Fantastic pizza spot! Menu is small but curated well and all of the dishes we had were made to perfection. Calamari was seasoned well and very fresh and tender. The charcuterie had high quality meats and cheese with a grilled bread. And the pizza was so good! I forgot to take a picture because we dove right in. The crust was soft yet had a super crunchy bottom. It's a cute Italian feeling ambiance and the servers were very attentive. Definitely want to come back to try their soft serve some time as well! read more

The pizza was crisp yet had a wonderfully chewy crust. Good quality cheese / ingredients. Salads were delicious and complex - yet quite small for the price. It's back! A Covid-victim returns after much too long a break. It's The Alley, the Betsy Hotel's wonderfully casual pizza and more store. It's a cozy nook tucked into the alley between Collins Ave and Ocean Drive that offers great people-watching at the same time. The atmosphere is quiet and intimate. The service is personal and great; Nicholas was our server who had great recommendations. I started with the Italian mojito, not overly sweet. My husband has the carajillo which I could have drunk all night. We shared the calamari friti and the arugula, fennel, avocado salad. The calamari came out piping hot and super crispy. I did want more of the delicate fennel on the salad. We also shared a white pizza topped with the mushrooms and onions recommended by our server. The crispy crust was perfect. And we saved room for the dessert. My husband especially enjoyed the banana-misu (too creamy for me). The simple vanilla ice cream with candied orange was best for me. Welcome back! read more

After a long closure, finally this place has reopened and luckily it is a few blocks away from my house. The main reason to come here is the pizza, and yes the pizza is good. We had the ... it was good even if a tiny bit soggy, but I would select a better cheese combination to mesh better with the truffles and the mushrooms. The .... Was good with a nice crispy crust. It is a very nice place, and it was almost empty. The place is steps away from Ocean drive, a very touristy and busy area, but it is not on ocean drive , so why I will pay the same Ocean drive prices, without the view and the atmosphere. My recommendation , lower the price of the drinks and make daily specials so people come to enjoy the pizza, which is good and well priced. It will help to keep the place busy and with a great vibe to attract patrons. I liked the place and I think it has a lot of potential . Located behind The Betsy Hotel, The Alley is such an amazing spot on South Beach. If you didn't know it was here, you could miss it - but really - you should NOT miss the Alley. It is absolutely delicious. It's a small restaurant, so if you're planning on going during a busy time I would make a resi. On to the food - where do I even start?! The starters are divine - but the standouts for me were the octopus and the Tuscan Kale salad. If you love pizza - this is a great spot to grab some pizza. I am not even a crust person, but I eat every single bite here. The spicy pepperoni is amazing. Pro tip - they offer dipping sauces on the side and this one goes great with the creamy gorgonzola sauce. I've also had the clam pizza, a pizza with shrimp and pesto, the mushroom, and I have not been disappointed. And the pastaaaaa! The Malfaldine which is their version of cacio de pepe is divine. The noodles are made fresh and you can taste it in their bite. The service here is super friendly, and you can tell the staff takes pride in the food. Which, they should because it is great! Great food, not-so-great service. I met up with some friends on Sunday evening, and was not surprised to see the restaurant super busy. My friends already had a reservation and table so we didn't have to wait. It was a little tricky to find since it is located on the side of The Betsy but we managed! Once we arrived we decided to order a bottle of red wine and split a bunch of dishes! We ordered the whipped ricotta, calamari fritti, pipe rigate, zucchini e rucola, crab prostini, and boucher pizza. The waitress didn't write down our order, and with the long list of dishes I was impressed! We didn't have to wait too long for our dishes, but the waitress did bring double of the pipe rigate which was incorrect. It was an easy fix though and everything else came out correctly. My favorite dishes were the pipe rigate and the whipped ricotta. The pipe was a pretty heavy order and I kept grabbing more! The ricotta was fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth, and oh so savory! The items I would pass on was the calamari and the crab prostini. I found the calamari to be a bit weak in size since there was almost more zucchini than calamari. The crab I felt was lacking in flavor, it was one dimensional and a bit anti-climactic. We finished by ordering the tiramisu which was more cream than anything else, so it was not my particular favorite but if you like cream you might enjoy this. All in all, the food was a solid 5/5 even though some items were not my favorite. I deducted 2 stars because I hate going to a restaurant and feeling as if I shouldn't be there because the service makes me feel that way. Maybe our server was stressed but she seemed upset at us for no reason. If I wanted great food I would order Postmates, but I came here for the experience and unfortunately it was lacking. read more

Wonderful Italian food just off the beaten path. Stone fired pizza, fresh made pasta, and homemade gelato. It is a very tough combination to beat. Add to that a descent wine selection, basic cocktail options, and a friendly staff and you are well on your way to an amazing night. The food was prepared quickly and was quite tasty. The only critique I would have involved the tuna crudo which was chaired around the edges. The charring takes away from the melt in your mouth texture of a delicious fresh tuna loin. I'd heard about The Alley from a couple of friends who live near it. I figured I'd burned enough calories at a Miami Music Week event nearby, and decided to stop in and carb up for recovery. (After all, the song is called EAT, Sleep, Rave, Repeat ;) Walking a few blocks past the usual Ocean Drive circus and down a literal alley and past a cool egg-looking sculpture there are the string lights and the entrance to an industrial looking little cafe. Since I was rolling solo, I took a seat at the bar to start off with my rum drink, their Milan Sour (Mt Gay Black rum, amaro, egg white, red wine and berries.) My cocktail was actually pretty strong and tasty. Next up came my meatball appetizer. The meatballs were tender, flavorful and with a good amount of sauce and fresh greens and baguette. Easily 4 stars, right, until there was a bit of a wait between my appetizer and the pizza I ordered. The pepperoni personal size pizza was worth the wait. I liked that it was well done (crispy, thin crust) and plenty of small pepperoni. My gelato dessert was nicely presented with a waffle. So why only 3 stars? Well if you regularly follow my reviews you know how I feel about automatic gratuities. The Alley charges 20%. May that have been why the delay and I had to check on my pizza? 5 stars for this cute, hidden gem in (surprise) the alley next to The Betsy Hotel. We stopped in here because we had a serious pizza craving mid-SOBEWFF that needed to be satisfied. The restaurant is a bit smaller than most in the area and tends to get busier in the evenings and weekends, but don't let that deter you from stopping by. This spot is a must visit if you're craving Italian cuisine. So to avoid the wait, make a reservation. Between the four of us, we ordered and shared the tuscan kale salad, malfaldine pasta (their take on a cacio de pepe), shrimp scampi pizza, and the spicy pepperoni pizza. We basically licked each plate clean, no salad, pizza, or pasta was left behind. The star of the table for me was the malfaldine pasta, I could've eaten a whole pot of this if I could; it was absolutely delicious. Both pizzas and the salad were fantastic as well. As with most places in SoBe, I'd expect the prices to break the bank, however The Alley is super affordable. From the service to the quality and prices of the food, I was very impressed. This is a rare instance though, that I refuse to deduct any stars based on service bc at the base we had service and the food makes up for it. We all ordered a sharing menu, portions are large here so I highly recommend this method (as usual). Bites: The "Boucher" Pizza - yummooooo do it Calamari Fritti - I usually skip Calamari but its a great dish and the sauce is to die for Zucchine e Rucola Salad - I LOVE THIS. GET IT. Pipe Rigate Pasta - If a pasta could be more perfectly al dente, I wouldn't believe it. This dish was killer. Sips: We shared a bottle of wine that was nice and light - I do believe it may only be wine and beer available. The Alley is a really chic modern Italian restaurant with an open kitchen format. The service was absolutely great and all of the food came out within good timing. - Appetizer: Whipped Ricotta and Zucchini E Rucola (this blew my mind at how AMAZING it tasted!!), - Pasta & Pizza: Funghi & Tartufo, Sorpressata Piccante, Charred Kale, Mafaldine, Pope Rigate, Spaghuetti Pomodoro, and grilled broccoli on the side - Dessert: Tiramisu After dinner everyone moved to the coffee lobby for some caffeine fix. First of all, the food is stellar. Get the food from this place, you do not diet here. A friend went to the Welcome Back Elite event here and raved so much about its food, we had to come here to taste it. But we all know that dining at a restaurant is not just about eating the food, or else we'd all just stick to takeout and delivery. I made a reservation and showed up on time here with a friend last night, waiting for two more friends to come. We were seated and given menus, but our server, or any staff for that matter, did not come to our table or ask to start us off with drinks or anything. My friend remarked that it was like they were purposely trying to avoid eye contact with us every time they passed by our table. Sure, it was 7:30 PM on a Sunday night in South Beach, so it was reasonably busy, but then why accept a reservation if you're too busy to tend to the people you seat? I expected to be asked to wait for all of our party to show up before being seated, which I would have understood completely. Being seated has an expectation of being served, no? When my other two friends joined us and we decided on the bottle of wine and food to order, our server took our orders without writing anything down. Whenever a server does not take notes or repeat back orders, I get super nervous that the order will be messed up. The one oddity was that she brought two of an order, the pipe rigate, when we had ordered one ("We'd like to share two entrees, the pipe rigate, and a pizza.") Our orders, about 6 in total to share, practically all came out at once in rapid succession, because there was no conversation about when to have each kind of dishes. But we assumed that if you order appetizers, they come out first, then the entrees come out after the appetizers are done.... The whipped ricotta is a magical creation of a creamy spread, perfect with the fluffy on the inside, crisp on the outside thin focaccia. I love the complementary taste of the olive oil with the ricotta, but the ricotta by itself is lovely, because it stood its own in flavor without needing any seasoning. The calamari fritti was a standard dish but had a nice touch with the fried zucchini slices that came with it. The chili aoili played a solid role in bringing it together. Although I think that the presence of the zucchini made it look like there was more calamari in the basket than there was; one of my friends was looking sadly into it finding that there wasn't any more calamari left. The peekytoe crab crostini was a filling crab salad piled on a thick slice of multigrain bread. It was satisfyingly crab meaty and a little more mayo-y than expected. (Great to share though, if you have it all by yourself you will be full.) The zucchine e rucola is a masterpiece example for everyone trying to figure out how to utilize raw zucchini noodles. The Parmesan, sliced almonds and perfect ratio of creamy dressing to zucchini made it such a great standalone dish that I forgot it was listed as a "salad." The pipe rigate was a huge hit for all of us. The veal bolognese was seasoned well with delicious ripened tomatoes and blended thoroughly with the rigate. The pasta was almost too al dente for me (and I'm the type to cook boxed pasta for only 5 minutes), but I know it needs to hold up against the softer, wetter bolognese. The "Boucher" pizza was unexpectedly thick and cheesy---props to the restaurant for not being afraid to add some thickness to their pizza, with mozzarella cheese! The crust contained caraway, which provided a distinct, earthy aroma to the slice and added another dimension to the mozzarella and prosciutto love affair. It took an entire quarter slice for me to realize I had thoroughly enjoyed a sauce less pizza! The tiramisu can be passed on---it was essentially a mound of thick cream containing a thin soaked lady finger layer. The cream overtook the coffee and cocoa flavors of the dessert. Our server brought my dining impression from super hyped to "I'm so sorry I am here and am intruding on your existence." She had a continuous bored, condescending look behind the tiny smile she had plastered on when she was taking our orders, serving our dishes, pouring our wine and taking our plates away. One of my friends thought she even seemed angry for no reason. She asked whether we wanted another bottle of wine since our bottle had a small amount left. My friend said, "I think we're good, you can just pour the rest of that into those two empty glasses," and our server poured the rest of it into one glass as if she were dumping it out. It is such a shame that the staff do not seem to like working here and seem to be taking it out on their diners. I would return just because of the spectacular food, in hopes that they have different staff or just basic service. read more

The Alley is the best Italian eatery in SB. I said it! The atmosphere is intimate and romantic -- you can go for a sweet date or a late dinner. The food here is absolutely delicious, authentic, and fresh. We ordered: - Whipped Ricotta - Short Rib Pizza - The Tuscan Kale Salad Each dish was phenomenal. I've had whipped ricotta before, however their fresh and delicately-seasoned version puts it at the top of my "best whipped ricotta" list. The short rib pizza is currently on special and not typically on the menu -- and it should be the reason you decide to take a last-minute trip to Miami. The meat was so tender, and the overall pizza was perfectly baked. Lastly, the salad could make anyone cry - it's SO good. I never knew about this hidden gem until recently. It's a cool spot in the alley between Ocean & Collins at the Betsy Hotel. I'm glad we ordered a good portion of the menu because everything was good. The service was great as well. We started with the whipped ricotta with rosemary focaccia and zucchini & rucola salad. Those were great. Then we had a few pies: the funghi & tartufo, the soppressata, and charred kale with Gorgonzola. This place makes real pizza. I was impressed. Then came the pasta dishes. The mafaldine was a unique twist on cacio e pepe. The pipe rigate had a nice veal shoulder bolognese. And the spaghetti pomodoro was as expected. Of course the wine was flowing as well. The alley had just what we needed, unique but also deliciously safe food. The whipped ricotta with crispy and lightly seasoned (salt and chili flakes) bread was excellent; possibly one of the best appetizers we've eaten. Next we moved to a classic caccio de pepe, but the house made mafaldine was a treat :) however because of the shape it did retain a lot of the peppercorns and was a bit spicy. Best meal of our trip!! It's a hidden gem and if I was from the area I would have a hard time sharing this place for fear it would become too popular and lose its charm. Food was a SLAM DUNK--all our four meals were 5star dishes. The saffron seafood is dish is INSANE. MIGHT BE MY FAVORITE MEAL OF 2019!! Pasta dishes were so good--Veal pasta was outstanding (and I'm not a veal eater) pizzas were just off the chain good. The crust is buttery, light and charred perfectly. When we realized how long we had been waiting for, I asked for my Server to only be told that he would be with us in the next 5 minutes. After 15 minute we got up and left. It was absolutely delicious. We got two pizzas and two entrees. Safe to say I tried a bit of everything. My favorite were the entrees. The pizzas we're good but they weren't the best. We got the mushrooms one and the pepperoni pizza. It was good, but I would only go back for the entrees. The entrees were the Mafaldine and Pipe rigate. The mafaldine was amazing! And the pipe rigate was just as good. Dessert was good! We ended up getting the gelato. Two different flavors in one bowl, chocolate and sea salt caramel. Good, but nothing crazy. Firstly, I love the name of The Alley because it is what is is, in an Alley! The decor of the place was very cute, and there were rows of lights that hung from the ceiling. My bf and I were fortunate to get the last table although we did not reserve beforehand. Let's talk about the food! We got the "Boucher" pizza, which was simple and had prosciutto, some cheese and parm on top. I think that the pizza would be better off if there was tomato or basil on it, but I understand why they kept it simple. The Crab Crostini, came with a heaping of crab and I think arugula on top of some really nice bread. The olive oil provided complimented the both the bread and the crostini well, and gave the bread the richness only olive oil is unique to. The noble Roman drink tasted like straight vodka, but I expected nothing less from a name like that. Our waiter was really nice, but I deduct one star because our table was full and one of the lady staff gave us attitude when we asked for a plate to be taken away. OH! The pasta and pizza are very good... Top notch. The crust and flavorings are particularly good on the pizza, and the Bolognese sauce was very tasty and balanced. The homemade pasta rigate in Bolognese (meat sauce) is delicious, but actually are more like "lumache rigate" than "pipe rigate". The bread that they serve with meatballs and as the bruschetta is excellent. However, the eggplant bruschetta was not liked by the table as the eggplant flavor was lost and too little eggplant. One remark is too much pepper is used to many different places; and in particular the Shisito pepper did not complement the four cheese pizza, and the pepper in the egg plant was too pronounced. A special note goes for the meatballs and the marinara sauce... Do yourself a favor and get these delicious veal/mortadella meatballs. They are amazingly good. read more

No brunch! I came here on a Sunday afternoon hoping to have some French toast. I was a little confused upon entering, as there is no host's station by the alley entrance (it's a pretty cozy space). But once I was seated, they informed me that they no longer serve brunch. So instead I had some typical Italian fare and it was delicious! Simple and relatively inexpensive, but very filling. A service fee is already included in the check. My server Joanny was very sweet. Brunchlessness aside, I would recommend if you're looking for a place near South Beach that is a little more tucked away and not crowded. read more

My husband scouted this place out while I was getting ready in the hotel room. It was tucked away off of the main strip in a cool, little building. We entered and were seated right away. The waitress was very friendly. We looked over the menu and decided on calamari for an appetizer and two little pizzas, the Quattro Formaggi e shishito and the "Boucher". We enjoyed our drinks while we waited for our food. The calamari came out and was pretty good.. nothing spectacular, just your standard calamari. The two pizzas came out and they looked and smelled delicious. The Boucher was the better of the two but I felt like it's flavors were lacking. The FMS was good for the first slice but then was a little too overwhelming/pungent for me (hubby liked it). The crust was exceptional on both, I will admit! We came across this restaurant just walking through an alley on our way to Starbucks. We briefly looked at the menu and quite rapidly decided that we would have dinner here later on that evening. A few hours later, we went in to have dinner. And let me tell you, the experience with the waiter and his genuineness made this a dinner for the archives! (I believe his name was Wally) After being introduced to the restaurant and the pastas of the day by the waiter, we were ready to order. The cheese board we had as an appetizer was phenomenal!! We wanted to try all the cheeses on their but as a conscious decision, settled for the taleggio, pecorino al tartufo and the quadrello di bufala. We then had one of the pastas of the day (of which I do not remember the name), it was simple yet a symphony of flavor. And we couldn't come here and not have a pizza, so we shared the San Marazano. At first it appeared to be a simple Margherita pizza but as soon as the first bite was taken, there was a crust of Parmesan cheese that tied the whole pizza together. To complete this wonderful experience, we couldn't leave without trying the tiramisu. To simply put it, it tasted like my Italian grandmother's homemade tiramisu. The food alone at this place would have given it a 5 star review. But the dynamic of the waiting staff and being checked on in between dishes really put this place above and beyond. Part of The Betsy Hotel, The Alley has its own vibe. The location in an alley between two buildings makes it unique and unexpected. We had a great dining experience. It is a popular spot so resis are recommended. Service was friendly and professional. They have a full bar with some drink specials on the menu. The food was delicious. We started with some crispy and light calamari. The pizza was one of the best I've had. The crust is good enough to eat alone. They offer dipping sauces for the pizza. Gorgonzola cream was yummy. The seafood pasta was very flavorful and had a good amount of seafood. We ordered extra focaccia bread to dip! We enjoyed the casual ambience and location. Will go back soon! read more
