As a Lebanese person myself, I was very pleased with this restaurant. It's the only true Mediterranean restaurant in the region. A detailed breakdown of my thoughts is below: Service 5/5: Very friendly staff Atmosphere 5/5: The restaurant is very nice on the inside and the decoration reminds me of Lebanon Food 4.5/5: The flavor of the beef kofta was amazing. I really liked the seasoning. The Chicken Tawook wasn't special and didn't have as much seasoning as it's supposed to have. It was also a bit dry. Finally, the fattoush Salad was perfectX Price 3/5: I paid $9 just for the "Entree Salad" which honestly is more like a "Side Salad" with a couple of chicken chunks. First time visit to this restaurant and it was far better than expected. Small family shop, but that adds to the atmosphere and service. Great service and conversation with Elie. His warm, fun, and joking approach made it feel like we were old friends. The food here was great. These were the best stuffed grape leaves that I've had. The salad was delicious as was the falafel. The falafel was beautifully shaped crispy on the outside and moist and flavorful inside. Overall the food was very well balanced with complimentary flavors and no element too pronounced. The folks here definitely take pride in the food they make and it really comes through in the service, taste and atmosphere. I will definitely be back soon! Lamb kebob wrap was entirely satisfactory. Not an overly generous portion (the pita to lamb ratio was a bit too heavily skewed towards pita) but well executed and tasty enough. Mild. No side with the sandwich, which could leave a hungry diner with an unsatisfied feeling. I ordered a pickle and veggie plate to pre-empt this problem. That was nice, with some pleasant heat on the pickled beets. Service was super friendly but only two folks were around on the day your correspondent attended and the healthy lunch crowd likely had to have some patience/time to enjoy their lunch. Ok. The food was ok. But there were several disappointing developments. I asked if the chicken or beef was better. The serving girl (maybe 14 years old) told me they were out of chicken. Later, several tables around us were served chicken before and after we got our food. My wife tried to order lamb. She was told they were out of lamb. Middle Eastern fare can be hit or miss in a town like Springfield, but That Lebanese Place is an unqualified master of all things kabob and shawarma. Everything, from the tabouleh salad to the lentil soup and, at long last, the mixed grill, was prepared with care and contained the perfect balance of delicate seasonings and hearty ingredients. As an added bonus, the interior of the restaurant was far more refined than its exterior appearance and simple signage would suggest. So, what gives with the four star rating? It's primarily speed of service (or lack thereof) that holds TLP back from five-star status: It took quite a while to be recognized when I first arrived, and my wait time during a mundane, low-key Thursday afternoon was well beyond what I would consider acceptable at any other lunch spot. Of course, this ISN'T any other lunch spot, distinguishing itself in all the ways mentioned above and more. So, I'll certainly return - I just won't do so when I have somewhere to be. read more

I have always loved Mediterranean food, and for some reason, I hadn't tried That Lebanese Place. Yesterday was my first try, and I fell in love with it. The server was actually a co-owner of the place. Very approachable and full of knowledge about the menu. We were excited as we sat there, enjoying the cultural music and the scents of those spices. We ordered a shareable dinner for two. It was amazing! We had lentil soup, a Lebanese salad, grape leaf wraps, falafel, baba ghanouj, chicken shawarma, and four skewers of a variety of meats and dips. Here is where I get a little crazy: this wasn't one thing in the menu that was fantastic... everything was AMAZING! I can't describe the use of the herbs and spices or the beautiful balance of the cooking. It was just breathtaking. Maybe the cook (who said they were Jordanian) was having a good day, or maybe they always cooked like this, but wow! We had another Mediterranean restaurant we went to, but this is our new favorite. There was also a good variety of menu items that are classic Lebanese dishes, all at affordable prices. A taste of the Middle East right here in Springfield, this is one of my personal favorite places to eat downtown. Everything from the flavors, spices, to the decor and music this is the only place you are going to find it. Beef Kafta and the Lamb Kebab are some of my personal picks, there are also plenty of tasty appetizers, Baba Ghanouj, Hummus, Falafel and a must try Baklava for desert! So glad this place is here, Lebanese food, really hit home with me and find the menu an adventure every time I eat here. Met the owner, supper nice guy who really takes pride in what they are doing. Everything is made fresh and if upon occasion they are out of something say the Pepper Joe, its because some of the ingredients were unavailable. That shows things are made with authentic spices and ingredients and they are going to make it correct rather than substitute. Lebanese food is much different from say Greek or Indian, personally I think it beats them both for flavor and spice combinations. You might not have heard of some of the dish's, I hadn't, so here a few ways to test the waters of Lebanese food. Almost everything is available in reasonably priced sandwich form, not sure if you like the Beef Kafta or the Chicken Shawarma go for lunch and try the sandwich first before having the dinner entree. Another option is if you come with a group, get one of the family style platter's, this way you can try a little bit of everything and find out what really suits your taste pallet. They also have Lebanese Wine and beer, I went with a Almaza pilsner and wasn't disappointed, good stuff. If you are feeling social or by your self, sit at the counter, get to know the owner and staff. I don't give out a whole lot of 5 stars, it was easy to do here. If you are from out of town and already are acquainted with Lebanese or Middle Eastern food, this is the only game in town. read more

Without a doubt the best falafels I've had in a long long time. They're crispy on the outside, soft inside, serves nice and hot with pickled veggies and tahini sauce. We had a plate of hummus to start with. The hummus was very smooth and garlicky and a lot of pita bread to dip into. I had the falafel platter for entree which was a lot in quantity and had to take half of it home. My friend has the chicken shawarma and was very pleased with it. The owner/manager/chef(not sure) personally came and spoke to everyone and asked them how the food was and explained the food of anyone has any questions. He was very pleasing to talk to and made our meal even more enjoyable. It felt like eating in someone's house as opposed to in a restaurant or a business. While we didn't have any dessert, his description and promises of the baklava and kanafe will definitely take me back there. They make everything fresh on Tuesdays enough to last them a few days. They might run out of desserts by the end of the week, so if you're going for desserts make sure to go on a Tuesday or call before you go! read more

I enjoyed the place enough that, when my parents, brother, and sister-in-law came up for a Saturday visit, I proposed it as a reasonable place to eat, and they agreed. We were served by a gentleman whom I assume to the proprietor; he was friendly and effusive and very helpful when it came time to order. My Dad and I split a pot of Lebanese coffee, which is kind of like unsweetened Turkish coffee: very dark, very strong, and very powerful. We both loved it! I had the $6.99 lunch deal again, this time trying the hummus and a beef gyro sandwich. Also, my brother gave me a piece of his falafel. I don't think I'm as fond of the hummus as I am of the baba ghanouj, but everything was still all exceedingly tasty. And we happened to notice that there are dollar bills pinned up to the ceiling! I'm not entirely clear on why that is. Perhaps they just had some "high" tippers. Be sure and look up when you're in there! The food was quite economical and very delicious. While I won't go out of my way to go back (because Commercial _is_ out of my way), I'll definitely eat there again next time I'm in the area. read more

Nice menu. Missing grape leaves due to the supplier( make them fresh like in the old family traditional way ??) Cold food baba ganoush good and creamy. Sadly the hot food is also cold. Ordered the That's Lebanese Platter and ALL COLD, very disappointing. Ordered tabouli not delivered. Three very busy young people working diligently just not providing what the expectations. If you want any additional drinks like water or a refill of Chai don't hold your breathe. Once the plates and drink is dropped you don't see or hear from server again. This could have been a nice lunch, unfortunately only a truly Lebanese menu. Not a Lebanese culinary offering. read more

I admit that I've never had Lebanese food before, so I have no way to tell if the food is authentic, but it was definitely great. My wife and I had a combo platter with several dishes I cannot pronounce- let alone spell. Everything from appetizers to the main dish were excellent. I have been here twice for dinner. It's the first Lebanese food I've ever eaten, although I find it similar to Indian and/or Greek food. On our first visit, my husband and I had the "That Lebanese Platter" and an order of Chicken Shawarma. The platter was awesome because it gave us a taste of a little bit of everything, and the Shawarma was very good. I would recommend both. My second visit was with some friends. We all ordered Tabbouleh as part of our meal, which seemed to have A LOT more parsley in it than what is normal. I wouldn't have known the difference since I'm a newbie, but both of my friends had prior experience with the dish and felt that it needed more wheat in it. As a carb-aholic, I would have to agree. I also had the Beef Shawarma on my second visit, and it was just as excellent as the chicken. On both visits the service was perfect. The servers were attentive and able to answer questions and give suggestions from the menu. They were happy to let us linger at our table until closing time. The atmosphere here is not the liveliest, although they do play Lebanese music. The booths are unique half-circle wooden jobs that seat three and are kind of fun. Also, be sure to check out all the $1 bills stuck to the ceiling. Maybe you can get one up there too. read more

We've been coming here for years and should've written a review long ago. Some context, bear with me: We came back recently to see family after a long absence due to the pandemic. Frankly, it was kind of a mess with the recent surge in new COVID variants and the low vax rates, lack of mask adherence, etc. Several family members tested positive the night we got there and it ended up substantially changing our plans and the general tenor of our visit. Not the best trip home we've ever had. On the last night we were there (and after we'd had COVID tests to verify), we took my parents to this restaurant as a way to say thanks for taking care of us and letting us stay at their place like they always do. The owner and chef was as friendly as ever and after hearing our debate and dithering over what to get recommended their not-on-the-menu family style platter. We ordered this and it was amazing! It gave my parents -- who don't eat outside their comfort zone often -- a chance to sample some of the delicious variety of food from this region: 3 types of kebabs, shwarma, rice, dolmas, tabbouleh, baba ghanoush, falafel, etc. Was enough for 5 of us + a meal or so left over. We topped it off with their baclava and some Lebanese coffee, which was a particular treat for my dad. This dining experience let us end on a really fantastic note to what was otherwise a crummy trip. We got to share some of our favorite food with my parents, it was really good quality, and there was plenty of it to boot. I recommend staying away from the plates, as the meats are flavorful, but dry. I like tabouli w more bulgur than their version - as it soaks up the tangy flavors.
