The ambiance is not fancy, very chill, but the food was great. I ordered the Sweetheart Roll and it came so cute, shaped like hearts! The flavor was great and the portions were as well. To drink I wasn't expecting them to have espresso martinis but I asked... and they did!! And I will add they were delicious!! Overall, great experience here. This restaurant not accessible without using the stairs. Enter the bar and go up to the restaurant. The stairs are fine. Not too skinny like many in the keys. The staff is super nice and quite eager to accommodate. I was down during Fantasy Fest and this was off the beaten path so it was not too busy. I ordered a mojito. Immediately the waitress asked if I liked sweet or not. I said not and the drink was perfect. The mint was muddled correctly; it was not beat to a pulp. The beef salad was tasty. I've had better but everything was fresh I ordered a 4 (Thai spicy) and it had a little heat but not a number 4. I am a tough sell on beef salad because it's my favorite and I've had many epic renditions. This was about a 7 of 10. More spice would have made it an 8. Crushed roasted rice would have made it a 9. The pad Thai was outstanding. I hope they didn't just get lucky, because it's in my top 5 best ever. The lobster was extremely fresh...It called me nasty names every time I bit into it. Typical for Fantasy Fest. It was naturally sweet and tender and went with the main dish better than I'd imagined. The ambiance is great anywhere eating outside in the keys if you love an island feel. The mesh chairs are uncomfortable. Before I could tell the waitress she brought me a nice wooden chair that was great. I caught a glimpse of the dining area inside and it looked much nicer than the deck. It might be more appropriate for date night. I went here after a TikTok recommendation. The lobster pad Thai is one of the most popular items and the pad Thai was pretty solid but the lobster was a bit tough. We also got the crab Rangoon which was some of the best we've ever had. We heard from locals that it has some of the best sushi in Key West but unfortunately we didn't get any. We will go back. Food was disappointing from the start. If this is what people think good Thai food is, clearly they haven't had authentic Thai food. We ordered seafood tom yum noodle soup and pad thai. The tom yum broth was bland and unseasoned with boiled seafood tossed on top without flavor. The pad thai tasted like noodles mixed with sugar, peanut sauce, and a bit of soy sauce. Easily the worst tasting pad thai we've had. Service was strange. We had barely sat down for a minute before the staff seemed annoyed we weren't ready to order. When we asked for more time the server sighed and walked off. Meanwhile, we watched them being friendly and talkative with other tables, but with us the demeanor was cold and dismissive. The bill was the final straw. Our total was $49 and we handed the server $50. Instead of bringing change, the server stood there, looked at us, and asked "what about the tip." We told them we planned on leaving it on the table as we were still getting our change in order. We've eaten out countless times and never had a server demand a tip like that. For food and service this bad, the audacity was unreal. TLDR: Bad food, rude service, and pushy about tips. Not worth it. read more

Our experience for lunch is not bad. Dinner is a bit expensive. The restaurant is at the second floor elevated for a view to the inner bay. Parking is available at the boat marina. We got two bento box for the lunch. The lunch box is the way to go. The bento box has sashimi, nigiri, California roll, fried roll, seaweed salad. We got the tempura and the poke. The tempura is below average. The poke is tuna poke. Food is good enough quantities. They are not spectacular but deliver the need. Sashimi is three different fish. Service is a bit slow. We found Thai island when we were getting ready to leave Key West. It's on the second level and the restaurant gives a very different ambiance than the bar below it. Best eats in Key west! Our charter captain recommended this place because they would cook our fish we caught. Upon entering the restaurant, We were immediately greeted by a smiling face and cold waters. Once sat, our server recommended the different ways they could cook the fish. We took their recommendation and are so happy we did. Food came out in under 10 minutes and was everything you could ever want. There was fried fish, a special key west roll and a light sear. But their menu was expansive, had every sort of Asian food you could want and more. On top of the food being delicious, our glasses were always kept full, the servers were so kind and very quick. The curry is delicious! I got the pork curry, it's mostly veggies and a perfect serving for one. My meal came out quick and did I say the curry is delicious! I had the great good fortune of having my company send me to Key West, FL to conduct work for the next couple weeks!! My first lunch was Thai food at Thai Island restaurant. It was just a 10 minute walk from my hotel. I like Thai food and couldn't resist trying Thai Island's offerings. I ordered my favorite Thai dish, pineapple fried rice with chicken. If anyone is out there following me, you probably know that I enjoy spicy food. So, it shouldn't surprise you to know that I ordered my meal "Thai Hot". When the server heard me say that she said oh no! Thai Hot is very hot! That is 5 star hot, I will give you 4 star hot. I let her talk me in to having only 4 star hot. That was a disappointment. Don't get me wrong, the dish was very tasty and NOT disappointing at all. I was disappointed with the spice level. I told my server that the food was very tasty but it wasn't hot! I promised to order Thai Hot on my next visit and she said ok. The restaurant was very clean and there were two seating areas inside and one outside under a cover to protect against the Key West sunshine. Just a quick tip... for those that have not been to Thai Island... their restaurant is above the bar. So, when you enter the bar door there is a stairway leading up to the restaurant. As soon as our flight landed, we walked into the Circa 1970's airport reception terminal only to ask Tina, a local rental car agent where to find a good meal? With a big smile and an expedient answer, we were told of all the places be sure to go to Thai Island restaurant and sushi bar. After discovering a drought of adequate dining in all of Key West, we did in fact take that advice and boy were we glad we did! We discovered a locals hotspot with fantastic food and outdoor ambience down by the boat dock to rival the best of such dining.
