I gave them 5.0 stars because I can't resist treating myself and my friends to this place at least three times a week. Their cannolis are irresistible--I prefer them over Grande cheese, no contest! They truly have the best in town!

Went for a zeppole and cappuccino and was disappointed to see that they charge $5 for such a small portion of Zeppole. Not much cream either and the pastry was over cooked. Usually they are great...must have been a bad bakers day!

Maple Bakery must have a reason to be in business for that long .. 1983... some yelpers not even born yet!! The deco though is not as dated.. and interior is clean and organized. The bread and sweet selections all looks tempting!! And I just got to pick ONE! Almond and Apple Flan ($2.20) - tons and tons of almond!! Just a touch of apple baked in the filling... - not too sweet but so flaky!!! - excellent as a snack and go with a cup of strong coffee Maple Bakery is small and cozy. A place where people living around the neighbourhood can hang out, pick up decent bread and pastries... I wish my hood has one of this too... Markham Bakery, where can you?!!!

Excellent local bakery with fresh breads, pastries, and a hot table. Very good food with the essentials. Fresh coffee, and a few items. Cakes are excellent here but you need to order in advance. Nothing is ready to go. They have a few frozen cakes made from LaRocca if you need something in a pinch. I had amazing coffee and a meatball sandwich at the end of the day. So I can't give it a full 5 till I come back and try to see the full selection.

If you want real Italian dessert, this is the place to go to. Got the cannoli, custard tart and cronut. Pricing was great. Quality is amazing.

When I recently visited the Greater Toronto Area, the buzz word was "cronut." Launched by Ansel Bakery in New York about 5 months ago, the cronut is a hybrid of buttery layers of a croissant & crisp fried crunchiness of a doughnut. I asked GTA Yelpers Wayne C. & Jennifer K. where to get them, & they directed me to Maple Bakery in the suburb of Maple in Vaughan. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maple-bakery-maple?select=46IGxAXqcmMxhvAH-G0ZTg Not knowing how popular cronuts were, I was surprised that they were sold out when I got there. Regular flavors were $3.75 each (sugar, cinnamon/sugar, chocolate or vanilla or maple glazed) & custard cream filled at $5 each. I was told to pre-order, even if it was only for 1 cronut, to ensure that I get one. I then placed an order for 2 cronuts, their most popular flavors being cinnamon/sugar & chocolate glazed, for pick-up the next day. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maple-bakery-maple?select=PjD5pl2i_IoVZy33WbbSmg The cronuts were delicious! The outside was crunchy, & the inside layers were light & airy. The cinnamon/sugar mixture made each bite so flaky delicious, with the cinnamon/sugar crystals falling all over me as I ate; & real dark chocolate was used which made the cronut so creamy and rich chocolaty w/ each bite. Don't know how the taste compared w/ the original cronut, but those from Maple Bakery were very delicious. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maple-bakery-maple?select=l3gNX4Z2FTcaENirE9ujhA http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maple-bakery-maple?select=NH3EcNAvy1MG8tv2Pj9kFQ But what made the trip to this bakery that was so interesting was not only the cronuts, but that the bakery was more than a bakery. Opened in 1983, Maple Bakery is an authentic Italian bakery owned/ operated by the Russo Family, w/ recipes handed down by many generations. It started off as a small bakery and gradually expanded over the years to include breads, gelato, sandwiches, hot table, deli, and grocer. In addition to cronuts, some of its offerings, which are made daily, include: - Fresh Italian-style breads/buns - Calabrese (relating to Calabria, a region of southern Italy) breads, Panini,& many others http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maple-bakery-maple?select=-Kd0sECcx8gJjBQQuNJu1A - Custom cakes - birthday, wedding, baptism, baby blocks shower cake, & many others http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maple-bakery-maple?select=slUZqasUrMCjHjLtfNlEuw - Cookies - shortbread, amaretti, church cross http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maple-bakery-maple?select=-e_sL53t9iKXJ7GEO_7MgQ - Fresh pastries - cartocci, cannoli, & many more http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maple-bakery-maple?select=Fo2cBvVrZGzXQSAN_P4qZw http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maple-bakery-maple?select=CjtrVvSE7Glj4Ld8CSN5Aw - Homemade gelato - lemon, hazelnut, chocolate, & more - Deli - Italian cold cuts (salami, prosciutto, sausages, etc.) & cheeses http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maple-bakery-maple?select=1el8HcJJ9cHdm-VnGUb1GQ - Hot table - gourmet pizzas, veal sandwiches, steak on a bun, lasagna, chicken/eggplant parmigiana, & more - Grocery items - breadcrumbs, oil, antipasto, soft drinks, coffee There is a dining area where you can have any of the above as a snack or meal w/ coffee. During the 2 times that I was there, it was a homey feeling, as community residents knew each other by name, eating what they ordered, & chatting about the local happenings; there was no rush to be anywhere but here. A real business that you felt like it was your family. In fact, all of Maple Bakery's employees are either family or long-time employees who know the community well. As the city of Vaughan has a large Italian community, this Italian bakery fills the needs of that community. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maple-bakery-maple?select=X1hEaqqJaTRolJETbeiljg I enjoyed the pretty decorated pastries, which I could tell contained real butter & real chocolate. I loved the cartocci (cylindrical doughnut filled w/cannoli cream & chocolate chips) & the cannoli (Sicilian tube-shaped pastry shell filled w/sweet, creamy ricotta cheese filling). No skimping of real ingredients here. Truly Italian! In trying to decide which pastries to get, I noticed that names of the items were not posted & because I was not familiar w/ Italian desserts, I could only point to what I had wanted; however, as the customers are predominantly Italian & from the local community, they know what they want, & there is no need to post any names to identify the items. (I guess I need to get up to speed.) The bakery is located inconspicuously in a small plaza just north of Major Mac on the west side of Keele Street, w/parking available in the private lot. Maple Bakery not only has Italian baked items, but also has hot food, deli items, gelato, and grocery items. It's also a casual restaurant. And it sells cronuts. Love to go back to try the rest of the items!

Do not order pizza here!!! Pizza was undercooked even when requested well done. The pizza never rised and the middle was drippy and stuck to the box. Management is uncooperative and will not compensate in any way. There all kids that work there and don't know what there doing.

Tip: Collect My Crumbs rewards and redeem them for goods…read more It was a soggy, downpour of a Saturday. I was heading home, driving along highway 7. I remembered seeing this Crumbl store in Woodbridge, which is next door to Nations Fresh Foods. I decided to place an order and drop by. What was special about last week was that Crumbl had a lemon cake. I have had it before. It's excellent. I needed to get one. I parked closer to Nations and placed my order through the Crumbl app: - Lemon cake - 24-ounce (medium) EZ breezy I paid. I then took my umbrella and walked over to Crumbl. It was exceptionally busy at roughly 4;45 pm. Everyone was standing around. I frankly didn't know where I should be. There were a couple of self-serve kiosks where you could place your order. No one was there. There must have been at least fifteen teenagers who spoke French the entire time. They were lined up against the wall. This store has a washroom. It was my first time being in a Crumbl store with one open to the public. There was a young woman in front of me who kept on looking back at me and everyone else. It was weird and annoying. I saw my name on the screen. I was thrilled that my order was being made. I heard my name. My EZ breeze beverage was ready. The nice man handed it to me along with a straw. It was a bit difficult to poke my straw through the lid. Some of drink came up on the lid. I slurped it like the person who doesn't want a drop wasted because this drink was $7.55 before taxes. I will say that this drink was excellent. The EZ (I keep saying e-zed because I'm Canadian) breezy had Diet Coke, regular ice, sugar-free coconut, a lime wedge, and coconut cream. It had the perfect coconut-lime combination that I craved, along with Diet Coke. I was thrilled that it was a sugar-free drink that didn't suck. It took maybe an extra five minutes before my lemon cake was ready. The staring-behind woman stopped staring when I got my drink, followed by my cake. At Crumbl, staffers open the box to show you your dessert items. It was my first time seeing a staffer open up the box and accidentally squash some of the lemon cream cheese frosting on my lemon cake with his huge thumb. It was a bit sad seeing someone destroy a part of my cake before I got to. I don't think there's a policy to fix a cake that a staffer has messed up. I didn't think about it when it happened and simply took it. It would be yummy, whether the frosting was messed up or not. I put my lemon cake in a reusable bag to protect it from the rain and headed to my car. I then drove home, continuing to drink my EZ breezy. Delicious! I had the lemon cake later on in the evening. It was yummy just as I had remembered it. The cake was fluffy. The lemon tartness was perfect. The cream cheese frosting was lemony and heavenly. I was thrilled that I got to enjoy this cake again. I should try coming here after work and see whether it's busy. I had a good experience, despite having cake with a bonus thumbprint. (223)

First thing I noticed was their display of focaccia sandwiches. They had 4 kinds. I wish I didn't already have lunch plans. I love focaccia! The fillings offered were interesting like, mortadella x pistachios or prosciutto x truffle! I will have to return. I came here for the pastry. They had at least 16 different kinds of croissants and danishes. Not including cookies, whole pies and they also serve coffee and loaves of bread. Tiramisu danish was one of their popular items so I got that plus a plain croissant. Wow, the tiramisu was a 10/10! I mean, there was even a piece of ladyfinger soaked in coffee inside the danish! It was unbelievable. It was such a delightful dessert. As for the plain croissant, it was sadly average. It didn't have that crispy, flaky bite I enjoy. Note there is no seating area but there is a counter with a view of the parking lot.

Last Saturday, I was in my car, parked steps away from Zoup! I had placed a dinner order. I looked across the plaza and noticed Paris Baguette (PB). I had visited COBS Bread a couple of hours earlier. Did I need another bakery visit? Yes! I had some time to kill before picking up my dinner. It was raining. I drove over to PB and parked relatively close to the store. I walked in. I felt like I was in heaven. Carb heaven. Where should I start? I got a tray. There were instructions to grab a small piece of paper and lay it on the tray. I got tongs and went to work. I saw palmiers. My mom loves them. I grabbed one with my tongs and broke off a curved section. It was probably a first for me. I ate the broken part and placed the imperfect palmier on my tray. The broken piece was yummy and was perfection. I finally understood why my mom loves palmiers. I hit the croissant section. I got a pain au chocolat, which is probably my favourite type of croissant. I also got a chocolate croissant. A nice, older woman started chatting with me. She was so sweet. She let me know that she frequents this bakery often and loves it. I asked her what items she hasn't had. It was two items, which floored me. She noticed the chausson aux pommes that I had on my tray and said that it was yummy. I got the following items: - Chausson aux pommes - Chocolate croissant - Pineapple brûlée pastry - Palmier - Pastel de nata - Pain au chocolat - Curry croquette The nice woman let me know that Mia, who was the staffer behind the counter, let her know that this bakery has Korean owners. Really? It made sense seeing mochi donuts. We both hit the checkout counter. Mia got her order and said to grab a seat. She'd bring everything to her. This nice woman said that she was shy of being 90 years old. What?! She looked great! I wouldn't have guessed that I was talking to an 89-year-old woman during my entire time here. I hope that when I am her age, I am savouring pastry as often as my new friend. Mia was great. She put all my pastries in a box. She singled out my savoury curry croquette in a paper bag. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I got my receipt, thanked her, grabbed my goodies, wished my new friend a wonderful day, and left. There was a Wild game that night. I had a pastry each period. Three pastries in three hours. They were delicious! I will say that the ones with fresh fruit were the most expensive, just over $6. They were worth it. The chausson aux pommes had the best apple filling. It was flaky and delicious. I absolutely devoured the pineapple brûlée pastry. The pineapple chunks were set in custard and were so naturally sweet. This pastry was superb. The pain au chocolat continues to be my favourite croissant. It was flaky and had the best chocolate in every bite. So good! I had the chocolate croissant and loved it. It was fresh, flaky, and soft. The chocolate drizzle had the right amount of chocolate with the buttery croissant. I was extremely happy with my pastel de nata. The custard had a hint of sweetness. The base of flaky. It could have been torched on top more, but I'd get half a dozen next time. I didn't know what to expect with the curry croquette. It was delicious. It had a crispy exterior, crusted with a mix of white and black sesame seeds. The curry filling was full of good flavour. It had veggies in it. The corn and carrot combination worked nicely. I raved about this place to my friend at work today. There's one at Heartland in Mississauga, which is perfect for us to do a run after work. I had an excellent experience. It was nice meeting a passionate pastry lover while getting her take on what she loves. Everything that I consumed was excellent. I hope to get a drink next time and perhaps sit down to enjoy it. I'll be back. (117)

In a quiet corner of Woodbridge, La Strada Bakery defies easy categorization -- and therein lies…read moreits singular charm. What presents itself modestly as a neighbourhood Italian bakery reveals, upon closer acquaintance, something altogether more intriguing: a transatlantic pastry dialogue between the Old World and South America, shaped by the hands of a Uruguayan chef who brings both traditions to bear with quiet confidence. The cannoli are, without equivocation, the crown jewel of this establishment. Piped to order, the filling achieves a textural ideal -- sweetly yielding, impeccably creamy, and notably free of the aggressive lemon notes that so often overwhelm lesser versions. The shell delivers a satisfying, delicate crunch, its restraint allowing the ricotta cream to assert itself as the undisputed protagonist. These are cannoli that would draw admiration well beyond the borders of Woodbridge. One ought not to overlook the sfogliatelle, rendered here in golden, shattering layers, nor the cherry-filled donuts -- generously proportioned, freshly made, and possessed of a quality that lingers in memory long after the visit. The facturas, custard-filled and dusted with care, speak fluently to the South American soul of the kitchen, while the empanadas offer a savoury counterpoint of notable finesse. The space itself is intimate to the point of cosiness -- a handful of seats, a tall central table, and a glass case brimming with the day's offerings. The pace is unhurried, the atmosphere warmly domestic. Tony, the proprietor, greets each guest with a hospitality that feels entirely genuine -- the kind of welcome that transforms a transaction into something closer to a visit with an old friend. If one were to offer a gentle note, it might be that the sheer breadth of the offering -- Italian classics alongside Uruguayan specialties and homemade ravioli -- occasionally tests the boundaries of the compact space. Yet this abundance, curated with evident passion, is ultimately more virtue than flaw. La Strada is a bakery for those who understand that the finest pleasures are often found where one least expects them.

One of the things that originally made Bready stand out for me when it opened was the pancakes. They were exceptionally light and airy, with a texture that reminded me of Japanese-style soufflé pancakes. On this visit, however, they seemed much denser and closer to conventional pancakes. I'm not sure whether the recipe has changed or whether this was simply an off morning, but it wasn't the experience I'd come to expect. There were also a couple of aspects of the service that I think could be improved. The pancakes took long enough to prepare that my coffee was either cold or already finished by the time they reached the table. Going back to the counter to buy another coffee isn't a great solution because the pancakes then begin cooling while you're waiting in line for that second cup. It might help if customers ordering pancakes were asked whether they'd prefer their coffee served with the meal, or if staff simply checked whether they'd like a fresh coffee when the pancakes are ready. I was also surprised that butter isn't served with the pancakes unless requested. When I asked for it, it arrived straight from the refrigerator, so it was too cold and hard to spread easily or melt onto the hot pancakes. A small dish of room-temperature butter would make a noticeable difference. I'm writing this because Bready has been one of my favourite breakfast spots, and I'd genuinely like to see it continue to excel. I hope this visit was an exception rather than a sign that things have changed.

I'd been wanting to try the cannoli from St. Philip's Bakery for a while, and I finally stopped by!…read moreI picked up 2 classic chocolate cannolis, 2 pistachio cannolis. and 2 ricotta lobstertails Price & Size: Cannolis were around $4 each, not exactly cheap, but they were quite large. Taste: The shells were crispy, and the ricotta filling was smooth, not too sweet, and overall tasty. The lobstertails were also crispy and creamy. Verdict: After trying the 3 most famous cannoli spots in Vaughan, this one ranks 3rd for me. They were good, but nothing mind-blowing--I wouldn't go out of my way just for these. Of course, this is subjective, so this might be someone else's favorite! Bakery & Service: The store was clean, well-organized, and easy to browse. The staff was friendly, but I wish they had price tags on display. Beyond cannoli, this bakery offers a huge selection of pastries, bread, cakes, deli meats, ready-to-eat meals, coffee, and gelato--so I'd love to come back and try more!

When I attempted to speak, she glanced at a colleague, checked the time, and rather dismissively stated, "We are closed." This was confusing, as several customers were still actively shopping and completing purchases. When I pointed this out, she responded that "this section is closed," despite remaining at the same counter and continuing her work. The interaction came across as unprofessional and discourteous. I would expect a more respectful and customer-oriented approach, particularly when the store is still open and serving others. I hope management is aware of such conduct, as it does not reflect well on the overall customer experience.

I have been using the Too Good to Go app here and there. The problem that I found was that all…read moreplaces locally within Markham tend to have sold out on end-of-day food before I look at the app. The concept is great. Rather than having businesses throw out food and have it go to waste at the end of the day, they sell it at reduced prices through the app. I decided to expand my search radius, which has been wonderful. I found Bravo Baklava and Bagels. I bought a surprise bag for $6. My pickup time was between noon and 7 pm yesterday. I took my time getting there on a Saturday, eventually arriving well before 2 pm. Bravo is in a plaza with a bunch of other stores, diagonally across from Canada's Wonderland. I found a parking spot and backed into it. I didn't do any research about Bravo before I headed over. I was delighted to see a sign saying that it's a Turkish bakery. I was in Istanbul several years ago. I absolutely loved hitting bakeries. I walked through the door and saw a fridge with fizzy drinks. I have not seen them since I was in Istanbul. It threw me back and I was incredibly happy. A lovely woman behind the counter said hi. I reciprocated. I looked at all the baklava in the display case. Wow! I was mesmerized. I let her know that it felt like being back in Istanbul. It felt so comfortable. I then indicated that I had a Too Good to Go order. I showed her my code and she started packing stuff for me. I liked that she described what I was getting. I was shocked at how much she was giving me. She showed me a generous slice of mango cake. She gave me two containers. She also gave me two bags of simits, which are Turkish bagels. These ones were huge and fully covered in sesame seeds. Each bag had four simits. I was so shocked to get so much food. She indicated that I should freeze the simits and take one out whenever I wanted one. She was so helpful. I looked at the puddings and desserts. I couldn't take my eyes off a baked good with a honey glaze, with some sesame seeds on it. She was so kind to put one in a bag and give it to me. It was such a kind gesture. She was so generous. I thanked her for everything and wished her a great day. I walked out and put everything in my car before I drove off. I ate the honey-glazed baked good in the car. It was so fresh. It had a touch of sweetness. It was chewy and still warm. I loved the sesame seeds on top. I ate it plain, but I'm sure that it would be yummy with a spread of your choice. I had one of the mango cakes for dessert last night. The cake was moist and yummy. The mango puree on top wasn't overly sugary. It tasted like ripe, fresh mangoes. This morning, I had a simit for breakfast with a couple of fried eggs. There is something enjoyable breaking up a simit and dipping it into runny egg yolks. Delicious! Each simit is generously covered in sesame seeds. It's chewy and so perfect. I love bagels, but simits are special. I remember having one every day while in Istanbul, thanks to the lounge area that offered them any time of day. I'm so glad that I can get my fix here and be transported back to Turkey. Bravo makes authentic simits and I am thrilled to have seven more to enjoy before I head back there for more. It was such an unexpected, cool find. I will go back and get a carbonated imported drink from Turkey, along with some baklava next time. This place also has Turkish delight. It was another weakness that I had developed while in Istanbul. Bravo is so deadly, but so good for Turkish pastries and desserts. (126)
