This is a spot that I swear I went to like 20 years ago and it was way more fun. Now it is just a collection of alien themed displays behind cages or glass. You can take photos, but no real interactive aspect to it (which is what I remembered from it from long ago). It is fine, but it is a little boring. It is definitely for tourists of little ones. Not counting our hotel , or shopping or eating , this was the activity we spent the most money on in our time in Roswell, and it was by far the least worth it. I was really taken aback because of all the good Yelp reviews. I don't know if I am missing something or I came on a bad day but this is definitely not worth it in my opinion, especially when there are so many other fun things to do close by. When you enter The Alien Zone there is a tiny gift shop in the front and the girl behind the counter was watching a movie on her laptop. We asked for two tickets and paid $17.32. She pointed to the curtain and said "You're fine to go back and check it out. You can touch all of the props and take pictures." Once we walked through the curtain, I thought we were getting pranked. There was a wall full of toys like aliens and rats and spiders but they are all behind netting that has been zip tied together, so you can't touch any of it. Then you see a few displays with aliens that look like they are left over from some old escape room or something. Underwhelming is an understatement. We figured since we had already paid, we might as well try to have some fun, but it is so dark in the room that It's difficult to get a good photo. There are only two rooms and once we got into the second room it got really really warm. At the very end they have a lab coat that you can put on for photo ops I guess but we were literally sweating, so we just left. If you are reading reviews to decide which things are worth doing and which things are not, definitely put this on your not list. The UFO spacewalk is just a block or two away, it's less expensive, and way more fun. There are also plenty of alien photo ops all around the city, including the visitor center, that don't cost a penny. read more

This place ruled! It's a fun tourist spot for all sorts of silly alien photos. There were quite a few "sets" and photo ops, which were all pretty funny. We were laughing the whole time. It's the cheesiest, most fun, most important thing to do in Roswell. It's set up with various clever, alien-studded vignettes you're expected to use as photo ops. Really original entertainment, not too expensive. After going myself, I've sent family members here who had a blast and were grateful for the recommendation. read more

This place is more of a tee shirt shop and they do have a museum that we didn't go in. The shop has lots different shirts to choose from. In the back there are some props you can get pictures with and check out. The town has lots of aliens to get pictures with. The McDonald's even gets into the craze. read more

It is very cheesy but so is Roswell! I had read the bad reviews, yes it is cheesy but for $5 a person ($3 a kid under 5 free) what do you expect. We love the alien props especially the one where you can pretend you are upside down. The hours on yelp are wrong. Google the store and look at the official website. The day we came yelp said 10 am but store website said 11 and they opened at 11. It was a great, super cheesy ending to our Roswell adventures and my kids loved it. If in wheelchair, you may have issues going through. While areas to take photos wrre fun and made for great shares, the area was VERY dirty. There was an oder and the floor looked as if it were 50 years old and not cleaned since. Because of people who like to vandalize, there was a lot broken and torn up scenes. We had done this years ago and it was cleaned and well kept, not sure what has happend but you leave feeling kind of icky. read more

Good place to take pictures and get some souvenirs. This place needs some serious revamping as many of the props have broken parts or some are just really dirty/worn out. There's an alien cafe in the back of the store but I'm not sure if it's only for show or if actually serve any food. The play area for kids was also closed when we went. It's pretty much impossible to rate a place like this. The rating includes paying a few bucks to see the back. It's cheesy and pretty unkempt. Sections haven't been dusted in years. Old styrofoam packing inserts are used as "alien ship" parts all over. Old PC motherboards and random tech items of the 80's are placed all over. Then, throw in some plastic green aliens, and you have everything needed for a kitschy tourist trap. At least, given the options, in Roswell, it's required viewing. read more

Just went to Roswell for a trip. This place is okay. The play ground is down for the kids. And very dusty everywhere. But the silence kind killed it for me in "Area 51" looks like it is under maintenance. read more

I was SO excited to come here because of all the fun pictures that I saw online. However, this place is definitely lacking some love of the business. The back room cost $2 per person to be able to take pictures with the alien displays, which was really inexpensive. The thing that bothered us the most was the lack of care in this room. They really have a great thing going, if they would just give the room a small facelift and do a little maintenance on the displays. It appeared that a lot of lights were burnt out and the props were really worn. The carpet and floor was gross and smelled moldy. It just lacks some much needed TLC! Don't get me wrong, it was still fun to see and take pictures with, but they need to spend a little money and upgrade what they already have and maybe add a new feature to keep old customers coming back. Stuff will get old, worn and dirty, and you have to keep it up and maintain it to keep the customers coming in. The front area could use more souvenirs too. They mainly had t-shirts, if that's what you're looking for. This place really should be just as busy as the UFO Museum is; the content, product and upkeep just isn't there, like it is in the UFO Museum. I. Love. This. Place. Hopefully I'm posting under the correct location, because this is the one alien location i wanted to visit. I'm so glad i did. Thanks to the yelp suggestions, it was only $1. Are you freaking kidding? Picture/selfie central with lots of cute alien props and sets. I came here by myself with a selfie stick and had as great of a time as the families and couples around me. Ive never admitted owning a selfie stick prior to this post, but i wanted those traveling by themselves to know they can have just as much fun solo. I would definitely bring other people back here to experience the awesome. The gal working the front desk didn't seem overly friendly, but that's ok, i did not come here for her. The location on the map and the picture of the entrance didn't quite match. Just look for the Alien Zone which is further away from the Subway on the Main strip. There will be 1-2 alien souvenir shops then this location next to it. Walking in there's a bunch of random toys and things to purchase. Not what i expected and almost walked out thinking i had the wrong place. Go past the kids play area and it'll be behind that on the right hand side. It's a dark area and you'll think you shouldn't open the door, but that's the correct place!!! read more

When you are in Roswell you want to take pictures with aliens or at least get some souvenirs. This is probably one of the biggest in town and right there on the main street a few blocks from the museum. You can find many unique designs of shirts and they have an instagramable area in the back where you can take pictures. It is very cheesy, but that's why you are visiting Roswell. read more

If you're a history buff looking to learn something new about Roswell, do not go here. This place is not educational -- it's campy -- and it's meant to be that way. Although I wouldn't make a special trip to Roswell (it's an odd, dusty small town with a lot of nice but zoned-out, pothead-like people), if you are planning a road trip that allows for the opportunity to pass by Roswell, then definitely stop by the Alien Zone. The Alien Zone is a souvenir store with "Area 51" (details below) located in the back of the store. Please note that on 8/26/11 (when I went) there were two Alien Zones within a couple of blocks from one another. One was shut down and the other was still running -- make sure that you go to the correct one. For a measly $3 per adult, Area 51 allows for all day free-reign use (including in and out privileges) of various props and set designs featuring aliens. In other words, Area 51 is the perfect place for those looking for a great photo opportunity. Thanks to Area 51, I now have pictures of me getting out of an alien space ship, using an outhouse next to an alien, being de-pants by an alien at a bar, kicking back at an after party with aliens, riding around town on a motorcycle with an alien, at a phone booth with an alien, bbq'ing with aliens, etc. Although the place allows for all day use, I think the average joe would only spend a few minutes here. There's no air conditioning in Area 51 (although there is in the rest of the store) so we were sweating up a storm and the place is musty and dusty but, again, it is great fun! You can experiment with pictures and set ups (please put things back where you found them if you do move them around -- the store attendant told us about problems they were having with the theft and misuse of props which was just sad). But if you like to laugh at yourself and have fun being a bit inventive, then this might become one of the best places in town. I have included some (definitely not all!) photos to give you an idea of some pictures you can take. If you still can't come up with ideas, there are also photos strewn around the store that were sent in by other customers. read more

This place is pretty cool. We stopped in Roswell because we wanted to see what the alien hype was about. In looking at reviews we chose this place because it said it was friendlier. If you are looking for real history on aliens, you will not find it here by looking around. The exhibits are more for fun rather then education and history. So with all that being said why 5 stars. If you take the time to chat with the owner, you will get more information and a better experience then the museum. Most people come in and don't want to take the time to chat with the owner and in that respect, you may not feel like this place was worth the time. It all depends on what you are looking for. We wanted history and someone to chat with who knows the stories and has had real experiences and this owner has a lot to share and the time spent was not a waste. The back room with the alien photo ops was kind of cool, the real history comes from the owner. If you want something more, buy some books he has there. You can pass on all of this. Wander to the back and you sit with aliens in the seemingly abandoned restaurant area. And check "photo with alien" off your "things to do in Roswell" list. THEN pay the $3 to enter Area 51 to take ridiculous pictures in ridiculous alien settings. This is WELL worth the $3. If you're into goofy stuff like that.
