Our friends were in town from Des Moines Iowa and we wanted to share the winery experiences in Fredericksburg with them. I got a good deal on Groupon for Texas Winos and we went. First time I've ever done a wine tour. Overall we had a tremendous time the communication was awesome from start to finish. My wife and her friends said they had a good time on this trip, which is not the problem. We were charged for the original trip and then charged again several weeks after the trip was over. There is nobody to talk to on the phone, and wino claims he will refund the second charge. We have yet to see this chargeback and are considering legal action against them, since this is a common theme on this blog. They responded with some crap excuse about us possibly leaving the app open and ordering their service twice, but the charges were 6 weeks apart and we never received a receipt for the second charge. The credit card company will get our money back for us, but this company has tarnished its name by doing this for only $500. If you do purchase a trip with them, do not sign up for it on their website. Purchase your tickets through Groupon or any other offerings. I hope this helps. To the Winos, get ready to pay $500 + legal expenses now. read more

That was so much fun! Daniel was a great guide and Jim, a wonderful driver. We enjoyed all three wineries, each with its own 'flavor', if you'll pardon the pun. Lunch at Michelino's was good but the service left something to be desired as we were one of the first seated and the last to be served. May have had something to do with the fact that we didn't order Mimosas. We decided it wouldn't keep us from enjoying the rest of the day and I'm glad we didn't!! Y'all these folks have TERRIBLE customer service. I paid for an event prior to attending, then the original tour guide got sick and we got another, ok no problem, then the theme of the tour changed, ok no problem, the BBQ served wasn't the best, ok no problem I brought food just in case and our last stop we could buy pizza so ok no problem. THENNNN I got charged again for the same event 10 days later. I tried calling their 1-888 number which some lame automated voice with a British accent (*snort*) says that their phone tree has changed there is no option to actually speak to anyone (also note on YELP the owner posted that the phone system is beeping updated as is 03/07/2022 - it's been more than a year and a half, c'mon). After digging around I found an email. I emailed saying to take off the charge immediately. I got an email back from "Richard Wino" - who knows, telling me it would be handled ASAP. Five days later, ASAP, has passed and I have not been refunded. Honestly, this experience wasn't all that and a bag of chips, much less one to be charged twice for attending. read more

I am very disappointed with a wine tour that never happened. Back on December 3, 2022, a bus load of fun seeking friends paid for a wine tour that never happened. We waited 2 hrs for a bus that was supposedly "on the way". Needless to say, it never showed up. So no problem. We will get a refund. WE ARE STILL WAITiNG on our refund. Mr Richard was nice at first and said he would accommodate but he has not actually paid us back our money. Mr. Richard if you read this we are still waiting. I'm a bit conflicted about the experience. First of all, our guide Taylor was amazing!! He was entertaining and definitely laid down some ground rules that made everyone on the bus feel welcome, comfortable and most importantly, ready to have fun! He set a great tone for the rest of the trip. The tour itself was just ok. It felt like we wasted a lot of time just getting to the 1st winery, Messina Hof, which was also the best winery of the 3 in terms of service, ambiance and wine quality! We wasted about 10-15 min waiting for someone, got a bit lost in a parking lot for a while trying to pick up the second group, then hit some traffic, etc. The 2nd winery was a bit strange as we were ushered into a dance hall serving Italian food. The wines were not great (food was decent) but we also received such small pours that it was hard to tell. Definitely felt like a tourist trap. The last winery was an Israeli winery. They definitely didn't seem prepared for large groups and the people working there weren't very pleasant or friendly, mostly overwhelmed. It wasn't a fun experience. Given the long lines, you almost had to get a tasting and get back in line while drinking. Some suggestions 1. The same tours from Austin were also visiting the same wineries. Are there really not more than 3 wineries in the area so you could spread out some of the crowd? Places like the Israeli winery definitely weren't prepared or staffed appropriately. 2. Better winery selection. I would almost rather have stayed and just hung out at Messina Hof with a bottle and a boxed lunch than visit the other 2 wineries. 3. I felt like we had time to fit in a 4th winery but we ended up leaving pretty early and headed back. 4. With a Groupon deal, we ended up paying $75-80 per person. It's nice to not have to worry about drinking and driving but I definitely expected higher qualities wineries. read more

I do not recommend. Back in September 2023, my boyfriend and I signed up and paid for a wine tour. Two days before the event, Richard contacted us and informed us that the tour we signed up for was cancelled at the last minute and offered us to do another tour on the same day. We went ahead and agreed since the day was already planned. A few days after the tour, the credit card that we used to pay for the tour was charged 2x ($180 each) with unauthorized charges. We contacted Richard via email and he said that there was a security breach on their system and they are fixing the problem and will contact us again to refund the money. To this date, Richard or any one from the Texas Wino team has not contacted us despite the numerous emails we have sent. We've already filed the dispute through the credit card company for the fraudulent charges; the credit card company reimbursed one charge; however, they wouldn't reimburse the other charge since Texas Wino told them that they will refund us, till now we have not received any refunds. Be careful with this wine tour company and the fraudulent charges that might occur on your credit card. As far as the wine tour itself, I still give it a 1-star. There were only 3-locations to visit, only one provided good service and wine taste. Lunch that was provided was sub-par. I suggest to do more research on other wine tours in the area. It's ridiculous go back and forth on an $180 charge; however, it's the principle of it all. I'm sure if this happened to us, it happened or will happen to someone else. Jordan was our tour guide. He was quite funny. He took the time to check in with each group on the tour to answer questions and keep everyone updated on what the next step of the tour would be. We were on a large bus with 2 combined tours. I would have liked to have known that before hand. Would also like to know the size of the tours so I/we could pick accordingly. Wasn't too crazy about some of the other people on the tour, thus would be the reason why I/we would like to know the size of the tour (so we could pick smaller group). Overall, would go again, would just make sure that I was on a smaller group (schedule a private tour). read more

I want to start by saying that we did have fun on our wine tour. We got an email while we were on the wine tour asking us how things were going which showed they really do care. There was nothing specifically wrong with our day I just felt that the expectations were set too high. I have never participated in a murder mystery themed event before. On the email the themed event details read "There has been a murder! There will be clues, actors and surprises on this mobile mystery tour!". I assumed that meant that the whole time we would talk to people in our group and gather clues to try to figure out who the actors were. Maybe that was a bad assumption but here is what really happened: after the first winery we had assumed we must have been mistaken because we only had two more wineries left and there was no mention of the clues or murder mystery at all. Then when we were at the restaurant for lunch we were asked for 7 volunteers. The 7 of us were given a script with two short scenes on it. We acted one scene out at this restaurant and one at the end of the day and everyone had to guess who the murderer was from those two scenes. I did not feel that there were any clues in the story we were all guessing blindly and it was the most obvious person. Pros to this method: the acting part could be really fun and they did give some small prices (Texas winos swag like cups and bags) to those who guessed correctly. Again, on the email listing details it said "and a secret bonus stop with a private 3+ courses lunch and tasting". Our "secret bonus stop" was a brewery that included a choice of sandwich (no alterations allowed) that came with chips. The only drinks that were included were iced tea or water, if you wanted anything else you had to buy it yourself. Later in the details given to us it again mentioned "meal: we'll have a wonderful 3+ course sit down lunch" I cannot figure out what they meant by 3+ courses because it was a sandwich and chips. On the details included in the email they had a whole section that said not to worry about taking out your camera because they will take pictures and post them by the following Wednesday so that you can access them free of charge. I thought this was an awesome idea to keep people present in the moment and because I didn't feel like the guide really needed to be there. He was friendly but we probably could have just had the bus driver drop us off at each place and been fine. If he took any pictures of me then they are all candid because I was never aware of it. I checked the website just in case and it says the albums are currently down. Big disappointment, I would have rather not read that part and put that idea into my head in the first place. Things to note: it says to be prepared to be back 30 minutes after the time it says, we got back an hour and a half later so make sure you have a flexible schedule. I bought the Groupon which said "wine tastings not included but are offered for a small fee". When you cash in your Groupon voucher it automatically forces you to pay the tasting fee (and says or you can't drink at all which defeats the purpose of a wine tour) which is 31 dollars per person. Overall, if you are just looking for a fun day to drink some wine this would be a perfectly fine option. Just do not go into it with any expectations and take whatever you read in your emails/on the website with a grain of salt. read more

I have to give it one star otherwise I can't review. Where do I start: I was supposed to go on their cruise on October 21 leaving out of Galveston. I paid my deposit in August and the balance in September. On Tuesday 10/17, I receive an email letting me know that my reservation was not made and they are refunding my money. That's just the beginning. Not only did they ruin my vacation plans, but they haven't even refunded my money. $493.79 to be exact. I've called and spoke to Bren and Scott and both said "we'll get your message to Richard as he's working on refund." I've emailed with no response. I purchased a tour for 4 people from Texas Winos through Groupon. I didn't realize the price I paid did not include wine tastings. This was very deceiving. It wasn't until after I purchase the voucher was I able to read the fine print. This is very upsetting. I contacted Groupon via instant messaging and communicated with Jagannah. This person was great. He gave me options on credit for the voucher (please note I had not used the voucher). When I explained I'd rather have it refunded. They were able to comply with my request. The Groupon customer service representative was wonderful. I don't know who puts the description of the tour on Groupon (I'm thinking it's Texas Winos) but it was not clear on the charges. I was disappointed by this experience. My friends and I intended to celebrate a birthday with the Great Gatsby-themed wine tour. After purchasing the experience on Groupon I was immediately shocked the Groupon price was not as advertised. There was a fee charged by Texas Winos on top of the Groupon price. Unfortunately the day of didn't get any better. Our first stop was a lovely winery where we had Italian food and wine tasting. The food was delicious and the wine was ok, but I am not really sure considering we were given miniscule pours. The second stop was an incredibly snooty winery Inwood. They were inexcusably rude and not ready for us and kicked us out. The guide tried in vain to call Richard and finally made a decision to leave. The third stop was Fat Ass wines. The atmosphere was fun and upbeat. The wine tasted like melted jolly ranchers and it was $10 a piece for the smallest wine slushies ever. At least the atmosphere was good, but it was disappointing we didn't have a private tasting and we're with the masses. We then went back to the second winery where once again they were rude and not ready. Here's a twist, we were at the WRONG winery!!!! The tour guide blamed the bus driver and the driver blamed the guide. But we were off again to the last winery. The last winery was an Israeli winery. We were ushered into a large building that was crowded and with terrible acoustics. The wine maker "presented" each wine. It was inaudible. A group of us left and ended up in the main building for a proper glass of wine---FINALLY! The tour guide, while a very nice man, didn't serve a purpose. He knew nothing about wine or the wineries we visited. I expected an exclusive experience for the money I paid, but we were mixed in with all regular guests and had to "belly up" to the bar to get tastes of wine. I also didn't understand the theme. We all dressed up, but there was no tie to the 20's. I would NOT recommend this company, as you can take a wine tour on your own for less money. read more

The tour was awesome! In spite of starting our tour late due to mechanical issues, they were able to provide another bus in a reasonable amount of time. Our tour guide, Adam was amazing as well. He ensured that the birthday surprise that I planned went well. The wineries were great and we learned a lot about wine. In fact, we might even join a wine club! The food was fairly decent. It wasn't the best, but it was eatable. The only suggestion I would give is to either ensure you bring food with you or encourage the organization to have snacks/another food stop. WINOFest San Antonio July 10, 2022 This is my second WINOFest and these guys do it right. Despite one of the A/C units being out, everyone was having a great time. Who wouldn't when sampling some nice wine? There were six wineries present and Hye Cider from Hye, Texas. There was also a booth selling cheese and one selling great Italian Olive oil. There was also a BBQ station so you could eat some authentic Texas barbeque. I'm not a white drinker but the reds I sampled were delicious. 12 Fires Winery had a dry red called Maroon II, which was smooth and with good tannins. Blue Mule Winery had a couple of dry reds which were okay but had a slight chemical taste. Cast Iron Winery had a Mourvèdre which was very good. I like my reds dry and with great tannins and this one came through for me. Landon Winery had a medium-bodied Tempranillo which was good with nice tannins. The 290 Wine Castle - a place I've driven by many times but never stopped - had a Spanish Mourvèdre that was on a special BOGO price. This was worth buying. Their Cab Franc was amazing. Both will make me stop the next time I'm in the area. Vinovium Winery was the last winery there. Their reds were a bit light for my taste. Richard and the rest of the WINOS make this experience painless. Everything runs smoothly. Email communication is frequent the closer you get to your activity date. Richard even hosts a ZOOM Wine 101 class a few nights before the event to help newbies and those who are not entirely so new to wine to help demystify wine tasting, giving many expert tips. This was free and a bonus to your purchase of the WINOFest ticket. I want to try their tours now. I know they will be run as well as this event was, and I look forward to attending their events soon. read more

I really enjoyed the tour a lot! The food at the brewery was excellent and the tours at 290 and Fat Ass were amazing I even bought two bottles but I really disliked the last one Mendlebaum, it wasn't any good. The bus ride was very annoying they blasted music incredibly loud and even after asking them to turn it down they turned it right back up after 5 minutes! It gave me a horrible headache and I couldn't even have a conversation with the people I came with even when screaming. On top of that the tour guide was annoying and was a huge partier he kept dancing down the hall of the bus and even twerked. PHILLIP is not the tour guide for you if your wanting a nice relaxed trip to tour some good vineyards. He belongs in a club by the end of the tour he seemed quite intoxicated. read more

Previously went on a tour in 2018/2019 timeframe and we loved it! Went again last month and it was a COMPLETELY different experience. We had about 20 minutes at each place. Felt extremely rushed. Not once were we told what type of wine we were drinking or how to drink it (like you expect at a tasting). At two of the stops we didn't even have time to buy a bottle because the line was too large and the bus would leave us. The driver/host got lost on the way to the wineries twice which added 2 hours to our drive time. We calculated it later and we were on the bus for 6.5 hours and we only had 1.25 hour(s) between all the places. We ended up getting off the bus at 8pm just exhausted from all the driving. We would have been better just getting a bus ticket to a neighboring state and just bringing wine on that drive lol. It's sad because this tour used to be fun and informative with a good sit down tasting at each venue. Now it is just poorly run and communicated. I would not recommend this tour anymore. Also we met three other couples on this tour. They all had been on previous ones with this company and they all were saying the same things we were. They honestly should have just refunded this tour. Maybe we were just a one off bad tour, but I wouldn't give this place another try unless they guaranteed a better experience. It was just awful all around. read more

Awesome tour except for one thing...I'll get to that in a second. The bus is large and luxurious. Took off on time. The people we met were amazing The first Winery: Possibly the best winery in Texas. Carter Creek Winery wine is unbelievable. Just layers and layers of flavors in every wine. We tried 6. Second winery: So bad. First the owner, Nitzan Mendelbaum yells at someone for tapping on the table. A bunch of us thought he was joking at first, but by the look on his face told us he's not the kind of guy who even smiles. This was the second winery of our TEXAS WINOS tour. The other wineries made their own wine. Advice: if you're not going to serve your own wine, at least pick something that's decent. All the Israeli imported wine was 1-Dimensional. When the owner brought his 2 options at a time ("Sweet or dry") he made sure his 1 ounce pourers were tight on those bottles...and he still cut it off before the ounce. Thanks for the swallow at a time, Mendelbaum. It really helped us all sober up after the last place gave us real pours. And would it kill you to tell us a little bit about the kind of wine we're drinking? You treated us like a burden. I hope you get treated the same in Fredricksburg. BTW, there were consistent complaints about you guys in advance and pretty much everyone in solidarity may never recommend TEXAS WINO TOURS as long as MENDELBAUM CELLARS is listed on their docket! Went on my first wine tour this past weekend. It was a bus/van - 25 max people and we had 20 people on this tour. The tour seemed to start off ok, we got on the bus and we had the bus driver and the tour guide who got us kicked off and he was funny and entertaining. He even went around and took everyone's song request for our trip (3 songs per person). Then we took off to Fredericksburg. About 20 min in I realized the bus was NOT cooling down.. it was still very hot and humid. We were sitting in the very back. Then we make a stop at a gas station where the tour guide tells us he had to leave to get on another tour so he leaves and we get no songs and no "guide" just our driver. This was also when we were told that the very back of the bus was under the A/C unit that apparently had a lot of condensation and was known to "drip" a little bit but the driver told us that on the left side was good and we would not have any issues w/ water dripping on us. That was not true. We had not just drips but at some times good splashes of water down our backs. At the time, it was fine because the water was nice and cold so with it being hot on the bus it was fine. We didn't realize it until we got home that the water stained our clothes. 1. No A/C on the bus 2. 2 locations that we stopped at also did not have any A/C at their locations (in-doors). Plus NOT one of these places educated us about any of the wines other than this was dry and this is sweet, etc. One of our locations had BBQ lunch and the pulled pork was overly salty. The rest of the food was ok but no one ate the pulled pork. 3. The last location was "the castle" and that was the best stop we had all day. Keep in mind this was a "tasting" tour, so it was literally a "TASTE" of the wine, I would say barely an ounce of wine w/ each taste... For $175 per person, I'd not recommend or go again. read more

We understand we can't get back our time or have another 65th Bday for my aunt, but I sincerely appreciate your professionalism and business tact you have for your customers.**** I would like to preface with the fact that I've been on other Texas Winos events, wine tour, etc. and always had a great time. Given that, in the past, were professional and know how to throw a great party, we booked 22 family members for a boat trip on Lake Travis for 8/11. Long story short, we had family from all over Texas drive in to Austin for our Aunt's 65th bday party. Ice chests packed and ready for a great afternoon out on the party boat. HOWEVER, our large family, PRE-PAID, group had arrived and asked to wait in 102 degree heat, for an hour and 1/2, all for NOTHING! We were left with one of the dock folks telling us there was no boat available for us. After some scrambling, we all ended up making the drives back home and sent an "Apologies..." email. We were promised refunds and that Richard would call us all on Fri. The 16th to make sure we've been refunded... which STILL HASN'T happened. I emailed on Mon the 19th and just called again, the 21st... to no avail. I am hoping to be contacted ASAP. There were other upsetting factors, such as one boat being there & available, however instead of making sure a party of 22 were given priority over several small parties, also left us with a terrible feeling of being looked over. Great wine tour to Fredericksburg! Tour guide was very personable and entertaining. He made sure we had everything we needed. The bus was large, super clean with air conditioning cranked up and even had a bathroom. I suggest bring a snack and some water; lunch wasn't the greatest and we were pretty hungry by the end of the trip. Wineries were nice and the tour guides were very friendly. So I have mixed feeling about our experience. First off it felt like some wineries were not prepared and decided to take us on last minute especially Mendelbaum and the second one in town. Mendelbaum were so rude. I would have rather done 2 wineries and spent an hour downtown enjoying the shops. Tour guide was fun I don't know how much control he had over the day but he tried. The last winery was the best one with friendly staff that were so cool laughing and joking with us. I think they were called Tejas winery. We did a wine event through this company on 2/23 for my bachelorette party and we had an AMAZING time! Adam (Quick) has a great host, the bus driver was a fun person, and the atmosphere was excellent. We ate at Bryan's on 290, and while delicious, I think the group consensus was that we left hungry - next time we'd pack more snacks. We stopped at 3 wineries for tastings (and a 4th really quick to buy bottles!) and while I couldn't tell you exactly what they are called (Fat Ass was one of the wineries for sure) or what I tried, it was fun over all. This was a really fun day for my close friends and me! The one downside was the return trip - lots of traffic, but can't really blame them for that! read more

My first time on a tour with the Texas Wino's group and it was a lot of fun. We visited three wineries and had a great place where we were served an amazing chicken & waffle brunch - well let's call it 'linner" since it was not served till 2pm. My only complaint. We spent about 50 minutes to an hour at each stop. Plenty of time for the tasting and to shop or just relax and enjoy the Hill Country views. We visited Texas Heritage winery and enjoyed the attention from the staff and conversations with the owner Susan. The wines were delish especially their Dolcetta! We got a bonus tasting of their Muscat which is definitely an acquired taste!! The next stop was lunch at Sweet Briar Rose then off the Hye Meadow where we sat outside on a beautiful property and had 5 tastings. The dog Chief ran around greeting folks. Our last stop at 290 Wines was good too. Picnic table seating outside and lots of tables inside. If you like sweet fruity wines they had quite a selection. Our tour guide Jordan was a funny and entertaining fellow. I'd recommend this tour for everyone. I'll go again for sure. read more

This was my second wine tour with Texas Winos and it was a blast. Our tour left from Austin and drove to Fredericksburg and each stop I had an amazing experience. Each winery had multiple samples for us and if your a wine connoisseur there will be a in depth experience for you and if your just learning about wine this is best to try all different types of wine. We celebrated my mom's 60th birthday with a Texas Winos tour to Fredericksburg and had a great time! The bus was a bit old looking, but comfortable and great, cold AC! Our tour guide Kris was fun, prompt, friendly, and informative - he really made the day great along with our driver. I would definitely book another tour with this group. This was my first wine tour. I've done tastings but at one location. This experience was definitely different. Glad my friend asked me to join her on her bday bash tour party of 9. The meet up location was easy and convenient. We road on a charter bus to Fredericksburg. The driver Alex handled the bus well. Our guide was Coby he was definitely apart of the party. He had good energy and explained the agenda well. We did our three stops with no issues. The Italian meal we were served at the first location was really good (this was included in what we signed up for). Although it was another hot day in Texas I enjoyed myself even bought a bottle to bring home. I would definitely do this again. Oh the music selection definitely varied. It made a difference as well. read more
