    Khao Soi July 13, 2025 IG: @pharmingfoodies
    Joyce Y.

David and I stopped by Thai American today at the recommendation of a coworker. We are always on the hunt for good Thai restaurants as it's our favorite food! As an appetizer we ordered the Duck Roll, David got the Pad Thai and I got the Khao Soi. We came on a Saturday around 1 pm and parking was easy to find, and there were plenty of seats inside available. Duck Roll: This one had me at roti. Two rolls included, about the size of a sushi hand roll. Tasty, but for $12 I might have liked less radish/carrot decor on my plate (which was most of the plate) and more rolls. Pad Thai: Normally David goes for the drunken noodle, but seeing how several other reviews mentioned it was the best pad Thai ever, we had to try! The balance of sweet and salty was on the nail with this one. Portion size is HUGE (be warned, David called it a "David size portion"). They do use skinny noodles and I prefer the typical wide pad thai noodles (but maybe the skinny noodles is how the real places do it). The beef was a bit dry, but we have truly yet to come across a pad thai that gets it all right. The sauce flavor alone was probably one of the best we've had. Khao Soi: Right away I appreciated that they put the crispy topping ON THE SIDE. GENIUS. Why did I never think of that? Every Khao Soi I've ever ordered had the topping served on top and would always get soggy as you eat. I was able to top off each bite with that extra crunch. The spice level was served medium, and usually I do ask if they can make it mild but today I didn't. The spice level was tolerable (for a spice noob) but I was definitely taking sips of David's thai iced coffee. The chicken was also tender and I actually liked how it was in bite sized pieces (sometimes they just serve the whole drumstick). We finished off with the mango sticky rice (I'm a sucker for different colored rice and this one was blue!). While presented beautifully, I'd say the taste was average. I appreciated that the rice wasn't too sweet. Overall, I think David won the dish battle on this one. The staff were nice and I appreciated the big jug of water at the beginning so we didn't need refills. Would come back again to try their Panang curry which also looked amazing!

Som tum gai yang was decent but required everything mixed together. The chicken was grilled perfectly and came with spicy papaya salad and tamarind sauce. I didn't like the tamarind sauce but the papaya salad was by far the best part. Spicy though not good by itself, combined together it's fantastic. It's not something I would order again. I'll stick with the noodle dishes. Service was great. Refills were always coming and checked in throughout the meal.

I happened to be in the area for work and searched "vegan food near me"--so glad this place popped up. Five stars! The ambience is super cute and comfortable, perfect for grabbing lunch or even taking a meeting (which I did!). The lunch options were amazing, and the curry puff was the standout--highly, highly recommend. I could've easily eaten three or four, but had to save room for my main dish.

Quite possibly the best Thai food in the entire DMV. My mother in law is from Thailand so I really love good authentic Thai food and this hits the mark. The flavors, the quality and prices can't be beat! Service is on point and they really treat you like family here. Decor is great and they have a full bar as well. You will not be disappointed with Thai Meric !!!!!

My husband loves Thai food, so we had to visit. Found the eatery sandwiched between other stores, no problem. Parking was plentiful. Hostess seated us promptly. The waitress quickly brought our drinks. We shared the pork steamed dumplings which were really good. I had the shrimp Pad Thai. So good! And so much I couldn't finish. My husband the Beef Street fried rice. Very tasty. Our friend had Prik Khing which was tasty and spicy. Servings were generous and we were all very happy. Atmosphere was very nice. Waitress was attentive and courteous. Would definitely return the next time I am in the area. Highly recommended you visit.

Was in Frederick, Maryland Tuesday afternoon picking up hearing aids and finished up right around 5 PM... Just in time to wade out into the Route 15 in rush-hour. Decided to eat dinner in Frederick before we went home to Gettysburg in order to miss the evening rush-hour traffic northbound on Route 15. Tried this Thai restaurant for the first time arriving about 5:30 PM where we were one of just a few dining parties. My wife had the drunken noodles with pork, which she said was as good as she's ever had anywhere.... So we can give that menu item 5 stars. We had the Calamari appetizer and it was absolutely delicious, also worthy of five stars.....and a big plus that it was half price on the early bird menu. I ordered the Stir Fry Delight... Chicken, bell peppers, onions, scallions, carrots, and cashews, with jasmine rice. This dish came with a rather heavy red sauce, which was OK but not my favorite. The chunks of chicken were breaded and fried and some of the large chunks were too hard to cut with a fork... had to use my pocket knife.....only three stars for this entree. My wife had iced tea I had a Michelob Ultra (also part of a 2 for one deal during happy hour) The service was quite good, and the restaurant was very clean and spacious. I would have awarded five stars overall if I had like the stirfry better and if there wasn't a $2.00 surcharge for the pork on the drunken noodles. The bill including tax and tip came to about $60 for the food and drinks described above. But all in all very good food and a pleasant dining experience.

Husband was craving Thai food and Thai Meric was just around the corner of where we were. Pros -The restaurant was beautifully decorated that my kids thought of taking a photoshoot in the front. LOL -The space was quaint but spacious and clean -They do have a bar area where you can sit and hang out -The service was very attentive, friendly, and accommodating -Kids menu! Just smaller portions of some of the common Thai dishes -Food was delicious and presented in a lovely way! The kids and I adored the heart shaped rice. What a nice touch! I had the green curry and it was spiced perfectly, not too overwhelming. My son loved the pineapple fried rice and ate majority of his plate. My husband ordered a duck dish and he was very pleased. He said the duck was crispy and not soggy. -Ordered the lycheetini and a bourbon drink. Both were very delicious -Plenty of parking in the lot Would love to visit Thai Meric again!!

5* no words can replace the experience you'll get introducing their menu options to the papillae on your tongue. Great food , people and average / cute interior. Parking is not too plentiful, but close enough to the location.

Hidden gem in Frederick! My hubby and I visited this spot on a Sunday at opening of 12pm. The inside has a really nice vibe. We were immediately greeted and seated. My hubby ordered the chicken pad this and I the crust chicken w steam rice. We also had the doing tool (we probably could've eaten 20 of them, lol)! Great place, great food and service!

Delicious food & great service! We came in a big group for our friends' engagement dinner, and all of our food still came in a timely manner. The staff was super friendly and helpful! Compared to other Thai restaurants in HoCo & MoCo and another one I've been to in Frederick County, I will say that the portions are on the smaller side. For example, the curry puff appetizer only came with 2 pieces (whereas other Thai places I go to, the curry puff comes with 4 pieces). We were surprised when it came out with only 2, so we had to order another one to be able to share between 5 of us at one end of the table. Same with the calamari we ordered for our side of the table, it came in a tiny metal fry bucket so we also had to order another one of this as well. Other than the small portions, everyone enjoyed their entrees, and the desserts were yummy!

    Smoked Old Fashioned

Whole Rockfish and Patrick were great. Happy hour Old Fashioned and 1/2 bottles is a no brainer. Service great. Food Great. Drinks fantastic. Try a BK Old Fasioned

Shrimp Panang Curry had so much flavor & was a good portion size. They even brought the rice in a heart shape which was so cute.

I liked the addition of panko breadcrumbs for crunch, but I wish the imitation crab meat had been shredded more finely for better texture. For my entree, I ordered the Spicy Basil Crispy Duck (added $1 for Thai spicy). They definitely delivered on the spicy level, but the duck itself was not crispy. It came with rice and bell peppers and basil. The sushi tasted fresh, which was good. Service could use some improvement. We had to ask for small bowls for soy sauce, and when we requested a dessert menu to celebrate the birthday, we were told the kitchen had already closed. It would have been nice if our server had given us a heads up before the kitchen closed. The ambiance is cozy. It almost feels like dining in someone's house. They had Halloween decorations up and murals of historic Frederick painted on the walls. They also have a private parking lot, which made it convenient. Overall, food was good, but a little more attentiveness from the staff would've made the experience even better.

One of the staffs came to us and asked if we were ever served yet after like 10 minutes of receiving our menus. It took them a while to refill my water; I had to ask for a refill. Food came out fairly quickly. 5.5/10 Food Presentation: Everything we had was presented very beautifully. 10/10 Food Taste: *Dumpling Soup - Pretty good. Tasted homemade. 8/10 *Trio Tempura - Bland, but the tempura dipping sauce was good. I like the fried parts, nice and crunchy. 5/10 *Squid Leg Karaage - Pretty good too. Again, I like the fried part, and the squid was tender and soft. The sauce was good too. I just wished the squid had more flavor. 7/10 *Ube Fries - Very bland, but the fried part is good. Texture was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. 6/10 *Hokkaido Scallop Ceviche - Had a very pungent fish sauce smell, but the taste of everything together was alright. I like the pickled onions. There just wasn't a "wow" factor to this dish. 6/10 *Chor Muang - Strong peanut smell, texture of the dough is like mochi. Taste was very underwhelming. For such a beautifully presented dish, it was lacking so much flavor. 3/10 *Lemon Drop Martini and Mango Sticky Rice Cocktail - Sweet but very strong. 5.7/10 Ambience: This place is so aesthetically pleasing, the lights, flower decor, and colors were so beautiful!! 10/10 I honestly wouldn't come here again. Yes, the decor is beautiful and food presentation is gorgeous, but the food was very mediocre. However, this place was on my list to try, and I'm very glad I was able to eat here. Pork Belly: Although the pork itself was fatty and tender, and a bigger piece than we expected, although waaaaay too much cabbage and a little too sweet from the pineapple for my taste. Lazy Shack and Lazy Rainbow: LOVED these rolls! We were actually impressed by how fresh the fish was?? And the amount and texture of the rice was on point. Multiple tables next to us got the Lazy Rainbow so it seems like a popular one to get. We also appreciated the real crab that they used (although I may have gotten the smallest piece of shell in my Lazy Shack, but it was so good I didn't even care). Lazy Spaghetti: Basically like a massamun beef curry and spaghetti fusion. On the tad spicy side for me. Was really creamy and the sauce to spaghetti ratio was a little heavy (on the sauce side) that I wish there was more spaghetti to soak it up.
