It's also time to start planting my Spring and Summer gardens so it was a good time to visit this place that I have heard about for years but never been to. Fort Worth is off my beaten path, but it sounded like it was going to be worth the trip, and it was. There is an ambiance about the place that puts you right at home. It's an old school vibe that takes you back to 1934 when Archie Sr. founded the place. They have a nursery and also a landscape division, so if you are not a do-it-yourself person, they can take care of things for you. When you park and enter in, the first thing that hits you sit he size of the place, it's huge! They have an amazing selection and it is accompanied by fantastic customer service. And these are just nice friendly folks, they are extremely knowledgeable and can pretty much help you with any horticultural or landscaping need.

At no time did the nursery staff say that the plants may have been treated with pesticides. I thought nurseries had stopped using pesticides on milkweed because it is the only host plant for critically endangered Monarch's butterfly. Lesson learned. Sadly, the plants from Calloway's are treated with pesticides. They are not butterfly safe. I lost 30 Monarch caterpillars in one day. They do have a good return policy. I was able to return all of the poisoned plants.

He's brought in some newer plants that the old owner didn't carry. He's also growing some of his own in the inside green house. There was a great selection when we went. He is still getting things nailed down, tho the place isn't as clean as it used to be. Also some plants have some compacted soils, I never saw this before. The plants were healthy tho. We still visit every few weeks or so, especially since he's getting some new out of the norm plants. Prices are good, not overpriced, they carry a good balance between cost and demand.
