Great atmosphere, friendly staff, nice decor and reasonably priced drinks. Would recommend the Pink Buchanan and the Cucumber Fizz.

It's flashy, it's classy, it's got style and it's sauve. The pricey menu might be a little off-putting initially, but it's worth a visit for a special occasion - or to add some extra sparkle to a catch up with a friend. I was running late for our booking by a good 20 minutes but they were still good enough to seat us in some of the nicest seats in the house, the booths in the dining area. I love a booth. The place definitely has a lot of glamour to it and the walls are covered in nautical memorabilia, but in a classy way. As I said above, the menu is pricey which had put me off visiting before. I think they have recently added a pre-theatre option, although this menu wasn't offered to us when we were seated so it was the hefty a la carte menu instead. Cuts of steak start at £21 (with sauce extra, ouch) and most mains are over £15. I'd already had lunch and so just ordered a starter of scallops (£9.45) with a side of asparagus (£4.50) as my main. I also tried a Basilian mocktail (lunch time and new drink driving laws make boozing less appealing) - ginger beer, basil, lime and Orgeat (£3.95) which was just like a mojito and very refreshing. Food arrived quickly and my scallops were lovely - three plump beauties with pancetta and a grilled corn purée. The menu said there was also basil and chilli but mine had chives instead, and no real hint of chili. There's not much you can say about sprigs of asparagus - these were nicely cooked and a little buttery. Six springs for £4.50 does seem a little steep to me though. Service was good and pretty smooth. Strangely enough I think we were served by no fewer than 5 different waiters while we were there, with each of them checking up on us as we passed by. It wasn't intrusive, but it was surprising always seeing a difference face. I had a phone call to take so went next door to perch at the bar which was bustling with people who'd just knocked off work. The bar staff didn't seem to mind that I sat there for a good while on the phone without a drink, and left me to my own devices. This place seems to attract people above 40 for drinks which is understandable as it's so pricey. I left impressed but not dying to go back which is why it's a 4 star for me, for now.

    THE steak frites.

There are few things that will motivate me to de-Slanket and run a comb through my hair on a sleet-soaked Saturday during that greyest of grey post-Christmas slump. Some of my favourite women suggesting that we go for "a drink" is one of those things. Having enjoyed several cocktails in The Anchor Line before, we trudged our way across the dreich city to St Vincent Place and ensconced ourselves. Part of the Di Maggio's empire, the Anchor Line opened in the former cruise line booking office at the end of 2014. The aesthetic is true to the history of the building with framed artefacts, posters and menus of a distinctly nautical nature throughout, and a bar that looks like it may have been recovered from the wreck of the Titanic itself. The interior sings of money, with marble and gilt and plush carpets, which unsurprising given the hefty investment behind its transformation. Opulence, they say, is everything, and opulent it is. So, back to "a drink" with friends. After disrobing and shaking off the sleet, it hardly seemed worth staying for just one. A glass of prosecco down and we had barely defrosted, so menus were requested and steak frites became the order of the day. The steak frites was, without exaggeration, one of the best I have tried in Glasgow. For just shy of £16 I did not expect to be presented with such a weighty chunk of charred meat, deep ruby velvet inside, perfectly rested and meltingly tender. I am a self-professed Maillard obsessive, and each bite delivered that punch and smoke that comes only from the use of a Josper grill. The accompanying fries were that slender, pale golden variety of chip that are intensely, moreishly salty and crisp, and it was a challenge not to gleefully shovel them into my mouth by the handful. I also had to stop myself from running a greedy finger around the inside of the béarnaise pot, so perfectly textured was the sauce. We drank negronis, as we are often wont to do, and they were the prefect bitter foil to the richness of our lunch. Three sated Dorothy Parkers full of red meat and gin stepped out of Anchor Line and, emboldened by our excess, trotted towards House of Fraser to further indulge our indulgent natures. So ruined by this experience am I that I can barely bring myself to go back. It was so intensely and satisfyingly good that I am (almost) happy enough to live with the memory, rather than attempting to recreate it. I am, however, being pestered almost daily by my husband to take him, and I may be powerless to resist the lure of the mythically perfect steak frites for much longer.

Aaah, I love The Anchor Line. Externally, it's a pretty impressive building, but once you ascend the steps and enter, it's like stepping into a while other world. Decadent doesn't come close to describing this place - it's top to bottom marble and gold gilding wherever you look, with one of the most impressive ceilings I've seen outside of museums. You'll be greeted as soon as you come in, and directed accordingly. The restaurant part is screened off, at the back - I really want to have food here soon! The bar itself always has a gentle buzz about it, and some nights has a piano being played. It is on the expensive side, but for an occasional drink, or a special night out, The Anchor Line is fast becoming one of THE places to be.

Lamb & black pudding mash. I asked for medium-rare but it was definitely on the well done side of medium. Otherwise, delicious.

From the outside you might think that this is too posh and fancy for a casual lunch. Me and a friend arrived in jeans and trainers but instantly were welcomed by the smartly dressed server, and put in a window seat in the front as it wasn't busy. I ordered the lamb with black pudding mash for main. The lamb was a little overdone as you can see from the photo (I asked for medium-rare) but the black pudding mash was delicious. I don't have a particularly sweet tooth but the banofee cheesecake was just delicious. I don't think I've ever had better. In all this comes just short of 5 stars because of the lamb, but otherwise this was a great meal out and very very good value (two courses for about £16). Definitely would come back.

A welcome alternative to the usual chain bars & restos on George Square. It's tucked round the corner on the corner of Anxhor Lane & St Vincent St. We had cocktails - plenty to suit every taste & some beers. It's got a relaxed atmosphere, the staff are friendly & the service is prompt. Will definitely be back to try out the food menu.

I think they need help with plating as this looks ridiculous! Please stop putting pointless tomatoes with a steak!

I came here with 3 of my best mates for a a meal to start off a night out in Glasgow. Its certainly a glamorous looking place for for a bar / restaurant. Lots of french waiters and it is definitely trying to be a posher than a normal pub. On the outside it gives off glamour but some of the food and little details are still a lacking especially if you compare the food to the decor. I tried everything that was ordered on the table. Lobster mac and cheese. This wasn't bad in all fairness, generally though it is a terrible thing to order as you are normally getting the scraps of the lobster. There's was ok but a bit heavy I thought. I'd give it 3 stars. What was excellent though was the oysters rockerfeller. We ordered 6 of them to try and truthfully should have ordered 20. If I came back i would order this and a nice wine to go with it and that would be that! (they did get the order wrong and brought us normal oysters in the first instance which delayed the meal by about 20 min but i forgave them as the rockerfeller oysters were so good) They had a good selection of wine. We had an ok pinot noir for circa £28 a bottle. Not cheap for what it was but not outrageous either. (You are paying for all those french waiters and some one has to dust all that fancy decor!) If you are going to try and be posh though please get a decent dish washer. I don't expect to see stains on all the water glasses! (see photo) We ordered a couple of steaks and mash potato. Why are they trying to be so posh!! I think their plating is a fail as it simply looked empty (check photo). The steaks were cooked to medium rare as ordered but we both felt they were a bit tough and clearly were not aged. If you are going to be posh then please get some posh steaks that will live up to the decor!! Getting coffee was confusing. They could not figure out how to serve a espresso with amaretto. Took 10 min of discussion and still brought the wrong thing out. ( lost in translation?) I would come here for a drink and to have some light starters (those oysters!!) but for the price and what you get overall there are better places to eat a full dinner in Glasgow city centre. Maybe have starters here and a main somewhere else!

I think this place might be my new spiritual home. Only open for 4 weeks so far, I decided on a whim to pop in here for a quiet glass of wine on a Friday night. I was so impressed, I dragged the girls here the next day for a lunch (well, liquid one for me!) It's not the cheapest place but you really do pay for a level of service - great cocktails, the rose sparkling wine is beautiful and the bar service was lovely - nice and chatty but without feeling forced. There's also a lovely live piano player which adds such a nice vintage touch. I've not eaten here yet - but I was reliably informed that the fish & chips, and the burger were both lovely - and I witnessed the skinniest chips I have EVER seen. Looking forward to going back some time soon, even if it's just for a quiet drink.

    Scallops and Calamari

First came here for drinks with friends and plumed ourselves at the bar. First impressions, what a stunning interior and concept. You could easily lose hours in here, given its busy and the bar is well placed to congregate around. We then popped back a fortnight later for lunch and opted for calamari and scallop starters, followed by two fillet steaks. Wow... These starters were out of this world. My only criticism was that the squid could have done with being placed on kitchen towel to remove some of the oil. Freshness and flavour though, were spot on. Fillet steaks actually cooked perfectly medium for a change. Given the hype over the oven its cooked in, I have to say it was just a good steak. Not outstanding. The chateaubriand at Marco Pierres is still the best beef we've had in Glasgow. Now... The bill was just under £100, which you'd expect for two fillets steaks and starters. We didn't begrudge it at all, as it was an excellent meal & we couldn't even eat dinner later we were still stuffed! I'd like to come back on a nighttime to experience it then, compared to a lunch. Superb bar and a lovely restaurant. Great addition to Glasgow eateries. You Gotta Eat Here - For Sure!!

The cucumber fizz and the Boston ice tea. Brilliant!

Came here for a few drinks the other day and have to say I was really impressed. A very classy looking place that's great for a drink. I didn't try the food on my visit but I have heard very good things, though the menu is a bit pricy, meaning it's probably a place best kept for a special occasion. The drinks menu though was fantastic, with a really tasty selection of cocktails on offer. Special mention to the Boston Iced Tea, topped with Sam Adams, it was fantastic! The table service for drinks here is a nice touch too, and almost justifies the quite expensive prices. Though the drinks are a bit pricy, I do think this is reflected in the good service and the decor of the venue. I think this has become one of my new places to visit in town, can't wait for my next visit! One thing I have been warned about is that this place gets seriously busy at the weekends, and that's pretty much from opening time!

Well, I first heard of Anchor line when I moved to Glasgow a few months back. I met this incredible American woman, part archeologist part food writer (seriously) and asked her about cocktail places. "Anchor line" she said "it's THE place for cocktails in Glasgow". So after a very disappointing lunch at the Grand Central hotel (never setting foot in that place again), which was supposed to lead on to cocktails at the grand central hotel (nope), my friends and I decided to relocate. Off to the Anchor line. Thank you THANK YOU Anchor line for saving my afternoon. Service: spot on, atmosphere: classy, cocktails: five stars!! I had the aviation first (anything with violet makes me happy) followed by the frozen pineapple margarita. Both were delicious. Will definitely return to try the rest of the menu.

If you have never been in to Nics Deli (why not? what is wrong with you?) it is a cool, but incredibly busy little lunch spot with a wall of cool black and white pictures, a large service counter and a few painted wooden tables dotted around so you can choose to sit in. Okay! Okay! enough about the decor, lets talk about the food because this little slice of American heaven is a lunch time mecca for me - Hotdogs, Sandwiches, Wraps, Baked Potatoes, Salad Bowls and Taco Bowls crammed full of delicious and imaginative fillings....you can find their full menu here, I would tell you all my favourites but honestly I love them all. As well as a great choice of savoury options their sweet offerings are off the charts amazing - the donuts are INCREDIBLE, best donuts I have ever tasted, and again with amazing flavours and topping to choose from. Also on offer is a selection of light fluffy american pancakes and waffles with tons of lush flavours to choose from. Are you getting the impression that i love this place? Because I really really do. On this particular visit I ordered a foot long cheesy pig dog, which is a hotdog covered in bacon and melted cheese and was exactly as delicious as it sounds....although this is definitely something I need to eat with a fork and knife because it is so big and messy. For dessert I choose what can only be described as the king of all donuts - a cookies donut sandwich! I'll give you a moment just to process the thought of a cookie donut sandwich!....... This is one of their regular freshly baked donuts slathered in fondant and sandwiched between two crunchy but chewy peanut butter cookies, then topped with honeycomb and more fondant - are you speechless? I certainly was when I saw it and I can't even begin to tell you how epic it tasted, even if it did take me 3 sittings to finish it. Nics Deli is one of my favourite lunch time spots in G-Town, due to the calorie count I clock up on my visits I tend to keep it as a treat and maybe only visit once a month....but boy the calories are worth it.

I'm not in this part of the city often so have to admit I was very pleased to see this place! I've eaten in all three now, and each have the same menu of deliciousness (they should call it that actually - BOW DOWN BEFORE THE MENU OF DELICIOUSNESS!) chock full of taste combos that make me salivate, all available on a variety of breads or whacked on a baked potato. And that's before I get to the donuts (better than Krispy Kreme?). I had the Manwich - horrible name, great sandwich. A wonderfully meaty affair, but all of it tasted great, soft and moist turkey breast, nicely peppered pastrami and... some ham I think too? Chuck some BBQ sauce in there, throw it all on a ciabatta, toast it and deliver to my face hole, stat!! Is what I didn't say to the lady who served me, but it was something like that... And I'm salivating now thinking back to it. Sure it's all a bit cheap and cheerful, but the staff are always friendly, and you can even mix up your own amazing concoction of deliciousness if you are feeling creative! It's kinda hard to fault any of these establishments, so if I was being very picky I'd suggest that this one was a little cold inside so I ended up keeping my jacket on. No biggie though!

As the name would suggest it's loaded with American style food, don't be down heartened though this is no run of the mill 'American diner' serving cheap hot dogs and yucky burgers from the cash and carry. The food from Nic's is tasty, well thought out and delicious. There are of course the likes of baked potatoes and sandwiches with lovely looking toppings to be enjoyed. My eyes however were very much glued to the Hot Dog menu where you can try such delights as the amazing Cheesy Pig Dog ( bacon and cheese) or the BBQ Dog (sweet fried onions, BBQ Sauce and dill pickle) or the very tempting Glasga Dog ( black Pudding and fried egg). What makes these dogs in my opinion the best take away dogs in Glasgow is that they fry off their dogs for a few minutes which makes them extra tasty. I've not tried the freshly made pancakes or waffles yet but they do come with some lovely looking toppings - the Banana Beast ( banana, maple, pecan nuts and ice cream) Peanut Butter Jelly Time (peanut butter and blackcurrant or strawberry jam) or the Sweet Porker Stack ( bacon and maple syrup) these are definitely next on my list to try from the menu. On my last visit I finally gave in to the cool looking doughnuts. These lovely little clouds of light dough are made in-house ensuring they are as fresh as they come. The base is so soft and flavoursome, the topping is a luscious thick layer of fondant sprinkled with a variety of American style toppings - Oreo, peanut butter cups, smarties, marshmallows......the list is endless. What really excited me tho was while chatting with the girls they announced that they were expecting their doughnut menus to arrive any minute. Hang on! Let's just think about that for a second........a menu......dedicated to doughnuts.......it's the stuff of dreams! Going back to the food, it did take me a couple of minutes to choose what to have because EVERYTHING looked awesome. Even the SALADS!!! I was guided by the lovely staff who work there and plumped for the Taco bowl. A large, crispy tortilla shaped into a bowl stuffed with salad, guacamole, sour cream, PULLED PORK (this was my topping), covered with jack cheese and some Glasgow Megadeath chilli sauce. Great stuff. And for dessert you MUST get one of their special donuts... loads of flavours. Think Krispy Kreme but without the nasty aftertaste (you know what I mean!). This used to be The Living Room but that closed down recently to get refurbed into the S&L (part of the same group) and it opened on Monday 20 April. I popped in for an afternoon visit to check the place out. As I mentioned, it's been refurbed from the Living Room but the layout is still the same - large bar area and separate dining area. I asked for a refreshing drink and the barman asked a few questions to narrow down what I wanted - he was clearly the manager and knew his stuff although when he whether I wanted my non-alcoholic cocktail to contain Red Bull I did had to laugh - really?! I took a seat while they prepared my drink. There's some nice window seats so you can gaze along St Vincent St which is nice and generally, this place has a good seating arrangement if you were heading here for drinks on a date or with friends. I could hear the manager training the staff while I was sitting there so obviously they're still sorting that part of it out. That being said, my drink was perfect when it arrived - a virgin apple mojito, very refreshing on a warm Glasgow day. The drinks menu is comprehensive and has a wide range - although there's some really odd offerings in there. Peanut butter & jelly martini (with actual PB in it), Blue WKD and Red Bull & vodka aren't drinks you see at most bars. They also offer a cocktail tree with 9 cocktails on it - perfect if you're with a group (you all have to get the same cocktail but it is just over £40 which is good value for money). Draught beer includes Peroni, Estrella Dram, Longhorn IPA, Schiehallion, Amstel and St Mungo. I had a brief look at the food menu but it was a bit less interesting than the drinks menu and nothing really grabbed my attention, apart from the burger on there at a whopping £14.95. I mean, Glasgow loves burgers but that is probably the most expensive one I've seen so far (granted, it does have a beef patty, chicken fillet and pulled pork on it) With 50% off food on a Monday, half price cocktails on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 2-4-1 desserts every day (plus lots of other promotions) this is the kind of place to go if you're looking for a good deal. However I order a medium rare steak which hadn't been left to rest and it had bled all over the plate, this wasn't very pleasant, upon complaining I was offered free drinks, as I said the customer service was brilliant but the issue with the steak was a let down.

The chilli cheese dog was unfortunate - the "chilli" was just a small layer of dry ground beef underneath the hot dog. I asked if they had mustard or pickle relish because it had no flavor. They brought me a bowl with packets of brown sauce and English mustard, and someone went and found Sriracha (which I like, but had not mentioned or thought of - but I think they just got confused at the word "relish"). Maybe the other food is better, but how can you screw up such a basic thing? It was the driest chilli cheese dog of my life.

Nic's made my daughter a box of beautifully decorated donuts for her birthday that she was able to pick up on her way to class the morning of her birthday. The staff at Nic's were super helpful and even allowed my daughter to pick up the surprise baked goods at 9:15 when they only opened at 10 AM. And she reported that they were delicious! I was able to order, prepay, etc. - super easy! Thanks so much Nic's for making my daughters abroad birthday so special!

I'm a massive fan (see previous review of their St Enoch Square branch) but the only day I can make it to Nic's is a Saturday due to their opening hours and me working relatively far away. So when I heard their new establishment would be open til 11pm, 7 days a week, I was pretty excited to say the least! It's so great that the Nic's concept has really taken off, especially since most new places in Glasgow seem to be massive chain burger joints these days!!! For those who might not be aware, Nic's NYC Deli is just that. They serve glorious pressed sandwiches with delicious flavour combos, hot dogs, taco bowls and pancakes among other tasty offerings - like their amaaaazing doughnuts and American goodies such as Twinkies (which I definitely want to try at some point, just because!) This branch also has the extra addition of crepes (sweet and savoury!) so those who frequented this place as a Crêpe à Croissant can still get their fix. There's always the worry that another branch won't quite have the same feel as the one you're used to, but I'm happy to report that this definitely isn't the case with this one. I absolutely adore the decor, it's really cool without looking like it's trying too hard and the whole place looks fab! As for the food, it is as delicious as ever! The bf opted for a chili dog last night as he hadn't tried their hot dogs at all yet, and he absolutely scarfed it down, totally loved it. I got their LA Club Lite (chicken, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes and either chipotle or dijon mayo) since I hadn't had that one yet and I flipping love avocado and bacon together. It was brilliant, the bacon was done extremely well which I love, and their ciabatta bread is very tasty indeed. We were gonna get some doughnuts to take away, but our server offered us a free one each since they've just opened! Result!! I've got a Snickernut sitting in its wee bag under my desk right now, but since it's lunchtime I have a feeling it might disappear fairly soon... What more can I say? The staff are great, the food is great, the prices are great too - I think all in we paid about £12 for our food and a drink each which, for the quality and size of everything is pretty darn good! It's extremely reassuring to know that if I feel the need for a Nic's I can just pop along and get one...the downside being this might happen far too frequently from now on!!!
