I received the confirmation email with my order number with the pickup date/time/address and confirmed that the $42 charge went through on my card. I arrived at this Bake Code pickup location at 1:45pm and provided my name and order number to the person working. They went around the back to check but couldn't find my cake. They asked to confirm pickup date and time, and I showed them my email confirmation. They apologized and had to text their manager for confirmation. I stood there for about 10 minutes while they were going back and forth. Eventually, without even asking me, they just took the red velvet cake that was on display and asked me to re-write the birthday message on a napkin so they could put it on a chocolate plaque right then and there. It would have been nice to get a heads up on the cake swap - how would I know whether it had been on display for a few days already? It's not like I had any other choice so I let it go. They also didn't offer any compensation for the trouble (I even purchased some mini sausage buns) nor any explanation of what happened. The only explanation I received was "it didn't deliver". What is that supposed to mean? How can I trust Bake Code in the future to deliver what I've ordered on time?
