I wouldn't pay attention to the older low star reviews. I haven't seen ANY of the problems mentioned in those reviews. First of all, keep in mind this is a non-profit business whose goal is to provide archers a safe place to shoot and to promote the sport of archery. They achieve these goal VERY well. It is well lit, air conditioned, has multiple ranges including a 3D range and a paper tuning range. For $10 you can get a quick lesson in safety and how to shoot, and you can shoot, all equipment provided. They have both recurve and compound bows for use. For $20, you can shoot all day on better equipment. There are different membership levels for their club, Texans Archery Club. For a $120 a year, less than the cost of a single movie ticket per month, you can shoot all you want with their equipment or your own, including the nicer recurve and compound bows. You even have access to a 24 range in the same building. Members can bring guests for just $5 and they can use the club's equipment. They also have reciprocal agreements with other ranges and clubs i. The are. I haven't seen any kind of snobbery at all as mentioned in some of the older reviews. I've seen the Olympic recurve shooters, sure, but I see more compound bow shooters. I often see traditional bow shooters as well - archers using one piece wood bows of a historical style. The facility is clean, well lit, has ample space for many archers, has nice equipment, and a very friendly and helpful staff. They offer resources to NTSA instructors and have several different classes as well. The staff has always been friendly, especially to Newbies such as myself. They ARE strict about safety. Notice I said STRICT, NOT mean. And that is to be expected since part of their mission is to provide a SAFE place to practice archery. I just don't see any negatives about this place. They level of safety, the well maintained equipment, cleanliness and friendliness they provide as a not for profit business is amazing. The place has gone down over the last few years was 4 stars and going up. High staff(pay volunteers??) turn over, lights not fixed,classes cancelled, horrible written communication with members, ranges open and shut for same said reasons, equipment in bad shape (most arrows in very bad shape), A/C broken and down for years and membership prices almost double for a family. Not all bad Bathrooms are clean has nice T.P. 100% of the problems comes from upper management. This was a really fun experience. It is fun for all ages and the staff was very helpful. We shoot the longbow for one hour. The instructor demonstrated how to shoot the bow and once we felt comfortable she left us so that we can continue shooting. Make sure you bring closed toe shoes and if you have long hair a hair tie. read more

My husband and I stopped in today to get some shooting in and had a pretty good time. The lanes are wide and there is a good amount of space for everyone to shoot. The range fee, if you aren't a memberis $10 and $120 for a yearly membership fee. My only complaints about the place is that it could have been a bit cleaner and PLLLLLEEEEASE turn on the air! Getting there: The GPS gets a little confused with the address. Look for the PGA Golf Superstore in Plano, and park in their parking lot. The archery place is to the left of the PGA Golf store. We didn't get the groupons since it looked like you couldn't use the groupons on weekends. We went there directly and asked for beginners' classes. Take cash if possible, since there's an extra charge for using credit card. They have the 30 minute course for $10 per person. They teach you how to aim, shoot and you get several tries before your 30 minutes actually starts. So you get plenty of time. Our fingers got sore after just 15 minutes. So for beginners I'd recommend the 30 minute course at first. Overall we loved the experience, and we'd definitely go again. read more

Went there yesterday to sight in a new compound bow. First time there and, quite frankly, was expecting way more. The website suggests that there are indoor ranges up to 55yards. This wasn't the case and I was limited to shooting at 20 yards. With bow season closing fast, I wanted to make sure my bow was setup for 20, 30 and 40 yards. Other issues include overhead lighting being out over several of the target "lanes", inattentive range officers monitoring youths/beginners (aerial draws, no look shot goofing off, and sweeping each other with notched bows) and sloppy enforcement of range rules. I was left with the impression that the facility was run down and lacked management. I did call before I headed to the facility to confirm what they had to offer and was unable to reach a real person. The voicemail directed me to the nicely laid out and deceptive website. After having driven 30+ minutes and leaving work early to get there I was less than pleased. On a positive note, the staff is friendly and willing to help and the adults there we're very friendly. If requested, I think a beginner could get some good quality training. Furthermore, I think it could be a place to get together with others and form some friendships. If they can tighten up on the safety concerns, correct the maintenance issues (lighting, etc..) and provide the longer ranges promised on the website I'd come in regularly. First time trying Archery and I had a blast with my sister and nephews! So when you get there, you sign in and they make you watch a safety video and instructions which was helpful for us newbies. When we were ready, one of the girls who worked there showed us some tips and helped us get started. All of the staff members were very friendly and ready to help when someone needs assistance. I've never done archery before but decided to give it a try since there was a groupon. This place is great for families, kids, people of all ages! We had a short introductory lesson before we started on how to shoot, safety, etc. You start off at 10 yards away, and once you can hit the target well enough you can move on to other ranges. They make it very safe and fun. I didn't give it 5 stars because the facility wasn't that big and so there wasn't much variety for those who are just learning archery. read more

I had always wanted to try archery, but never lived in a place where I could check it out. Then one week two friends (interestingly not connected to each other) told me that they were practicing at a club in Plano. So, I went there one Sunday morning and the following week on my second visit I became a club member. For only $10 per person you get to try a new sport for one hour while having fun with friends and family of all ages, where else could you do that? On top of that, everybody at this place has been amazingly friendly and helpful (and patient with me). This is not a business, it is a nonprofit organization that promotes archery. I am hooked, I am buying my first recurve bow soon to take advantage of all the local outdoor ranges that the club membership gives me access to. read more

Bought a Groupon with a friend. We got there around 5pm on a weekday, it was empty. They did say they would be closing down this location as the archery academy was a tenant and the property owner wanted to do something else with the large warehouse. The instructor/location manager was nice enough, he spoke slowly and repeated himself a lot but once we got started it was a blast! We all found we were pretty good, the hour went quickly and we all left wanting to come back again. We started off with the target, moved on to birds & bunny cutouts on the walls THEN we got to shoot at a small dinosaur dummy. As we left some seasoned archers with their own gear came in to practice, it was fun to watch them as well. For $10 an hour, you get to rent archery equipment and have group training which is a great deal. My friends and I had so much fun here that we stayed another hour and got to try their more advanced bows. The staff & instructors there are great. Our instructor (Jim I believe) was super patient with us and gave helpful tips. Tried this place out a few months ago with a Groupon and we had no trouble using it, even though it was a Sunday and one hour before closing (maybe that's why). We got our equipment, the guy showed us how to use them and told us the rules, and then left us to our own devices, which was kind of nice for just trying things out (it was just me and my two teenage daughters). I would have liked a little more instruction in how to sight, etc. but I guess that's covered in the Archery 101 class. Anyway, we really enjoyed our time there and recommend Texas Archery Academy to anybody who wants to try archery out first. You can always join as a member if you like it! read more

Nice and friendly staff, they are very watchful and helpful. The range in Plano is indoors and AC is nice on those hot Texas days. They also have a bow stringer and de-stringer that is very easy to use. The staff will also give you tips and lessons. I liked the place so much I got a one year membership. read more

Had a great time! Our instructor was pleasant, friendly and patient. We went fairly early before it got busier. Some of the arrows needed repairs, but we just turned them in for others, no problem. A delightful experience and no animals were harmed except for a styrofoam squirrel! read more

My boyfriend and I decided to try this place out with a groupon, the staff were helpful enough to show you around but other than that you're pretty much on your own, if it wasn't because of my own interest in archery in the first place I probably wouldn't be back. Awful!!!! Won't accept my Groupon because I came on the weekend - even though the Groupon doesn't say I can't use on the weekend. Awful customer service. Won't be back and will post on Facebook and other sites how awful this place is. At least I will get my money back from Groupon since Texas Archery lied - I guess they hoped being deceitful would drive business!!! Update: contacted Groupon and they refunded me within 24 hours! My child took the week summer camp snd it went well so I enrolled her in the level 201 classes. $125 a month. It was very disorganized trying to get her enrolled . Every time I spoke to someone else the information was different. Another mom was having the same problem at same time.there were 20 plus kids in the class all at different levels. And only one instructor who seemed overwhelmed . It was unclear who was teaching the people at the counter had no clue except to say "I'm not in charge of it" I am disappointed in the program after such a good summer camp. Don't think I will be back after this month. I except a little more at 125 a month read more

Bought a groupon certificate. Its hard to get someone to answer the phone, left several messages I never received a callback to schedule, when I finally got a hold of someone they would not honor the groupon! I would not recommend! Very poor customer service! read more

I was very impressed with this place, so much space to shoot, very friendly staff, definitely a fun place to shoot a bow.

I believe they are a non profit, set up to grow the sport of archery. What I have noticed is the more people join, the nicer it gets. Newer targets, more and better loan equipment. Indoor shooting and access to outdoor target and field ranges. Lots of opportunities for lessons, with certified instructors. Its not a store, its an archery range with equipment, targets, and coaches. The focus is a fun safe place to learn and master archery. If you want to get ready for hunting or go to the Olympics, I would go to the academy. I would suggest you give it a try, and if you like it join. If you want to learn archery, it's the best. P.S. The cost is pretty reasonable, you won't leave feeling like you just got ripped off. P.S.S. If you join and have your own equipment, the cost to shoot is the best anywhere. . I have also seen Olympics archers, international archers, National Champions, and a lots of folks who have never seen a bow in person..
