My cat was there for some testing. They were very kind and helpful, especially Dr. Hayes. Unfortunately my sweet boy had cancer. Ultimately we helped him cross that rainbow bridge. This was a place was amazing when Dr. Tharp was around. Since his passing and since Dr. Hays has left, it is not the same. The last time I took my pet into the vet bc they were sick, I had to leave them there to wait for the vet to see them. The base price for a vet visit is $69. They charged me for all of these tests and the base price. Didn't even have the curtesy to even call me which was what I told would happen. The only feedback I received was from the front desk person who said "they appear to be fine." They charged me $450 and that was all I got... very dissatisfied and frustrated. I do not recommend unless you are ok with mediocre and impersonal service and high vet fees. read more

I love this clinic!!! They have treated two of my dogs. They are kind and professional and I highly recommend! I lost my first one to cancer and I couldn't believe how thoughtful they were through the whole process!! Always there to take a call, always let me come in and talk it through it felt like I was going through it with a friend!!! Now with my new pup we've had a few health scares and they weren't trying to run up a huge bill for nothing which another emergency clinic definitely did!! Dr. Tharp was a wonderful Vet here. Unfortunately, since he is no longer here Voss Road hasn't been the same. I brought my dog in who had an raging ear infection - the vet didn't seemed concerned (no testing of the gunk, just gave her an anti inflammatory shot) but somehow my bill was OVER $300. The next week after it not getting better, I took my dog to a vet right down the road (Memorial Veterinarian Clinic). The place itself was cleansing They seemed much more intuitive and tested the ear & gave her a prescription for both her ears for less than half of what Voss Road charged. I will be switching ASAP! read more

Overpriced, incompetent staff, vet couldn't answer some of my questions. So I would google them, go back and tell her what I learned from research on Google. She told me to stop calling Dr. Google. Changed vets, asked the front desk staff to email all of both of my dog's medical records to new vet. They sent only vaccine reminders, etc. No medical records. Called them back, they finally sent them, but why didn't they do that when I very clearly asked them to send all medical records? And REALLY overpriced. read more

Customer service is by far the worst. They don't care about customers and it makes me wonder how well they treat our pets when they take them back. They are rude and VERY expensive. I took my dog to Voss Road this morning for a rabies shot. As everyone knows already, the state of Texas requires all dogs to be vaccinated for rabies. Voss Road, however, refused to give him the shot. My dog is about 8 1/2 years old. He has no history of illness and is in excellent health, as confirmed by another vet about six weeks ago. Voss Road gave three reasons for refusing to vaccinate my dog: (1) the vet would have to do a physical exam first; (2) he would have to be drugged first (gabapentin); and (3) they were afraid they or I would get bit. As to the first reason, side effects from the rabies vaccine are rare and mild. Per petmd.com, there is no evidence that rabies vaccine every three years will harm even old or chronically ill pets. My dog has had 4 rabies shots, all given at Voss Road, with no side effect. I told Voss Road about his recent physical exam and his general good health. They did not even make an effort to say that another exam was medically necessary, but made it clear that they would not give the shot without the exam. It seems to me they were just trying to run up my vet bills. As to the second and third reasons, they stem from the way the vet tech approached my dog. He barely said hello to me, and did not give my dog any sort of greeting. He just bent over and tried to put the choke-leash on. My dog barked twice when the vet tech was about 6 inches from slipping the leash over his neck. He did nothing else other than backing away a bit. No further protests from the little guy. The vet tech, on the other hand, appeared listless and largely disinterested in his work. For sure, he made no effort to make nice with my dog or to win his trust. So who really was to blame for the two barks? I offered to muzzle the dog or to physically restrain him. The latter is not hard to do: he is barely over 30 pounds and would be positioned on a very slippery, stainless steel table. The shot was to be given in his hind quarters which, at least the last time I checked, is not the biting end of a dog. A final note. Voss Road had not only given him the 4 rabies shots, but maybe another 10 or so shots on previous visits. Nobody got bit. It seems to me that they were again trying to run up my vet bill by charging for the drugs and could not care less about the stress on my dog caused by a return visit. All of this left me feeling like I was being held up by people who were incapable of handling a scared patient other than to drug him. Hopefully, if you take your pet there you will have a better experience. read more

I have been taking Nermal here from day one, and they are always very helpful with everything. They know what they are doing, the Dr.'s I have seen were always so helpful, and generous with their time. I had to leave Nermal there, for a kidney problem, and I knew he was in good hands. They are always honest and willing to work with you. In the past there was one front office person who was not the most friendly, but she is no longer there. read more

My mother takes her dog to this clinic. She is now too frail to take the dog (a beagle) herself, so I'm doing it most of the time. I would not recommend this place to anyone. These people have made so many careless mistakes, at some point they are going to hurt someone's pet. They keep trying to give our dog a rabies vaccination even though they gave her a 3 year vaccination - every single time I take her in (for grooming, regular check-ups, boarding). I keep telling them she isn't due yet, they check her file and respond, "Oh. Yeah." My mother is now in the hospital and I took the dog in to be bathed. I specifically asked if they cut her toenails and they responded "It is included in the bathing services." I get her home and notice that they didn't touch her nails. Moreover, she still smells filthy. I suspect that all they did was hose her down. They are unbelievably rude and unprofessional. Every time you go in, there are files everywhere. The place is a mess and the staff is running around like decapitated chickens. During this last visit, the women at the front desk wouldn't go retrieve my dog from the back until they finished an argument they were having right there in front of me. The argument had nothing to do with my account - so there was no reason to make me wait for this nonsense. I guess they just wanted an audience. In the 11 months I've been bringing her dog here, I have yet to have any contact with an actual vet. The vets could be saints, and it wouldn't matter. They don't seem to be making the day-to-day pet care decisions which are left to their petty, harried, careless and unprofessional staff. read more

Some of the staff is friendly. Most of the staff is not. I have gone to this vet on multiple occasions and each time, I leave deciding I need to find a new vet. The six-month checkup comes all too soon and I end up back here again though. The actual vets in the office are pretty great though. Since I spend 5 minutes with the vet and 55 minutes with the staff, I find myself leaving with a bad taste in my mouth that I can't ignore. read more

I will never set foot in this place again. I have been going to Dr Tharp since I was a child. Several years ago, my cat was diagnosed with epilepsy. He had to take medication twice a day to control his seizures. I had no trouble refilling his scrips until the past couple years, when I was required to bring him into Voss Road once a year for blood testing. I would only get a month's notice and was told I couldn't refill scrips until my cat saw the vet. This made it very difficult to keep up with his refills. There were a few times he went days without medication because they refused to refill it and I couldn't always afford the visit on short notice. They wouldn't work out any payment plans with me. I had to watch him have seizures knowing there was nothing I could do. This happened again a few weeks ago. I took him in to be seen on a Saturday first come first serve, but they were already closed. I called the office and left a message with Dr Tharp advising him my cat is having seizures and I am incredibly worried...wondered if he could make an exception and call scrip in for me. Well, I never received a call back and sadly, my cat died the following day while having a seizure. To add insult to injury, when I contacted the vet to find out cremation options, not once did they offer condolences. But, they certainly made it clear that I had to pay them $180 up front. They reiterated this when I walked in the door, puffy eyed with tears rolling down my face. They also said they would tell Dr Tharp my cat passed. I was shocked that he never called me. I appreciate the sympathy. Two weeks later, I don't have his ashes. I call them and they claim they had tried calling me and CANNOT FIND HIS ASHES. Really? I am livid. Long story short, this place is all about money. They don't care about the welfare of your pet, they are rude and inconsiderate. I am very disappointed and after sitting on hold for twenty minutes while they try to locate my cat's ashes, only to be told they still can't find them, I am beyond frustrated. I don't see how this happens and how they can justify any of their actions. I wish I had never gone to this vet to treat my sweet cat. He deserved way better than this. Had I gone elsewhere, he would probably still be alive now. read more

I chose this vet because it was close by, but I rather drive a little further for a better experience. My little dog has the habit of eating clothing, and she started dry-heaving, which made me worry. When I got there, there were three ladies at the front desk, and none of them greeted me. When I finally got their attention, I got the rudest "welcome" imaginable (the other two ladies seemed helpful). Since we were new, and a little worried, we rushed out of our place without grabbing my dog's records from her previous vets. The woman that was "helping" me said that I could have the vets fax the records over, and next time I should be more prepared. I would have just walked out the door then if I wasn't worried. The appointment with the vet wasn't the worst, but it wasn't the best experience ever. I felt like they were more concerned with leaving on time on a Friday afternoon, rather than caring for my pet. I have been taking my dog here since he was 7 weeks old and he is now going on 5 years old. The staff is very friendly and the vets and their techs know their stuff and are very attentive to the dog. The vets are always very through with explaining what was going on with my dog. They are priced very fair. My brother's dog got hit with a car and broke his leg. They took him to his regular vet who then turned him away to an animal emergency hospital which tried to charged $4000 to fix the dog. I recommended my vet who fixed him up for less then half of the cost. I trust them 100% with my dog! read more

I am sad that people have had such bad experiences here. I have used this clinic for years and found them helpful, caring and very knowledgeable. They are amazing with geriatric pets! When I find a good companion for my older baby that puppy will start out in the best hands...Voss road! ! Even though we've moved all over the city during that time, we have ALWAYS made sure that we brought our pets here to see dr. hays and company. :) they are the most knowledgeable, thorough and thoughtful staff Ive ever encountered in a veterinary hospital. I'm so grateful that they are always conscientious about costs while still being as thorough as possible in the care and testing of my pets. Rachel Straver is probably one of the best vets we have have seen: she was very friendly, knowledgeable and took time to thoroughly explain everything she did, and also allowed time for questions/discussion...she is very genuine and approachable, and takes time to bond with the animal (this is really important to me, as my baby gets a little anxious around strangers) Clinic is a bit busy, so wait time was about 20-25 mins with a scheduled appointment. Prior to going there I have read all of the reviews, and was expecting staff to be rude but luckily it was not my experience at all, and we were there on a Monday 5:30pm (end of the day/hectic time) - front desk staff was courteous and helpful. Clinic was very clean as well. I was definitely happy with the services, and prices we received and will be going back. read more

Dr. Pieratt is most compassionate and caring Vet I have met. Because of him I had the "BEST CHRISTMAS EVER" this year!!! "A TRUE CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!!" I've been bringing our dogs to Dr. Hays for eight years, despite the fact that Voss Road Animal Clinic was not convenient and more expensive than other clinics. I very much wanted our dogs to have an ongoing relationship with a good, knowledgeable vet so that lord forbid, if anything bad should ever happen, we'd be dealing with someone who knew them and actually cared about them. Long story short, 3 weeks ago, we took our dachshund in for what we thought was simple stomach trouble. Dr. Hays did an Xray and was alarmed to note that his spleen was quite enlarged. As he was going to be out for the rest of the week, Dr. Tharp took over the rest of the testing and was prepared to do a spleenectomy. After an ultrasound, Dr. Tharp called us with a diagnosis of probable advanced hemangiosarcoma and we were advised to forgo surgery and use pain meds to keep our dog comfortable until the tumor ruptured (average lifespan after this type of diagnosis with no surgery is a month or less). We got a second opinion from an oncologist and determined that the reading of the ultrasound done at Voss had been botched; while there was a large, cancerous tumor on the spleen, there was NOT, as the original report suggested, an equally large mass on the liver. This made our dog a good candidate for surgery and chemo, which will hopefully extend his ability to live an active, happy life by several months. Post-surgery, he's out of pain, eating, playing, and doing great (despite a few small lesions that were spotted on his liver). Without surgery, he'd probably be dead now. The botched ultrasound reading wasn't even what upset me; things happen and that's why second opinions are valuable. What's upsetting is that three weeks after this devastating diagnosis, there has been no followup from anyone at Voss Road. No call from Dr. Hays, who has seen our little guy ever since we found him as a mangy bag of bones on the side of the road 8 years ago. No followup call from Dr. Tharp, who delivered the bad news). No "How is he doing? Does he need more pain meds? Is there anything more we can do? What did the oncologist say? How are YOU guys doing--are there any questions we can help answer?" I feel as though this horrible news was dumped on us and that was that. His longtime doctor doesn't know if he's alive or dead. We've stuck with this clinic through bumpy periods of time in which certain members of the desk staff were rude, inefficient and wait times were slow (that all has improved, thankfully) because we genuinely liked our doctor and how much he cared about his patients. This experience has changed our perspective. We don't feel that our dachshund is valued as a patient; and we don't feel valued as clients...especially after spending all the time and money that we've spent at this clinic over the years. Dr. Kamal is the worst vet I have ever taken my animals to and I deeply regret it because now my 4 year old dog has limited time left to live; and that is beside the fact of her being rude and unsympathetic. I I brought my dog into her a few months ago to get a growth on her back, concerned it was cancer. I requested they ran any sort of test to which Dr. Kamal denied running tests and stated, "Just by looking at it, I can tell it is just a skin infection and can be treated with antibiotics". I then asked if she was sure it wasn't cancer and she told me she was sure it was not. (Just by LOOKING AT IT she determined it wasn't cancer without any tests ran to confirm) I give my dog the full course of antibiotics, some time passes, and the bump has no change. Still concerned of cancer, I take her to my hometown vet to have a second opinion. The second my vet sees the bump, she informs me that she needs to run tests because she's concerned from the looks of it. After running one test, she confirms that it is cancer. However, now it has spread and is life threatening when before, when I saw Dr. Kamal, it was localized and had not yet spread. I returned to Voss Road Animal Clinic to talk to Dr. Kamal and inform her of the cancer my dog has that she denied and she was utterly rude. She cut me off multiple times, rolled her eyes anytime I spoke, and refused to own up to her mistake. My issue is that she committed mal practice, informing me my dog was cancer-free, with no due diligence. I told her that was my only problem with this situation and she refused to see how she was at fault. Terrible human, even worse vet. Do NOT see her. She needs her license revoked. read more

My first visit and the one that encouraged me to transfer my business here was with a front desk staff of a man and woman who were very helpful. My last two experiences with the front desk employees has been awful. The two sour awful women were unhelpful, disorganized and exceptionally rude. Of course, I am of the opinion that a store front business should offer a smile, acknowledgement of the person and some direction. Thankfully, my experience with Dr. Kamal was most pleasant. After far too many negative experiences with several uninformed or cold vets and reception staff at Winrock Animal Clinic, ugh, I finally asked around my Briargrove neighborhood for vet ideas and MANY people mentioned Voss Rd and Dr Ben Tharp. So I ended up taking my beloved Scotty/poodle dog here for exams, tests, and, sadly, surgery. We were treated so well by Ben Tharp that I was both amazed and frustrated that I hadn't thought earlier to get referrals from other dog owners in the area. I actually wanted to call Winrock and tell their indifferent vets to meet Tharp just to see how a caring, thorough and experienced veterinarian should work. I just can't say enough great things about how well he cared for my dog and my fears over the surgery! The only minuses here are the crowded waiting area on Thursdays and the sometimes stressed counter staff. However, this place is popular for a good reason! Great vets and loyal clients! read more

Dr. Ben Tharpe is the best veterinarian I have ever known. First, his medical knowledge is exceptional, he has done some miraculous things for our various pets for over 25 years. Second, his compassion and care for animals are far above that of any vet I know. His spirit extends to the other vets and staff in the clinic. Third, his prices are fair. Unlike some in this city, he neither gouges nor presses clients for unnecessary treatments. Ben is truly an honorable man of integrity, service to his clients and a great vet. I had an emergency with my dog, Jack, after he fell off a bed while we were in a rehab hospital with my mother. He is a Yorkie so it was kind of a big fall for him especially since he hit his head on the way down. I went Voss Road Animal Clinic without an appointment and they took me right away. The vet was great and she checked him out and declared him ok. She gave him steroids for a few days just in case he had some swelling in his head and told me to watch him for 48 hours and said to call if any problems. I was very impressed that she didn't run a bunch of tests or take a bunch of x-rays. Fortunately Jack was great and had no complications from his fall - except he refused to get back on the bed. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone that needs a vet. They are AWSEOME!!! read more

I'm surprised by the low review for this Vet clinic. I have taken my cats here for regular check ups and although the staff isn't warm, they have never ignore me or been rude. The Vets are thorough and their assistants have been troopers with one of my kitties who is uber-skittish and can get quite testy. I will continue to go here and hope that my luck continues. I like having a place near by who has my pets' records rather than hopping around and not having a good history built up. read more

Dr Tharp has seen my animals a few times and is always thorough and explains himself well as long as you ask questions. I have nothing but good things to say. He tried to save my rescue lab mix dog "Sadie" but couldn't. She starved for weeks then after an operation died of a stomach fungus ??? I was overwhelmed with grief . I actually took my dear sweet Sadie home to bury her, only to be told I couldn't as it was a rental house. I drove back (and it was very late ) I am sure dr Thorpe must have thought I was a total weirdo but he saw how completely distressed I was and said he would bury Sadie on his farm . I hope he did and I hope he is as much of an angel as I think he is. Dr Thorpe went way above and beyond his duties and I will not forget what he did for us as it was an extremely difficult time. I wish I could afford to go here all the time. I end up going to the mobile clinics now for shots and wounds etc now days. I still miss Sadie and hate that I could not save her and that she lived such a hard short life. Dr Thorpe also fixed my dog pinkys anal gland infection - yuck and also did a great job $480. read more

I love this clinic, the front desk ladies, the vet assistants and the vets! I had only ever taking my dog to Banfield (after months of digestive problems, trying to upsell me on things, horrible turnover rates with the vets and a wellness plan that did little to keep my dog well. ) but last year after bringing foster dogs to this clinic decided to switch my own dogs care here as well. I have not regretted it for one moment. Dr. Tharp came highly recommended by a couple of people I know and I have to agree. He's got an amazing bedside manner, cares about the animals and will do his best to diagnose whatever issue they're having. I've also seen Dr. Rob couple of times Dr Tharp was unavailable and was impressed with him as well. The clinic itself has not tried to upsell me on services the way Banfield did and has been reasonably priced especially when my dog needed x-rays during the holidays. Since it's at an older house, and there's not much parking, if you come when it's crowded, parking can be a challenge. But that's really the only downside. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about Voss Rd Clinic! Both Dr. Tharp and Dr. Hayes are the most comprehensive and caring vets. They all have always gone above and beyond for me and my 2 elderly Yorkie's! The staff is very caring too! They saved my Missy's life last July, met me at the clinic on a Sunday morning to do emergency surgery for her. And, when she is seen for less critical issues, they always call a day or two later to check on her! Needless to say Dr. Tharp and Dr. Hayes are my heroes! God Bless them! read more

I had a 17 year dog that had become senile and was under treatment at another clinic in the area that was closed on Saturday. I contacted Voss Road they took me in immediately and I found them extremely understanding and assisted me in making the decision for my pet. They were very sympathitic, understanding and reasonable. I appreciate them helping me and my sweet baby during this difficult time even thought i was not a client of theirs.
