Book with caution. Our entire trip to San Antonio was planned around this restaurant walking tour. I coordinated 4 women's schedules, travel and booked the VRBO. Then 35 days before our planned trip I received a notice that the prepaid event had been cancelled. They offered to reschedule out 30 days further or refund. Four very disappointed women but grateful they didn't cancel the day before the event. Luckily there is a lot to do in San Antonio but its hard to find one common interest between 4 women other than food! Three like to drink, one doesn't. Two like history, two don't. Went on the one of the food tours back when the business was first starting, for the amount I paid it was a really great experience. You get to visit 5 different stops (mine was only four since it was the starting phase). I went on a Sunday tour, the tour differs between the two based on the dessert place (La Boulangerie on Saturday, Paleteria on Sunday). The tour was great, we start at Ocho, you get a taste of one of the popular dishes and history on SA, then start on foot towards Luke, receiving information about the city on the way. I enjoyed a great little dish and drink at Luke, then headed on to Nectar, and got a HUGE sampling of the meats and cheeses that they offer, from there we head to Zinc. At Zinc I tried one of the best guacs in town, and saw some of my fellow tour-ers the purchase a Prickly Pear Margarita, which was really really pretty. (Typically you visit a desert place last, but because i went on the tour before the Paleteria was confirmed, we skipped this stop.) The SA Food Tours staff is friendly and knowledgeable, they've put a lot of time and hard work into the tour, and its a great way to experience San Antonio's food scene and get some history at the same time. Loved this! I can't think of a better way to experience food and downtown than through SA Food tours. Our guide was Jordan and he was very knowledgeable about the city as well as the main attraction (for me anyway)...the food! He walked us through downtown San Antonio pointing out places and facts that even I didn't know as a resident. A unique part of the experience was getting to meet some of the chefs, proof that SA Food Tours goes out of their way to create relationships with local restaurants. One stop even gave us a complimentary cocktail! Whether you're from out of town or a local, you'll not want to miss this experience. You might even find a new favorite restaurant out of it! This has been one of my favorite experiences as a San Antonio foodie! SA Food Tours is for everyone: the newbie, the foodie, the tourist, or the native San Antonian. During the five stops on the tour, we learned the history of each stop, as well as places along the way. Although the Riverwalk is a huge draw for tourists, the tour highlights the awesome places that are downtown that stay away from the touristy side and focus on the quality of the food and service. There are some things I should mention, for those who might need to consider some things. There is quite a bit of walking. The tour states that it's about 1.5 miles of walking, but that's only during the tour...you still have to find your way back to your parking spot! For us, that added another mile to the walk. It wasn't an issue for us, but it might be for some who have limited mobility. Also, it is definitely not vegetarian/vegan friendly, currently. If you are a strict vegetarian or vegan, you'd miss out on many of the features on this tour. The sandwich at Ocho, the shrimp and grits at Luke, and the meats (and cheese if you're vegan) at Nectar. For the price, it probably wouldn't be worth it to go and skip the meat dishes. That being said, I would still recommend this tour to anyone and everyone! I loved hearing about the history of things around SA, as well as how we are shaping the future! This is a very new tour, and it sounds like they will be expanding in other areas (like Southtown)! I'm excited to see how this business continues to grow. read more

As a foodie, the moment I heard about SA Food Tours, I was stoked! I live in SA but there are so many places to eat/drink at and visit in SA that I've never heard of or been to. The places on the tour, were places I've ALWAYS wanted to visit, so this tour was the perfect way to knock a few out in one afternoon. Michael was my guide, he was pretty awesome and insightful. Not only did I get the opportunity to eat really awesome food, I learned things about San Antonio, I didn't know. It was fun to walk from place to place as one was able to take in and enjoy the sights in the downtown area. I had the priviledge of meeting new people and sharing the love of food with them! I had so much fun on the food tour! The food was great also. I've gone on other food tours before while I was on vacation and I wasn't sure what to expect since I'm from San Antonio. I seriously feel like I've grown to love my city so much more!! I learned a ton about the history as well as how the city is currently changing. Our first stop was a lovely romantic Cuban place where we had an amazing Cuban sandwich, we followed that with some amazing creole cuisine and a French dessert. Wow! My wife and I have lived in San Antonio three years and boy have we been missing out. Jordan, our tour guide, showed us the beautiful buildings and designs in downtown. All the while tantalizing our taste buds with delicious food. My wife and I now have some new restaurants that the food tour exposed us to that we are eager to return to. Great variety of food, great views, chiefs come out of the kitchen and gave the tour a warm welcome, and great history shared by Jordan. One heads up is that the parking area recommended by SA Food Tour is about 10 minutes away from the start location. I only mentioned that because I didn't know that prior to arriving and the SA Food Tour tries to start at a prompt time. So, little stressful. Besides that everything was superb and Jordan and his team are doing a good thing. A good thing for the customers and a good thing for San Antonio. read more

I throughly enjoyed every minute of this walking food tour! We started the tour at The Ocho restaurant north on the riverwalk and sampled Cuban Slider Sandwiches. After that we walked to our next destination Lüke. While we walked Jordan had very interesting things to say about San Antonio and the various landmarks we passed. Lüke was easily my favorite restaurant on the tour. They started us off with their version of a French 75 (amazing), bread and butter, and then the best shrimp and grits I've ever had! Next stop was a French bistro for creme brûlée. Then a really funky wine shop with AMAZING charcuterie boards! We sample some great cheeses, meats, paté and honey. By this time we were completely stuffed and headed to our final destination which ends downtown, close to the Alamo, where we ate table-side made guacamole. I loved ever minute of the tour. The good was great and the tour of the city was fun. I totally recommend this! read more

The tour was awesome! Not only do you get to try amazing food, but the tour guides are friendly, welcoming and provided some great history lessons while we were walking downtown. I loved the ambience at Ocho to begin, the tasty shrimp and grits with the surprise drink (delish!) at Luke's, the different cheeses, desserts and delicious guacamole throughout the tour. I definitely recommend going, even if you're like me and have lived in SA for a while and don't do very many "touristy" things...this is a nice activity to enjoy parts of SA you may have never experienced before, eat some delicious food with great company, and find some hidden gems downtown! read more

I've lived in San Antonio for almost four years and we went to places I've never heard of before. It was so delicious. I'm definitely checking out Ocho for brunch sometime. I went as a group, a group that was so big we had to split into two groups. They managed us well and from what I heard from the coordinator they were responsive on the phone. A really fun way to see San Antonio. Instead of the Tex-Mex you expect, you'll get a fairly eclectic mix of lots of different cuisines. The length of the tour is just about perfect for the amount of food: although you'll do some walking between stops, the distance is right so that you can work off some of the last meal before reaching your next destination. In the meantime, you'll see some of the big San Antonio highlights and the tour guides really know their stuff. Would go again! read more
