free use of the facilities any time during business hours for unlimited amount of days and times and includes borrowing their equipment. read more

You can choose to get their yearly membership which offers an outdoor range in Elm Fork TX (& basically, go hog wild LOL) The only thing is, you have to have your own equipment there. Great experience! My 8yr old son asked to try archery. We purchased a Groupon for our family of 4 and read that they have instruction every hour on the hour. Don't pay any attention to that. We walked in just before 1 and actually waited about half a hour (not really a long wait considering you can stand and watch what others are doing). You start with a instructional/safety video and then they have you set up where one of their staff will walk you through the process again. Safety first, kids! We had a fantastic time and it's more or less self regulated. You just go at the same rhythm as the rest of the people on your range to shoot, put your bows down, grab your arrows, get your bows and repeat. We'll likely be back. We saw some neat ranges that we wanted to check out. read more

This is a worst place to go as the instructor (from Indian origin) on the floor was so rude with all of us and surprisingly kids too. Other instructors on the floor try to show off by correcting you very rudely. This place really needs training in giving a customer support experience. read more

I bought a Groupon for Texas Archery Acadey in November 2012. There were no open dates in November or December. I made a reservation in January 2013 for March 31. This was past the expiration date of the Groupon, but their website said they would honor all expired Groupons until June. Apparently, I was not the only one having difficulty obtaining a reservation. March 31 happened to be Easter Sunday. Our entire day was scheduled around this event as a fun group activity. We drove 40 miles on tollroads that morning to get to Texas Archery Academy. We were very excited and looking forward to having an excellent time. When we arrived, the parking lot was empty. On the door hanging by some blue painter's tape was a piece of notebook paper stating that they were closed. Nobody had bothered to call to notify us. It was a long drive home. We left a voicemail message for them immediately asking for them to respond. Nobody did. A week later, we called back and left another message and still nobody has called back. I submitted for a refund today from Groupon. I hope none of you have to experience the disappointment that we felt that morning. Customer Service is important. A phone call notifying us that they had decided to close was all that was needed to not have me write a negative comment. Buyer beware. This place doesn't care. read more

Everything about Texas Archery Academy is fantastic - the facility, the staff, and the equipment. We've never done archery before, so my sons and I took the Introduction to Archery class this week. We learned how to avoid being shot or otherwise impaled, the proper way to handle a bow and arrow, and how to aim and shoot an arrow. Then we were able to practice with the equipment that they provided, under the watchful eye of the instructor. I ended up purchasing the family membership, which breaks down to $15/month for a family of four, but must be paid up front. The membership gives you access to the range and equipment (bow and arrows) at no additional cost, and you can buy targets at a dollar a pop. I haven't had to do that yet - I'm not good enough to require pristine targets :) You can also bring your own targets. I went back today during my lunch break - something I plan to make a regular habit. It's a great way for me to get off my rear and clear my mind for a bit. There's been a fair mix of male and female archers every time I've gone, and all skill levels. The staff is great - helpful and friendly. Got some tips from a couple of other archers, too. I can't recommend Texas Archery Academy enough if you're interested in trying something new. My sons have fallen in love with archery - they ask everyday when they can go back. And we'll be back soon. read more

I don't get what's not to like about this place. It's FLIPPIN' AWESOME! We have been members now for three months and have been able to use their equipment each time. Now...the equipment is pretty awesome if you don't have your own. They take the time to show you how to shoot and give you a quick lesson - then release you on to the range. Members get access to 'member areas' and walk-ins get different access. Did I mention you get to rent some pretty bad-ass equipment?? I believe the rental is $10 for the equipment and $10 for the range. The best part about this place is the staff. They have fully qualified staff to help and answer any questions you may have. (Two instructors recently won medals at CDAG in Guatemala!) They offer many classes and camps during the summer. Our experience here has been nothing short of fantastic! We love it and plan to be members for years to come. read more

Been a member for almost 2 months now. The place is spacious, good air flow from the massive vents above. This is Texas, got to hold of the humidity. Ranges are better labeled now than they were a month ago. Waiting line, shooting line are clearly marked. Never really packed so I don't feel bad lugging a recurve on the line. It is unfortunate people had bad Groupon experiences, but since the 2 months I've been here, the instructors and classes have been excellent. Perhaps the whole Groupon reservation availability is becoming difficult because the place is growing in popularity. There is a lack of left handed recurve risers, hence the -1 star, they only goes up to 19#, right handed goes to 30#. Plenty of compounds to loan out though, no lack there. Signed up for Archery 101 and so far the classes have been very helpful in providing me with the knowledge to reproduce great results. read more

Took my boyfriend here this past weekend and he absolutely loved it! We came around 11:30 and the guy at the front was very informative and friendly. It's strange that this encounter was very different from my first time here a few weeks ago. I came early on a Saturday morning and signed up for the same class with my friends but we only got 1 hour and literally 30 minutes of it was repetitive instructions from one of the older instructors there. It was $20 with credit card and $15 if you paid in cash. This time we got two hours for $10 each. The guy said they had a special on the weekends if you come in before 12pm. I was confused but wasn't going to argue about getting more time for less money. We got to try both types of bows they carry which was interesting. Targets are evidently $1 a piece so bring your own if you want. They also have other facilities in Texas which we will be visiting. 1 year membership is $150 which isn't bad if you want to go regularly. read more

Wow, it sounds like in some of these reviews they've really dropped the ball in the past, but all I can write about is my personal experience. It's an indoor archery range. We went yesterday (el 5 de Mayo) and the weather was really kinda chilly outside, but I wonder how it gets in the summer. But for us, it was just fine inside. I went with a group of I think 8 or 9, and we had an instructor, Cody, for 2 hours. Cody was perfect for our group, and she definitely knows what she's doing enough to teach a gaggle of newbies how to shoot at targets 10 yards away. For a 2 hour party, we spent time trying different bows, as well as a couple of contests - elimination contests with balloons as well as team competitions. That made it even more fun, because I like to win. By the end of it, I know a couple of our group had already signed up for a membership, and several more of us were thinking about it. I guess now I know from other Yelpers that I should probably at least call ahead before I leave the house to make sure they'll be open. I have to admit I'm surprised, seeing the other reviews, because my experience was so good. Either they have improved, or we got really lucky. read more

I am a 34 year old mom of two boys. I have been curious about archery for the last year and finally bought 4 sessions with a girlfriend. Omg! I had never held a bow in my life and in under one hour We were shooting from 10 yards not going outside the target!! Clint is a born instructor. Encouraging, patient, soft spoken,thorough and best of all easy going. We were so nervous we were sweating through our shirts! He had us laughing and relaxed in minutes. We really enjoy the Texas Archery Academy! We have taken classes and have received excellent and careful instructions from each person there. And, we both hit the bulls eye! We really appreciated spending time practicing, and learning the rules. The tournaments are quite good. We will be back, and have shared this great experience with several friends. I went to the Texas Archery Academy two weekends ago with some buddies from church. I hadn't actually shot a bow and arrow for over a decade, so I was looking forward to participating and having fun. We had a groupon for one hour of archery and only paid $20.50 per person so I would highly recommend getting that. When we arrived we watched a short video and then we lined up for target practice with our easy to use compound bows. The woman who worked there gave us tips and advice to perform better and hit our targets. Some of the targets included the traditional paper targets and then things such as a swinging ball and clay animals which were stationed on the ground and really all over the place. Overall, a great value to have some fun and the staff was awesome. read more

Ask for Cody when you go, he is terrific! I went in hammering him with a bunch of questions, and he was wonderful in answering all of them and not rushing me, making sure I had everything I needed and showing me the best ways to aim as well as shoot. This range in itself is also fantastic, offering long and compound bow rentals, with varying lengths of ranges as well as moving targets. For those like me with hectic schedules, they also offer 24 hour ranges with a one year membership, and the price was amazingly affordable. read more

Pros: They do stick to strictly Archery(as in no crossbows allowed). The instructors are awesome! A lot of them are very friendly and welcoming. Specifically: Holly Avendano, Charli Gackle, Amy Witt, and Jeffery Wong, and didn't catch the name, but she's young blonde that wears cowboy boots. It's a wonderful place for kids to get to sling a few arrows at targets and get a feel for Archery. The price is cheap, and you get to shoot all day for a 10$ range pass (After demonstrating basic proficiency). Being around members and instructors will make you an all around better shooter. I came in my first day and was barely able to score 20+ with 3 arrows. My third day I got a Robin Hood shot to put on my wall. Cons: The first couple of times coming here I felt really out of place. It definitely feels more geared towards the "Target/Competition" aspect of archery. If you're toting anything other than what you see on the Olympics you'll feel out of place. Hardly any 3-D targets, and it's frowned upon if you're shooting into them with high poundage bows. MAKE SURE YOU ARE WELL HYDRATED BECAUSE YOU WILL SWEAT YOUR ASS OFF. It's extremely warm in there, with poor ventilation, and definitely makes gripping a bow difficult. One thing I'd like to point out is the owner tends to walk around critiquing people on the rules and shaming them for missing one shot on target with barebow ( I missed 2" low on a 3-D deer target with recurve barebow and had an arrow ricochet back to the shooting line because of a metal plate on their target wall). He kind of reminds me of Lumbergh from "Office Space" try to avoid him unless you're a member with an Olympic style recurve. read more
