They charged us $115 for a heartworm test that our dog didn't need (and is $50 or less anywhere else), did a $110 ultrasound that also wasn't needed (we already had X-rays), and then recommended further testing, and said additional meds would be needed after tests confirmed her condition. The final invoice included these meds even though she hadn't had the test. This clinic's main focus is on making money - NOT YOUR PET.

Sounds reasonable, right? Wrong. They called my husband and told him it was going to be $1200. WTF. First, our dog needed to be heartworm tested before beginning. Umm...why was this not mentioned when we did the blood work a few weeks before??? Vet tells us that they cannot start unless this is done, fine. Okay, that's $85. After examining, he needs to have some teeth pulled. That's how we get to the $1200. Are you freaking kidding me?? How much to pull a tooth?? Who has that kind of money???? Not me!! My husband gets the price down to $960 and tells them to do whatever they need to do and moves on. The vet then calls back again (while my husband is working and cannot answer his phone) and leaves a VM telling him she needs approval (he already did this) and that we would be billed the wait time for anesthesia. No, I don't think so. My husband forwards me the VM and I call the office. I am told that I'm not listed on the chart and they cannot speak to me about MY dog's bill. I have brought my dog in several times, made appointments, paid for services, and have never been told I'm not listed on his chart. That's odd. I call the office manager (at a different location) and tell her the situation and how unhappy we are with this. Again, we have been coming here for several years and have not had an issue until now. The vet tech or receptionist, I'm not sure who she is, is laughing at me on the phone because of how distraught I am over the price and that they cannot discuss the bill with me. There's no HIPAA protection for dogs! If someone states that they are the dogs owner and responsible for paying, you should discuss the bill with them. She then proceeds to laugh and tell me that if my husband knew he wouldn't be able to answer the phone, then he should have told us that. I'm sorry. He didn't know that his WIFE couldn't discuss OUR dog's bill with you. Also, he already approved, so why are you calling him telling him it's going to be extra because you are waiting for the approval. All in all, do not quote $600-$700 for a teeth cleaning. The quote should have been $600-$1200. We had to save just to get the $700 for the cleaning and now being told it's going to be more than that is unacceptable. Give people realistic quotes! Especially in today's economy where we are all scrapping pennies!! Due to the lack of professionalism by the VET, VET TECH, and Office Manager, we will NOT be returning to this office! PRICE GAUGING at it's finest!!!!!!!!!

I paid $900 and they didn't even bother to think about bringing out some gauze or tissue. I called and was placed on hold when I tried to get some and just eventually left because it took too long. The receptionist apologized but kept saying but after the apology, sorry but she did get a lot of teeth extracted. However, we'd like to keep him overnight for observation. In order to do that, we would need $2k today." I called my bf and she gave them $1k. After a little bit they called again, "We can't stop the seizures and we recommend euthanizing him, if you can't afford it!" I added my hubby to the call, he's an otr truck driver, and they told him the same thing. I told them to give us few, to let us talk it over, and I would give them a call back. We decided to have my bestie go get him. That way, WE know, that we'd done EVERYTHING we could. That was 4 1/2 years ago!! They told us to euthanize our baby!! I will tell EVERYONE/ANYONE "DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS PLACE!" As you can CLEARLY see, he's happy and his seizures are controlled by medication from Whitehall Vet Practice. This Animal Emergency Hospital NEVER listened when I specifically told them "He has never been separated from us! He has a Mommy & Daddy and he has a Mommy & Papa. He's been with us since he was 9 weeks old and he's been with us or his other parents! He doesn't even get left home alone! He was TERRIFIED! He was shaking uncontrollably! We had taken our animals to Cottonwood vet since we moved here in 2020. Last year our cat was…read morediagnosed with lymphoma and we had to put her down. In early February our dog developed a mass on his neck. Dr. Childress at Cottonwood said he had enlarged lymph nodes in his neck, suspected he had lymphoma, and aspirated the mass. The mass contained lymphocytes and lymphoblasts, and Dr. Childress confirmed lymphoma with this testing. He did not send the sample out for staging or do any other tests. Our dog also had no other symptoms. He started our lab on steroids to reduce the size of the lymph nodes to give him comfort and said we likely had a month or 2 with him until he succumbed to the disease. After a few days it dawned on me that no other labs were done initially. I took him back to Cottonwood at by that time he had elevated glucose and concern for pancreatitis. Granted, steroids may have been clouding the picture by this point. I asked for a second opinion so he was seen at Blue Pearl and ultimately diagnosed with diabetes. They saw no evidence for lymphoma or pancreatitis. I had asked Dr. Childress about the possibility of diabetes and asked if he could check his urine and he said the elevated glucose was from steroids. He did not test his urine. By the time he was seen at BP he was in ketosis and probably 3-4 days away from dying. Dr. Childress called me after the initial visit at BP and doubled down on his original diagnosis of lymphoma, disregarded the diabetes diagnosis completely and said "I think more is going on." I haven't been back to Cottonwood since. I established him at VCA Allendale and when I was explaining this history to the VCA vet she had me describe in detail and show her where the neck mass was and she said based on location and description it was likely an enlarged salivary gland and not enlarged nodes so he never should have been started on steroids in the first place. Giving steroids to an undiagnosed diabetic can have fatal consequences. Circle back to our cat also being diagnosed with lymphoma from Dr. Childress last year and now we're questioning if she also didn't have lymphoma since, as best we recall, she did not have enlarged nodes and never had anything aspirated to sample. She was losing weight despite eating, peeing more, and drinking more, all symptoms of undiagnosed diabetes. I recommend going elsewhere for your pets.

We've had 2 small dogs (13lbs), have done or immunizations here, 4 teeth cleanings with teeth removal, illness, injuries, allergies issues, personality issues in our second dog that we adopted from another family, and putting down our first dog 2 Weeks before his 17th birthday. They've compassionately walked us through every problem every step of the way. I can't say enough good things about them.
