I was referred to see Dr. McCoy by Sneakers primary vet, Pet Vet for a small mass in his mouth. The clinic was easy to find right off the freeway, but frankly a distance from Clear Lake. Upon arrival, his front desk staff were exceptional and kind to me as well as Sneakers. Dr. McCoy met us quickly and assessed Sneakers mouth. He noticed that the mass was pushing his front teeth. Sneakers was immediately diagnosed with periodontal disease from the looks of his mouth. Dr. McCoy explained the steps with details on how he'd surgically remove the small mass and then send it off for biopsy to verify if it's benign or malignant. He showed me graphics for better understanding. Dr. McCoy included that he would have to remove all of Sneakers teeth in the front. All of it sounded nice and I kept asking about the price as well as availability. Dr. McCoy would redirect my questions mentioning that the vet tech would go over all of that with me towards the end. After he left the room, the vet tech came in. She gave me two pages of price sheet covering everything. The price for the surgery was $4K. I was livid! Not even none of my surgeries of procedures have ever been that price. For a dog, it's at an outrageous price of 4 grand and can increase to 5. I was expecting it to cost a couple of hundred bucks, nope! The only option for payment plan was to get Care Credit (basically a credit card with high interest rates). I asked the vet tech if I could take Sneakers to his primary vet for the surgery. Her tone quickly changed and said that, if his primary vet referred him out that they didn't trust to do the procedure themselves as their specialty isn't dental. Umm, I was told by Pet Vet to get the estimates of the procedure and they can perform a cheaper surgery. I told this to the vet tech and she said that they were the professionals. She said the sooner they can work on Sneakers mouth, the sooner he will feel better. But Sneakers hasn't made an outcry of pain and has been his normal cheery demeanor. The vet tech said that was normal and the animal can still be in pain. Oh goodness me, I don't understand these money hungry vet specialty clinics. They seem to be all the same. read more

I was so impressed with the price transparency, we were sent home with a detailed cost breakdown of the options discussed during consultation. The day of Lana's procedure Dr. McCoy took the time to explain exactly what the day would look like for Lana, and answering any questions or concerns I had. This discussion took a lot of my fears away, because I knew exactly what was going on throughout the day. When picking up Lana, Dr. McCoy gave us detailed after care instructions, and let us know exactly what to expect after her procedure. I have a Giant Schnauzer who has a malocclusion (severe underbite). This is causing my dog some issues due to his teeth's misalignment. My regular vet referred me to Dr. McCoy at Texas Veterinary Dental center. This Veterinary Dental Center is only one of two veterinary dental centers in Houston. Needless to say Dr. McCoy is in high demand. I did have to wait about 4-5 weeks before getting my appointment, but let me tell you it is worth it to have the right person treating your fur baby. I contacted the center about an appointment where the staff were very friendly and scheduled my appointment with ease. They also discussed pricing with me so there would be no surprises. Prior to the appointment I was emailed the necessary paperwork the office would need so I could bring it when I came for my dog's consultation. When I arrived, there were signs to call them. The staff came out and collected my paperwork and my dog. Due to keeping everyone safe, you are not allowed to go in with your fur baby. However, they office does communicate with you by phone during that time. After Dr. McCoy examined my dog his staff returned in to me and Dr. McCoy came out to speak to me. I appreciate how Dr. McCoy took time to explain Cooper's dental issues so that I could understand. He also provided a very clear plan of the future procedure that would take place in the future and what to expect after. He didn't rush, which I appreciate. Often doctor's try to rush through things and don't give you a chance to ask other questions, but he definitely wasn't like that. He is also very knowledgeable and discussed all options available for my doggie. His staff was extremely friendly and Cooper seemed to really like them. We were told by our vet that our dog's teeth needed to be cleaned (and it was perfectly obvious just by looking at the poor little pooch's teeth). He gave us an estimate of over $500 and we about fainted. We remembered hearing about this specialized dental vet in the Fountains... Dr Ross at the Veterinary Dental Clinic cleaned our dog's dirty teeth at less than half the price ($220). He had plenty of open appointments. His clinic is very clean and the doors are all open so you can see back into the treatment area. He was able to clean her teeth and have her ready to go in about 4 hours (all pets get general anesthesia for teeth cleanings). Dr. Ross is a real vet who just happens to specialize in animal dentistry, and he does a great job. I've only had one dog's teeth cleaned there, but I would definitely bring any of my other dogs there as well (and plan to in the future to avoid the crazy high cost of my regular vet). The rescue group we adopted one of our dogs also highly recommended him when we brought his name up in conversation randomly and they are over an hour away in the woodlands. To the two recent people who left negative reviews I say. 1. If you use the terms "OMFG" in your review you automatically move down several class and trust ratings for your review in my book. 2. You get what you pay for typically and if you expect someone to sit on the phone (who is a doctor) and basically preform a consult for free by reviewing X-rays and giving their expert opinion you are mistaken about how professionals spend and value their time. no decent "human" doctor would do this for you either without a consult. read more

This clinic and Dr. Taylor specifically have been a godsend for our sweet rescue dog Bowie. He had an extensive surgery including multiple tooth extractions and an oro-nasal fistula repair. The clinic was upfront about the cost, and I would say the price, while high, was reasonable considering the specialized nature and quality of the work done. We live out of town and the clinic coordinated weekly follow-ups with our local vet to make sure his sutures were healing properly, and they saw us at the Stafford clinic at one and two months post-op free of charge. When my local vet was checking the sutures they were so impressed with the quality of Dr. Taylor's work. Bowie seems SO much happier and more comfortable now that he's all healed up and we're so thankful! read more

He was very honest and in our case there was no need for further treatment. We had been to another vet who told us surgery could be done but we knew this was not accurate based on our baby's quality of life and comorbidities. We brought our 4 yr old mini Aussie in to address a difficult chipped crown & slab fracture combination, with the hopes of saving the tooth with a root canal. I just found out that for a STAGE 1 of dental with dental cleaning and reg tartar with NO EXTRACTIONS or PERIODONTAL PROBLEMS starts at $900 PLUS $140 for office visit for 1st time patient and once established, then it's $90 or $95. 1st visit and you're looking at $1,040 for BASIC of STAGE 1...OMFG!!!!! They said that they do a whole mouth screening with monitoring that's included in the price, but still, that's CRAZY!!! STAGE 1 for $900??? OMGOSH!! That's OK..I can take my baby elsewhere with GREAT SERVICE, GREAT RATINGS and REASONABLE PRICES to START OFF AND it includes ALL the stuff that this office is giving and their starting price is $200!!!! read more

I should have known better when I called to set up an appointment and the receptionist informed me they "don't do anything for less than 2000 dollar." My dog had injured a canine, and I came to them in the hopes they could save the tooth with a root canal procedure. The vet spent less then 10 minutes with my dog, and determined that the canine couldn't be saved. It had to be removed. Estimate was 2700-3200 dollars to remove the tooth! They pushed me to do further testing at the appointment telling me I would save 20 wopping dollars before surgery if I did it that day. I declined and paid the 150 dollar examination fee. I researched this further and the average nation wide to remove a canine was under 1000 dollars. I went to another vet who spend far more time with me and my dog. She knew I went to a dental specialist and asked to see their x-rays. The doctor looked a little surprised to hear a "specialist" had not done this before diagnosing. The vet wrote up an estimate and walked me through it - unlike at Texas Veterinary where a tech just handed it to me and briefly summed up the cost. The estimate at a regular veterinarian's office with amazing dental reviews was 615-700. I could see a dental specialist costing more- but that much more? Overall, I guess it was worth the drive and the extra cost, to hear what a specialist say. I learned I couldn't save the tooth- since the regular vet could only remove teeth, and wasn't trained to do things like root canals. I understand a specials costs more, and I am fine with paying a little more, but 4x's more? read more

After seeing these nice reviews, I thought Dr. Ross would be just the person to care for my aging dachsund, Oscar, who has had surgery for a back injury. But instead the vet insisted on picking my dog up without supporting his back legs (as any experienced vet should know) and, even though Oscar was squirming with pain, he refused to hold my dog properly. I asked Dr. Ross several times to support Oscar's back legs but he refused. Finally, he put Oscar back on the floor and told me that he would not treat my dog. I was appalled and astonished at the poor treatment given to my dog by Dr. Ross. I also have to wonder - why he is getting such great reviews when he has so little empathy for animals? read more

I never even made it as far as going into the clinic for an evaluation. Dr. McCoy refused to look at any pictures (of the the tooth and x-rays) or even talk with me on the phone (his "customer service rep" played messenger) to help identify the possibilty of treating one tooth with an enamel defect, and give ballpark pricing. I will not make a long and possibly unnecessary drive to be told that no treatement can be offered. I would have been more than happy to come in and pay his overpriced evaluation fee if he could have had the courtesy to spend 5 minutes with over the phone to determine if the drive was worth it in the first place. I have never experienced a vet so unwilling to discuss treatment with a potential client over the phone or take a look at additional data to ensure service can even be offered. It is now my opinion that Dr. McCoy's so called "specialty" service is nothing more than a money grabber. He took over a solid practice and simply bolstered up the prices for the same services. Dr. Ross was a great and fair dentist. I had family and friends that used to use his service and spoke very highly of him. They have stopped going to TVDC ever since McCoy took over. If you do the proper research you can find other pet vet dentist that can offer advanced services at afordable rates. One last comment directed towards Texas Vet Dental Center. If you are going to state to all your customers (old and new) that the prices and services are now altered due the practice being under new guidance; then you should change the name of the practice. It is in very poor taste to keep the name of a very reputable practice when you simply don't offer anywhere close to the same level of service. Good way to pad the stats..... read more

When my regular vet noticed one of Daisy's back molars was cracked and looked infected, she recommended Dr. Ross. So I made the "dreaded" appointment and lied to my dog when I told her we were just going for a ride. Dr. Ross' office is located in the Fountains by the Avalon Diner. The office is clean and we only had a brief wait to see the doctor. Dr. Ross was gentle with Daisy during the examination and murmured nice things to her when he carried her off to the back. He did mention that he saw a couple of problem areas, there was a space between Daisy's front teeth and the gum looked infected due to food getting caught. The doctor advised that once Daisy was anesthetized he would check for other problem areas and may have to pull more than one tooth. I was given a 3-4 hour time frame. I picked up my baby after 4 hours and while still a bit groggy, I was greeted by a tail wag. Dr. Ross ended up pulling 5 teeth (yep, my baby has NO front upper teeth, the little hillbilly). read more

My vet told me one of my Burmese cats had a loose front fang and she needed to go to the dentist. I was all for that but believed it would at least be $500. That is what other vets usually charge me. I took my cat to Dr Ross at Veterinary Dental Clinic, about 20 mile drive from my house in the Heights, and he removed a front fang and a molar. Under $200 for it all. He said these were simple extractions, not complicated. I have another cat who will shortly be making that trip before she has to lose teeth. They are only 6 years old, so go figure. Clean place, quiet, you can see through to the back, receptionist was pleasant, and I really liked the DDS Ross. I am telling my friends about this place. BTW, the original vet told me for four years the cats teeth were perfect. I fired her. Dr. Kay Van Cleave Recently I was told by a new vet that the cats' teeth needed attention and it would be over $400 each. I loaded them up and took them back to Dr Ross. He said their teeth were in good shape and nothing needed done this year but come back next year to be checked again. He charged me nothing. Be sure to see his website, how he got into this business. Was recommended by a local vet when we believed my cat had an absessed tooth. Arriving at the vet dental clinic we expected our cat to have a tooth removed under anesthia and then to pick her up later in the day after the surgery and removal. After looking over our pet and consulting with us we were told by Dr. Ross who had 40 years experience as a vet that it was not an absessed tooth and regretfully had to tell us that my cat had cancer. This may not sound like alot but two other veterinarians had us giving the cat antibiotic because it was believed to have been an absessed tooth and while we believed we were helping the cat we were only prolonging its pain. As for pricing i am unsure since we were not charged for our appt since we were given such bad news about putting the pet down, thank you Dr. Ross and your staff for being respectful and professional. Please make sure that you check online for the location on mapquest, google or use your phone to navigate you. We had trouble finding the location which is on the side of a shopping center when the GPS had us stranded in a parking lot bewildered. read more

For those of you who rated low on prices alone you should be ashamed of yourselves. The low reviews are disingenuous at best. If you both had checked Yelp you would have KNOWN that the practice had changed owners, and the prices had changed. The current staff there provides an outstanding service for the price. My best advice to you is don't go to a Mercedes Dealership if you want to buy a Chevrolet. Bottom line is if you don't use their service you have NO right to give any low ratings, and that goes for any business. read more

As I'm writing this review I'm watching my dog enjoy the drugs Dr. Ross gave him. My dog Candy had some pretty bad teeth... and I knew extractions were needed. My vet told me a teeth cleaning would cost $350 and extractions would be additional. That bill would make a dent in my pocket. While yelping, previous reviews did help me take the jump and head towards Dr. Ross' office. I am ABSOLUTELY please with Dr. Ross' work. Consultation went quick, he told me what needed to be done and how long it would take. I forgot to ask how much everything would cost and was a bit worried since the Vet had given me such a high estimate (I thought that was the norm). I was taken by surprise that having a teeth cleaning and 14 teeth extracted only cost $271. Dr. Ross also took the time to teach me how to train my dog into getting used to getting his teeth brushed. I would definitely recommend him to anyone and everyone! He's so friendly and so funny! When our miniature Labradoodle, Clancy, needed his teeth cleaned, we asked our long time dog groomer for her recommendation. She immediately said she had used Dr. Ross for 28 years for her show dogs and he was, by far, the best. We looked at the Yelp reviews and Dr. Ross' extraordinary level of experience (see his bio info on his website.) Last week we called and made an appointment. This morning we had Dr. Ross clean Clancy's teeth. We could not be more satisfied. Clancy is at my feet now no worst for wear. He had a sleepy afternoon but is now 100% back to his normal tail wagging happy self. I've taken my dog to Dr. Boyd twice, and without a doubt I can honestly say he's an expert in his field. My baby boy, Kodiak has enamel hypoplasia which is an ongoing problem with his enamel formation. He's had enamel restorations, cleanings, and all other kinds of work done all before the age of 2. Dr. Boyd's work is always great and Kodi is always taken care of with the utmost efforts. The staff at both the new and old location are always very informative and reassuring when asking "silly" questions. I took our two sweet pugs in this morning for cleanings after doing my research for the last few months. Dr. Ross was terrific with our girls! He was professional and very thorough. We were referred by our groomer who had used him in the past as well as some of his clients. The office is immaculate and unless you saw veterinary on his door, you'd swear you were in the wrong office! State of the art. Our dogs had 7 extractions between them and he advised me about another issue our youngest pug was dealing with. One visit with Dr. Ross gave me more info than I had received from our regular vet in 7 years. He sits down with you and converses about your pet like he has nothing else to do. Our dogs came home and were up and moving almost immediately waiting for a treat. My personal opinion is look no further when you need to take care of your pets dental needs.
