We enjoyed the experience. My "Lancaster bucket list" included a covered bridge. Check. The Miller's Farm Bridge is the result of two bridges that were going to be destroyed. The bridge is beautiful. Sheep and cows graze beside it. If you walk along the white fenced area, you can see The Amish Farm and House. This location is contrary. You can see a pretty farm area that is directly beside stores. There are various tour tickets available. I suggest the self tour and grabbing a bite at the BBQ barn. The bus tour is convenient if you don't want to research anything on your own. We planned our Lancaster visit with YouTube and google. There is something to be said for having someone drive you around this beautiful area. However, the stops are chosen for you. There is a better selection of shopping at the markets and smaller shops. If you are on the bus, you are in competition with everyone else trying to quickly purchase souvenirs in 20 minutes. If you decide to take a tour, don't buy a ticket on Sunday. The shops are closed and the tour is different. The house was interesting but I enjoyed the outside of the house at Old Windmill Farm. That was real. This has a "museum" feel. The displays are filled with facts and pictures. You can purchase a book in the gift shop that can explain Amish life. I prefer seeing and taking pictures. There are some beautiful photo opps on the property. There is a life sized cow you can "milk." There are limited, but adorable animals on the property. The goats are hilarious. There are animal approved snack bags you can buy for $1 in the gift shop. The goats climb stairs and walk across the bridge. The sheep make a perfect background by the covered bridge. There are play areas for children. Most things are wood - be careful about splinters. The wood photo cutouts were funny. The gift shop had a few Amish hats, crafted items and home made jams and other canned items. I found more items at flea markets and Kitchen Kettle Village. This place is worth visiting. The best way to end the self guided tour is with some food at a picnic table and a stroll by the covered bridge. read more

The self tour of the "farm" is also top notch. This whole experience is informative and pleasing to the eye. One can learn the ways of the peaceful and gracious Amish people along with their customs and beliefs. The cost is moderate for what you get. The gift shop is superb and fairly priced for the most part. This is a marvelous experience for children accompanied by adults. My daughter and I visited the Amish Farm and House and were surprised to see it situated right next to a large Target. While it is the oldest Amish farm in the area, it's no longer a working farm. The visit felt more like touring an animal rescue than experiencing a traditional farm. The house tour was interesting as well, though the guide's commentary sometimes came across a bit derogatory toward the Amish, which was disappointing. It was an Amish home and farm and is not a working farm, it is now more like an Amish Museum. Took the walking self tour of the farm and tour of the house which was very informative and interesting. We came to learn about the Amish community and left wishing we had came with an emptier stomach, as the BBQ lunch was some of the best deals I've encountered in ages. Let's be clear, this is more of a BBQ review than the house/farm review. For $50, we got a full set of ribs, best and juiciest pulled pork sandwich, hamburger, ice cream, sodas, root beer, and lemonade. This is a steal and they take credit cards too! My only complaint is that we were joined by swarms of wasps that were equally tantalized by the smell, so eat fast. As for the farm, we came a little bit late and had a time crunch and missed out on the house tour (our kids were too little anyway), but we thoroughly enjoyed the outside Amish farm/museum. You can opt to pay for the real farm experience with the bus tour, but I honestly thought the establishment outside the large Target supermarket is perfect for the kids and family. There are plenty of safely secured items for the kids to play around, and there is a QR code that allow for adults to learn via an audio tour. There were plenty of goats (and baby goats) in the area, and innumerable opportunities to buy snacks and whoopie pies. Honestly, this was a lot of fun! Recommend at least 2-3 hours to fully enjoy. read more

(November 2024) Last weekend, my wife and I drove up from Northern Virginia for the day to experience this. We were on bus #2 and Devon was our driver and guide. She was fantastic as she took us around and telling us about the Amish. We first stopped at a roadstand where they sold homemade snacks; we shared a warm cinnamon pretzel. They don't accept credit, but there was an ATM. Next, we stopped at a quilts retail store (I believe this place accepted credit). Finally as a bonus, we stopped at a home where there was a cupboard outside that sold bread. We bought one of the sourdough loafs. One of the children came out (with her 3 very friendly dogs) to facilitate the sale and provide change since this was also cash only. Overall, this was a 5 out of 5. After we returned, we did the house tour. This would've been more enjoyable had the group been limited to 10 visitors. To me, this was a 3 out of 5. Finally, we walked around the farm on our self-guided tour. I definitely recommend this as it's worth the road trip! read more

Had a great time on the farm! Did the Sunset Dinner Tour and the house tour, and enjoyed both. The bus tour was cool, there's only so much they can show you on the drive there, but the food was unbelievable. The King family invited us in and were very warm and hospitable, and their home cooked meal was great. The butter noodles, the pot roast, even the homemade bread was great. Hopefully you get them if you book this dinner. The family was very kind, and their children also join in with helping with chores. The fresh blueberry pie is unlike anything you'll find commercially made anywhere. This is one of the best experiences you can have with interacting with an Amish family. read more

3,5 It didn't start off great, to be honest. We walked in to buy our tickets, and we were immediately asked if we had reservations. Nope, because we just wanted the house and farm tour, and the website said no reservations were required. And the lady said, "Well, you should've called!" in a sort of chastising tone. HUH? Anyway, we actually found the tour guide to be nice and informative, and we learned alot - she spent a lot of time at the beginning of the tour going through the first three rooms, and then really rushed at the end. My favorite part of the the farm itself (not much was open) was the scooter tour! So much fun even if it was only for 2 minutes that we did it a couple of times since no one else was there - and we lucked out on a beautiful day, and the image of the colorful Amish dresses hanging on the laundry line made for a great photo opportunity. read more

We had low expectations because this place is 10 feet away from Target in a strip mall, but this place was totally worth it. My kids were begging to meet real Amish which we were able to do here. We met an older woman who answered some of our questions (apparently the younger kids these days have cell phones but she personally has a phone line she shares with several other homes). There are also tour guides who seemed quite knowledgeable (did you know Amish only go to school through 8th grade?). We also loved speaking with the woodworker who wasn't Amish but knew a lot about them and genuinely loved answering my kids' questions - we talked to him for more than 30 minutes and he never once expressed irritation. There are also farm animals to see which my kids also enjoyed, though really the main attraction for us was learning what Amish are really like. Don't forget the soft pretzels from the BBQ stand run by real Amish. We came at the end of the day when they were cleaning up but they were still super delicious and soft! read more

I learned so much about Amish and their history from their tours. We signed up for the premium package which includes a 90 minute bus tour of the community, a guided house tour and a farm tour. A bus tour was interesting. A tour includes stopping by at several shops operated by Amish. My favorite stop was a toy store (all hand made by Amish) and a gift shop where we got to eat their soft pretzels and ice cream. Pretzel and ice cream both had its own unique texture, nothing like I had in the past. Ice cream was very rich, I ended up skipping lunch after eating just one bowl of ice cream, coming from grass fed cows. Due to COVID, they don't have dinner tour but I would have loved to eat food made by them someday. One thing I didn't know about them was the use of solar power. They don't deny just everything. They pick and carefully chose what they think is the best for them. Things they make tend to be a bit pricy side as they make everything here but good quality of products for sure. I really loved my bus tour and my guide answered any questions I had. She took us to a female owned Amish shop and a bakery with the most amazing pretzels. Buses were covid considerate and there were 4 people in the very back away from us. Very spaced out and no issues. The house tour was pretty boring. Too be honest, I felt like it was a outdated school tour and I wanted to take a nap. The guide talked very slow and kept interrupting himself to talk to a little girl. It was so strange! Also someone farted so loud and acted like it didn't happen. That was actually the best part because it was so funny the room just pretended it was totally normal. People are weird. Our driver Harry was very enthusiastic, entertaining and an expert on the area, pointing out subtle differences between Amish and "English" (non-Amish) farms that would escape the untrained eye. I visited here this past Tuesday. We purchased tickets online which was a good idea because our time slot seemed to have ended up sold out. I thought the shuttle tour and the house tour were informative and fun. The store stops on the shuttle tour had a variety of items including baked goods for purchase. The gift shop at the pick up location had nice items to purchase as well. I do wish that I was able to locate more of the stops along the independent walking farm tour. We were given a map with numbers and we did see several of the structures but there were some structures that we couldn't locate. More signage would have been helpful.there was plenty of free parking nearby. read more

Very good house your the guide told some good stories keeping us interested. The tour ran over and we had to rush to our bus tour but we didn't mind due to the stories. Only critique is she got a bit snippy with us over my two year old making noise, calling us out in front of the whole group embarrassing us. Bus tour was the best part. The tour guide was also very informative explaining to us the differences in the homes English versus non-English. However, I felt a bit rushed at the two stops. I did not have time to buy anything in the crafts shops and I wanted to as the bus driver was rushing us back on as we were eating ice cream still. Went here on Tuesday May 23rd with my family as part of our lancaster, PA Vacation. This is my first time coming into this place, although may have been to this one when i was little, not quite sure. Anyways, there are 3 tours that one can choose from, you can take a bus ride, and you can tour the house and the grounds. We paid to just tour the house and the grounds. The house was pretty nice and provided an insight on amish life. i learned that they do use batteries, as well as solar power, and that they do vote since certain zoning laws can create problems for their farm. The house was very nice, from seeing an amish kitchen table to seeing a women's bedroom. What a simple life for the amish. Also learned that it can be hard to become amish. This can be unique to the tour guide though but i do wish that they would have referenced "Buster's Amish Mismatch", which was an arthur episode where buster was inspired by the amish, and wanted to become one, and i think at the end of it, they do a barn raising, which is something the real amish would do probably. Anyways, she also could have mentioned that there are old amish ways, and new amish ways. Anyways, after the tour, we searched around the grounds of the house. Pretty beautiful with nature and all the different animals! There are also great picture spots with an amish buggy one can sit in. Overall a great stop and highly recommend! read more

Originally owned by an Amish family and operated as a farm from 1805 until 1955 when it was converted into the first―and only―Amish-themed learning center. This is the place to go if you're lookin' to get yer learn-on about the Amish and their "mysterious" ways. They have a variety of tours at different price points*, starting as low as the house tour ($7-10); Bus Tour ($5-23); and, finally, the ultra-premium house AND bus tour ($5-30). We opted for the house tour, as this trip wasn't planned at all we just sort of stumbled on it while looking for a nearby covered bridge (more on that later). Here's the Good, the Meh & the Ugly: The Good: -BABY GOATS!!!!! AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -Tour guide was informative, knowledgeable and welcomed questions -It was nice that it was an authentic house, and not something built for the tourists -Amish artisans on-site to sell you their homemade crafts -Authentic Amish schoolhouse that was erected in 1996 by an Amish construction team. Inside the schoolhouse was a "retired" Amish school teacher who answered questions about the Amish education system. -Willows Covered Bridge on site that was moved there in 1961 -Did I mention baby goats?! The Meh -I'm reaching here a bit, but the tours seemed a touch overpriced. I know they gotta make a buck, so I'll let it slide. The Ugly -Evidently there is a gift shop, and I would've liked to have visited said gift shop if not for the terror in Carissa's eyes as she fled from the aforementioned gift shop. If there's a school or group of kids visiting--look out! They cause quite a kerfuffle inside and made the gift shop uninhabitable. They really need to manage this better, by maybe only allowing a handful in at a time or doing it in shifts. Overall this was an awesome place to check out, and is highly recommended when visiting Amish country. It really will answer any and all questions, and (hopefully) give visitors a new found respect for their lifestyle. P.S. Did I mention BABY GOATS?!?!?!? *There is a farm-only tour available for families with ADD kids that can't sit still, but I couldn't find pricing. Also they have coupons on their website for $1-2 off per person. If you've made it this far down my review congratulations! You've earned the $1-2! Huzzah! read more
