We received a text saying that contactless check-in (due to Covid, even though it's March 2023), meant the door to our room would be left unlocked with the key inside. Given that this is a pitch-dark country roadside motel (under the guise of the name "Inn") , I felt this was creepy. Anyone aware of the check-in system could have been waiting inside the room. I'm a woman, and was travelling with my child. As we approached the suite, we noticed a huge can of cigarette butts perched on the windowsill. The door from outside turned out to be locked, so we entered through the deserted lobby. We found the inside hallway door to our room unlocked. The outside door was jammed. On our second trip though the lobby to bring our luggage inside, two women emerged from behind the front desk (from what appeared to be their home) and announced (in a friendly way) that we'd need to come and go via the outside door to our room because the front desk and entrance were closed 8pm-8am. It was around 8:45pm at the time. I explained that the door to our room was jammed, but they did not offer to check it or put us in a different room, even though we appeared to be their only guests for the night. Next, we discovered what appeared to be a blood stain on the quilt, right where a person would sit. Because we'd been informed in no uncertain terms that the front desk was closed, we simply removed the quilt and turned up the heater, which was extremely loud and smelled of hot dust. There were no extra blankets to be found. When I politely brought these issues to the Inn's attention at check-out, the response was defensive, implying I should have contacted the front desk or done a better job of searching for blankets (apparently housed in the TV cabinet, the drawers of which were also jammed -or painted- shut). Apparently, everything is the customer's fault at the Ashwood. You're probably thinking, why didn't you just cut your losses, run screaming from this apparent dive and find a good, safe hotel? The answer is, freezing rain. I recognize that it's low season in a beach town, but under no circumstances in any season would I be okay with finding a stain like this on a bedspread, with being made to feel unsafe and unwelcome from the moment of arrival or with having to deal with broken/jammed door locks. Before leaving, we walked past the advertised indoor pool, out of pure curiosity. It was out of order, and the hallway leading to it smelled strongly of mold and mildew. The Inn had every opportunity to make this situation right for us. I provided honest, polite feedback. Instead, they took no responsibility, offered no refund, discount or even future stay (as most respectable hotels would have done). My follow-up text (still polite) went undelivered (I assume my number was blocked - they already had my money). This is why I'm choosing to post a public review. Do not be fooled by the cute, beachy-vibe photos of this place. Apart from the stain, it was relatively clean, comfortable and quiet. However, the service we received was nothing short of abysmal. The baby muskrat was cute and harmless, though.

Even upstairs is connect with an open balcony. If that is your thing then great, but not good for young kids as the stairs are dangerous. There is no real beach nearby. There is a small breach in the down across the river but any half decent beach is a 20 min drive. Due to covid, they are only allowing one family to be in the pool per hour which you need to make a reservation. This is a good idea but you really need to plan ahead.

I'll give it 5 stars because it was a great getaway and weekend and the whole town is very friendly! The hotel has charm and the food from the restaurant was awesome. The only constructive criticism is that the second night we weren't offered a way to order breakfast for the Sunday morning, a very minor point for sure. Thanks again we hope to be back!

It is right downtown, so within walking distance to a lot of restaurants and other businesses. Maybe the girl at the front desk wouldn't win Miss Congeniality, but we had no problems with her. She just obviously is not into her job. This is a beautiful, historic building, and frankly much less expensive than the motel we first checked into. Even though we had already paid at the Maple Leaf Motel, this hotel was much, much better, and the Irish pub attached is a definite plus! Pros: - pretty views of the square - comfortable beds! - close to everything downtown - beautiful, historic building (rooms very basic, but spacious) - Irish pub attached Cons: - no coffee maker in the room and continental breakfast is not available until 8:30 am. No coffee offered in the lobby either. - needs soundproofing! We could hear a child running back and forth across the floor above us for about a half hour after we went to bed. - the rooms/furniture really need updating. - front desk staff not welcoming.

Issues with this hotel: The front desk for the most part is…read morenot staffed, so you have to check in through the attached pub and have no way to resolve issues.   We booked and paid for two rooms at Hotel Bedford on HotelsOne in January.  When we checked in to our rooms in early June, an additional fee was added to our credit card which we assumed was a security deposit.  After the charge was not removed prior to posting to our card we contacted the hotel and were told they had no record of being paid by HotelsOne so therefore would not refund us. Since then we contacted HotelsOne and they said that they had in fact paid Hotel Bedford and that they would contact them on our behalf which they did.  They called us back and told us to email the general manager of Hotel Bedford with a copy of our credit card statement showing that we had paid for the rooms through HotelsOne and an additional amount at check in.  They have never responded to this.  We have emailed and called and left messages several times since, but have never been able to reach the GM and no one has called us back.   The hotel itself is very dated and in bad condition (mould in the shower, electrical outlets are so old that when you plug into them the cord falls out again). Would definitely not recommend this hotel.  If I could give negative stars I would.

After shopping and dinner in town we loved walking around the garden and relaxing on the porch in the evening. The historical house is beautiful and inviting. (And doesn't smell musty!) My friends and I shared the Lexington Suite. The room was very comfortable and clean. We had a relaxing and restful night. Since we were the only guests upstairs, we peeked in the other guest rooms. They were all lovely. The host, Barb, was delightful. She was so welcoming and kind. The breakfast she prepared the next morning was absolutely delicious. Even though you cannot book directly through the website, it was easy to contact Barb via email and reserve our room. She was really responsive and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend Inn the Garden.

A mix of the past with a touch of the new... a beautiful mansion turned into a beautiful hotel keeping the warmth of the beautiful wood but updated with modern amenities for your convenience... walking through the front door you can feel the history and can't help but instantly admire and respect the craftsmanship in every detail that was put into the railings, the stained glass and the textures and colours of the walls. That opens the door to an outstanding room with all the same class and elegance of the lobby but with an updated bathroom, a king size bed and all the conveniences of a new hotel from the flatscreen TV to the mini fridge in the desk and an Nespresso machine for your morning or evening espresso... whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner you're looking for, you need not leave the hotel, the House restaurant is every bit as elegant as the rest of the hotel with great service, a classy ambiance and excellent chef driven cuisine... When I expressed surprise, the waitress informed me that it's always a buffet and people just know. I'm from out of town and they knew this when they took the booking, so just tell me. We were immediately seated in the 'wine cellar' not the main restaurant. This was down a flight of stairs which I hadn't been informed of. One of our party has mobility issues, so it wasn't a great start. The 'wine cellar' is basically an empty room that I imagine you hire for private parties, very basic with cheap tables, chairs and black tablecloths (not very festive). We were in this room with a large family group with young children and the kids were noisy and touching everything on the buffet table. One group of 3 older adults just left. We stuck it out with one other table of adults and that family. The food was just ok, but as is often the case with buffets, the hot food was at best warm. The mash potatoes and vegetables were borderline cold and utterly unseasoned. The salmon was overcooked and the beef was 'ok'. Desserts were Costco standard and the kids had already attacked them before anyone else even looked at them. This was a complete, dishonest money grab and it's had left a very sour taste literally and metaphorically. I very much liked the restaurant on my last visit, but this felt grubby and mercenary which means I doubt I'll eat there again.
