I stopped by after the lunch rush on a Monday. I had called ahead and ordered the Singapore Noodles with chicken. The restaurant space is small and carry out and cash only (minus one star, glad I had cash!). The food was ready exactly when the owner said it would be. I sat outside in the shade next to the restaurant. Coming from the SF Bay Area, my Thai food bar is high. This place matched or exceeded it. Fresh and flavorful, huge portion, and a good value. We were on our way home from touring wedding venues and stopped at Thaifoon for some delicious food! Pan makes everything fresh and uses her family recipes. She makes everything by hand and buys all her ingredients fresh. If you are wanting some true ethnic Thai food, you NEED to stop by her little place. I keep reading sporadic reviews about Pan's food at Thaifoon. Pan is the owner and the chef, not only is she a riot to speak with, but she also makes very tasty, healthy food. Her style is her own and isn't going to look like all the Thai places you all have visited across the many trips you take to places you find meaningful. She uses fresh vegetables in season, good cuts of meat, mindful ingredients, and tons of Love. She makes her own peanut sauce, although a little sweet sometimes, and it's the best peanut sauce I've ever had. My go to's: Pad Thai (chicken or veggie) with less sauce (can always ask for more on the side), Pad See Ew or Pad Key Mow -- drunken noodles, and I ask for a peanut sauce on the side. She isn't Vietnamese and I wouldn't order anything other than Thai from her, even if it's on the menu. She trained in a microbiotic cooking school in Bangkok. She actually knows what she's doing and has a lot of fun doing it. Pan inspires me every time I visit and her food is on average a 4.5/5. I gave this place a second chance after my first disappointing experience. First time I ordered Pad Thai to go, there was nothing Pad Thai about it, very soupy and not the right noodles. This second time, I ordered "steak pho" and was left even more dissatisfied than the first time :( $16 dollars for this?? Never again. I called in for take-out massamum curry with tofu and vegetables. She said it'd be 25 min. She never mentioned it was a cash only business and only when I got there did I see the cash only signs. She screams a lot and said it wasn't ready. I had to drive to find an ATM 2 blocks away. It's just a tiny place, no tables, just a counter. There was a steady stream of customers so I thought the food would make up for the service- but the curry just tasted like one of those curry cubes you get, not much coconut milk/cream to speak of, no peanuts at all. It wasn't good. I got a Thai iced tea for my husband and he said it was powdery and sickly sweet so he didn't even drink it. I would try somewhere else if I were looking for Thai food. read more

I'm not sure how you give this place more than 3 stars unless you've never had legitimate thai food. The phad thai taste like it has a ketchup base. I will have to say the fresh rolls are pretty good, regarding the size. When I was given my sauce for the fresh rolls it were still frozen. read more

I'm sorry this has to be such a poor review, as it is a small hole-in-the-wall place and the chefs are incredibly fun people. The first time I tried this place I got horribly sick after the meal. There was something a little off about the flavor of the sauce, and my stomach couldn't handle whatever was going on at all. Prior to a staff lunch a co-worker exclaimed their love for this place and so the lunch was ordered from there. I decided to go ahead and give it a second try, ordering something very different. This time the meal was bland and had zero heat to it at all. Out of 4 of us who ate from there that day two of us ended up getting sick from our food. 2 out of 2 visits to this place being horrible I won't ever go back. Just to emphasize how bad this is, I haven't ever gotten sick from any other restaurant in Prescott, or from anywhere else for many many years. read more

Guys. You HAVE to go here if you're in the Prescott area! There are a few Thai places I've tried within the area but nothing compares to Pen Pen's cooking. The person that owns this place is the sweetest gal and everything is homemade. Since that's the case, it does that a lot longer than normal to make the food. My suggestion? Call the order in. Usually it would take 20-25 minutes, so that's a solid drive to the restaurant. This is definitely not a sit-down restaurant, everything is take out so keep that in mind. Lastly, she does take annual vacation trips (or so I've heard) during the summer. If you come during the summer months, this business has NOT CLOSED- she simply takes vacation days (and she is the only one running the place). I was very confused during those months so I hope this tip helps someone out! read more

This was hands down the most disgusting so called Thai food we have ever had. If you like canned green beans covered in corn starch and a dash of bland curry, this is your place. The owner/chef was a character indeed. An attribute that would have been charming if the food was good. But it wasn't. It was cornstarch over white rice and not much else. She got our order wrong, making the not spicy dish the spicy one and Vice versa and then had the nerve to tell us she wasn't going to charge us extra for the rice to temper the spice. (Little did we know since we hadn't opened the food yet that rice is pretty much all we got.) She pretended to tap the order into her calculator but when she saw us with forty dollars in our hand she said the total was forty. It seemed a little steep for two curries and two spring rolls and we were told we had to choose peanut OR the sweet sauce for the spring rolls but not both. When we got the food home it was all rice and corn starch and canned and frozen veggies. Imagine cafeteria Thai food. Not even airplane food quality back when they served airplane food. Look, the chef is very sweet, we appreciated the great attitude. However, good Thai food, this is not. If you have any experience and/or standards for Thai food, skip it for sure. It may be the best (or one of the only) options in Prescott, but it is simply not good at all. The Tom Ka was absolutely like no other we have had before, honestly pretty disgusting. My girlfriend asked if was overcooked greasy top ramen broth with a splash of coconut. Phad Thai was over the top peanut sauce flavor. Druken noodles were very boring, weak flavor. I would equate the flavor/quality of the food to what I would expect in a mall food court buffet style at best. At nearly $15 an entree, go somewhere else for sure. read more

After receiving a recommendation from a local 4 years ago, we only eat Thai food lovingly made by Pan here at Taifoon. No comparison to the others we have tried! We live in Phoenix and summer in Prescott and we look forward to our summer time here to enjoy Pan's cooking. Our visitors from Phoenix LOVE it and request it every time. The yellow curry with tofu is EXCELLENT and I am partial to any of the dishes with peanut sauce. I also love the Evil Jungle Prince and would recommend getting that a tad spicier than medium. This restaurant was one of the worst places Ive been to while visiting Prescott. The owner of the restaurant was rude to my kids and the orders took forever. It was overpriced and undercooked. I spent $20 on one order alone but she didnt give a reciept for the order so I couldnt tell you the overall total spent other than it was overpriced. Thaifoon used to have a Scottsdale location, but then one day, when I went to order carryout, I discovered it had closed. What a shame. This was one of my favorite restaurants. I was especially disappointed because Phoenix-area restaurants, on average, are some of the most boring, unoriginal, and bland that I've ever encountered. 99% of the food at 99% of the restaurants around here is bland, uninspiring, flavorless, and forgettable in every way. The "salads" are nothing but overpriced boxes of lettuce, and salad dressing is as rare as a UFO sighting. Chicken at most Phoenix restaurants tastes like flavorless wood with only a lemon wedge on the side. It's like the customers demand bland, boring food, and if the food isn't bland and boring enough, they file a complaint. I do miss Thaifoon's, though, and I wish it would return to Scottsdale. read more
