We rescued two small mixed dogs in November. When they were found as strays, Wayne and Garth, were very neglected and both were over grown and matted. Only being cleaned up once they were rescued, we needed groomers that would be patient and sensitive to their situation. My mother-in-law, who has lived with us for 2 years, takes her Shih Tzu, Tiny, to the Animal Den since she's been with us and they always do a great job. Today we brought all three dogs for grooming. The trio look AMAZING! They were happy and and showed no signs of being stressed by their day. I couldn't be more grateful or impressed with the job done today for my fur babies. We love this place! We struggled to find a good boarding place for our dog. From where we live this place is a little out of our way (20 mins away) but we liked it so much we were willing to make the drive. They treat each animal like their own and are very thorough with new animals/owners. We have boarded our dog for a long weekend and dropped him at doggy retreat to get in some play time. You have to do an evaluation before your dog is allowed into the retreat but it's very simple. They ask a lot of questions then keep them for the day and watch how they are with the other animals. Couldn't recommend them more! The owner takes great pride in his business as well. My only complaint is that I wish they had half day rates for drop off and pick up days. So If you pick your dog up at 9 am you still pay for the full day. I know this is common but a half day rate would be nice to have the option. read more

The Animal Den prides themselves in that they value quality of pet care over everything else. On face value, this image holds up. Overall the facility is clean, and the MAJORITY of the staff treats the pets like their own. However, in the time I have worked there, I have grown all too aware of the selfishness and greed that allows this company to prosper, all thanks to owner Will's prioritization of money over quality of care. Some of what goes on behind the scenes both makes me uncomfortable as an employee and sorry for our customers and their pets, because when it comes to an extra penny here or there, honesty and quality of care are sacrificed. This is especially the case during holidays/travel seasons, when the owner deliberately overbooks the facility, meaning more pets are in the facility than there are dens to hold them. Your pet may be spending their stay in a small drying den meant for temporarily holding bath dogs, yet you will pick them up believing that your money was going towards your pet staying in one of the actual, full size dens with an indoor and outdoor area. Worse yet, if your dog is booked for the more expensive Deluxe Suites, it is very likely that they will not be in here at all, but that instead your pet spent their time in the standard kennel or one of the smaller drying dens I mentioned, never to be refunded or even notified. Deluxe suites only holds 4 dogs, but again Will overbooks to the extreme. I have seen him go as far as 9 dogs over holding capacity. The owner goes out of his way to cover this up and puts staff in the uncomfortable situation of deceiving customers. This ranges from "walk their dog around the outside of the building so it looks like they are coming from the direction of deluxe suites" and "move their dog out into a real den in case the owners ask to come back." Busy holidays are not the safest time for your pet to board, which is incidentally when most people need to board. Cleaning is often forgone and mistakes are made due to lack of staff, such as dens left dirty with old water because of how quickly dogs are being shuffled in and out. I strongly advise that you board your pet here with caution, and look into other options. read more

This is the only place that we let our pups (pictured in my profile) stay. This is lterally there "hoe away from home". Will and staff are great. The place is super clean (none of that urine and bleach odor lingering which you often smell at pet boarding places). The reason for the 4/5 stars on this review is for our last visit and concerning the staff. Long story short, they had asome trouble splitting our stay and grooming onto 2 seprate forms of payment and it became an issue for us. Other than that no complaints. Clean place. Took my dog there for a night of boarding. The staff was very friendly and professional. The facility is clean and warm. For standard boarding, dogs are put in cages that open to the outside so they have a space indoor and outdoors. My pup seemed happy when we picked her up. Will likely go here again. Four stars rather than five because it seemed a little pricey. One night, because it was more than 24 hours, cost us $56. read more

Dog was picked up with multiple open wounds and in bad condition overall, with no explanation. Do not leave your babies with these awful people who will just give you the runaround and not "know" nor care about your babies. Please deal any other location for the sake of your furbaby. read more

Trust is most important when considering the care and well-being of our 4-legged "kids"! So, we've been taking our 3 "kids" (2 dogs and 1 cat) to the Animal Den for more than 10 years because we have that trust in Will and his team! The kids have always been cared for as directed (with more individual specifics needed as they aged) and their lodging and the grounds have always been clean and safe. The team gets to know the kids, so they're always happy to make the visits and stay at the Den when we're traveling/racing. It's great that we can also have them groomed there on their day of departure! And, they can also pick up and deliver, if needed, in a very safe vehicle. This is the only place we consider for our kids! read more

I use Animal Den on a regular basis and have used them for almost 10 years. I had two dogs, who have since passed away, that were regulars at Animal Den. The girls were always well taken care of and all instructions for food, medication, and exercise were followed to the letter. I now take my new dog there and have since he was young. We bring our dogs here regularly for grooming. They are yorkipoos and have curly hair that is high maintenance. They are very friendly and our dogs love to visit. If you live in the zionsville/northwest carmel/ Whitestown area they are the most competitive grooming in the area. read more

Word of warning-I took my 2yr old Frenchie for an eval visit for daycare. Upon arrival, the staff were very rushed and not very personable. However, the facility looked nice and this place had decent reviews. I was told I'd be called mid-day with updates. I ended up calling 4 hrs later to check on him. I was told that he passed his eval but was later around a larger dog that "caused a scuffle". Imagine my fear. I rushed to pick him up. The staff were extremely nonchalant while I waited for him. I was told that he "had a few scratches to his ear" and was otherwise fine. I got him home only to find very obvious puncture wounds to his throat. We spent the rest of the day at the Emergency vet receiving treatment. I called the Animal Den on my way to inform them of what was going on-I was rushed off of the phone and never ONCE received a concerning word. After sedation, having his entire neck shaved, puncture wounds irrigated and repaired, I am now at home with my baby boy who is on 4 prescription meds for the next 10 days. This is heart breaking. While I am fair enough to understand that things happen, I have a hard time grasping how if the dogs were monitored appropriately, no one saw any precipitation of this other dog's aggression, which could have avoided this trauma to my pet. I don't leave this review out of malice. I leave it only to forewarn other pet owners. It is also meant to hopefully make management aware of this incident-as I was never able to speak to anyone in charge. It would also be prudent to be better staffed and encourage the staff to at least pretend that they were concerned about such a traumatic event developing while my beloved boy was in their care. read more

Based on the recommendation of a friend, I took my dog to The Animal Den for grooming & have nothing but good things to say about them! Beth was wonderful! She took the time to ask lots of questions & my dog immediately warmed up to her. They called when she was ready to be picked up and I was thrilled with the results. Its such a relief to have found a good groomer that I feel comfortable leaving my fur baby with :) HIGHLY recommend! read more

The animal den is a fantastic option for boarding your pets while you are away! Their location is conveniently located off of 65 - so even though we live in between broadripple and downtown, it's pretty seamless for us to take our two goldendoodles here a few times a year! We love the friendly staff and the location is a great atmosphere for your active pets! The outdoor options are great - a lovely real grass playground, an astroturf option is another fun one, a large field great for walks is perfect and the option to have cuddle and snack breaks is ideal too! Of course you'll pay for all of these - it's still nice to have all of these options when we're away! Also their grooming salon does a great job and we generally aim to have the girls either get a bath or a full groom while staying at the Animal Den. I love how they try and time the groom to be right before they go home - so they are all fresh and clean when they leave! A great boarding option for when you have to be away! They also have a vehicle to transport your pets to and from your house if you so choose! read more

My little Taylor loves going to daytime retreat at this place! The staff is amazing and they really go out of their way to make sure both myself and the pup are comfortable! We have tried other daycare places and Taylor has NEVER had a good experience..until we found The Animal Den! If you plan on going more than once, it's def. worth it to buy a package! It ends up cutting the cost a lot and it's 100% worth it. read more

Thinking about Boarding your Pet? BEWARE!!!! This facility, though nice and clean, good staff, have yet to practice, common business practices with their boarding prices. Recently there has been an increase, which is understandable, however, they state $30 'A Day', however it breaks down like this. Drop your pet off is considered a day, and the day you pick up is a day, regardless of the time. So if, as in my case, Dropped my pet off on Saturday (30 min before they closed), and picked up my pet Monday Morning (before 9) and was charged $90.... All the local, and equally nice pet boarding centers, practice the same (drop off is a day) however if you pick your pet up before Noon... They do not count that day as a full day... I wrote to this facility and they didn't even bother to contact me or explain the 'NEW BOARDING POLICIES the OWNER Implemented' and further ' Was NON-Negotiable"..... So Buyer beware... There are plenty of other loving and caring facilities locally that do a great job, if not better.... All I can say.. I was disappointed to say the least.... So if you care to just throw your money way... Then The Animal Den is the place to board your Pet... If you are budget conscience I would shop around since their Policy should actually read... 'It's $30 a Calendar Date'... Good Luck All.... read more

We just boarded our dog for Thursday through Sunday. It is our second time using this facility. The first time was for only one day to see how it went. They had been highly recommended by our neighbors. The first time for 24 hours was fine. Today, we picked up our dog after 4 days of boarding. She was filthy dirty with urine and poop!!! We took her from the car to the laundry tub before letting her put her feet on the floors of our house. I sent a bag of treats asking that she get 6 per day and we found the bag with all but two that I had sent. So someone either didn't read what was on the bag of treats or there were too many dogs in the facility to get proper attention to detail. What a $155 disappointment! read more

A safe, clean, friendly, competent and wonderful place to leave your pet. Wil and his crew love dogs and cats, they treat their customers with respect and kindness and have a great facility. Adding the grooming has been a nice touch so the doggies can get cleaned up before we pick them up. My only two suggestions: Pave the driveway (my dogs go crazy on that bumpy road) and speed up the intake and departure processes... they take toooooo long. Otherwise, a great place. You will relax knowing people who care and are professional are taking care of your precious one. We have used them since 1997 and always will. read more

I've been using the Animal Den for boarding services for years and can say that my dog actually gets excited about going there. They give her one on one time while she's there and she gets her own outdoor run. It makes me feel much less guilty about having to leave my dog. read more

I just want to make it known what horrible service I have received after my pups last visit to The Animal Den Pet Salon. I've taken my pups there many times and never had an issue. This time, however, there were many. I got a call from one of their groomers stating she had nicked Sophie's dew claw and it was bleeding. She just wanted me to know. She advised she was going to put her up and let her calm down while she groomed my other two pups. She called me back later and asked if she still wanted me to finish her even though she was bandaged up. Yes. I go and pick them up, they print the grooming bill, I sign the receipt and leave. The next morning I take off the bandage and realize that her dew claw was almost completely severed off and started bleeding again. I rush her to the vet. $140 later (including antibiotics and a mild painkiller) and Sophie is doing ok. I pull up my banking account and see that they charged me $10 over what I signed for on the receipt!! I call them and they said they won't refund the extra $10 because that was for transportation (even though they forgot to charge it to begin with) and because I didn't tell them of the problem with her claw and vet bill, they won't be refunding that either. They went Friday! This is Wednesday!! They were happy enough to issue me a $10 credit toward my next groom but because I won't be taking them back there, I won't get it at all. We recently boarded our elderly Shihtzu for a 4 day stay. Our trip ended a day early, so we picked up the dog earlier than anticipated. Upon picking up, the Owner said "Oh, he has some kind of discharge in his eye". Very casual. When they brought him out, his eye was completely bulged and ruptured. I'm not pointing fingers that this happened because he was at the kennel, as cornea ruptures do happen in dogs of this bread. HOWEVER, the fact that they didn't call me and preceded to groom him with his eye in this condition was completely idiotic. The groomer said "he seemed to be in pain, and did not want me touching that area when I was grooming him. You think? He basically had a hole in his eye. Sadly, at his age. the repair options were not suitable for him. We had to say goodbye to him the next day. Made me sad to think that his last 4 days of life, were in pain at this facility. read more

Saturday morning we dropped off our Golden Doodle for an overnight stay with a grooming appointment for the following Sunday morning with Beth. Our dog had stayed at Animal Den twice before and we had been pleased with the experience. This was to be our first experience with the groomers. We met with Beth before we left and discussed the grooming. She went over our dog thoroughly and we discussed how she would groom. Sunday morning Beth called us while we were out of town and explained that our dog had large hematomas on her ears due to shaking her head. She called a second time 45 minutes later and it sounded serious, so we left our weekend getaway early. When we arrived we found our dog shaking, bleeding and in pain. We immediately went to the pet emergency room and the Veterinarian found a laceration to the inside of the right ear that had to be closed with tissue glue, a clipper burn to the left ear and hematomas at the ends of both ears. The rest of her body has patches of raw skin and uneven hair. Our dog has to be watched 24 hours a day for the next few days with her head wrapped to keep her from shaking her head causing further damage. My husband and I have to take turns staying home to keep her still and comfortable. She may have to have surgery to repair the damage to both ears from the hematomas. We provided a copy of the veterinarian report to the Animal Den on the way home and requested that the owners call us. The manager on duty, Ashley, did not apologize or even act concerned. We have not heard from the owners at all! read more

I love this place! The staff is truly special and really cares about the animals. They are always willing to go above and beyond to make sure the animals are comfortable and the pet parents are at ease. Also, the facility is very clean and smells good! I have been taking my dogs there for years and they love it! I also highly recommend the daytime retreat. This was a lifesaver with my puppy! I can't say enough good things about this place and I feel blessed to have a place I can trust with my fur babies. read more
