Dr. Martinez and his assistant were very pleasant and we found him to be very knowledgeable about trigger point therapy. He did not go into any depth of discussion about my RA and like the rest of the medical docs in Austin, their office can't help you with anything past treating a headache with Tylenol. Their check in desk clerks need some serious training sessions on customer service. Poor attitudes with no one smiling when you walk up to them. It was like they all hated their jobs. Even as I write this I am on hold to get medical records so that I can go back to the doctor that referred me. Holding for a total of 45 min so far. I have had shorter waits to be seen by my doctor. These guys are nice, but the staff needs some kind of training to be able to provide patient care. Now I am hearing the same commercial for their own clinic over and over. Hey, I'm already a patient so why am I listening to a commercial? Please pick up the phone and give me my records. I have an appointment that I need the records for. People at check out have no idea what they are doing. And if you aren't going to get your surgery done with them they dont care about you at all, once i told my doctor i was doing somewhere else for surgery his mood flipped, went from happy helpful doctor to someone who wanted me to leave as fast as possible, very rude. I also had the worst experience trying to get a copy of my MRI. No one seems to understand how to get me a copy, I had to submit the same forum 2 times because they just didn't submit my first request, then I was told they dont even have it, they had given it to a 3rd party company that I would have to pay for my results. Went to Dr. Stockton to help treat my fasciitis. He is not the most personable but I saw he got good reviews and continued to see him a few more times. After tearing my fascia and being in a boot for a few weeks and waiting for things to heal up I went to my follow up appointment to make sure things were going in the right direction. Shouldn't be a long appointment, right? Well after taking half a day off work to attend my appointment mid morning I ended up having to leave the office unseen because I had waited for 45 minutes and needed to get to work. No one came in and said he was running late or said anything when I checked in. The waiting room was packed when I left. I guess I'll just hope my foot continues to heal, if not I'll look someplace else. I called the office and told them to refund me my payment I had already prepaid and how I thought it was very unprofessional of them to not tell the patients how far behind he was running. I was told that sometimes you will wait over an hour to get in. Well then, I think you have too many patients if you can't care for the ones you already have. I guess that's the money mill the other person was talking about. I would have even seen a PA or NP if they had one. I work in the health care field and understand how things can get backed up but acting like your time is more valuable than mine isn't cool. Believe it or not, the world doesn't revolve around you and some people can't just stop their day to wait and wait and wait. read more

Texas Orthopedics is my go to place for any injuries/surgeries. I had a hip replacement done with Dr. Z. Logan, he was/is awesome in answering all my questions pre/post operation. Talked with my wife about what to expect post surgery...since I was a little drugged, also came to talk to me while I was in the hospital the next day. In fact, the entire staff there from making an appt. to checking in is AWESOME! They are on it and will try their best to do what is best for you! I also saw Dr. J Smith, and he also is a very nice doc willing to answer all your questions, again even talked with my wife to insure his instructions would be followed. Their physical therapy is also very good and accommodating, the therapist which is working on me does a great job and answers all my questions. This place has very good communication, which is very important to me with any business I visit or work with. Common sense is also used here, which is another trait you don't see so common anymore! Now as great as the Doctors/Staff are, they could improve on the waiting time. It does take some time before you see your doctor, but then again, it's because they are good at communication and answering all their patients questions. So I'm not really sure how much they can improve your wait time. I'm sure you would rather wait a little longer knowing when you get called in, all attention will be given to you and answering all your questions is their goal. This is not the type of medical office where they try to get in as much as possible and send you on your way just as fast as they get you in. Most good things in life will take time, and Texas Orthopedics is a good place, so keep that in mind while you wait. Plan YOUR day around your important appointment, after all it is for YOU. So do plan on getting in and then having to get to somewhere else ASAP...that will only add stress to your day and especially to yourself. Your health should come first and you should plan your appt. with that in mind. Oh, and I'm walking without a walker and a cane and it's been 19 days since my hip surgery...fyi, I'm in my 60's too! read more

Dr. McDonald is a friendly and caring physician. He takes the time to listen to the patient and explains the condition in a way that patient understand. It is to note that the staff is not at par with this caring doctor. Staff is rude and does not show empathy for the patient. Texas Orthopedics has good doctors and poor staff. I was recommended to the Texas Orthopedics center after failing to get results on my chronic inflamed legs from several other doctors and an airrosti. Unfortunately, this experience was no better. After waiting 40 min the doctor spent probably 10 min in the room, didn't really listen and suggested two extreme solutions without explaining much on either. She also pretty much brushed off my questions ( she was clearly in a hurry ) and then I left with a $300 bill. read more

I was lucky enough to find Dr Ai Mukai for my back pain. I threw my back out cleaning and couldnt move without my back spasming so much it drove me to tears. After 1 visit with her I was cured. I didnt have to wait for an appointment. She spent a lot of time with me. She was very thorough and answered all of my questions even writing some of it down for me so i could refer to it later. I was given a direct numer to call a week later to give my status so i dont have to waste my/her time if i didnt need to come in. I refer my friends and family to her every time and feel confident that they are well taken care of. read more

Both my 5 year old son and I have had to use TX Orthopedics on separate occasions for broken arms. My son received care from Dr. Hardy and recovered great after only a couple weeks in a hard cast. They also made my sons summer much better, despite the broken arm, when we called spontaneously to come in and get a water proof cast changed out for a vacay. I received care more recently from Dr. Kilbride who ended up having to operate on my broken arm. I was extremely nervous about having surgery but he did a phenomenal job and the surgery/recovery itself has not been half as bad as I was expecting. 44 minutes I was on hold & transfer all while listening to their ad over and over. A few days after surgery ( shoulder replacement) I was feeling sick. Upon receiving some person. I asked to speak to the nurse and the guys at the gate said to call 911 and go to the emergency room. I also heard that I should have home health care with a joint replacement. I didn't get that After check out I had to go back as the lady didn't schedule me for rehab and I had to remind her. The rehab part was nice. Even though I was very happy with Dr. Loeb, I found their offices unreliable. The office seemed to want get them in, get them out as fast as you can. read more

Howdy, I called Texas Orthopedics on one day and was set up with an appointment the very next day. I was assigned Dr Robert Blais as my doctor for a knee issue. I had been having knee pain, swelling and my knee locking in place not fun. He was very friendly with great bedside manners. He gave me details of my knee problem and showed me on my X-ray what was taking place and causing my pain. He went into details of how to fix my problem and I told him that I needed to be fix this as soon as possible because of my employment status that I could be called to leave town on a very short notice. He was very willing to accommodate my request and my surgery took place per my request. he gave me details as to what to expect during and after my surgery, he also called the next day himself to check in on my status after one of his children's soccer games ...when have you had that to take place before....I would return to visit him with any orthopedic issues in the future anytime. She always discusses everything with me in complete detail, and gives me all of the best options, and never pressures me to make any decisions. She always does the best she can to advise me on the financial options as well, and always the ones that are in my best interest, not hers. I was referred to Dr. McDonald by my chiropractor after my MRI results came back showing a tear in my labrum. It was easy to set up an appointment and my appointment went smoothly. Dr. McDonald explained my injury to me and took x-rays to get a better look at my hip. He explained the procedure to fix the tear and the procedure and I was able to schedule an appointment for my surgery with ease. But my actual visits with Dr. Mukai have been super brief and didn't feel thorough. The office staff is consistently unorganized. I always experienced a long wait for the doctor when going here. I found it strange and felt like I was part of a cattle herd when being called back to see the doctor because the nurse would call 2 or 3 names at the same time to bring us back into treatment rooms. Once in the room, there was usually 20 minute or longer wait for my doctor (I saw a doctor that treats hands, wrist and elbows) I tried all other therapies prior to having surgery, but ultimately my condition required a surgical correction, which has been remarkably successful. I am able to perform my job duties, and can actually feel my entire hand for the first time in a long time. When I got my stitches removed all seemed fine, and a week later, at another follow up, the doctor found a 1cm piece of suture that was not removed by the technician. That could have been a problem, as this was not the absorable kind of suture. Had the doctor checked my incision after the sutures were removed, he may have noticed what the technician missed. But in the end, it was noticed before it became a problem. I had no problems scheduling surgery, and yes they ask for the money up front, but that is standard practice in healthcare, and didn't bother me. My insurance pays what they pay, and the rest is my responsibility. For me, a higher score would come from slightly more personal care (call me back individually and bring me to a room, then get the next person) better attention to detail from the technicians, and less wait time to see the doctor. To the doctors, your time is money, and so is mine. read more

I'm a patient of Dr. Onan, saw him up at the North Austin location off 183. Dr. O is exceptional and repaired my back and his given me my life back - I would highly recommend him and Texas Orthopedics. I had completely blown out my L5 S1 bottom disc (that is also a degenerative disc) and was in constant pain. I could barely get up out of a chair and had nerve pain radiating down my left leg to the heel. I had a microdiscectomy procedure and was significantly better after 3 days - I had pain come back a little over the next few weeks and we did another MRI but my back looked good. Dr. Onan was very supportive and really listened to me and provided feedback. He predicted the pain would subside and to give it time, and with every passing week my leg/nerve pain went away. The original blow out was significant enough that the nerve needed some extra time. Today (5 months later) I am back to light work outs in the gym and have no pain. Texas Orthopedics did a great job with my appointments and managing my insurance claims and Dr. Onan is highly skilled and has a great bedside manner, very supportive and transparent. A little back story here...this is my third surgical procedure this year with 2 back surgeries from Dr Onan and the just completed right ankle surgery by Dr. Shoen. I've had the pleasure to meet Dr John McDonald and his amazing PA Kate. I struggled with bilateral hip pain for over about 1.5 years, at times it was agonizing and no one could ever figure out what it was so I was referred to Dr McDonald. Once I got to Texas Orthopedics, I was sent to get MRIs and X-rays. I was diagnosed with FAI and Labral Tears on both hips. About 3-4 weeks, I had hip arthroscopy and Dr. McDonald handled the whole thing so smoothly. Everything (procedures, medication, therapy and recovery) was explained thoroughly by Kate. I did physical therapy with Jared Hutchins and Meredith, both were so sweet. I can't speak well enough about Texas Orthopedics. I felt completely safe and trusted Dr. McDonald and his team. Today I had an appointment with Dr. Koval at Texas Ortho. I left that appointment crying. It's hard to explain how worthless they made me feel. I visited Dr. Koval, maybe a year ago and had not seen him since. I had to cancel some appointments for various reasons, like I had back surgery, etc. and I feel that that was held against me. I've used Texas Orthopedics for many years. Dr Garcia did my knee surgery; Dr Smith did my back surgery. I love them. I always felt that they had my best interest at heart. Dr. Mukai has treated me for back issues and even though our sessions were very brief, I felt cared for. Dr. Koval gave me an injection in my shoulder today, but showed no interest in trying to determine why I was feeling so badly. He said go to pain management. I have nothing but good things to say about Texas Orthopedics. My doctor, Ai Mukai, is awesome! She takes the time to tell me all of my options and reviews not only the physical aspects of the treatment options, but the financial ones as well. I've never had any wait time problems, I am always able to easily schedule MRIs, and I am only given medications or injections when my doctor and I agree that it is the best course of treatment. Dr. Mukai recommended that I consult a neurosurgeon to make an informed decision about surgery (which after doing so, I declined). My husband and I are both patients of Dr. Mukai and we have recommended her to friends as well. I've also seen Dr. Bunch when my doctor was unavailable and he was very good as well. I had one billing issue since I have been going to TX Orthopedics (over 3 years), and the billing department was very helpful in resolving the problem. I am really surprised at the negative reviews I have read here and hope it doesn't discourage anyone from seeking treatment here if they need help. I have found that across the board, The doctors and staff are very caring, they take their time explaining and asking questions and I have never felt rushed. Follow up has been great too.
