This followed the annual membership meeting on the 17th, which itself was deeply troubling--but that's a separate issue. What's most upsetting is that volunteers who have dedicated years of their lives to this shelter are being removed for speaking up. One individual who was recently dismissed volunteered for over a decade, fostered dogs, cleaned kennels, and served as an intake coordinator. These are people who give their time freely, who care deeply about the animals, and who are essential to the shelter's daily operations. Instead of valuing experience, dedication, and concern for animal welfare, leadership appears to be prioritizing ego and internal politics--things that have no place in a humane society. This lack of integrity and leadership ultimately harms the animals most, as volunteers are fired or leave in frustration, leaving fewer hands to care for dogs and cats who depend on them. I'm sharing this because people are being silenced and removed for making their voices heard. Transparency and accountability matter--especially in an organization entrusted with the care of vulnerable animals. Do better.

We ended up adopting 2 adorable kittens from the same litter - brother and sister I saw photos of these rescued kittens from the Meriden humane society & my gut told me to call immediately and be persistent. I knew it was meant to be. The place is run strictly by volunteers & they were so wonderful and helpful - expediting my application & personally spending 20+ minutes speaking with me on the phone on the process & all the ways we can ensure our application is completed quickly. The kittens were living with a foster mama & papa (who were incredible). They raised such amazing, well-mannered, loving, polite, friendly, and snuggly kittens. I felt supported from the start & continue to feel supported as we transition. The kittens have transitioned so well. We truly feel like a family.

They also greatly assist in reuniting lost pets, and saving kittens born to feral moms from continuing the cycle by getting the kittens adopted. They care for several colonies of feral cats and assist in their vet care all through donations. Personally they helped my family trap neuter and return a feral cat we had in our backyard and we adopted her kitten who turned out to be the most wonderful addition to our family.

My husband and I recently moved to New Haven and needed a pet sitter for our little menagerie (five cats and a dog!) when we travel. To complicate matters even more, one of our cats is 19 y/o and on four different medications. Four Legged Care has been completely awesome! They have affordable pricing and are extremely communicative. Colleen has been our sitter and is very sweet and thorough. She follows the instructions we leave for our pets and sends us tons of adorable videos and photos. She goes above and beyond every time. Most recently, our flight was canceled coming home from a trip and within minutes of notifying Colleen, she figured out a way to accommodate our last minute, extra day request. We described the kids of cat that would fit in our household with our resident cat. Mystic not only fits in but lights up our household. The communication was excellent during the adoption process. We were so touched hearing Mystic's rescue story on a cold December night, and her BCC rescuer clearly cared so much. It was wonderful to connect with her and hear the story of our cat that only she could tell us. I could not recommend this caring organization more highly.

I also got an immense amount of support as I worked to bond with my 2 year who was working through socialization/adjustment. They made time for phone calls, texts and support--even on weekends. They are also a group of volunteers who are trapping, vetting, feeding, socializing and doing all of this takes many hours. Compassion is who they are and what they deserve.
