This is the first time I have been to this Texas Roadhouse. I have been to many others and have loved it. The food is always so yummy and service is great. With that being said, last night we went for a girls night and it was not a great experience. It started out strong but slowly went down hill. Our waitress honestly did the best she could. Our food came out in 2 different rounds, 20 minutes apart. She did apologize for that. But again, she did not being us the food, it was runners. Around 6 pm, all of sudden the music was cranked up like we were in a bar. The waitresses could not hear their customers and we couldn't talk. Our waitress apologized saying that one particular manager always does that. I asked to speak to the manager and she was pretty rude to say the least. She told me that it was "company policy to turn the music up 96% at a certain time. We are a sports bar that's how it should be." I just kinda looked at her and explained that I had never been to one that was like that and asked if she could possibly please turn the volume down a little so we don't have to scream at each other. She rolled her eyes and said "I'll see what I can do." The volume did get turned down. Will I go back.... It won't be my first choice. read more

My husband came in with a guys' group when the place first opened and just RAVED about it. I finally got to come in tonight and holy crap. Never again. The place was PACKED when we walked in and we actually got seated fairly quickly. Fine... Waitress came and hurriedly grabbed our drink and app order(s). We'd barely had time to even look at the menu. Waited FOREVER on a beer and marg (which showed up with melted ice and watery)... and our app never came, but our salads did. Waited forever again only to find out that they were out of our app... only because the manager was summoned by another waitress that must've seen our displeasure. So we order a couple more drinks and then our steaks came...Mine was BORDERLINE cooked properly, and my husband's was overdone but we weren't about to wait on another one. I'm not even sorry I didn't tip. I've literally NEVER done that, but after seeing the manager and our waitress chewing each others' asses as we paid... I'll buy and prepare my own steaks. read more

Please know this review is preference based. Let me start with giving credit where credit is due. The good part of our 3 and 1/2 hour meal was The steaks for our party of six were prepared to perfection, well seasoned with perfect temperature on all 6. No easy feat considering the place was packed and the ticket time was over one hour. The service by Hailey M was so impressive she was the only reason we made it through our marathon 3 1/2 hour meal. That girl needs special acknowledgment from management! That you g lady is outstanding! I'm a person who appreciates a clean dining experience. Hats off to management for the team of people cleaning not only doors, floors and tables but also taking the extra step in wiping down the menus. Now just my preference and something to consider when going- No reservations and the wait list is useless. We were checked in on the wait list at 5:30. Was told we had an hour wait, having drove an hour to get there we decided to stay. We wormed our way to the bar and the six of us shared three barstools and grabbed drinks. At 6:30 we were told they had us scheduled (after we inquired again) to be seated at 7:20. So now what do you do? We just make the best of the situation and ordered appetizers. We were finally seated at 7:30 and immediately ordered. One hour later we received our food. So I personally did not enjoy being at any restaurant from 5:30 to 9:00. And during the wait time for our food we had to watch the staff turn up the music to almost club level and start dancing (not fun when you have been there for hours and all you want to do is eat your food and leave) It's loud enough without the waitstaff screaming over the people and music to sing happy birthday and line dancing. My husband and I went for supper on a Friday evening around 4:30pm. We had perfect service and the meal was amazing. He had steak which was cooked exactly as he ordered at a perfect medium rare. Was passing through town and decided to stop by one of our favorite restaurants. We were lucky enough to have the absolute best server, Caleb. He was kind and enthusiastic and completely upgraded the dining experience. From suggesting to add sautéed mushrooms and onions to our go-to order, the herb crusted chicken, to consistently checking in, and bringing us hot fresh rolls, he was the best. My wife and I used the app to join the waitlist on a Friday evening. It was approximately a 50 minute wait, which was pretty accurate. Once we were seated, we were promptly served warm rolls with their delicious cinnamon butter. They refilled these rolls for us later. We ordered a couple cocktails, and my wife decided on the smothered chicken. She absolutely LOVED the portabella mushrooms, and the chicken was extremely tender. I ordered the 12 oz NY Strip with a Caesar Salad and mashed potatoes with brown gravy. The salad was very fresh, and the steak was cooked to medium rare perfection! The steak was very tender and seasoned wonderfully!Seriously one of the best steaks I have ever had! Beats the heck out of the locally owned steakhouse! Our waitress was very friendly and efficient. Service was wonderful! The only thing I'm not personally a fan of is the line dancing routing the wait staff are occasionally forced to perform tableside. I thought the whole thing was rather uncomfortable, just let the poor wait staff serve the customers! But all in all, the dinner was wonderful, and we will 100% be back! read more

Well... finally! Mattoon / Charleston / Effingham area has a great steak house - we will be able to visit when we return to our Lake House every year! Having visited our Texas Roadhouse in Dallas, many times - the food and service are always superb! But... that comes with the understanding that those qualities make them very popular - almost always a crowd any time of the day! So, you always have to carefully pick your time with the least crowd waiting. But, if you have the patience - it will be rewarded! Surprised that Effingham, didn't beat Mattoon to the draw on this one - it would have been great there, but since the food and service are so great at all their locations - it will have all the business it can manage in Mattoon! read more

Went here with my pregnant wife for Easter dinner for the two of us. I will preface this review by stating that yes, I am well aware that Texas Roadhouse has only been open in Mattoon for a few weeks. However, I feel confident in my belief that the Kafkaesque nightmare my friend and I just experienced cannot be chalked up to "We're still figuring things out." Today's lunch was our second attempt at eating at TRH. The first attempt, two weeks ago, ended when one of the seven high schoolers at the hostess desk told my friend and I that we needed to move out of other customers' way... three times. It was 5:30pm on a Friday, so it was crowded, but there was almost nowhere to stand and wait. Young Snotty first told us "You need to move out of the way of customers we're trying to seat." How exactly we were in their way is beyond me, considering we were standing up against a wall, but we moved. Then Second Young Snotty walked up to us and asked if we were on The List. We said we were. He played with his iPad and then announced, "You're not on my list, so you need to move." We were hungry, else we probably would have told him to move, so we moved a second time. Female Young Snotty then tells us, "You need to go wait in The Holding Pen." The Holding Pen. I don't care what kind of cutesy Texas atmosphere you're going for, calling the waiting area The Holding Pen says exactly what you think of your customers, and what it says is not particularly nice. So we left. We'll come back when they've gotten their system figured out, we though. We'll give them a second chance, we thought. Here's how that went. We arrived at 11:03 am, three minutes after opening. Different Female Young Snotty kept barking at everyone who was waiting to be seated to "Move down! You need to move down! Move down!" If she had said "please," I wouldn't have cared, but instead she kept rolling her eyes at everyone and audibly sighing. "I hate my job and I hate all of you," her body language screamed, despite the work shirt that said, "I love my job!" Then two women, who came in after me and my friend, were seated before us, and when we wondered aloud why since there was no waitlist when we arrived, Different Female Young Snotty huffed and said, "Well there's no waitlist but there is a list and they were on it." O-kay. 11:10: We were seated and our waitress was a very pleasant young woman with a sunny attitude. She took our drink order, left, and then returned promptly to take our meal order. We both remarked that the service itself was excellent, and watching the rest of the wait staff suggested that all of them were trying their best to be friendly and efficient. 11:20: My friend's salad arrived. It seemed to have taken a long time for a garden salad, but it was a decently sized salad and tasty enough. Our waitress refilled both of our drinks quickly during the wait. 11:45: Our meals finally arrived. My filet medallions with peppercorn sauce were cooked exactly as I requested and very enjoyable. The mashed potatoes were creamy and enjoyable, and the green beans were also quite good. All of the sides were decently sized, given the price of the meals. My friend's steak kebabs, on the other hand, came out somehow overcooked and yet cold. Not warm, not lukewarm, but actually cold. The meat was tender and probably would have been good, but it was actually cold. It also, given the description on the menu, appeared to be missing the tomato and onion toppings. At 11:48, we flagged down our waitress and she said she would have it remade immediately and have a manager come talk to us. 12:05 pm: My friend's remade meal had not yet come. I had already finished my meal. Our waitress stopped by and apologized, saying that she had been checking with the kitchen and it was almost done. She said that there had already been fifteen meals sent back to be remade. This, one hour after opening for the day. She also asked if a manager had stopped by. We said no, and she said she'd find someone for us. 12:15: The waitress, who had been running back and forth, visibly frustrated, stopped by again and apologized. She said there was a fire in the kitchen but that a manager would definitely be stopping by in a moment. We asked her to simply take the kebabs off our bill so we could pay and leave. She said she couldn't do that, she didn't have the authority, but that she would find a manager immediately. 12:25: Still no manager. We decided to just leave cash, subtracting my friend's meal from the cost. When we pulled up the bill on the computer, it said her meal had been removed from the bill. Thanks for telling us. We paid and were standing up to leave when our waitress came over and said, "I am so sorry for all this. The manager is taking that off right now. She also is preparing a gift voucher for a complete meal for two so you can come back on us and give us a second chance. Today has just been crazy, and I am so sorry for all this. Please just give us one minute and she'll be over with that voucher." The voucher: "One entree $15 read more

I'm sitting in the parking lot at Texas Roadhouse in Mattoon Illinois. I ordered to go pick up at 5:45, my bag was delivered promptly and I headed home, which is a 30 minute drive. Half way home Roadhouse called and said they had given me the wrong order and I needed to come back. It's now an hour later and I just received my order. Not fresh made the same food they had ready an hour ago. I asked if it was hot and they said no but they would give me some fresh rolls but it would be 10 minutes before they were ready. No offer of compensation or apology from the manager. I would pass on at least carry out as it's a shame we will be eating cold food and our $50 could have been spent elsewhere. read more

We ordered 1/2 slab of ribs with potatoes/corn, One Ranger steak meal w/mashed potatoes, Onion Blossom, Twisted Mozzarella & cheese fries as a meal. The ribs were delicious along with the sides & the Ranger steak was cooked as ordered. My cheese fries left a lot to be desired. I did not like the type cheese or the ranch dip so I mentioned I would have preferred sour cream, so our waitress very happily brought some. I ate very little of the fries but planned to send them home with my Granddaughter to heat up later so I didn't ask they be reheated. While the atmosphere was pleasant and our waitress was very pleasant, I was then surprised to find an Economic development fee added to my receipt. There was no mention of the fee on the menu nor was it mentioned before we ordered. When I asked our waitress what the fee was, she had no idea but said she would ask her manager. I had sent $40 with my bill and told her I'd like that removed. She came back with my change but the Econ Dev fee was not removed. I had to ask her if it had been removed. She said her manager told her it could not be removed. The FTC requires Establishments clearly disclose any added fees on the menu & or tell the customer about it BEFORE ordering! Since our waitress didn't even KNOW what the fee was she couldn't have told us about it! I do plan to file a complaint with The Office of Attorney General for not disclosing the Econ Dev Fee on the menu. Businesses are getting out of hand with all these fees being passed onto their customers! We're already paying ridiculously higher amounts to eat out! read more

Wife and I come to the New Mattoon Illinois Texas Road House for our first time at this location so I'm looking forward to a salmon dinner due to I'm a kidney patient and have to stay away red meat or small limited amounts and limited on curtain things on there menu we got there and it's busy and we got seated immediately so then we got our hot rolls the butter was melted we ordered drinks I have unsweet tea and she has a Coke Zero. We place our orders after our waitress Hannah brings drinks the waitress informs us there out of green beans, salmon, rice , croutons, pulled pork, and she named several other items they where completely out of some place our order I ordered prime rib , ceasar salad, and broccoli wife orders ribeye, house salad , sweet potatoe when we got our order my prime rib had no au- jus sauce for my prime rib so I asked about it and horseradish sauce and they said they was out of the au-jus so why didn't they tell me that before I ordered I asked for more rolls and butter we got after we had to wait for them to bake more. As I'm already eating the manager comes to our table with au-jus sauce and said I'm sorry but we had some the staff was to lazy to go get it and heat it up so about half way through our eating we never seen our waitress after we ordered our food and now we are out of drinks and cup are at the end of table to clearly see we are out of drinks as other waitresses are walking past our table singing and dancing over the loud music so we never got more drinks nor waitress never come down and checked on us and see how we was doing or if I was ready for dessert so I was pissed I payed my tab and the tablet at my table did ask anything about our restaurant experience so I gave them a small tip as I payed over 70 dollars for my meal and can't get service won't be back to mattoon location for a long time I will return to terra haute Indiana location where there always on top of there customers read more

The rolls were way too done and the cheese fries were not a full order and only came with a 1/2 of cup of ranch. Service was a bit slow, but the girl apologized for the wait when she brought it out. I do plan on dining in sometime. I hope it doesn't disappoint! The outside of the building looks great! read more
