First time trying the goat curry, and wow -- absolutely amazing. No gamey flavor at all, just pure rich flavor and perfectly cooked. You can tell a lot of care goes into the food here. The chicken tikka masala was outstanding as well. The seasoning and flavor were spot on, with just a slight hint of heat that blended perfectly without overpowering the dish. Even the rice was cooked perfectly to complement the chicken and sauce. The atmosphere is awesome, and everyone there is genuinely kind and happy to help. This place is mediocre at best. The food was kind of bland and didn't have any spice at all. The prices are also very steep for the portion received. But the thing that bugged me the most was that they have the audacity to charge $25-30+ for curry dishes, yet charge you additional if you want rice. I don't know about you, but curry is usually eaten with rice. The service was also terrible. They staff were not attentive at all, despite the restaurant not being very busy. Our water cups sat empty for a while before we had to ask for refills. Then when we were ready for the check, we were brought another table's check. We sat there for a while after that, but no one came by so we had to flag down a random person to see if they could bring us the correct check. What a mess. We have been here several times. The food is OUTSTANDING & the service is always great too. My son & I have celiac disease & this is one of the few places we can eat safely at. The only thing that contains gluten is the naan bread so just let your server know that you need gluten free. Our gluten detection dog has always cleared everything as gluten free & we have never gotten sick. My favorite dish so far is the chicken makhni but the chicken vegetable curry was also really good. Be still my heart. I lived in Prescott 10 years ago and knew the original owners of this place, who I believe now live in PHX but have a stake in this place. During that time, it was an outstanding Indian restaurant that was always pretty busy. It's a huge place, very deep and has a wonderful outdoor patio area. I went with a group of about 20 people and some of them seemed to think the food was ok. I'll be honest, that was not my experience. I ordered chicken vindaloo. I asked for high spicy level and was asked 2 or 3, I said what is hottest and was told 3, so OK, let's do a 3. I have eaten extremely spicy food before and I usually use this as a kind of test for the kitchen. Oh and I ordered garlic naan bread. Naan bread was fantastic. Rice was ok. The chicken vindaloo was a total disaster. It looked the right color, but had zero heat and what I can only describe as a very bland and flat flavor profile, but it somehow managed to be extremely, (EXTREMELY) salty. I asked for some more heat, however they can do that and in a few minutes, I got a small metal pot with cold, but quite spicy sauce, which I added to the salt-laden chicken. No. Just no. What a mess and not cheap either. Not sure what is going on, but I was half expecting Gordon Ramsey to show up and tell us all to stop eating. It seems like the kitchen has lost their soul. Came here on a Monday night to have dinner. I'll be completely honest, I haven't had Indian food in over 20 years because of a bad experience years ago. I was absolutely surprised with how amazing every dish we had turned out. The service was very friendly, and the ambience is cute. There's dim lighting all around, cute little booths, and Indian music playing in the background. We got the chicken tikka masala , the spinach dish with cheese, garlic, naan, and jasmine rice, as well as a rice with turmeric, raisins, toasted almonds that was SO good. We mixed and matched different things together, and everything tasted so delicious and different with every thing that we mixed it with.. I have a new found love for indian food. I came here with my friend as a recommendation from a local boutique. The inside is small but quaint and very cute. They had an amazing guitarist playing for ambiance and it was quiet and candle lit. The waitress was nice and very prompt. We ordered the pesto naan, which was delicious and the portion is huge. Definitely worth the pricing. I wish we tried maybe the sampler as they're known for their cheese naan. I ordered the lamb biryani. They have a 5 scale spice and I should have ordered down, which probably reflects my rating. It was too spicy and I went off the waitresses recommendation. The lamb, however, was perfect. Very delicate and soft and delicious. The rice was also soft and delicious with larger chunks of veggies, which I like. My friend had the butter chicken and the portion was huge. The chicken was also very soft and crumbly. There was a lot of sauce and when I mixed it with the biryani, it subdued the spice, which was nice. The sides for our naan came out after we almost finished it, which was disappointing. Indian food in Arizona? Hell, yeah. It's amazing. We were warned that the restaurant looked Mexican, and I noticed the native American highlights on the exterior, but we pressed on. Inside there was a lot of Southwestern decor, but the Bollywood films on the TV reassured us. We were met by the most gracious and accommodating staff I've seen in years. I knew right away I wanted saag paneer (cheese cubes in a traditional sauce) and aloo gobi (cauliflower in a savory sauce). My Lady insisted on a nutty naan and chose a chicken masala. She also chose a Kendall Jackson Chardonnay , which surprised me, but really paired well with the flavors we had chosen. We asked for everything mild. I don't mind admitting I'm a wuss if it gets me a meal I enjoy. Even the rice was on point. The waitstaff, dressed like stagehands, worked together to deliver a seamless dining experience. No one owned the table, no ego controlled the experience. Everyone worked together to create the best meal in memory for both My Love and me. According to our hotel, this was one of 4 restaurants open during Christmas. At first we went to try IHOP but there were only two waiters and it seemed quite impossible to get a table and then get our order. We called before we came and they said the wait time was zero which was nice. It still took around 30 minutes to receive our food after we ordered even though it shouldn't have been rush hour as we came late afternoon. - Garlic Naan - Disappointing as there wasn't a lot of garlic flavor on the naan that wasn't chewy on the inside. It seemed like they just mashed some garlic powder on top of it. - Onion Naan - Slightly better even though it really is just diced onions sitting between the naan. Again, the naan didn't have its classy chewy flavor. - Saag Paneer - I think overall, their entrees have a bit too much dairy/butter in it which makes it very heavy and filling even though the dish's portion sizes are quite small. The spinach flavor was pretty good although not very memorable and the paneer didn't have enough cheese flavor on it. - Chicken Tikka Masala - My favorite entree between the two as the curry was pretty good, and very rich with flavor. I will say that the tandoori chicken was quite dry as it was baked in the oven before. For two people we definitely brought home a lot of the food. The only other thing I will say is that the service was kind of questionable as when they were taking our plates away, the utensils kept dropping on our table. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. It's a large and nicely decorated restaurant. I immediately smelled the wonder fragrances of Indian cooking. The server sat me quickly and took my drink order. The buffet seemed like the good value for the day at $22. Many different veggie and meat dishes. Everything tasted fresh and nicely seasoned. Tandoori chicken and Chicken Makhni were great. The Sag spinach was creamy and delicious. Fresh garlic naan bread was hot and flavorful. I finished up with the Kheer which is a creamy rice pudding in coconut milk. My friend had the Saag Paneer and said it's her absolute favorite. Nice portion size and we also ordered basmati rice I had the vegetable coconut on the vegan entree's and it was delicious. My wife and I ordered takeout, $65 worth of food. We thought it was expensive for the two of us but assumed the portions would be large enough for plenty of leftovers. Not so much. It was just enough to fill us, no leftovers to speak of. The attached photo is everything that we got for $65. The two containers had much more sauce than chunks of meat. We ordered butter chicken and lamb boti masala at two different heat levels, but both sauces tasted the exact same. The lamb was tender but the chicken was tough with unchewable chunks mixed in. I love Indian food. The depth of flavor is always so impressive. In this case there really wasn't depth to the curry flavors compared to other Indian restaurants I've tried, especially compared to Delhi Palace in Flagstaff. It was fine? If you really want Indian food around Prescott, there aren't many options. But you're going to pay a pretty penny for this one. Hope you actually get full for $30 per person when you go. read more

I've eaten Indian food across the US and numerous places in the UK (Never India proper). First off, every item we ordered was tremendously over salted. Perhaps the Masala, Vindaloo and Sag had spices and herbs, but they were undetectable under the massive amount of salt. Secondly, the Naans were horrible. Soggy, limp, thin, almost unfavored pieces of dough. One would be far, far better off just getting the pre-packaged ones from the grocery store. Thirdly, only once in dozens of trips to an Indian restaurant have I not received a side of Jasmine rice with each entree. No rice at this restaurant. Lastly, I realize food prices have increased, but $23+ for a 2 cup serving of 90% liquid Masala or Vindaloo doesn't represent a decent value. Hopefully those new to the wonderful world of Indian cuisine don't see this restaurant as a typical example. read more

Took a herd of college students to the restaurant. A few of them started a little tepidly but after they tasted everything they went all-in. I was worried that we over-ordered but when you have college students who discovered a taste for something, I started to worry that we under-ordered. :-) Food is great. Very flavorful. I appreciated that they were really flexible with spice -- they could make everything super mild and add spice levels to reflect whoever was eating. We had a mixed crowd so we got everything really mild and they brought out little bowls of spicy sauce for those that needed to add some kick to their food. Service is top notch. We had a large group (7) so we did make a reservation. The table was available a few minutes early and layout wasn't at all cramped. They were accomodating and had someone checking by regularly enough. The service team coordinated well together so there was no disconnects when different people helped us with different things. We went on a Saturday evening so they had a live guitarist playing on his acoustic. Music was mellow but had a lot of familiar favorites in there. Will definitely revisit. read more

Atmosphere was quiet and cozy. Service was good. Food was not up to par for a seasoned Indian eater. If it's your first time trying Indian food you might think it's good because of their creamy curry's but it is far off from authentic seasoning. To me, it felt like Olive Garden tried making Indian food. I got the butter chicken and the lamb misala, i couldn't tell the difference between either curry because they were basically the same. I have been craving Indian food since I moved to AZ & a friend of mine recommended Taj Mahal in Prescott. Funny enough it's it's literally 2 minutes from my job & I didn't notice it. Located right on Whiskey Row downtown with parking that's shared with the other business located nearby. Apparently this is the only Indian restaurant in town and I have mixed feelings about that and hope the food is good. After looking over the vegan & vegetarian food I decided on the vegetable samosas and the vegetable curry with mixed vegetables, carrots, peas, mushrooms, zucchini, & potatoes. I asked for it to be hot but it wasn't vey spicy. Overall the food was good but apparently everything here is a la cart which I don't like because I shouldn't be paying $15 bucks for a meal & still turn around for rice. The food was hot and so spicy(love the spice) and cooked to perfection. I had the Lamb Boti Kabob, it was so tasty and amazing....soft tender meat, easy to chew, so much savory flavor. A must have!! Hubby had the Chicken Tikka Masala, another of his favorite food, he sticks with what he likes..it was tender and juicy!! Our granddaughter had the Mulligawtany soup, it was a mild black bean, potato and chicken soup, she ate it all. And yes it was really that good!! Hidden gem, would highly recommend! The food is wonderful and the service on point. The manager Jackie is so sweet and welcoming! We sat at the bar and Jackie took excellent care of us, she answered all our questions and gave us great suggestions, def get the side of masala sauce, it is heavenly!! We started with the Tandoori wings, very tasty but had such a hard time deciding what to get as our entrees as everything sounded so wonderful. We went with the Punjabi goat curry and rack of lamb and so glad we did! Don't forget the naan, our fav was the bullet, nice and spicy! The food was flavorful and spiced well. It also came out very quickly. Our main concern was the price and quantity you were served. Thursday, December 29, 2022. We live in Southern California but every time we come to Prescott to visit family we eat here. Brought my wife and daughter here this afternoon for lunch. Definitely not the cheapest place but it's also downtown so it's going to be more expensive and plus Indian food isn't cheap to begin with. I ordered a Sierra Nevada beer on tap today with my Chicken Tika Masala lunch special. The biggest disappointment I have with this place, is the beer is not cold enough. It's like 45° and should be served much colder than that. More like 35°. The manager said they are trying to fix their cooler hopefully that is the case because when we ate here a year and a half ago, the beer I ordered (Flying Horse Royal Lager) was also at room temperature. I read my previous Taj Mahal review from a year and a half ago and I complained about it then too! Not sure why it's taking them so long to fix their cooler? They should have fixed that a LONG TIME AGO! Nothing worse than warm beer with your food! But as I said above, the food is good here. No complaints with any of that. It's just as good as what we would get at the Indian restaurants we go to at home in Southern California. I'll come here again the next time we come to Prescott but dammit, they better get that damn cooler fixed! read more
