Their work and that of their subcontractors was all high quality. Our foreman Gary was a pleasure to work with. He would not accept any shortcuts and wanted to ensure we were happy with everything. We are loving our new kitchen!

The first thing Tom told me when he came over for the first day of work was: "How did you find…read morethese guys? They can't find new customers and all their existing customers aged out/died". We probably should have ran at this point. We had a quote from Johnson Brothers Construction to rebuild our shower that had a leaking drain. Their quote was very competitive ($10k + tax) and they seemed knowledgable enough, so we went with them, aware that things might go over the quoted amount given that every projects has unknown. We did have some unforeseen things happen, requiring an extra day of labor to strengthen the floor and some weirdness about the existing drain setup that was taken care of by a plumber in an hour. Yet, here we are, two months later with a total bill that is well over twice the quoted amount, a tiling job that is sub-par and a lot of finishing touches are still missing. When you hire a general contractor, you expect them to guarantee some level of quality and to advocate on your behalf with subcontractors. In our case, the tiling subcontractor not only did a horrible job, but also tried to increase the cost for some work we already sign-off on and way over ordered one of the types of tiles (that we had to pay for). In the end the subcontractor fixed as much as they could short of redoing the whole floor, but we were the one fighting for it and inspecting the work. JBC just stood by. JBC also had two subcontractor give us quote for some drywall for a transition strip. Their interfacing between these subcontractors is essentially a series of screenshots of iMessage conversations they have with those subs. I made it clear to the drywall sub that I wanted quotes for the different parts of the job. He gives us one opaque quote with possibly an extra $100 (??). The transition strip sub, what we hear is that he'll come by by the end of next week. Saturday comes and he is no where to be found. JBC gave no updates along the way. I could also talk about their opaque billing practices, how they're charging for labor hours that don't seem to line up with what I can see on my front door camera. Or how they have 3 guys show up for the same amount of time and yet one of them is charging for an extra half hour? Honestly I could go on and on. We definitely regret going with JBC for our job. I should have heeded my gut feeling when Tom said what he did. You definitely should.

Their fixed bid included removing the window trim and the siding around the window to fix the leak, and to replace the window trim and siding with new materials. They removed the window trim only and then told me that the issue was with the window flashing. So they reflashed the window and replaced the window trim. They did not remove or replace any of the siding. Even though they were only at my house for 3 hours (and that included a trip to the lumber yard for supplies) I foolishly paid them $750 for this work. A few days later after a heavy rain the window leaked again. I called them and asked them to come back. I continued to call and leave messages every 4 or 5 days and finally got someone to answer my call. They said they would come out in a week. Another few weeks went by and they still had not come out. I continued to call and email. Finally when I got in contact with them they said that the $750 was for that work only and they would not credit any of that amount to continue to search for the leak, even though their original bid was going to include siding removal and replacement. They were not willing to do the remainder of the work that I had paid for on the original bid. Here's my breakdown of what it cost me: $100 materials (my estimate) 2 people's labor at $108/hour for 3 hours -------- $750 It does not take two people to replace 4 pieces of wood around a window. We coordinated with him to have our hot tub hard wired upon delivery. He came days before the delivery date, on time, to see what the situation was and what all he might need, gave a fair estimate, spelled out possible reasons it might be more, and explained everything in terms I understood. He returned the day of delivery to get things rolling before the hot tub was delivered and kept me appraised of his progress, including the snag that he warned me could happen (old, underground conduit inhibiting the pulling of wire). He finished up, I filled and heated up the hot tub and was in it the next night. Plus he followed up a few days later to make sure everything was good. Bottom line, he was professional, courteous, on time and an all around good guy.

Additionally, there was no flexibility on the scheduling. He decided on the day and time, and if I needed another day due to work obligations, he said he'd charge me extra for it. On top of that, there was no transparency when creating the estimate (which came 3 weeks after our initial meeting). Finally, he absolutely wrecked our bathroom. There were stains all over the floor and toilet from his personal usage during the construction. I had to hire professional cleaners to help get rid of it. I wouldn't recommend Jensen Contracting to any homeowner at least. Pricing is high, there was no flexibility, and he didn't care about the state of our living space during construction.

I asked for a quote and sent photos of the job (repairing some door trim that was heavily scratched…read moreplus replacing two baseboards in a small office). Very minimal work. He quoted me $250. Then he said $300 including materials. Then when he showed up he said it was $425 because he had to factor in the cost of driving to Home Depot. Then in the end it was $550 with tax! Over double the original quote. He also never showed up on the scheduled day so I had rebook. When he finally showed up on the rescheduled day he was a half hour late. Then he didn't even finish staining the door trim when he left. Oh, and he was messy and ended up getting wood filler residue on my door that now must be sanded off and restained. The baseboard job was fine. But the door trim repair was shoddy. That, coupled with poor communication and constantly increasing costs, makes me NOT recommend Giovanny.

Summary: Below DIYer work quality, dishonest and opaque…read morepricing, delays, and bad communication. If you value your time, think twice before working with Giovanni. Picture says a thousand words. I will leave you as the judge for the quality of work from Giovanni base on my photos. Detail: First thing I want to call out is the dishonest pricing. The initial estimate with $720-$800 for seven tasks. Then I was told there's $100 additional material fee. I didn't care, thought it's reasonable. Three tasks were "done" (omitting quality discussion here), he came back another day and ask me for another $400 ($150 for extra material and $250 for labor). I asked him to show me what he's purchased but he never show me the receipt. At the end we mutually agree to not do the last task and he will refund me $250. As of today, he still owe me $250 and it's impossible to get a hold of him now... Another call out is during the process I get tons of last minute delay and no-show. I get all sort of excuses: rain, previous job overran, phone broken. If your job is time critical, please be super careful. My final conclusion: If you have 1) very non-critical job that is 2) not urgent, and you 3) don't care much about quality and 4) have plenty of time to communicate, you can hire Giovanni for his somewhat low price.
