The office experience is rough because the waiting area is always full and because I typically need to go to multiple rooms for drops, photos, tests prior to seeing Dr Abby, it's a 2+ hour visit. But Dr Abby and his staff are fantastic. He's easy to trust, very clear and straightforward on diagnosis and treatment and is able to resolve issues quickly. I usually don't write reviews, but I want to highlight the importance of showing compassion to patients with eye diseases for management's attention. I had an appointment with Dr. Wang, a referral from Dr. Seena Shyu. The office scheduled my appointment with Dr. Wang within a week due to my active Uveitis flare. I arrived 30 minutes early to ensure all my paperwork was completed and that the office had everything they needed. About, five minutes after my arrival, I witnessed the front receptionist screaming at a senior lady who had called to say she would arrive a little late. The patient apologized profusely and explained she had informed them early that she was caught in traffic. Despite this, the receptionist continued to scream, argue, and belittle her. I never seen such a lack of compassion for a patient, especially at an eye doctor's office. It frightened me,; I was aware of how often I experienced Uveitis flare ups I was uncertain if my visual impairment might one day delay me in traffic. I was also troubled by the fact that no one intervened to stop the receptionist's outburst. I couldn't tell if management or the other doctors were aware of this appalling behavior. Regrettably, I decided to cancel my appointment. I explained to the receptionist that sometimes unforeseen circumstances occur, and since I lived far way, I did not want to experience what I had just witnessed her do to another patient . I want to belong to a doctor's office that treats patients with compassion, as if they are family. read more

I was referred here by Key-Whitman and I was very pleased with all aspects of the care I received. I did not have to wait an inordinate amount of time to see a doctor. They did several of the same tests as at Key-Whitman which made me wonder but I guess they have to do their own diligence. Dr. Choy was great and very caring. He explained what was going on and what needed to be done. As it turned out, I needed immediate surgery but that is a different review. After the surgery, Dr. Choy conducted a one week and three week post-op check up and again he was patience and clear in his explanations. I felt as if I was in good hands at all times. I would definitely recommend Texas Retina Center for eye care. read more

We visited Texas Retina Assoc at 9600 N Central Pkwy and had an awful experience. My son was the patient and has ommetaphobia, fear of touching his eyes. You would think at an eye doctor, they would have a little more compassion. The tech for Dr. Abbey was rude and after my son told her about his phobia, she repeatedly tried to touch his eye area to add more numbing drops, which he did not need. He kept communicating with her, telling her what he needed and she kept doing what she wanted, all while seeming to be annoyed. He pulled away and she rolled her eyes. One of her comments was, "Well my hands are clean if it makes you feel better." No, actually it doesn't. Dr. Abbey came in and again kept trying to touch my son's eyes and even had the gall to say, "I'm not touching your eye. I'm touching your eyelid." Nothing was explained to him. If you have a patient with a clear phobia who is pulling away when you try to touch him, why aren't you proceeding with care and describing what you're about to do? They acted like my son was a bother to them. I cannot stress enough that this was a hard visit for someone that has a real fear. We were quickly shooed out. It's not hard to be kind and empathetic. You deal with people everyday. Learn how to treat them! We will not be visiting Texas Retina Associates. My son was disrespected and made sure to treat them with the utmost respect. Doctors seem good, but a visit takes forever. Once you get your eyes dilated, you may think you are getting close to seeing the doctor, but it will probably be another hour and a half, at least. Cone prepared to wait. Given that most patients here have to have tests done in addition to the dilation, they should warn you upfront that a typical appt is 2+ hours. read more

I had a retinal bleed that took the vision in my left eye. first Dr I went to gave me an injection and told me I had to have an injection every 7 weeks for the rest of my life. the injection did improve my sight but was not as helpful as I had hoped. a friend referred me to Dr. Castillo. from the time I scheduled the appointment to the time I left, staff was wonderful. Dr Castillo was able to do laser surgery two days later and said it would completely heal my eye and I wouldn't need injections at all. So thankful for this Dr and his staff. read more

While the physicians are good, the wait time is extraordinarily ridiculous. You cannot expect patients to wait 3 hours for an appointment without notifying them in advance of wait times. What that shows you is that the doctor feels that their time is far more important than the patients time. There are other doctors out there, find another one. In addition, the staff is just plain rude. Know when it's worth that kind of wait. read more

Saw Dr. Castillo in Waco almost 4 years ago after a detached retina. The staff was great in getting me in without an appointment and Dr. Castillo was great...he and the staff stayed after their appointments were done for the day and they reattached my right retina and repaired a tear in my left retina. The new facility is wonderful. My last follow up was quick and easy. read more

Dr. Abby is my doctor. The team here is amazing. Everyone odds so friendly. Second time here after having floaters. I highly recommend this facility. Very professional and all the latest equipment. The wait is short and things happen quickly. No repeated visit to have one thing done. They also answer the phone if you have questions when you leave. WOW what an idea. read more

Doctors and office staff do not respect you or your time! Went in for a follow-up. Office had sent 2 notices asking me to reschedule. Arrived on-time for a 2 pm appt. I asked the receptionist if the Doctor was running on-time. She replied yes. They called me back to dilate my eyes at 2:25 and the guy could not get my name right. I get the drops in, told to wait in another BRIGHT waiting area FULL of patients. Get the eye photos done fairly quickly, then I wait and wait. After waiting an hour I left and told the scheduling assistant, when the doctor begins to respect patients time to call me to reschedule. Typical uncaring medical office. They don't track how the doctors are running to keep patients informed. Patients are like cattle, hold them in the pen until we are ready for them. No CUSTOMER SERVICE. Do not go the this specialist! They will say they will take your insurance and then 3 1/2 years later decide that it was denied and send you a bill! This is what happened to me. Aren't they required to do their job and verify insurance before you arrive for the appointment and then when you arrive they verify again so they can receive the co-pay???? And you think all is ok, you have paid the co-pay you see the Dr. check out and they still do not say anything about not being covered, so how can they decide nearly 4 years later that the insurance denied the claim. I was not contacted by mail, phone,email facebook or by any other way. So now the patient is the bad person for saying they did not do their job and now I have a bill and they will ruin my credibility for their lack due diligence! Doctors are great. The billing is the worst I have ever experienced any where. Can't talk to anyone on phone or by email and when you ask they are too busy. Every time we come we get charged differently and it is suppose to be the same since the same thing is done each time. They have more money than they should because of billing not matching the visit and still say we owe them more money. Recently saw Dr. Tim Fuller @ Texas Retina. The entire experience was 5-star. EVERYONE from the schedulers, the check in staff, the check out staff and all clinicians in between were so kind, patient and through! The entire new patient process is long (expect 3 hours) but it was time well spent. They explained everything in detail, gave me 1 on 1 attention, answered all questions and even anticipated my fears and concerns.. put me totally at ease (and I was pretty stressed). And then had a report back to my referring doctor before I even got home from my appointment! Yes the appointment took 3 hours - BUT they told me when I scheduled to expect a long appointment.. I only have 1 set of eyes and as I said-- it was time well spent. I will recommend Texas Retina to everyone! **note: I have been to other Retina Doctors in Dallas and Plano and felt like I was just a set of eyes on a chart # -- not the case at Texas Retina.. they took the time to know me--the person. read more
