I, unfortunately, cannot eat gluten among other things, but had my family try out a chocolate, vanilla, and lemon cupcake. Vanilla was their fave. This is a very great bakery for any occasion. We ordered my mom a birthday cake and were very impressed. It was her favorite part of her birthday and "the best birthday cake she's ever had." And this was the best strawberry cake I've ever had! We picked it up Saturday and kept it overnight in the fridge until Sunday evening and it was still moist and the frosting was still fluffy. Overall I was very impressed. The prices are very reasonable as well, I think it was $16 for two layers and 9 inches, plus the basic design and text. We still have half of it in the fridge hahaha! read more

O, thank goodness-I found Texas Star Bakery! This place is awesome. It reminds me of George's Wonderful World of Cakes in San Diego. I bumped into this place by accident. I needed a cake asap for Ryan's mom's birthday (does that sound right?) . It was obviously a special occasion. Joanne is a huge fan of buttercream frosting, she doesn't really care for the cake part. LOL. But I thought the rest of the family might enjoy some. I remembered seeing that bakery when going out to lunch, so I stopped by. They have several cakes ready to go, I picked up a small white cake, had it decorated with "Happy Birthday" and i was off. When I arrived at his parents' house, placed down the cake, I barely had a chance to hug her, when she eagle-eyed the cake box, opened it, and took a big finger full of frosting and forgot about the rest of the world. We barely made it through dinner, when it was cake time!!! We did the whole thing, and then I recieve my piece...... It was AWESOME!!!!!!! But mind you, I am a tooth sweet tooth junkie. This is perfect for kids, parties, and weddings! So here is the guilty part that I have to confess. I went back three times in less then a week. I bought another cake the following day, due to new family members in town, and we just had to recreate the birthday moment (wink, wink), then later in the week I bought cupcakes. OH!! they have these chocolate cupcakes with fudge frosting, amazing delicious and yummy! They are not over powering rich or anything, just yummy. Definitely recommend those cupcakes. Omg!! You need to try this place if you haven't before. I heard about this place from one of my coworkers as I was frantically searching last minute for a bakery to make my wedding cake and she insisted they had the best cakes and boy was she right. Most successful bakeries have delicious baked goods but there was literally a line out the door on a Tuesday afternoon and that's definitely a testament to how good their stuff is! Now, what really sets them apart from the rest is customer service. Not only were they able to take a last minute cake order, they offered 3 free tasting samples the size of large cupcakes. If you know anything about weddings, you know that's not the case. In addition, as he was ringing me up, I was having an internal battle on whether to have one of their double chocolate cupcakes. Obviously, temptation got the best of me and I requested that he add one of those cupcakes to my bill. He kindly packed it up and when I handed my card again, he politely declined saying I had already made a pretty large purchase today. Never had ordered a cake as my wife's friend always made them for my daughter's birthday. Fast forward to last week. Daughter's 9th birthday was Saturday. If I could give this place zero stars I would. After calling to confirm my order multiple times I arrived at the bakery only to find that the cookies were not iced. They did not apologize or offer a discount but said they could individually wrap some pre-made Christmas cookies. They looked extremely unprofessional and tasted horrible. I'm really disappointed with this place. I decided to order a cake from here based on the reviews I've read from yelp. I called and ordered weeks in advance. Realizing I never tasted their cakes I decided to go in and order some cupcakes just to see. I got a variety to share. While I was in the shop I decided to go over the cake order with them. After discussing my idea, they wanted me to email them a picture which I did. Their cupcakes were good and moist. Shared them with my friends and they seem to enjoy them. Well a few weeks later I came in to pick up the cake, an hour prior to them closing. Had to wait another 15 minutes since they were still working on it, which is fine. Got a 7 layer bar (too sweet) to snack on. Cake was ready and it looked decent. Almost like the picture I sent them and it looked big. Paid for the cake and left. Well that night when we finally had the birthday party and it was time to cut the cake, myself and a few of my friends notice how thick the frosting was and how little cake their was. It was seriously same thickness of cake to frosting. Since the party was on a Saturday I waited until Monday to call. I asked to speak with a manager but the person on the phone said they could help me. I explained what happen and they told me to send an email with the picture. So I did. 2 days laters still no word I called again. They told me to email them and on the subject to put cake and my name so they can know. I did that and still nothing. I feel like once they got the money, they don't care about anything else! The customer service after is horrible. No apology no nothing. It's like they don't care for repeat business! Let me start by saying I have never given a 1 star review before. And this review is really on the business rather than the cakes. The cakes actually taste good- but after witnessing what I did, I will never be back. First, I came to pick up the cake at 12:30, but was told the cake wouldn't be ready until 2:30. My friend even confirmed that the pick-up time was supposed to be 12:30. So I sat in the store for two hours until the cake was ready. While I was sitting there, a little girl came in and threw up on the floor. The girl's family took her to the bathroom immediately. The workers at Texas Star Bakery totally ignored the throw up, and kept getting cakes for customers. They did bring out a trash can to kind of block the vomit. As customers were coming in, they had to side step the vomit on the ground. I am absolutely disgusted that the employees didn't stop what they were doing to clean up the throw up. It stayed that way for a good 10 minutes until someone from the back (with a baking apron on) came to clean it up. When I left I noticed there were still pink splatters on the floor. About 10 minutes after I left the bakery, the cake that I bought fell apart. It was supposed to be a kettle bell, but the handle fell off the "bell" part. I then called the store to let them know that I'm coming back so they can repair the cake and the owner argued with me saying that it was probably my erratic driving that made the cake to fall (mind you I was sitting at a red light when it happened) Long story short, after spending the majority of my afternoon there, the cake was finally fixed. This place is not worth the time, money, or hassle. There are cleaner, friendlier bakeries in the metroplex. If you're looking for great service and top notch cakes, try Opulent Cakes, or Candy Haven. read more

The cupcakes here are gross. I've made better box mix cupcakes before. They were super dry and the frosting had no taste. It was the closest bakery to work so I ran in fast to pick up some items for an office birthday. Embarrassing bringing in these cupcakes that are dry as the desert and tasteless. I've never had any of their other baked goods, but I won't be coming back to try any. I read a lot of reviews saying the customer service was bad. I don't usually comment on staff because I worked retail and other customer facing roles for almost 7 years and hated every minute. But I still plastered a fake smile on my face everyday and pretended like I cared. Not so with these ppl. What a disappointment. I've gotten birthday cakes here for years. In the past I paid under $100 for a small 2 tier cake. I went in to order again this year and the price more than doubled! I also wanted to order plain vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with yellow frosting and the price went from $1.75 for white frosting with sprinkles to $2.50 a cupcake to change the color of the frosting with no sprinkles!! Their cake for the cupcakes were the softest without being too moist and the raspberry filling in the almond cupcakes were an awesome combination. We opted for. Larger one tier cake for our bride/groom cake and it was awesome. The icing was perfect and not too sweet! It was also almond and raspberry filled. I walked in and much to my shock there is no bread or buns to be found. They should rename it Texas Star Cakes. Gorgeous cakes. The kinds of cake that land on the cover of food magazines for their creative use of fondant to resemble adorable monkeys or daisies that look real. Even better, Texas Star Bakery carries all kinds of flavors of cake and make them in cupcake form for easy carry out. The lemon buttercream is good. The chocolate with chocolate buttercream was the perfect amount of chocolate. Not too much so your mouth is gasping for a dairy product but not too little where you're like "Stop teasing me". My favorite is the Almond cupcake with raspberry filling. Go by yourself some cupcakes people. This little gem deserves your business!
