I would give this company another try. We happen to get on the last buggy ride of the day. We only got to ride to the end of the road and back to the starting area. Our horse named Molly was old and did not quite have the stamina of other horses. Our driver was extremely friendly and let a set of brothers take turns driving under his supervision. I knew she would love a buggy ride, so we called A is for Amish Buggy rides and went in the early afternoon. We met Rachel and Chris, the new owners, who were both raised Amish. Took my grandchildren for the 35 minute ride (ages 3 and 5) and they loved it. We enjoyed the scenery along the way and the driver (Rachael) was very friendly and answered questions everyone asked as well as giving a lot of information about crops in fields we passed. She also gave a lot of insight into the Amish way of life. I took this trip several years ago and we visited an Amish business whereas I enjoyed this more. This is under new ownership and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend for families of any age. A great time and break from hectic NJ living! We chose the cheapest package (there are four) at $12/pp. because we simply wanted the experience - I've been wanting to go on a horse and buggy ride for YEARS, but never looked into the logistics. Put your name in, then wait for your departure time. CASH ONLY ! We had an hour one, so we went exploring on their grounds - a cute petting zoo, motel front desk with gift shop, and some houses (maybe staff live there?). As we were thinking, the many colorful cabooses are actually motel rooms to rent out! SO COOL! Our guide was cute, funny, informative, and just what you'd expect from a "real" Amish person. We stopped at a small local family farm. Home baked goodies were offered for a modest cost. Amish girls conducting short rides for children on adorable miniature horses were going on - OMG the utter cuteness!!! The ride was blissful, and seemed like a world away. Probably 20 minutes tops. We're going back in the spring with the kids for another ride, and will probably rent a caboose (2 night minimum). I highly recommend this whole place!!! read more

Don't do it!! Seriously just don't! I was really excited to do this thinking it was more than just a 10 min ride down the road where I could have driven myself. This is a cash business which I failed to notice from other Yelpers so I had to get cash at ATM in nearby building. Why do I say don't do it? Because you literally get ridden down the road to an amish farm that you likely passed by on your way to this buggy ride. The Amish farm is fully accessible by the public so I (you) could theoretically simply drive over. I paid for the 45 min "ride" that was basically an over priced taxi ride in a buggy down the road to visit the amish farm that I can access for free myself. The buggy drives you over to the farm where you can visit the amish family and purchase goods. The entire buggy ride itself was probably about 15 mins tops. I didn't have kids in tow so there really is no reason for adults to pay for this unless you have kids that want the buggy ride. The staff that manages this attraction are awesome but I just don't feel there's any real value in this service. Save yourself $10-$20 and just drive yourself down the road to the amish farm and enjoy. read more

At first I was hesitant as it wasn't an amish person giving us the tour. But in all honesty it was pretty good. They took you to a barn down the street, and showed you around. It is right at the hotel we stayed-- red caboose motel. Got coupon for BOGO adult ride from hotel. Under 2 yrs is free. 10-5 pm. No reservation. First come first serve. We signed up at 10:05 and got on a buggy on 10:45 am. We wanted the 35 min tour but they no longer offered it. Took the 25 min instead. We stopped for a minute for local bakery shopping. We didn't have to get off. An Amish young lady held up a tray of goodies to us. It's of course optional to buy. They packed the buggy tight. We had to put our 2 yrs old on our lap to make room. Like other reviews stated, the Amish guide sat in front and talked facing forward. Unless you sit up front, you really can't hear what was he saying. There was a sign saying ' gratuity accepted ' on the buggy. So you know what to do. Conclusion: price is fair. Competitive. We visited Lancaster and adored the area but this buggy ride was pretty bad.. we showed up at he end of the day on a Friday, and the man driving the buggy was constantly screaming at and hitting the horse, Sally, who was just kinda tired and going a little slower (we told him we didn't mind her speed). The buggy rides are located right outside the Red Caboose Motel & Restaurant, which is really cute. The motel rooms are individual train cars painted different colors. Loved it. There's also a tiny zoo to entertain you while you wait (pigs, goats, chickens and an alpaca). You can feed the goats and chickens. And a steam train goes by every once in a while (the Strasburg train) so make sure you get some photos. Great experience here although there was some confusion with the ride options. We started to suspect that most of their ride options all go to the same location and they just omit some parts of the tour. We signed up for a buggy ride but they ended up putting us in a carriage. We were told it was since there were multiple groups waiting and they were looking out for the welfare of the horses. They did end up giving us a discount (supposed to be $20, but we got it for $12) We had previously asked for clarification on the rides and were told that the Amish Family Tour would include an extended ride. It was a ride down the block. Still, even though I'd have preferred a longer ride through the countryside - we really enjoyed our tour. Our guide, Jesse was really friendly and informative. He offered an interesting perspective since he grew up Amish but ended up marrying a Mennonite girl and thus left the community. The Amish Family Tour consisted of a ride down the block, a walk through the barn (horses and adorable baby goats) and a walk through the wood shop. Jesse explained the intricacies of Amish life and offered a chance to ask questions. We also had time to purchase homemade root beer and whoopie pies at the same location. The whoopie pie was absolutely incredible - so soft. Don't miss! They had some souvenirs for sale too. This is obviously more of a touristy option but you are still getting good information. Reasonably priced. If you do the Amish Roads tour (descriptions on their website) print out the 2.00 discount coupon (for that tour only). Believe it's cash only. One complaint was that the ride didn't seem very long, just down the street and back. But they do offer different lengths of rides, so some are longer. We got there at 4:30 and were told that our ride would start at 5:30. We opted for the family ride that would stop by someone's farm and talk to the host family, but I think we may have gotten a different experience. They have an option to stop by a stand and get root beer and whoopie pies...and I think that's what we got instead. But since our ride started at 5:30, by the time we got to the stand, (around 5:40ish) they were closed and sour that we were there. My only advice...go there earlier in the day. Riding the horse wagon was a fun experience because it's so different from cars but...by the time our horse was driving us around, she was very tired. She would go normal speed but would suddenly stop (frequently) and when she started again, she moved slowly. I felt really bad for the poor horse. The bonus to giving us the lower tier experience was that it was cheaper and it was shorter, so Molly got a chance to get back home quicker and rest. *******They have a free petting zoo. We burned one hour there. There weren't that many animals but when you get to feed those few animals, it's fun for the kids! But when we were there, since it was raining and there were not a lot of customers, we ended up to go with someone else on a 35-minute ride instead of the 80-minute ride we originally planned so that we don't have to wait. So, we got the brochure from the Strasburg Railroad and we only went for the buggy ride. They have a couple other things, specifically a restaurant, ice cream (which was closed for the season, whatever this means), and a good number of cabooses that you can apparently sleep in if you stay at the Red Caboose Motel (or something like that). Interesting to look at, nothing to write home about. The buggy ride was ok. The person driving the buggy was part of the Amish family and he told us a couple interesting facts, but again, not anything that I'd write home about. I do agree with other reviews that I could barely hear him. Depends on what you're looking for. I only did the 25 min ride, so perhaps the longer ones are better, but if you're looking for an in-depth experience, I cannot recommend this place, but only due to lack of information. They were nice and provided good customer service. They also drive you to a little shop where you can buy locally-made jam, whoopie pies, cheese, and ice cream. I didn't buy anything. We found this buggy ride to be extremely disappointing. We took the longer "farm" tour (45 min). We stayed at the caboose motel all week and generally had a nice stay, and decided to take the buggy ride on our last day there. The farm that they took us to was within walking distance of the motel and open to the public for free. We were given the "opportunity" to feed the horses but nothing resembling a tour of the farm, just additional chances to purchase items from the gift shop. This was all something we could've done on our own, for free(!), but we paid $54 for 4 of us. What a trap and a rip-off! Our driver even said on the way back, what a gold mine they have. Yep, and I'm sure he's getting his kickback. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!! read more

I had called ahead for 15 people as this was a family trip. Since they don't take reservations, we were told to come and everyone will be accommodated. We came on a Sunday at 10am, as that's when they open, and were told we would leave at 10:45 which was ok with us as we know it's a busy season in July. After 11am we were called, we thought maybe it's cause their were waiting for the bigger buggy to come back, but they tried to put us in a small one that was sitting there the whole time. We assumed we would be in the bigger buggy as they were 10 adults and 3 kids plus 2 toddlers. They tried to squeeze us all in this small buggy that looked like it was meant for 8 adults max if that even that much, and when we asked if we could take a larger one and we were told we would all fit. Well long story short we didn't all fit, so we were moved to a bigger buggy but it was not courteously at all. Then our 3 kids who were looking forward to riding in the front with the driver (because they were told by the workers they could) ended up being put in the back with the adults. What makes it worse is they then took another family, a woman and 9 year old boy, and put them next to the driver. The woman blocked the whole front view so our kids couldn't see a thing. Then the whole ride the rider only spoke to and directed questions to this family in the front. We were not included at all, and my entire family felt awkward. Then the driver charged the family in front one adult and free child (who was 9). And when he came to us charged all of us. So for all these reasons this gets a low rating from me. There are other smaller companies who are nicer and provide a better tour in the area. Wouldn't recommend this one. read more
