Had issues filling out the form (asked for the names of any old pets). We we told to just put my partners family cat. I guess the shelter gets a vet recommendation, which makes sense. However, the pet we listed passed away years ago and the vet no longer had records. We've been trying to get clarity on how to adopt as first time owners and the buck just keeps getting passed to the next person at the shelter or we're told we'll hear back and never do. Entire shelter seems disorganized. Don't you want to place these pets into loving homes?

I am going to start this off with I know halfway home means well, and I am not the type of person…read moreto spend my time to write something like this, but I want to save others from the experience we had that is still harrowing our family months later. Besides also having a negative application experience as the other reviewers here have had (in retrospect we should have seen that as a red flag and abandoned the entire idea of adopting from them), we found the rescue does not properly vet their animals beyond a very basic physical exam and spay/neuter prior to being available for adoption, and they do not provide actual medical records when the animals are adopted out. Our family should have spent those first couple of months creating joyful memories with our new companion, not spending thousands at the hospital only to have to say goodbye due to a terminal illness that our vet and the hospital advised would have been caught if the rescue had run proper bloodwork prior to putting the pet up for adoption. We believe the rescue means well, but they clearly do not have the infrastructure, funds, or personnel to properly care for all the animals they are trying to save.

I called many times to report a lady that lived next door to me she got kick out and unfortunately…read moreleft all her cats behind the cats got skinny and I called multiple times and they told me they couldn't do anything and that they were full I couldn't let the cats hungry and skinny so I feed them and now that the cats are being mistreated by my neighbors I called again to get some help because some cats are injured all they could say to me was "is just stop feeding them they will go away" or " if you don't want the cats there just stop feeding them" or " is your responsibility now since you started feeding them" so I was just supposed to let them starve to death? A month passed and no one came for the cats and no one help them that's why I feed them I been trying my best to get them homes but a 18 year old who is in college can't do much I don't have the money to take them to the vet is 10 cats in total and they are all friendly they were indoor/ outdoor cats before the lady next door got kick out and this shelter just acted dismissive about the entire situation and saying "they don't take cats from the street" then why are they a shelter? I understand that they are full but they could've said it nicer they could've given me other organizations that could help me they could've have acted at least a little concerned because if they are a shelter they are supposed to help animals and love animals not just speak like they are a thing you can just throw out and leave hungry if I was a bad person I would've left the cats go hungry and let them get ran over because there is a highway near by but I'm not I'm really trying to help these animals and instead of getting help I was judge and treated like shit to the point after the called I wanted to cry of how no one is helping me instead they judge me so hard and basically implied it was my fault that the cats are there and that now I have to take responsibility I'm aware that I feed them and now they are my responsibility but they could've help and give me options not absolutely be shitty towards a person who did nth but feed cats that were left there to die for a month straight I saw them go from some chubby cute cats to literally bones. I called west haven animal shelter and they was able to give me numbers of other organizations that I could call they were wayyy nicer about the entire situation and they were trying to be helpful im hoping someone can help me give these cats the help they need
