Well, not great food. A bit bland for my personal taste... my tastebuds hailing from Seattle, Washington and the many awesome Chinese-Vietnamese- Thai restaurants. Stopped here for lunch with a friend We both ordered Padd Sa Eiw with chicken. This was served over mung noodles. Service was quick but the dish was not flavorful... at least to me. I walked out of here saying I had the best Thai food experience in I've had in Central Texas. No joke, if Tham Rab Thai was in Austin they would give some Thai places a run for their money. It was an all around excellent experience! It was not easy to locate these guys, I've missed them on 3 prior occasions, they're located in the large strip mall and their small store faces faces north, so if you're driving by you'll have to catch their name mixed in w/ a plethora of other store names on the main strip mall's sign. But once you find them, you will never forget them. It wasn't too busy, the employees are very open and friendly and greeted me as I walked into a quiet yet inviting place. The employees were huddled around and eager to please, so I got a lot of attention. I put in my to-go order for the Pad Thai, Som Tum (Papaya Salad), and I believe the Pad See Ew, which was highly recommended by them. Several minutes later my dishes came out, one by one. I had some friends at home to share this with, but it smelled so good I told them I would try a bit now to give them some immediate feedback. OMG. WoW........ Everything was so awesome and tasted so great! The Som Tum was so flavorful and refreshing, it's the best Papaya Salad I've tried to date. The Pad Thai was honestly the best I've ever had- - quality all around and full of flavor. The Pad See Ew was a knock out too, I couldn't just eat one bite of each dish - - they just laughed and gave me that "see I told you so nod" - - meaning, I told you it was damn good! They were so very friendly and nice, and gave excellent recommendations. I haven't found Thai food in Austin that rivals this place, although a couple may come close, this is certainly a hidden gem in Killeen that will have you coming back for more. This place has my vote for the best Thai in Killeen. Great food served up by a very friendly family. If you like a buffet, they have a great one. Lots of delicious items which change daily, so you can come everyday and have something different. I don't generally eat buffets but I will here. They also have a pretty extensive menu. My favorites here are the Som Tum (Papaya Salad) and the Yum Nuer (beef salad). They also have very tasty chicken wings and Thai beef jerky, both of which go great with the Som Tum and the Sticky Rice! One last thing. They are open straight through from 11:30am to 8:30pm, which makes them a great place to stop if you need a late lunch and want Thai food. read more

Yay! So happy they're back! I was so sad when there was an ownership change out in Harker Heights (Orchid Thai), but am so relieved to hear that they've opened up a restaurant in Killeen! This is the best Thai Food ever :)! I love their stir fry, papaya salad, tom yum soups -- my friends all love the spicy sour pork (I'm a vegetarian)! Went with my son and enjoyed the food. It is hard to find great food in Fort Hood but I did enjoy this place.

It was okay. The food and ambiance was subpar compared to other Thai food restaurants. I'm a bit disappointed in the presentation. I can only express from my second experience. The first was not good either and that was over a year ago. I thought I'd give it another try to see if there was improvement. Officially, I will not be going back. I hope everyone else's experience is better. I just didn't feel the passion from the outside, inside and the food. A stack of magazines was visible at the window, windows were dirty. This was around 4:45 on a Monday. The waiter was pleasant. But I'm a bit concerned that the food is only for consumption and not an experience? Perhaps the cook is tired? Food so amazing I didn't even have time to take photos of them. I ordered papaya salad medium spicy, excellent with sticky rice by the way. I also got their house made spring roll, pad thai chicken and pineapple fried rice me. Yes, I eat a lot and ate them all. I ordered from here over 5 times now and the food quality is outstanding every single time. I highly recommend this restaurant. Oh, the staff is also very kind and professional. I LOVE reviews that are detailed and lead you to an amazing find. I would not have found this gem without them! This is my new favorite. We ordered spicy green curry, spicy pad Thai, pepper chicken, and ragoons. The green curry had an excellent blend of heat (spice wise) and flavor as wall as a very authentic consistency and taste. If you're a curry lover you know it's not a complicated dish but easy to ruin. This was perfect! The pepper chicken had a very thin sauce but wowed the pickiest eater I know. For me, this also sold me on the restaurant. A light dish with flavor is rare. I also tried the pad Thai, which is another easy recipe but can be ruined by one extra shake of a spice etc. The noodles were thin, flat, firm but fully cooked with a slight brown from the oil. Perfect. The rest was equally delicious. I called this in at 1:25 and told it would be ready in 10 minutes. When I arrived 12 minutes later it was packed, hot, and ready to go. Everyone was so nice, super smiles, and thus guaranteed I am returning. The pricing is very proportional to quality. Worth the try!!! read more

We sat ourselves in this large restaurant. They have plenty of seating even for groups larger than 4. All the dishes were made to order, and they came out quickly, around 15 minutes for the 4 of us. The pad Thai was a little tough according to a family member, but the seasoning was spot on. The red curry, yellow curry were tasty with a little heat. The chicken satay with cucumber salad was light and flavorful. The vegetable tempura was beautiful to look at and perfectly puffy. The decor was very interesting to look at. It was a very busy night and only one man working the whole dining room, so he had to make a few trips to the table to get everything there. I gave this restaurant 5 stars because the food tastes very authentic and delicious, and he kept a great attitude. They have a Monday through Friday buffet that's only $7.99. Worth checking out! Some of the best Thai food in central Texas! Found this place on yelp when I went to meet my fiancé for lunch, since he works in Killeen and loves Thai food. It is delicious from the appetizers to the main courses I've never been disappointed! We even took my parents there when they were down. They've got varying levels of hot from nothing to thai hot. I always get the mild and it's got just the right amount of heat. Mike goes back and forth between mild or medium. If you want asian food, or specifically Thai food in the Killeen area, GO HERE! My husband and I found this place shortly after we moved to the area last year, and it quickly became our new favorite place. Whatever we order has come quickly and the quality is just incredible. The red curry and cream cheese rangoons are the best I have ever had, and they are kind of my go-to orders. My husband always gets the pad thai either with chicken or duck and again, it's always fantastic! I've been a regular and loyal customer since they were at the old location (in Harker Heights off of Indian Trail). Eating there was my first experience with Thailand food and I was hooked. It's also an added bonus that they instantly greet and remember you right when you walk in the door. So, you can just imagine my disappointment when the owner, Rangson, told me that they were going to sell their restaurant to another buyer. Rangson later had the cook (relative) come out to speak with me. She gave me her number so I can order home-cooked meals from her and all I had to do was call. Such a sweet compromise! Unfortunately, I lost her number.. I should've guarded it as if it were the Holy Grail. (Well, in my opinion it really was.) When the new owners took over Orchid Thai, we decided to give it a try. My companion and I both agreed it was no comparison. Not even close. Oh well... Fast forward to 2010. Had a craving for Thailand again and wanted to try someplace different. Yelped it, and OMG... I want to give a major shoutout to fellow Yelpers, V R. and Bill K., for stating on their review that the previous owners of Orchid Thai are back! That was all I need to know... Before this month I would have given this restaurant 5 stars...I have been a loyal customer for as long as they've been at the Fort Hood St location (and even when they had their old restaurant in Harker Heights). But, and here is the kicker, I went there for lunch yesterday and learned that they SOLD THE RESTAURANT...AGAIN!!! My husband and I both noticed that all the staff was new and the food tasted different. I even asked my waitress if the restaurant had been sold and she told me no (why didn't she just tell me the truth? No idea.). I asked where one lady was and was told that she was in the kitchen cooking. Hmmmm... I finally got the truth when I asked the man at the cash register. At least he was honest. The food wasn't bad...just different. I will go back and give it another try and if the quality remains I'm sure I'll still eat there, just not as often as before.
