Acceptable quality in training, but poor quality professionalism as a whole. The main instructor - who seems to be the owner, I don't know - in my class, disrespected his own paying students in class, by making unnecessary and hostile comments. In addition to that, policy is unclear in relation to the time frame of the internet literature, and my access was suspended before I could take one of the two exams and get both certificates. I ended up with only one. Had my money refunded for the second, but still, some of my time was certainly wasted. Hopefully they will improve service in the future; they have the potential, as can be seen in old reviews, and also from their experience and structure. Sheesh, I am so frustrated with this company. I was sent their link from one of my supervisors so I didnt/don't think it's a scam, but the low-star reviews on Yelp are true. I read EVERYTHING on their website so I was clear about payment timeliness and that they would take 24 to 48 hours to get back to me. Well, I paid as SOON as I got my invoice; they were very quick to respond to take my money of course. But I waited for over 48 hours to get my welcome letter/course invite but it never came. It is now Monday the 7th, 5 days after they received my payment but still nothing. I have waited for over a week and sent multiple emails inquiring when I would get my certificate and still zero response back. AWESOME!!! I researched heavily before signing up for a LTC/CHL class. I came across TCTA and have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first. $35 per student and FREE for Veterans sounds way too good to be true. I also read some reviews and was a little alarmed after reading a few un-happy ones. But decided to give it a go. And, I'm glad I did. Because they turned out to be total B.S. Right off the bat my first interaction was a positive one. I emailed Glenn who responded within an hour inviting me to take advantage of TCTA's free CHL class for Veterans. I took him up on it and he scheduled me for the next available class. The facilities were nice, ample parking, easily marked with a TCTA Sandwich board and a large classroom type environment. Everything was provided, all materials, pens/paper and they even offered refreshments. Oh BTW, firearms are provided as well. They are ultra-clean and very well cared for H&K's. I almost wished I would've used theirs, instead of bringing my own. The class was exactly what you would expect. Dry. However, Glenn did an amazing job presenting the required information making sure that everything was covered. He explained everything in detail and made sure everyone understood what was being presented. Obviously there is a state mandated test covering all the topics previously presented. Basic 25 question test, T/F multiple choice. Almost impossible to fail, unless you did not pay attention. The last item before being issued your LTC-100 was to shoot. Glenn laid out the range rules and expectations beforehand, inspected personal provided firearms and we all traveled over to the range. The range used was nearby and as it is not directly related to TCTA required some additional check-in/waivers. While everyone was filling out paperwork/paying for range use the instructor was prepping the lanes. The qualification shoot went fairly quickly (5 shooters at one time) for how busy and the amount of people in the class. Overall, if you're looking for a knowledgeable and professional instructor at a great price come here. I cannot say any more about how glad I am to have done my CHL course here. I just finished this school for my level two, level three certification and it's was an awesome week. Glenn, the instructor very informative and great instructor and facilitated very clean. I also did my LTC on Saturday which he does for an awesome price and the gun range and less than an five minute drive from the class. Let me start with a disclaimer: I took the level 2 certification course last year, in February 2018. Hopefully their instructors have changed since then. I was one of two guys there for the level 2 cert. Most people (and there were several) were there for level 3. Because there was only two of us Level 2 guys, he spent most of his time ignoring any questions we might have had and skipping over everything we needed to know for the test because it didn't pertain to his level 3 students. The look he gave me after I took the test tells me I probably didn't do too well, which isn't shocking to me because he skipped through all of the slides regarding the level 2 certification. Loved this place i got my lvl 3 commission certification here and two years later it came time for recertification the company upholds its lifetime recertification as just last month all i had to pay for was the range fees and my ammo. I plan on using this company for myself and my wife for the chl/ltc class in the near future. Glenn is very knowledgeable in what he teaches and makes the class an enjoyable process instead ofin blowing through a PowerPoint slideshow and covering questions that would be on the dps security test. Once again i recommend this class for future security officers and anyone who wants to learn how to use a weapon for personal safety. read more

I was pressed for time and had to do my level 2 training with a different company, not TCTA. I could of taken it on line but since I relocated to Texas I thought the classroom setting would be more beneficially. Nope, this other company handed me a book and said, "read this." They came back in a few hours later and gave me the test. Now came my level 3, so I elected to visit TCTA for training. Glenn at TCTA does not just hand you a book and I'm glad. When you're deciding to do a job where you can deprive someone of their freedom by arresting them, a ton of questions come into play. You can tell by Glenn's instruction that he has years of hands on experience conducting security and running a reputable business. Although 40 plus hours in the classroom feels like 400 hours, Glenn is passionate about keeping his students safe and out of trouble when they enter the security realm. I have yet to complete the course, tomorrow is the last day. Im fairly confident with the information provided throughout the week I'll pass the final exam. Ya I'm writing this a little prematurely, but if I don't pass, that fault will be with me, not Glenn's instruction. A Google search for LTC classes in my area brought me to TCTA. Their claim is that they run the cheapest class in the metroplex, but upon closer inspection, when factoring in range fees, ammo, and firearm rental, they come out at about average compared to most others. You won't be saving much after they've nickle and dimed ya on everything else. I contacted them to see if they would offer a discount to a school teacher because they do this for members of the military, and instead of getting a generic negative reply or a simple "No", I received a snarky, pithy "Really?". This led to a back-and-forth correspondence where I needed to explain the reason for my request which then got bogged down in a petty "apples-to-apples" comparison of the income + benefits of my profession and that of a buck private or "vets working part-time security." In the end, TCTA effectively told me to pound sand and recommended 2 of their "overpriced" competitors (which really weren't all things considered.) This firm clearly doesn't understand or care about the importance of tactful communication. This should come as no surprise if they're "veteran owned and operated" because they're used to being told they're "special" or "the best of the best" and thus have no experience with powerful market forces such as customer satisfaction or basic human interactions within civilian society. If you value being treated with respect and dignity regardless of whether or not you're a member of the Praetorian class, then choose somebody else. My mom and I were going to take this course together and let me tell you the back and forth of emails that I had to go thru was so awful. I had received the invoice to pay but my mom never had received hers, so I wasn't going to pay unless I knew she could get in to, I had asked if I can put her invoice on mine since she never got one and it seemed like I was asking for to much. Whoever is in charge acts as if this is some secret course with all the back and forth, like pay this invoice and then you can find out where it will be. Needless to say with all the back and forth of trying to get my mom added to my invoice or even her own invoice only took place the day before the class was suppose to be, REALLY?? Get it together your customer service is awful you say in the video that people have said you get what you pay for which is the same class as an $100.00 but it takes all this back and forth to even see if you can take the course, I'm sorry my time is way to precious to be wasting it on having to go back and forth with these people about an invoice. read more

First off, let's just look at the display of professionalism. Glenn, you run a business and I would never dare tell you how to do your job, so it's your prerogative to treat your customers the way you want. I will not deny that the training I got at TCTA was acceptable. The firearms instructor, Mark, was an amazing help and one of the best shooters I've ever seen. No doubt. But to see a response to a review be so petty as to question who I was and to essentially blame your customer for all wrong doing seems a bit off base. To say that I didn't allow you time to call back is ridiculous. You know that you weren't going to call me back. Your tone when you said, "yeah, you know why" and hung up the phone, was a dead give away for me. If you were going to call me back, you left me no reason to believe that it would actually happen. If it was a misunderstanding between you and I, then that's acceptable, but you went into full lecture mode about something I made clear (in my opinion) that I didn't do. Additionally, you insulted my intelligence by stating that I had an issue understanding it or I didn't hear when you went over it in class. I think anyone that reads your response will see that you don't take well to criticism, but would rather put down your customers once they have given you their money. Like I said, I won't tell you how to do your job because you're a grown man. However I will provide the advice to anyone who may read this as a baseline on how to deal with customer relations... If there is an issue with a customer, regardless of what it is, and you say you will call them back, do it. Follow up to show you care about your customer after they paid money out of their pockets to support you and are looking to spend more time and money with you. Even if you think you've done nothing wrong. You have 2 reviews and both of them pertain to poor customer service and mine is speaking directly to you Glenn. I came to Yelp to get some quick contact information for (yet another) recommendation to a current employee of mine and I'm amazed at these negative reviews. I took a class with Glenn a couple of years ago and was so impressed that I still recommend him highly to anyone who asks. I have taken classes all over Central and North Texas during my years in the security industry and I still maintain that Glenn's class was the most informative training I have received. Glenn even removed a trainee from our class and sent him home for being disruptive and making disparaging comments about law enforcement and security personnel. I'm now Operations Manager for a security company in the Austin area and get questions quite often from employees wanting to pursue additional licensing or training. I always give them Glenn's information and I have yet to hear from anyone who was anything other than completely impressed with the depth of subject matter and the quality of training. When I interview job candidates who have received training here I always know that at the very least they have been properly exposed to the most important and basic fundamentals of safety and security. Not so with most training academies around. It is unfortunate that most instructors just pass trainees through and take the money. Glenn has an honest interest in turning out security officers that have the training to make good decisions and improve the industry. I feel that too often people don't take the time to post positive reviews of businesses so I just wanted to say my piece. I signed up for the level 2 class a week and a half ago. I made my payment and received the acknowledgement. The email stated I would receive a welcome letter with in 24 hours containing address and details etc. I never received the welcome letter even after a week of waiting. I emailed them stating this and have received no response. I called their # listed and it is automated and doesn't allow you to leave a message. I warn you not to do business with this company. Before you sign up for any of their classes, try to talk to someone and you will witness the poor service they offer. They are non responsive to emails, do not have an actual telephone # where you can reach a live person. In addition, if you read the way the owner responds to people, you will get a good idea as to his attitude. I took the day off of work, and wasted my time signing up for this class. I just finished the Level 3 commission officer training today, and am so satisfied with how it went that I made my review immediately. Glenn is the most passionate instructor I have ever had. I left feeling confident in what I learned, and will continue taking classes from him. Absolutely the worst training school I have ever attended! These guys are not professionals. They refer to security professionals as "guards", and frankly it's people like this that give the security profession a bad name. I am prior law enforcement, and have worked as a security contractor for Triple Canopy and never once was I referred to as a guard. The training was also probably some of the worst I have ever received as well. The classes in my opinion do not meet state requirements, as we went to class at 9 am, had a hour and a half lunch and were released around 3-4PM daily. We were in class maybe 20 hours for the week for the level III class. The instructor also instructed how to clear a weapon AFTER we went to the range the day before. Will never attend again, and would not recommend for anyone. Complete waste of money if your actually wanting to learn about the industry in Texas. read more

I paid for the classes and then looked at the reviews and I was like what did I get myself into but let me tell you he made the class fun and above all real informative with hands on training, he throws in the shot gun class for free when he could easily say you want shotgun its x amount of money but no it's free people he never once charged for coffee, he even allowed some guys to take a class when they didn't even sign up for the class online. When it says on the website don't show up to the class unless you get a confirmation email from TCTA he could have just said sorry guys but no he allowed them to do their re qualify. So far the communication is as good as it gets. There are disclaimers on their website about being sure you are available before signing up, as there are no refunds. This is very legitimate, as an empty seat is one that could have been used by a paying customer. I received at least two follow-up messages with directions and details, and was so excited to get this done. The night before my daughter was ill and I was up very late, until the morning, and I simply couldn't make the drive and once she was OK I fell asleep. I got a follow-up email from them later in the day expressing concern, and asking if there was anything they could do to help me out here, and I explained my situation, and stated I understood their no refund policy, but to my surprise I was given a full, no questions asked refund, and felt like they really cared about my situation, and this has only solidified who I'll be taking all my classes with along the way to multiple certifications. read more
