I visited Lucali Miami in advance of a cruise and to no small degree planned my day around dining here! So my very high level of anticipation may certainly be partially to blame for my average-ish experience. I was pleasantly surprised to get a table with no wait at ~6:30 on a Wednesday evening. Staff were attentive and friendly. Prices were high, as expected, but at least the pizzas are of reasonable size. The $32 pasta portion probably could've been a bit more generous. But anyway, on to why we're all here - The Pizza: The crust had a great crunch but I felt lacked nuance beyond that, no chew and a touch on the dry side. Cheese and sauce were fine but also unremarkable. The heaps of basil provided some bright freshness that was definitely appreciated. The pizzas left a bit to be desired. The crust is similar to that of a burnt cracker. It's not very doughy and is a bit too crispy relative to the New York style pizza I grew up having. The toppings were hit or miss, with my favorites being the pepperoni, prosciutto, and sausage, and my least favorites being the arugula and the meatball crumble. The service was quick and attentive without being overbearing, and the ambiance was cozy yet elegant. This one of my husbands and I favorite restaurants. It is super consistent. Every visit has been spot on. I usually avoid ordering pasta, it's just not my thing but their spicey 3 cheese fusili is killer! We love the pepperoni pie with onion. Sometimes we'll let the server pick our toppings just to experiment. Their Kale Caesar is delicious as well. Highly recommend the Mozzarella sticks. See cheese pull featured on photos. What's really neat is that this a NY based restaurant that people usually wait in line to try and get it but here on the beach we've never waiting more then 10-15min to be seated. Service overall is timed well. We never wait to be attended to and food always come out hot. Atmosphere is relaxed and not pretentious at all. A very local vibe, far from the main visitor areas. It was buzzing, even late on a school night. While the pizza menu is somewhat straightforward, they do have a lot of yummy starters to choose from. Baked Clams: This felt like old school Italian-American luxury. Clams jazzed up with buttery breadcrumbs and herbs. Every bite had a nice contrast of chewy clam and crunchy topping. I especially liked trying to scoop up some of the juices on the platter before eating the clam. Pepperoni Chips : Instead of getting pepperoni on the pizza, I decided to get it as a side. Crispy and delicious, like those prime pepperonis that cup upwards on a pizza, except a whole plate of it. There was some honey to dip in, but I didn't need it. Plain Pie: Had to try their famous pie, unblemished by toppings. Really loved the very tomato-y tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella. The covered part of the pizza was a little floppy while the uncovered crust was dry and shattered upon biting. They seemed to have an odd amount of crust and on Yelp I've seen several photos of people eating the yummy middle but leaving the crust. Not wanting to waste it, I ordered a side of sauce. Sauce Side: I was expecting a little dipping ramekin, but it turned out to be like a bowl of soup size. This is perfect for moistening and livening up all that extra crust. Can you take an NYC legendary mainstay, and transport it to Miami Beach? No way! It turns out, you can! Pizza, pasta, cocktails, brick oven, great staff. It's all here. Even a kids' menu for picky eaters. Indoor or outdoor dining. This is more of an "I can't adequately explain it" type of place. Pretty poor for a reviewer, I admit; however, in town three days...went here three times. Downsides: pricy, but it's Miami Beach. And, be forewarned, pasta dishes come out well before your fresh made pizza (yes, dough rolled with a wine bottle). We swung by famous Lucali to experience the pizza and ambiance. We were seated right away for lunch. Inside is charming and feels like a true Italy countryside restaurant. We hadn't been to Lucali in a couple of years, and I have to say -- the food and service are still just as amazing as the first time we tried it. One thing I'd love to see improved: some of their best dishes aren't listed on the actual menu, even though you can find them online. I really think Lucali should consider adding them officially, or at least have the servers mention them -- they're too good to be kept a secret! We ordered the fried ravioli with vodka sauce, and WOW -- whoever came up with that combo deserves a pat on the back. Absolutely incredible. The Kale Caesar salad was also a hit. It had the perfect balance of bitterness and saltiness, and the croutons were next level -- crunchy, flavorful, and clearly homemade. We also had the chicken wings, which were another highlight. They tasted like a perfect blend of BBQ and hot sauce, with a little drizzle of ranch on top and a bit of char that added extra depth. So good. Finally, we tried the clams (also not on the menu), and they were unbelievably fresh and decadent. Lucali continues to be a solid go-to for us -- consistent, flavorful, and always memorable. I recently dined at Lucali for the first time and, wow was I pleasantly impressed! I always worry about potentially overhyped restaurants but I can say - Lucali lives up to the hype!! I arrived on a Saturday night at around 6pm. I know that is an early dinner time for Miami (lol) but I still anticipated a wait just in case. We easily found street parking, but there is also a garage nearby. Luckily, we were quickly seated. The space is quaint & cozy. The servers were great & attentive. We started with the baked clams which was our favorite dish. They were perfectly broiled & the sauce was *chefs kiss*. We opted for a cheese pizza with pepperoni. Very thin crust, and cooked perfectly. $40 for a pie is definitely spicy price but I think it's worth it (and I am a NY pizza snob). To drink I went with an aperol spritz which was kind of underwhelming. My bf got a Peroni, which he enjoyed. For dessert we got the cannolis & an off menu Nutella calzone. I liked the fluffiness of the dough on the calzone but wasn't overly impressed by it overall. I would skip dessert next time, unless I was with a large group - I would like to try the Nutella pizza. Overall, Lucali has easily become my favorite pizza spot so far in Miami. I will definitely be back. read more

I finally made it to Lucali only to be left empty by the disappointment that is Lucali Miami Beach. I'll start with the good: great playlist of music. I wasn't expecting to find an old school soul and r&b playlist in a pizza spot on South Beach. It definitely created a vibe. Oh, and the Monopolio draft beer selection at $9 was also a plus. Everything else after that was a no sir! Starting with the house salad. Great things to find in there especially the olives, but the dressing was nothing but pepper and vinegar with 1 drop of oil. We ordered a plain pie, because at $32 for a plain pie and $8 per topping almost, I need to know if your base is even worth it. It was not. The crust I would say is beyond cracker and it would literally disintegrate with any pressure applied to it. The part with the sauce and cheese was decent but by the time we got to the second slice, it was no longer standing up on its own and became a flop of a slice that if allowed to flop everything would slide off. Also because it's Miami, we unfortunately are being charged around $8 per topping whereas the NY location charges $3. And then there is a sign on the front door that says no pets but, there were 2 dogs in there shaking and throwing their fur all over the place because SOBE people have to have their dogs in every restaurant and can't leave them at home for 30 minutes. I always order sausage pizza and a large pizza is usually a little light for two to share, so you might want to add more to your order. I normally get an order of meatballs to fill us up but I noticed the meatball sub so decided to give that a go and wow I was not disappointed. The sub was big enough to share as it had 4 meatballs in a sesame seed bread. I'm not normally a fan of sesame but damn this will be a reorder for me. Wow. The rumors are true...hands down best pizza in Miami and better yet, Lucali offers so much more than just pizza. It took me too long to try this exceptional Miami gem. I was expecting nothing less from their amazing executive chef Santo. A legend!!! To start, the salads were unreal especially the kale Caesar. Meatballs are an absolute must and fried ravioli paired with the best tomato bisque. Even the bread...everything prepared in house made with love. Do not skip out on the specials, the clams were fantastic. By the time pizza arrived we were in disbelief. A gorgeous 20 inch pepperoni pie. Love at first bite. The grand finale was a beautifully presented birthday dessert with ice cream surrounded by fresh fruit and the greatest cannolis you'll ever have. A wow experience start to finish. I've ordered from Lucali's on more than a few occasions, including to the L&D ward at Mt Sinai hospital. Lucali's distinguishes itself by delivering warm and even hot. Apparently, that is a magical feat in Miami. Lucali's isn't cheap. But, a large pizza is a LARGE pizza. It's not a joke of 30 cents worth of pizza dough stretched to an 8 inch diameter appetizer. Toppings actually top, not garnish the pizza. The sauce is not obnoxiously sweet nor is it a bitter disappointment. In a town where decent pizza seems to be a mystery, Lucali's is at or near the top of the list (along with Casola). It's not exceptional, maybe a 5-7/10 by NYC standards on a good day, but for Miami's low scale, it's good. read more

This place is a hidden little gem. We came here to try the pizza but we fell in love with the pasta instead. There was only 2 pasta dishes to chose from. The pasta was sweet but also a tad bit spicy, it also has a creaminess to it. The pizza was good but a bit salty to our taste. Next time I would like to try the regular pie rather than the white pie. I loved the Caesar kale salad, it had freshly made croutons on top....just WOW. They were still warm when the salad arrived to our table. The pepperoni chips with hot honey, just made me happy inside. They were crunchy and melted in my mouth when dipped in the honey. The main reason for 4/5 stars was the service, the server forgot to bring the soda we ordered. It was a bit busy for a Thursday night, so maybe he overlooked it. Although, the server was friendly and boxed our pizza for us prior to leaving. Overall, I do recommend you check this spot out! After hearing about Lucali for years I finally got the chance to check them out...Amazing! 5 star experience from beginning to end! Celebrated my birthday with 3 friends here and had a wonderful culinary experience. A huge thank you to Santos, the executive chef, who is an absolute gem and really elevated our entire experience. To begin with, service was great, the staff is welcoming and attentive. The ambiance is cozy with dim lighting and feels intimate. We entered food heaven as each dish was brought out. The salads were all good but the kale Cesar was the star. The meatballs were juicy and delicious. The bread wow, the bread was even divine. Save the bisque that comes with the ravioli and dip the bread in it, you're welcome! I'm not someone who will order clams usually but I had them and they were fantastic just like everything else. By the time our 20 inch pepperoni pie made its way to the table we were so stuffed. We were planning to take it to go but as soon as we tried the pizza we knew we had to finish it! They're known for their pizza and there's a reason for it. My favorite was my birthday dessert that was cannoli presented beautifully with fruits and ice cream, such a delight. Opted for the pizza special of the night, which included prosciutto, fig (look at those huge pieces!), fig jam, arugula, and incredible cheeses. It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious...so much so that we forgot to take a picture before diving in. The pie was enormous so we took a lot home. My only complaint is being charged $8 for water.
