I've come here a long time ago and they have definitely upped the menu and decor to become an upscale casual (is that a category?) thai restaurant with modern decor and table service. They offer all the common curries, noodles, and salads that you would find in most thai places in the area. Everything is served gracefully on china, with banana leaves on the plates, modern cutlery and linen napkins. I say this because it's definitely NOT the place where you have food piled high on a styrofoam plate with dusty wood carvings covering the walls, lol. I met up with a friend and her mother for lunch. They were very accomodating for us to sit in her wheelchair comfortably. They had a seasonal menu that included a pumpkin curry- I was very curious and tried it- it was somewhat like a panang curry with chunks of sauteed pumpkin and probably a pumpkin puree in the sauce. I was pleasantly surprised. (especially as a person who can't stand the overabundance of "pumpkin spice" foods to be found around the Thanksgiving season) Portion size was for lunch with an ice cream scoop size of white rice. (I'm not a huge consumer of rice, but I'd prefer a little bit more to absorb the yummy sauce) Service was great- very professional and prompt. So it's a great place to have lunch with friends, family, or business colleagues. Hopefully will be back soon! read more

WOW. cute as a bug, great vibe. really good food. and, contrary to what i've read in other reviews, the service, at least for our visit, was first rate. little hard to find -- follow directions from the YELP app and you'll drive in circles for hours. the address is on EL CAMINO REAL but the restaurant is tucked in the shopping center on the backside of McDONALD's between JERSEY MIKES and KC's TANDOOR. ordered two lunch specials (entree, rice, salad, soup and two "egg rolls") -- sized so lunch is affordable and filling. the PANANG CURRY (spice level 8) was nice and warm with amazing flavor. one of the better versions i've had. my mom's DRUNKEN NOODLES dish was also most excellent. highly recommended. read more

OK, I've wanted to try Thai Society the last couple times my work buddies and I hit Jersey Mike's for lunch. Today we diverted for some Thai food. We arrived just after 1 pm and must have just missed the lunch rush because there weren't a lot of people there. Strange, because I've seen the place jamming before. Must be a short lunch rush in Encinitas. All three of us ordered lunch specials, which include an entree, soup, salad and spring roll. My favorite part of the whole meal was the soup broth. I could have used some more vegetables in it though - all I could find in my soup was a thin slice of mushroom. For my entree I ordered the Pad Thai, which is my measuring stick for Thai restaurants. It is always the first dish I try. I had great hopes for my Pad Thai from Thai Society, but it was just average. Too oily, noodles clumped together, not enough tofu, egg and veggies. Tasted fine, but it was average trending toward mildly disappointing. One of my friends ordered the yellow curry, which he liked, but the portion size was tiny. My other friend ordered the drunken noodles, which he said he liked, but I didn't hear any raves beyond it was "good". I'll try Thai Society again, but on my first visit, I was fine with it, but not blown away. read more

I have been going to Thailand since the mid 1980's and have probably been to Thailand 50-75 times so I am particularly picky about my Thai food -- there is too much American-ized Thai food in San Diego. Thai Society epitomizes the "Thai experience" -- from the moment you walk in and are greeted by their kind and gentle staff, to being greeted by the owner Kay, to the presentation and flavors of the dishes, and then end of a wonderful meal and the sensation of having just enjoyed a memorable experience embracing the Thai culture. *update! Came here for dinner, it was busy but service was relatively quick and the Panang curry was delicious! Love trying new things here! I haven't been to many Thai cuisine restaurants in this area, but this one is at the top of my list. My go-to lunch dish is the see-ew noodle: egg noodles with egg, broccoli, and black bean sauce. I usually go for tofu, but it's also good with chicken! It's hard to mess this dish up, and Thai Society keeps it simple and consistently tasty. My mom got the assorted veggies wok dish with pork. She liked it, although noted it was a little salty. This time we also got the crispy spring rolls - not greasy, didn't have onions, delicious! Service was a little slow but pleasant. Food is ok just ok. Service is terrible, the lady up front is rude and has 0 customer service skills. I went in there for a lunch special I wasn't informed that the soup was only for dine in not for take out, it wasn't stated anywhere on the menu or online. I got my order, No utensils or napkins but there was a hair in my food. Not coming back or recommending this place. read more

I don't recommend this place. I love Thai food. But this Thai Society needs to learn how Prep plates. I order a Sea food coconut soup and wasn't that good. All it had was mushrooms and 5 shrimp, no order vegetable. Serve with a tiny plastic spoon. Sorry but your losing a customer. read more

I've eaten at Thai Society a bunch over the 5 years that I've lived in the Encinitas/La Costa area. It's consistently pretty good. It's usually quick if you need to pick up an order to take home. The waiters are typically friendly when you dine in and the ambiance is quite nice. The food is just pretty good. It's not something you're going to go crazy for, but it'll get the job done if you're over at Target and need to have a bite. I've got a standard Thai Food rotation that I stick to: Drunken Noodle, Pad See Ew Noodle, Pad Woon Sen Noodle (if they have it), and massaman/green/panang curry. I've all of the standards and they're decent. Bottom line, I don't think Thai Society is my favorite Thai spot, but it'll work just fine when we need it. read more

I ordered one of the yellow curries and the flavor was ok. The pork meat was very chewy. I wasn't super satisfied and they gave me a very tiny portion curry and rice. I get that it's in Encinitas but it definitely wasn't worth almost $20. read more

The food is great but I don't like to be served in paper plates, all the juices are absorbed by the cardboard and plastic will be worse, the dishwasher sanitize the plates why they stop good service read more

I liked this place a lot. Got their lunch special which included salad and a soup which was great. Only remember to take a picture of my soup. Sorry lol the pad Thai wasnt sweet (which I don't like). It had great flavor. I got the white rice (for 1.25 or something like that extra) which taste legit Thai. It's made with the banana leave and everything. I have tried this spot a few times because it's closest to where I live. I just don't love it. I was craving shrimp pad Thai so I ordered it to go. Consistently good Thai food. I usually get the yellow curry with shrimp spicy #5 The chicken wings are also very good. Thai tea can be somewhat inconsistent but it's always good regardless. Their yellow curry though is usually a step up form the other competitors because it's more of a traditional curry consistency rather than a soup. This review is for their lunch menu. Monday thru Friday they have lunch specials which include a rice or noddle dish, side salad, 2 pieces of spinach wonton and a curry soup. With chicken it was $10. A great price but the entree itself was a bit small. I liked that the restaurant was clean and had plenty of parking spots in the lot. Also during the lunch rush, our food literally came out 5 minutes after we ordered. A great place to come if you need to be in and out quickly. It's not the best Thai food I've had but it was still tasty. Service was prompt but one of the ladies was not very friendly and appeared to be bothered when we asked for things. Overall it could be a 5 star place if they give better portions and have their workers be more friendly towards customers. read more

Been to this place twice and think the food is adequate. My main complaint is the price to value of the food. The taste is okay and the portions are small for what they charge. I expect such small servings in a fancy Thai place. When I ordered a curry dish and did not want any meat, seafood, or tofu in the dish, I thought extra veggies would be in the dish. Instead, I got some soupy curry. The place is small but the service is nice. The Thai coffee and tea are good here though. read more

The girls that work here are super sweet! We ordered 2 lunch specials, the Phad Thai (spice level 5) and Yellow Curry (level 10). Both dishes were very good, and the right level of spice. They have a lunch special mon-fri 11-3 and the chicken entree was only $8. Came with soup, salad, wonton and the lunch entree with white rice Tom kha soup was OK. The broth was outstanding. I great combo of coconut and lime for a nice well round flavor that engulfed every taste buds. The veggies in the broth were pretty disappointing. It was frozen peas and carrots and white mushroom. Salad was a romaine, purple kale and red cabbage blend with a peanut sauce dressing. Wonton was pretty much just the fried wrapper. There was a spinach looking blend the size of a dime in the middle. Not exactly sure what it is cause it was too small to taste. Ginger chicken had onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, celery, carrot and big chunks of ginger. The ginger chucks were so big that a few time the flavor made my face feel like it would explode. Not in a good way. I ordered an 8 out of 10 on the spicy scale and it seemed more like a 6 to me. Otherwise the dish was actually really tasty. I just ate around the ginger and really enjoyed the fresh wok'd veggies and all white meat chicken. It was juicy and tender. Service wasn't overly attentive or friendly but they were fast, worked very hard and my water was filled. I actually prefer this over the exaggerated doting type service. I would def go back. Dinner might have slightly better quality. They seemed to crank out the plates at lunch. read more

I went here with some reservation as it was rated 3.5 stars on Yelp. Went it and was greeted by pleasant staff to pick a spot. Small strip mall type place but decently decorated (in my opinion). Waiter came over and we ordered 1 appetizer (Triangle) and 1 plate (Pra-ram). The waiter suggested to us to ask for less sauce on the Pra-ram and if we felt it wasn't enough he would bring more of the sauce. We took his suggestion and ordered with less sauce. Worked out perfectly, appetizer was great and main dish(Pra-ram) was terrific. Thai tea was great. All in all a very nice meal, friendly helpful waitstaff, decent decor, food was really good. read more

I like this restaurant interior and plates. It's very cool. Whenever I go to Thai restaurant, there is always old-fashioned interior. However Thai Society is always cool. Lunch special is great too. I usually order A drunken noodle with shrimp. It came out with 4pc shrimp. It's very small portion, but it was fresh. Lunch special comes out main food with salad, soup and 1pc egg roll. What a fortuitous discovery! Had just finished shopping at Home Depot across the street when we stumbled upon Thai Society. So glad that we did. Small strip mall restaurant. Seated within minutes on a Friday night. The food is oh so good! For starters we had satay chicken and the thom kah soup. Good sizes and the flavor of the soup was amazing. Followed up with a Thai salad and a chicken dish wokked with eggplant and other yummy vegetables. Very pleased and will return again. read more

Still the best Thai food I've experienced in all of San Diego and I have tried them all all over north county and south. High quality ingredients and flavorful like genuine Thai food. I love spicy and everything on the menu but my family is much pickier and Thai society accommodates everyones tastes with their spice levels and their variety of food that even picky eaters will still like. They also have like a hidden menu like if they had a special menu item on one occasion that isn't on the regular menu or for example one of my family members favorite, ramen with tempora shrimp, if you just ask for it again and if they have the ingredients they make it special for me every time. This review is purely for the kindness and awareness that the owner exemplifies for its customers and staff. Someone came into this business NOT wearing a mask. The owner graciously told them to wear one but still got an earful/tantrum from the prospective customer. Instead of giving in and easily taking some, I'm sure, much needed money for an order, she held strong and refused to serve him. That's the kind of business owner I want to see across this country.
