So from the moment we walked in the vibe was majorly off. We found Jessica to be quite rude she barely introduced herself and just passed us the waiver. We just came to have fun there was no free play. I don't believe she smiled once. I get someone having an off day but that is when you professionally apologize. We drove 2 hours to deal with her stale attitude. After about 45 minutes of her bad vibe I stopped and was stretching and her response was you have about 15 minutes if you are done let me get you out of your harness and you guys can go. We paid $150 for a two person class and after asked if there was a water fountain and she said no but you can buy water for $1. Really $150 and you can't comp a bottle of your off brand generic water?!!! So what to know if she's having a good day ... She has different harnesses some are more comfortable than others. I would not recommend the class if you are looking for fun. I could see it being good for someone who is looking for technique. read more

I've been coming here for years to take aerial silk classes and love it! I've been to a few other studios and this is definitely best place for learning new poses, drops, and sequences. Each class is very personalized, with students taking turns to work on moves suited to their level. The high ceilings are great for learning exaggerated drops. The instructors and students here are very friendly, so I end up having fun chatting and laughing at the awkwardness of Learning new poses. Taking turns also gives you time to take notes in between! Aerials are such a fun way to get in shape. It's a nice self-confidence boost, too, as you learn new poses and get stronger/ overcome fears. Like heights. I love The Aerial Classroom. I've learned so much in only a short time of classes here. I mainly come for Hoop but have started to expand into other apparatuses. There's something to love about each of them and they all provide different challenges. Jessica and Linda are awesome instructors. Arrive 15 minutes early to stretch on your own (if you've been to other schools you'll be thankful that class time isn't wasted on warm up). Classes are 2 hours long so you really get your money's worth. Class is broken up into learning tricks, then putting all the tricks together in a sequence, then doing the sequence to music and practicing making it flow and building up to spinning. This is an awesome awesome place! I've been going here for a year in a half. They offer a variety of circus like classes for a reasonable price. I've only taken the aerial classes and hand balancing classes, but I've only ever heard good things about the other classes like hoop, spanish web, and trapeze. Some things to keep in mind: Jessica is the owner and the head teacher that teaches the aerial classes. I had never taken an aerial class before I started coming to the Aerial Classroom. Because of these classes, I went from not being able to climb the tissue/aerial silk on my own to now being able to do difficult drops and poses that I'd never imagined I would be able to do. My advice would be that if you are serious about learning aerial, Jessica is the best teacher to teach you. She is very helpful, clear, and concise in the way she teaches. The thing I like about her is that she will never let you learn bad habits. She will always tell you when you are doing something wrong or if you can improve your methods. She does this because she cares about your safety. For example, when I first started the class I had some bad habits such as jumping down from the aerial silk when I got tired instead of getting back into my climb and then sliding down. Because of jessica's constant reminder to not do that, I'm not doing it now. Another thing I really like about the class is the conditionally aspect of it. The only way you can become better at aerial is if you condition your body. After each class, Jessica will NEVER fail to make the whole class do this insane arm/ab workout haha. To be honest, as much as I don't enjoy doing 10 minutes of arm/ab conditionally after a 2 hour aerial session, the conditioning is a very important aspect of the class as it's helping you become stronger so you can also have more stamina in your moves. Plus, you're body will look hotter ;). So really if you are at all interested in taking some aerial classes, you should drop by. I've been attending a weekly silk class at The Aerial Classroom for 8 weeks and here is what I've noticed: Week 1: I had no idea what to expect going in. I flopped around on the silks like a pigeon caught in barbed wire. The next day my whole body was sore but the class was fun so I decided to go again. Week 2: Learning new moves. I think I started this 30 years too late to make it Cirque De Soleil but I like it so I'll keep going. It feels like my posture is getting better. Week 3: My clothes are fitting better. I've lost at least an inch off my stomach. Week 4: Very little cramping at that time of the month compared to normal. Week 5: This is addictive, I feel like I need more of this new drug. Every tree I see becomes potentially climbable. Week 6: Come to think of it that pain in my neck and shoulders that was there for years hasn't been there since I started this. Week 7: This might be some kind of Benjamin Button thing because I feel younger. Week 8: Monthly cramping is gone. I feel mentally sharper. I've discovered the fountain of youth. Granted all of these are the effects of exercise, but I find just going to the gym and doing the same thing over and over to be boring. Being a super noob in my Aerial Tissu class of about 8 people, most of my time was definitely spent sitting on mats on the floor watching the others... However, this was not just because of the time spent taking turns but also because I had totally underestimated how hard Tissu would be on my non-existent arm muscles. While I suppose I was glad to have ample time to semi-recuperate between turns + be inspired watching the multiple more advanced students in the class, I'm sure others might not be happy with this use of time sharing the 2 Tissu apparatuses. Mixed feelings. A week later (after much soreness for sure), I took my Static Trapeze class in Van Nuys + can say that I had a much better experience. This time the class was 6 students sharing 1 Trapeze apparatus, + almost all of us were beginners so I felt that Jessica went through more of the basics with us since with we didn't have to share her attention with another student at any given time. I left happy despite my hands + the backs of my knees being incredibly raw feeling. For safety, Jessica assists + spots students that need it in the beginning, but by the end of both classes, not many needed it anymore. There's also a thick, black mat below the apparatuses in case anyone falls... although I'm not sure how much either she or the mat would really help if anyone fell hard or from up high. Chalk + spray are also available to help get a better hand grip. All the class registration, liability waiver, + payment is handled online beforehand, including for Groupon or Living Social deals. I never really knew what 'aerial' meant before coming here. My friend's sister bought a bunch of class credits through a groupon (or some similar deal site), then transferred the classes to us when the credits were about to expire. We took an intro class for the hell of it, no intention of ever stepping through the door again, and while everything was unfamiliar and nerve wracking at the start, I was intrigued enough to come back. After a couple classes with Linda, I started to feel really comfortable on the hammock (comfortable! Not necessarily skilled haha), and that's when I began to love it! I mainly take Tissu now and often make a total fool of myself, but it's so much fun, a GREAT workout (trying to build that upper body strength!), and everyone who comes here is a blast to be around. Jessica, Linda and Sepida are extremely talented teachers and have great personalities. I feel like I'm always laughing and having a good time when I come to class. They teach a number of specialties: lyra/hoop, spanish web, tissu, hammock, trapeze. There's a stretch class. They also have workshops occasionally--a stilt walking one is coming up. And the talent shows and competitions are totally worth checking out when they come around on the calendar. The aerialists (mostly students) always deliver impressive jaw-dropping performances. Classes are typically two hours long. It's less expensive to buy them in bulk, but they do expire, so you have to keep that in mind when making a purchase. 4 classes expire after 60 days, I believe, and 8 classes after 90 days. Once you purchase class credits you can sign up for a specific class via their website or the mindbody connect app (or call). The one downside to the system is that, if you can't make a class and don't cancel like six hours in advance, then you lose the credit. They're very strict with this policy. Class sizes tend to be small, though (a handful of people taking turns over the course of the two hours), so if everyone were to cancel last-minute AND get a total refund every time, I can see how that would be a problem. In the classes I take, there's no stretching beforehand or afterward as a group. You're expected to stretch yourself. Which is fine, just FYI. However, at the end of class there IS conditioning (ab workouts, pull-ups on the apparatus, etc), which makes me want to die lol, but is beneficial and appreciated. Most of these apparatuses aren't EASY by any means. However, once you start to nail the poses and different moves, it's super rewarding! Also, they encourage filming yourself, picture-taking, etc, so you can definitely get those instas haha. If you are coming regularly, I recommend bringing a notebook or some device for taking notes. It's easy to forget which moves you've learned or how to do them after a couple classes and you don't want to have to be retaught every time. Overall, I love this place. I'm glad I stumbled in here and plan to keep coming back regularly for a long, long time. Pro Tip: When you meet Lily, you'll learn your place VERY quickly. Everyone knows she runs the joint. To get on her good side, belly rubs and scratches behind the ears are the way to go. read more

I purchased a Groupon to attend an intro class and loved it! The studio was a little hard to find - on a nondescript stretch of road that feels like you are in the wrong place. The class itself was so fun. It was a small group of us and just one instructor who led us through the basics on each prop in the room (silks, bars, hoops). Unfortunately you only got to practice each move once - so it wasn't much of a work out - since you are left sitting around while others take turns. The downside is the high cost of classes - $35 seems ridiculous for one class. read more

I just took an intro class at the Van Nuys location, and I had a fantastic time. I purchased my class through a Living Social deal. Students sign up for class on the website scheduler, and pay through Paypal. If you have a Groupon/LivingSocial/Zozi deal, there is a link to click with instructions for redeeming your voucher. It is disclosed that the classes are held in the instructor's apartment when you sign up through the website. The confirmation email gives the name of the apartment complex and gives you the entry code for the gate. Clases are offered 7 days a week, which I find helpful because I work full time. I hate it when classes are only offered at 10am on Mondays and Thursdays! Upon arriving at the building, it was easy to find parking (at 4pm on a weekday). I was a little worried about parking because street parking tends to be scarce near large apartments). Thankfully, there was ample parking right in front of the building. The apartment was a 2-story loft, so the living room has enough height to work with. There is one of each apparatus (except there were 2 tissu), so students have to take turns using the apparatus. There were 4 students in my class, including myself, so honestly we needed a minute to catch our breath after climbing to the ceiling. I felt the instructor Jessica was very helpful and gave good step by step instruction. Also, there is a small dog in the house - not aggressive (scared of everything actually), but important to note if you are allergic to dogs. I got a lot out of my first class and am looking forward to my next, which I have already scheduled. I believe a big part of why I got so much out the class is that I am already "in shape" - strong and flexible. I have been dancing for most of my life, and I practice pole dance several times a week. I have lots of experience with climbing activities, and I can do a few pull-ups. Another student in my class was a Zumba instructor/figure skater and she had a great time spinning on the Spanish web. Jessica did spot the students who had less strength and flexibility. I would recommend these classes for people who love to spin, flip, fly through the air... and hopefully you already have good strength and flexibility. If not, the conditioning section of class (or the conditioning class) can help build that strength. read more

My friend and I came here for the first time and we learned so much so fast within two hours! Well, if you're a fast learner. But most people tend to learn the same within the first two hours of their first class. We loved it so much! Aerial tissu will be a regular thing for us. :) Only downside is that this place was really hard to find. Especially since most classes are at night. It just looks like a dark sketchy building. I've been a student here for exactly 1 year now and I cannot BELIEVE how much stronger I've become. I discovered The Aerial Classroom through LivingSocial, and I've been addicted ever since. Though Jessica, the owner, teaches a multitude of aerial disciplines, I've only ever taken the Tissu classes. I come here about once every week or week and a half, though I'd LOVE to come more if it wasn't due to my hectic schedule. The classes here are $20 a pop (if you purchase the 8 Class Pass) and 2 hours, which is cheaper and longer than other places in the LA area. I also love the open level format. As a brand new student, I was able to see the advanced students do more complex tricks, which allowed me to understand what I was working up to, and also once I got to that level of proficiency, I felt less intimidated since I had seen those moves so many times. Jessica is great because she usually remembers what I've been personally working on, so when it's my turn on the Tissu, she can cater to my level of fitness and ability while keeping me challenged. The class size is no more than 12, but I've only rarely seen more than 8 people at a time in her class, and more often than not, there's an average of 3-4 people when I go (usually Wed mornings). When there's around 6 or more people, she'll pull out her second Tissu apparatus and her more advanced students will go at the same time. When I started, January of 2011, I had bare minimum upper body strength. Since doing any tricks in aerial silks first involve climbing up on the Tissu, I gained more strength than I could ever dream of having. I remember in my first class, there were about 7 girls, including myself, and I couldn't make it to the end of the class before my shoulders gave out. They were so tired and ceased to cooperate. Now, a year later, I'm doing multiple tricks per round, and it's inconceivable I would have been able to get to this point! You don't have to PUSH yourself to the brink to get the benefits of this class - the strength and agility will just happen naturally, even if you only come once a week. It's a GREAT workout and it's also TONS of fun. One thing that may not be mentioned on Jessica's website www.theaerialclassroom.com is that she has a (very cute & small) Chihuahua named Lily, who is immensely friendly, but just be aware if you are allergic to dogs. Parking is very easy, as there are always spots outside her building. The class is inside an apartment complex, which seems unbelievable, but Jessica's place has high ceilings and is perfect for the aerial rigs. I've been coming to Aerial Classroom on/off for awhile now and this place is by far my favorite place to learn aerials, Jessica is a fantastic teacher and very attentive. She's great with beginners and I find myself recommending this place to lots of people who are interested in starting silks. The studio is very clean, spacious and the ceilings are very high, so it's a great place for more advance students to practice drops or more advanced moves. Honestly, out of all the places that I have been to, I don't think you'll find a place with higher ceilings. I've been to several other studios in Los Angeles, but I like Jessica's style of teaching the best. She observes each student personally to make sure they are learning safely and the technique correctly. For people who are afraid that some aerial classes move to fast or that you don't have enough time to absorb everything, Jessica makes sure to teach each student at their pace and level which is great. At first I was hesitant because the address takes you to an apartment building, and I thought "how good can a tissu class be in an apartment?" But, when I walked in, it was a two story townhouse, obviously rigged to just be an aerial studio - and very professional. There were about 6 girls in the class, all of various levels. It was great to be able to see the instructor work with the more advanced girls and then modify things and teach basics to us beginners. The class is about two hours, and because the class was small, everyone got several tries on the tissus. I may not be able to move my arms tomorrow, but it was definitely worth it! read more

I don't know why I'm just not writing a review for this place. I've been coming here for about eight months now and I love it. All the instructors are great and it's really empowering to learn skills and tricks you never thought you could accomplish! I've been taking hammock and tissu and while they are both very challenging, it's extremely rewarding. This studio also has nice high ceilings, which not everywhere has! You can learn more drops and moves that way. I also love the class structure at this studio. Having a class mixed with different levels can seem intimidating, but it's fun to watch the other students and it's really exciting when you finally learn a trick you've been watching more advanced students do for weeks or months. Plus, with the 8 class pass classes come out to $25 for two hours, which is the best deal I've found. My only complaint is I can't come to class everyday- I love it that much. read more

Had an awesome first experience yesterday with Ron and Ginger. It turned out to be just me and my friend in the intro class, so it was like a bonus private session! We went through the basics and tricks for tissu, hammock, spanish web, trapeze and hoop. Overall, it was a great workout and I did some things I didn't think I could do. Ron and Ginger were super fun and friendly to work with, that I'm sure I'll be back again sometime soon! Aerial had been on my to-try list for awhile and I'm so glad that I did! Here's what I'd recommend to wear/bring: - Sleeved shirts; no tanks (something long enough to tuck into your pants and fitted, but doesn't have to be tight) - Capri pants or longer (make sure they're fully opaque when you sit/bend over, otherwise wear a pair of shorts over it) - Water - Camera (or make PLENTY of space on your phone!) - No need for sneakers or socks; you go barefoot! (The sleeved shirts and pants help avoid chafing/burns from the silks and rope) We used a Groupon, but since we took the intro class, we were offered a bonus free class if we signed up for a package right after! Highly recommended to give it a shot! Perhaps since it was such a small group of us, it really felt like a 'safe space' to learn these skills for the first time. Today, I'm definitely feeling soreness in my lats, core, forearms and hands - but it was such a great class that I don't mind :) read more

The only reason I don't give it a 4-star review is because of the location. 1. Northridge isn't easy to get to from any freeway. 2. The business is located inside an apartment building which feels a little ghetto. (I'm fine with ghetto, but some people might be turned off by it, the smells of other people's cooking, and dog hair in the room..... just saying...) HOWEVER, parking is great! :) And so are the SUPER TALL ceilings! I've only been on a Sunday afternoon a few times, and will definitely go back for more! The instructor was concise, patient, and seemed to have our safety and ability in mind when suggesting tricks. *I'm putting good for kids, but I should define "Kids." Your child should be able to focus, share the equipment and listen to directions. :) Then it will be good for kids. The instructor didn't give me the impression that she was previously a warm and fuzzy daycare provider, but she was encouraging and handled the children with safety in mind. read more

I'm surprised to see so many positive reviews. The fact that it's hard to find didn't bother me at all. Finding places with ceilings high enough and space wide enough for aerial work is hard. I actually liked the location once inside although it definitely needed some work. The problem was when I showed up I was nipped on the ankles by a little dog--hard. I don't mind dogs in my workshops--although many people do--but you cannot have a dog on scene that bites, barks, and runs up to investigate every single new person to come in. And if you do you need a huge disclaimer somewhere letting people know. The instructor didn't seem to care to me. She spent the whole classroom sitting on the floor and didn't care about technique at all. When I asked her if we should climb up on both sides she gave me a half-hearted "meh, we don't really pay attention to things like that" --things like technique? I didn't feel like she paid any attention to me at all; mostly she was chatting about personal topics when I was on the apparatus. Once again, I don't necessarily mind personal chatting, but if I have to learn/call out YOUR name to get help you're not instructing me and there's no reason for me to be here. A really fun workout! I completed 3 classes (1 intro and 2 tissu). Very challenging but exhilarating. While each student has varying levels of strength and skill, the instructor caters and creates different exercises for everyone. I get nervous with heights but I felt secure enough to complete all of the movements! The location is inside of an apartment, no complaints though. I'd much rather take classes indoors. In my opinion the classes are a bit pricey. They offer a discount on pre-paid packages but they must be used within 90 days. read more

Instructor is knowledgeable and will guide you through your struggle. Never having taken an aerial class before, and having little to no experience in acrobatics (or really anything physically challenging or artistic using my body), I took Jessica's tissu class after purchasing a LivingSocial voucher. I waited until it almost expired before I finally used it and I'm so glad I didn't wait too long! I had an amazing experience. I was one of only 2 students present that day, so I got a lot of time on the tissu and a lot of help and attention from Jessica. I started out so unsure of myself and really discouraged, actually, by the difficulty of the craft. But she (and the other student, a regular) were just so patient and encouraging, they didn't give me a choice but to have faith and confidence in myself. I DEFINITELY recommend Aerial Classroom for anyone wanting to get into aerial work, or even just to TRY IT OUT (like me). You won't be disappointed, and will be greeted with such a relaxed, positive atmosphere. the first class i took here was the intro to aerial class and it was an absolute blast. I fell in love with aerial tissu. I tried a tissu class at an aerial school closer to my house and it was not nearly as good an experience as the one I had at the aerial classroom. After that I came back and took several tissu classes with Jessica and I absolutely love it. Jessica teaches to each person's individual level and organizes which move to teach next based on what would be most beneficial to the student. I haven't been able to attend classes in a few months due to all of my school responsibilities and, quite frankly, my life is worse off without being in class every week. I don't think that there's a single negative thing to say about The Aerial Classroom! I began taking tissu classes with Jessica back in August when my friend, who had been attending classes there for over a year by then, kept trying to convince me to go until I finally caved (I regret not caving in sooner!). I was really scared to try it, I think, because I had virtually no strength nor dance/martial arts background. But let me be the one to deter you from thinking the same thing! Even though I couldn't quite climb on my own until the second or third class, you can see the difference each week that you go (and if you're serious about improving your strength and skills with aerial, you should AT LEAST go once a week). I started taking hoop classes with Linda back in November, and the strength that I gained from tissu really helped with learning hoop. Don't get me wrong - I still had to improve other muscles I wasn't using on tissu for hoop class, which is really great. Just this past week I took static trapeze for the first time, and I really enjoyed it! It truly helped that I've taken tissu and hoop prior to static trapeze, but it was still very different from the other two apparatuses. This is the really fun thing with The Aerial Classroom - you have so many unique classes to take, but at the same time, working at one will help you with another! Here are some of the major pros: - Classes are quite affordable if you buy the 8 class package (with most of the classes being 2 hours long, at $20 a class with the package, it comes out to $10/hour!) - The ceilings are extremely high, which really allows you to do complicated drops (when you get to that level!) from the top of the tissu - unlike other gyms where the ceiling is low and you can't do much - All the instructors (Jessica, Linda, Sabrina, Roxanne) are super sweet, patient, and knowledgeable - The classes are well-structured (warm-up, individual improvement, conditioning, ab workout) - Classes (with the exception of Intro) are all-levels, which is great so you can see more advanced moves or you can refresh the old ones! - The people who take classes (who are also varied in their backgrounds - from dancers to martial artists to newbies like me) are all very nice and encouraging! It's a major contrast from other studios I've seen or heard of where folks can be pretentious and snooty. - Sometimes there are special workshops (i.e. Aerial Straps and Stilts) if you'd like to try something else circus-y and new - The studio holds student shows and themed shows (these are usually for more advanced students), of which the former are great because you can invite friends and family to see what you've learned I could go on and on about this place, but those are the biggest reasons as to why I trek it to North Hills from Koreatown to get my aerial fix! :D read more

Jessica is wonderful! She is so patient and gives everyone a fair chance even if they decide aerial acrobatics is not for them. She pushes you to your limits and helps you achieve, but she understands when your body gives out. I've been taking classes in Van Nuys for almost a year now and am having the time of my life! Tissu class is what I look forward to every week and I plan on learning other disciplines soon; I wish I could go to class every day! Aerial is the most fun and an awesome workout. I really like this place a lot. To me this place has enough class structure so one does not get lost, but isn't overzealous with details that non-professionals can't still have fun and learn. There are fundamentals to work on, but if you want to try something new you can also do that. There is an emphasis on conditioning, but it doesn't go overkill. Classes are open level; the max is 10 people for 2 hours, but I always feel I get something out of classes here. I know some people say that they don't like that there is not a warm-up, but I like it that way; I hate aerial studios that waste 1/3 of the class with a warm-up (that said, I feel pretty comfortable stretching solely, but maybe others aren't). There are rollers and blocks to stretch on under the table. This place also holds rigging workshops (haven't been to one, but am interested), and does aerial productions. Pros - I really like Jessica; her teaching style really works for me and my personality. She's very calm, patient and attentive. When I'm high up and nervous, and the fabric is pinching, a calm demeanor is very reassuring. She's also not overly critical at an unhelpful level. And she's not pushy when you don't feel comfortable doing something. - High ceilings. Maybe I like this place because it was the first place I learned a ton of drops. This is the place to experiment with new tricks/drops and be adventurous. Learned my death drop, diaper drop, angle drop and double star drop here :) - Student/silk ratio (for 2 hours): max 10/2; student/Spanish web ratio: max 8/1; student/lyra ratio: 10/3; student/trapeze ratio: max 8/2. - I don't know where else to learn Spanish web in this area. Spanish is my favorite class here. - I think this place and HAA are the only locations that have 2 hour classes. - I like the feel of the fabric here: It's not too wide, and its stretchy (medium/high stretch?) - Parking is easy on weekends, harder on weekdays. - Out of all of the trapeze classes I've taken, this is the one that is most applicable to me personally in terms of cross-training. - This is a great place to train and get performance experience. I also noted that they have a pre-professional type program (I'm not in it, but I find it laudable that this type of more formalized training program exists). Compared to over aerial studios: - Less formalized/prescriptive than places such as Cirque School LA, Aerial Physique, Kerry Wee - In general, I'm not a fan of open level classes, but this place does it well with individualized attention. People do different things, just not variations for the same combo. You do take turns here, and there is down time waiting for your turn, but its a 2-hour class. read more

I've been to a few different places and this is my favorite. I take tissu/silks. -The ceilings are high so you can do drops (don't be scared, she will never teach you anything you're not ready for). -The classes are 2 hours; everyone takes turns going up. -The classes are mixed levels so you can see what more advanced people are leaning. -If you buy a package, the price is great. -There is parking in the back just for The Aerial Classroom. -Once you've learned some things, you can ask for an Open Gym Membership. Open gym is 1 hour for $10. (It's only for students that have been training with her for awhile.) I would suggest taking the Intro class first. I recently took a few classes here and the instructor was Jessica. It was very disappointing. lf you are looking to train in a supportive and helpful environment with a hands-on instructor, this is NOT the class for you. The instructor (Jessica) sits 90% of the class and has the students demonstrate moves to teach the other students and barely gets up to spot the students struggling. It is a very lazy method of teaching. Pros: -Great space Cons: -Instructor was not very friendly. -No class structure or preparation for class and does not modify moves for different levels. -Students sit on the floor and wait for their turn as the class is taught 1 move at a time, therefore, you are not getting a workout, nor are you getting your money's worth. -With this method of "teaching" the "sequencing" is very mechanical and not fluid. -Instructor does not focus on personal growth for each student or correcting errors. "Point your toes" is not constructive criticism. Knowing which muscles to engage and posture is, but unfortunately, the effort is minimal and these techniques are ignored. -Small dog sheds hair everywhere and is not friendly with all students, which makes walking in the space very uneasy as you are unsure if the dog is going to charge at you like with the other students or be friendly. I would not recommend for students looking to expand and grow. read more

I came to The Aerial Classroom through a zozi certificate I bought with the intention of taking two classes just to try it and move on to other activities. From the first class, I was hooked. Now I take classes several times a week in tissu and hoop and absolutely love it. Here are just a few reasons why: 1. It's a fun, friendly and supportive environment - and that includes instructors and students. I always enjoy the time I spend there. 2. Jessica and her instructors are also skilled performers, and they don't hold back - they'll teach you the same moves you see in their routines. 3. The instructors push you when they know you can do better, but never beyond your limits and never jeopardizing your safety, which is a top priority. 4. If a student is struggling to do a move, the instructors will find another way to explain it or provide assistance to help the student complete the move. They recognize that people learn in different ways and always try to find a way to make sure each student makes progress and has fun doing it. 5. The instructors' patience is infinite. I've tested it! 6. The combination of individual attention from instructors in every class and the opportunity to watch more advanced students really helps students progress. You'll train in the basics first and get lots of repetition on the fundamentals while learning more challenging tricks. Then you'll learn how to string it all together, refine your movements and make it performance-worthy. 7. While I was fairly fit before starting training, I've noticed a significant improvement in my strength and overall muscle tone. 8. Let's face it - it's just cool. :) I learn a lot, I have fun, and I'm in great shape. I even get my mom to go when she's in town visiting. I definitely recommend giving it a try. read more

What an incredible rush! And what an incredible facility and school. I'm one of those customers who bought the Living Social coupon, and I couldn't wait to find out if I was in possession of a latent Cirque du Soleil-esque talent of some sort. Alas, if my first class was any indication, I might be missing that "ability to perform mind-blowing acrobatic feats" gene, but who cares? I still had an amazing time. It was an incredibly grueling workout, and I'm in pretty decent shape. But that's what I was there for. I loved the prospect of trying something unexpected and pushing my body beyond what I thought it was capable of. That said, the instructor Linda was very patient and struck the perfect balance of encouraging me to push myself without overdoing it. (I took the intro class so I could see which apparatus might suit me best.) Linda had a great energy, and was very positive and upbeat. Also, she conveniently had the patience of a saint, which proved to be key in dealing with my repeated fumblings and spazzing out. I walked out of there feeling like a bad ass for simply having pushed myself out of my comfort zone and having tried something SO beyond the norm for me. I will happily return! I actually come from a dance background, and was introduced to aerial tissu as a birthday gift from one of my best friends. I always thought I was too old to take tissu and thought that it was a sport that you learn at a small age, like gymnastics. After my first class I was hooked and have made it a priority of mine to continue with my training. As a dancer, I can recognize a good teacher and I honestly like the way Jessica instructs and gives you the necessary information to grasp the concept of what you are doing in mid air, because believe me, when you are up in the air everything sounds foreign, you can't tell your right from your left, and you need a patient instructor and that is what Jessica is. I've taken classes at other aerial schools and nothing compares to the knowledge that I've gained from the Aerial Classroom. The other schools felt like that instructors would demonstrate tricks and moves that they themselves wanted to show off, without taking into consideration that I hadn't build the strength nor had the knowledge before getting up there, so after every class I felt really defeated and disappointed, and with Aerial Classroom I actually learn what the moves are called and have built on that strength to incorporate into sequences. :D Now, she moved locations to North Hills. This location is way better than the one in Van Nuys. I feel like the ceilings are taller, its uber chic, it's way bigger so a group of 8 fit comfortably on the mat, and when classes get fuller she has enough room to take out a second tissu for everyone to use. A big thumbs up for the improved location. Plus there is parking in the back available ONLY for the aerial classroom so no more fighting for street parking. Yes she has a dog. She is a special little dog who probably wont even like you so that shouldn't even be an issue. :P Yes there also isn't a class warm up at the beginning at class which at first I found a little strange, but as a dancer I didn't need to have a warm-up because I instinctively know that I need to warm my body up before any physical activity. Jessica made a good point once saying that she doesn't do a warm up because she has learned that most schools take up a good chunk of time warming up and very little time on the fabric which is very true! Now, if you don't have any background, then yes, you should learn to warm up and perhaps ask her that you have no idea what body parts to warm up that will be useful in tissu. If flexibility is something you wish to attain then you won't get it through warm-ups, and you should try her stretching class to gain that flexibility that applies to tissu. Now, like I've said before, I am a dancer so I have a few of my splits down, so being told to climb and start bending was no issue for me, but if it's something you want to gain then perhaps loading up on classes is your best bet. I would suggest buying a series of classes. One class is $30(if you sign up online), a 4-pack is $100, and an 8 class pack is $160(do the math, that's an $80 savings!!!) like I've said before, I've gained a good amount of knowledge, strength, and definitely bang for my bucks. If you are someone who wants to take aerials serious then THIS IS FOR YOU. And if you aren't, I do hope that a class from the Aerial Classroom can convert you :D Best Birthday present EVER!!! read more

This is not only my first review, but an odd one. You see, I've been a seventeen year martial artist, a twenty year weightlifter, a competitive surfer/mountain biker, and a 10 year yogi, but only a year of trapeze with Jessica ruined all of that for me. This has become ever more apparent as I sit on the sidelines with an injury (not from trapeze) and can't go until it "totally heals" (non-union rib fracture...in other words...I keep re-injuring it). It's literally depressing. So, don't come here if you love other sports, hobbies, or physical activities, or ever have been absolutely convinced your whole life that you would hate exercise. Because, you're about to only love this and look forward to exercise. If you want to see yourself up in the air in photos doing things you didn't think were possible with a *&%t eating grin on your face the whole time, come for a class. read more

I found out about the class through a promotion from Zozi in February 2010 and never stopped attending classes since. Jessica is a fabulous teacher; her encouragement and enthusiasm helped me overcome my weak core muscles and lack of coordination. Taking the aerial classes have inspired me to diet and exercise regularly to lose weight and improve my fitness level. My coordination and balance are much better now. The continuous strengthening of my core muscles have also helped me become a much better rock climber. In fact, I highly recommend the aerial classes for any rock climbers; it's better than yoga! read more

I took 2 Tissu classes at the Placentia location and loved them!! My husband and I had so much fun. I am a personal trainer and I was sore for a few days afterwards from all the muscles I am not used to using to climb the tissu. Don't worry though it is a lot easier than climbing a rope. The teacher was really funny and did not make us feel uncomfortable at all. Plus there was stretching in the beginning and some conditioning at the end. I took an intro class at the old Encino location. Great apparatuses and patient teachers. Classes are taught on a turn basis. Teacher shows a move and each student does the move one by one. I prefer this way so that each student gets a spot and you can observe each other to improve your own form and technique. And it saves energy for you to get through class. Each class begins with a good warm-up. Took tissue. Lots of upper body strength involved. I admit that I got tangled a few times! Bring friends. Lots of fun, a great workout and a unique experience. read more
