Wait time is ridiculous! With the average age of the patients being at least 70 years old, waiting for 3 hours is overkill. This is a human based business let's not over-schedule to make more money. The doctors are good surgeons, the office staff is hit or miss. They come to the edge of the overcrowded, not enough seats, waiting area and then whisper, may patients are hard of hearing, both patient names (first and last) which I think is a HiPPA violation. I am reading so many reviews that are low due to office wait times. Having grown up going to ophthalmologists from childhood, I am used to waiting when arriving for an appointment. My experience is the same for most medical specialists I have seen. Specialists are busy and have lots of moving pieces in their practice that are unexpected and cannot be scheduled ahead of time. Specialists perform surgeries and skilled procedures that often are unpredictable. All it takes is one of the pieces to not move as it should and it sets off a chain reaction for all of the others in their day. There are post-surgical and urgent care issues that arise with their patients which have to be worked into an already full appointment schedule of patients. You don't have these kinds of situations as much with a primary care physician, but I sure have with any surgeon I see. Dr. Koop, his front and back staff, as well as, the surgical coordinator is swamped every day with full waiting rooms, emergency phone calls, etc and I think they handle it with grace and a pleasant demeanor. I have always had my questions and concerns addressed to my satisfaction and phone calls have been returned in a timely manner, as well. This is an experienced and well-run eye practice that you can trust to care for your sight. read more

"The facility is clean and they are congenial and fast paced and over staffed. All the techs are very nice and fast. Unfortunately no one keeps track of how many times eye dilation drops are given while at various stations given by various people. There were seven times the eyes were dilated. The blood pressure is taken manually and when it is over pumped it will always be a false high reading because of the stress it causes on the patient of the arm being over squeezed to death . The OCT machine was not functioning correctly as the star was not green but white and the red background was not solid but looked like a kid used a thin marker to fill in the area. If the radioactive machine is defunct , then maybe it should be checked by the government or they should buy a new one so people don't get overexposed through their eyes and brain. The phone management causes stress to the employees and they stress each other out when it isn't a real problem and take it out on the patient by chastising them for a condition that has many causes without clinically knowing the cause of it. The fourth person on the phone shamed me after letting me know there were no urgent appointments for further diagnostics until six days later. Not even the doctor did that because he needed further diagnostics before treatment. To lose vision rapidly is an urgent matter. Maybe techs could use the physical equipment, while the doctor who is limited on time can assess the findings and make appropriate decisions, like they do in radiology departments. This place is ridiculous!! The wait times here are worse than any place besides the Ben Taub emergency room!! An appointment takes 3hours minimum!! And most of the time is spent waiting!!! It's a puppy mill and the patients that come here have insurance and are treated to terrible wait times! Each time my mother comes here it's a minimum 2-3hour visit. read more

Last month Dr. Koop removed my cataracts on my eyes. I selected lenses based on the information he provided. My surgeries were two weeks apart. The Memorial Hermann nurses gave me warm blankets and answered all my questions. Dr. Koop relieved my anxieties and did such a great job. I had no complications and was provided detailed instructions on the anti-biotic eye drops. I now do not wear glasses now and use drug store glasses for reading. My night vision has improved tremendously and overall clarity has improved 100%. I would recommend not to delay on this surgery. read more

Horrible service. I have been a patient of Texas eye institute for 12 years. I visit the sugar land office and have never had a problem. I had an emergency appointment made today at this location, because my doctor was here today. At first I waited 45 min for my insurance to be approved. I was then moved to the back waiting room where I waited another hour. I was pulled back just to check eye pressure and ask my symptoms. I am still waiting to see the doctor... I had a 2:15 appointment and have now been waiting in pain for 2+ hours. This is unacceptable service. Multiple people in the waiting room have said that this is routine, one lady even said she has come here 3 times and has never been seen before an hour and a half. Will never come back. read more

Two new patients for the Sugar Land office. My experience is similar to other reviews: extremely long wait times. Multiple waits with a total arrival to departure in the 2 1/2 hour range. When I finally saw the doctor, he was thorough and I felt very good. However, when I went to the small eye glass store in the office, they quoted a $1000 price. I ended up going to Costco and spending $250. The reason given was that they use a top notch lab. While I didn't get the same quality frames at Costco, the price differential is compelling. I've never paid more than about $600 in Austin at TSO for new frames and lens. read more

I went to see these doctors about cataract surgery. The result was they are using a code that is NOT a cataract billing code but is one that includes other non-covered procedures. This borders on insurance fraud because people are getting charged a huge chunk of money for something that is unnecessary for repairing a cataract. Insurance amount allowed means they would likely only get 800 to 1200 per eye but since they are cushioning their code they are making about 2500 per eye cash. I want to post this to warn people to ask their insurance and be aware this is not a legitimate practice in the cataract repair codes. Be careful going to this eye company!!! read more

I have been a a patient of Dr. W. Decker since 2013. Upon each visit I receive an eye injection of Eylea (Regeneron) due to Wet Macular Degeneration. My vision in that eye has been saved. Yes, it's true that the wait time may be occasionally long but, The Doctor never speeds through my visit and Always answers any questions that I may have. Bottom line, Dr. Decker takes the time to talk to his patients and that is where the time factor goes a bit long. It's better than being made to feel like cattle, being pushed through with no communication with the Dr. read more

I gave them a one star rating because the staff is very nice and polite as well as the doctors. However the wait is unbelievably long. I don't know how you can run a business like this. My wife had cataract surgery last week and I went with her for her first follow-up visit. We had to wait an hour past our scheduled appointment time to see the doctor. Today, the day before Thanksgiving, we have been here for two hours and 15 minutes and still have not seen the doctor. This is not acceptable and utterly ridiculous. Because of this, two custom pies we ordered from a bakery in Sugar Land, which we already paid for, and will now be unable to pick up as the bakery will already be closed by the time we can get there. We will now have to go to the grocery store and pick up commercially made pies for our family gathering. We will be able to get our pies, two days old, on Friday.... We are done with this place! Update: The Doctor finally saw my wife. Total wait time until she saw the doctor was two hours 23 minutes! read more

If I could I would give negative stars. I have worn glasses for 46 years so I have been to the eye doctor plenty. Appointment at 3, was seen at 4:50. The whole time waiting EVERYONE was asking about the wait with no answers. The exam was quick to say the least. They charge cash for the refraction test???? It's part of an eye exam you fucks. I have NEVER been charged a separate fee for this exam. I even have insurance. Utterly disgusted. read more

The doctor that saw me performed the examed in a very professional way, but the staff was not good at all. The employee that checked me out was very rude and demanded payment even though I explained to her that my insurance covered me. I ended up making a payment that now needs to be refunded. In my opinion, the staff and billing department needs to have better training. You cannot have a rude inexperienced person handling customers. read more

Went to visit Dr. McKee for a chaliazion cyst on my right eye. This procedure should be a quick 30 minute in and out and done...not here. More than 2 1/2 hours of moving from room to room, two different waiting rooms, only to end up with the same problem! That's right...I still have the nasty red bump on my eye! Being a cash pay patient, I shelled out about $250 for nothing.. I will not return to this doctor. I'll go somewhere else. read more

Been coming to this place for over 20yrs never had a problem with stuff working here but today this ppl look lost been sitting here for 10mnts for my 230pm appt. The 215pm app came in late and they where call in before me..a short black girl talking about they had an app before me that why they where call in before me..i work in the medical field late appts are either cancel or reschedule or put on the back of the list..and ppl coming in shes not helping them at all shes just making them upset smh i will change doctors ASAP..... read more

Been coming to this location with my mom since I was a child. Always easy to book last minute appointments, even if its not with your usual doc. Large practice, very busy but good service. Only complaint is that appt. can run a little on the longer side due to high volume. Dr. Koop is great! read more

I thought I'd written a review a LONG time ago......it shows on my Facebook page but not on the Texas Eye Inst. To repeat myself, I've been seeing Dr. Wm. Decker for three+ years and receiving monthly injections for macular degeneration in one eye. My experiences at the clinic on Beechnut have been top notch. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Dr. Decker is THE BEST retina specialist!!!! So soft-spoken and reassuring. He also took care of a detached retina in my eye last fall. Got to me immediately for surgery, which was very successful. You could not PAY me to go to any other physician for retina issues. And kudos to all the employees for their courtesies and kindness. read more
