I'm familiar and a fan of Chapman University's Prof. Tamiko Washington's varied work. So when I heard she was staging a variation of "Hamlet," I knew I wanted to see it. This is an annual late August festival.

This story is one of 34 short stories and essays contained in The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. which was published in 1820. This was the first time Irving was to use the pseudonym Geoffrey Crayon, a name he would continue to use throughout his literary career. The Horseman was believed to be a Hessian (German auxiliaries contracted for military service by the British) who had lost his head to a cannonball during one of the nameless battles of the American Revolutionary War and his body was buried in the yard of a church not far from the town of Sleepy Hollow. The body was laid to rest, but the dominate spirit of the Horseman rises every night to return to the battle in search of his head ... or perhaps a comparable replacement! Rohlinism: See ladies ... this what happens when a man goes through life or the afterlife "headless!" The rest of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow revolves around a love triangle involving Ichabod Crane, Brom Van Brunt and Katrina, who was the only child of a substantial Dutch farmer named Baltus Van Tassel. Ichabod was the new schoolmaster and instructed the 18 year old Van Tassel in psalmody. Brom was a skilled horseman and his muscular build made him the arbitrator in all disputes. Both men had their sights set on acquiring the hand of Katrina in marriage. One evening after a town dance, tales of sightings of the Hessian were shared and Ichabod chose this evening to make his play for Katrina. On this unfortunate evening, his advances were rejected by the heiress and Ichabod left the dance with a heavy heart. Depression would lead to terror as Ichabod would encounter the horseman while riding home. The next morning his horse would be found saddleless, Ichabod's hat was found next to a shattered pumpkin, but the schoolmaster would never be seen again in Sleepy Hollow! Irving implies it was Brom, disguised as the Horseman, was responsible for Ichabod's disappearance, but he does leave some room for interpretation. Ichabod Crane was seen later in New York City, where he eventually became a justice. Through the centuries, the Headless Horseman has become as synonymous with Halloween as witches, ghosts, jack-o-lanterns and trick-or-treating. The Hessian has been immortalized in movies, television shows and animated features. An eerie soundtrack follows Ichabod Crane, two lantern barriers and the Hessian as they navigate the designated route and herald the coming of the Frightfully Fun Parade. The Headless Horseman is mounted on a midnight black steed and carries a lighted jack-o-lantern. Sam always seems to have a spare head or two hanging around! The specter rides down Main Street USA about five minutes before the Frightfully Fun Parade. If you are at the event and decide to observe the parade, just remember not to lose your head! The Horseman is one of unique attractions you can only witness during Mickey's Halloween Party and one of the reasons I would be willing to pay the price of admission to return to this event in the future.

We came here while at the OC fair. This is a really nice museum showcasing vintage military items…read moreand history. The outside is well maintained and has a plane on display. The inside is nice and air conditioned for when it's a hot day. I liked seeing the vintage military medical equipment and some of the old uniforms. Very interesting.

Heroes Hall Museum is located inside the Orange County Fairgrounds and admission is free. Built…read moreupon the old barracks of the SAAAB - Santa Ana Army Air Base - it has a fascinating exhibit each time I visit. Right now, it's a poignant display of Vietnam memorabilia running through December 2025. Downstairs, a rotating exhibit is featured. Upstairs, it's all about the SAAAB. There is a tiny gift shop and clean restrooms on the bottom floor to the left. There's an elevator for handicapped usage to the right. A veteran blows taps on a bugle outside at 6 pm each day. It's a very moving experience. This strikes me as being so melancholy but reminds us of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Also outside, you can color (felt markers provided) and write a message to a Veteran on provided postcards. There's a cool A-4 Skyhawk fighter plane right outside too. The current Vietnam exhibit has a heartbreaking journal by a P.O.W., complete with calendar of days/weeks/months held. A diary by another soldier lists the names of his colleagues who perished. Heartbreaking. Upstairs, you'll learn that 1,000 German P.O.W.s were held here on the base and they worked the orange groves with a quota of 36 boxes each day. The fastest workers could achieve this by 12 noon. Upstairs, displays / testimonials / details regarding the surprisingly diverse people who made up the WWII military at SAAAB are featured: Gay & Lesbian, Black, Hispanic & Chinese- all helped with the war effort. Both upstairs & downstairs, the roles that female soldiers played is celebrated. This museum is well-worth a visit!

Saw the world of Color show at 9pm. This show is simply amazing. Disney fantasy water show was…read moreawesome. The lighting, sound and water synched into one production. This has got to be the best water show I have seen aside from the Las Vegas Fountains. The show is called the ONE and it did not disappoint at all. Just to name a few, Star Wars, Coco, soul man was all being displayed on the Fountain projectors. Kids or no kids, this has got to be the show to watch at Disney California. There is non like this. You will have a great time with your family. The show itself was 20 minutes long. Not a bad production. No complaints. See it and experience it.

I wouldn't wait longer. As for the performance, using lights and water - wow - it's impressive. As for getting wet. We were at the front, and barely got some a little bit of . Basically misty. No, you will not get soaked.

This is a small live traditional orchestral organization…read morethat has both string orchestral and a wind orchestra composed of professional and quality amateur performers. They perform on the last Sunday of most months at the Servite High School auditorium which has good acoustics. The price for the ticket is a bargain compared to other live music venues and parking is still free & easy. The performances last about 2 hrs with a brief educational discussion of the music by the conductor for that evening. I had been attending their events for several yrs. Their seasons start in Aug and runs for about 8 concerts. They sell tickets at the door - $20 and $15 students/SCs. Great deal! We have always thought that it felt like having a private concert since it is a small venue with a terrific sound. Great live music. casual setting indoors. It starts early on Sundays. what more could I ask. Just noticed that their next concert is 8/28 and we will be out of town. darn. Oh - they have a website.

I am a professional musician from San Diego, but happened to see an article that an orchestra in…read moreAnaheim (where I grew up and parents still live) of all places was going to be playing a Mahler Symphony.Went to see Mahler Symphony no. 1 - I was pretty surprised that Anaheim even had an orchestra. I was raised in Anaheim/Garden Grove before going to Manhattan for my music degree, and never knew there was an orchestra in town. 1. For what I would assume is a smaller regional orchestra the OCS plays pretty well, especially under Maestro Parnther. The winds, percussion and low strings are the orchestras strength. The second violins had some interesting moments in places. Mahler is difficult, and one of the musicians said they did this concert in 3 rehearsals. In the SDSO, we prepared the Mahler 1 in 5 rehearsals. 2.The performance was a little unconventional, but it actually worked pretty well. They performed the first movement of Mahler 1 before intermission and the rest afterward, which I don't think I have ever seen done before.The conductor took time to explain the history of the work and played little excerpts of the whole work. This is unusual, and usually done in a pre-concert talk format. But the audience really seemed to respond to the conductor, who again is very informal and at times hilarious. 3. The audience, may I again add, REALLY seems supportive of this orchestra. After the Mahler, many people were screaming like they were at a Rock concert. I will admit the conductor has a dramatic flair and gets a lot out of the ensemble. Here is what I did not like. 1. I did not care for the piano soloist playing the Saint Saens Concerto. Honestly I thought she was terrible. I dont remember what the name was, but it was an extremely unmemorable performance. The orchestra played well regardless. 2. Apparently the OCS allows you to eat in the concert hall which I thought was highly unusual. They sell popcorn in the lobby and seemingly let people take it into the concert hall. Who does that?? it was a little distracting to hear someone eating popcorn next to me while the bass solo in the 3rd movement of the Mahler was being played. 3. The line to get into the concert was rather lengthy and not terribly efficient. There was a huge huge line to get inside the building, and it felt like my husband and I waited in line at least 20 minutes to get tickets. They need more efficient ticket staff. 4. I think the elderly woman who is the president or director (looks like an elderly Lucille Ball) of the OCS needs to learn a thing or two about public speaking. This woman yammered on senselessly for 15 minutes about a raffle and some other nonsense, and it really detracted from the professionalism of the concert.

THANK YOU Ryan C. for hooking me & my friend Alex W. with tickets to this film fest...you are an AWESOME CM Ryan C! =) There were some great movies here.; I've never heard of this event until now.. =) Some of the GREAT movies were: SURVIVOR TYPE (2012), Directed by: Billy Hanson & Written by: Billy Hanson (This short film is based on the short story by Stephen King). Cast: Gideon Emery as Richard Pine, P.J. Brown as Dr. Alan R. Hanson, Carolina Castro as Claire, and Cutty Cuthbert as Rob. A disgraced surgeon stranded on a deserted island with no food and only a handful of supplies, who must go to great lengths to stay alive for a chance to be rescued to that may never come. This was a pretty gruesome movie to watch & the main actor (Gideon Emery) did a great job of acting & the special effects & makeup was so realistic... =) IT'S IN THE BLOOD (2012) - Genre legend Lance Henriksen stars in the story of a father and son who become stranded in the wild. They must confront the horrors of their past to escape with their lives. On it's surface, this a monster movie. However, the nature of the monster is a carefully guarded secret. This was definitely a good movie to watch.. =) Deer Head Valley (2011)- A woman and her boy friend hold an innocent man captive in the middle of no where. The movie gets its name from the city which it was filmed in. =) Vicki (2012) - VICKI is a loving, comedic homage to John Carpenter's classic movie, Christine, adapted from the novel by Stephen King. This movie is also a home-age tribute to all 80's horror in general. A killer jealous car out to kill...great short movie to watch. =)

This was the first time I attended this game convention and there was a lot going on the day that I…read morewas there. It took up four decent size ballrooms on the third level of the convention center and seemed to be well attended. This convention is geared more towards the miniatures and less towards board games than other game conventions I've been to. There was also a section for Collectible Card games but since had no interest in them I didn't pay too much attention. Pre-registration was easy and my badge was waiting at check in, They had a nice program with all the weekend's events. The dealers room took up a little less than a quarter of the hall and had a nice selection of dealers that were well stocked with items that were being played and demo' d at the con. Like most conventions of this type you are around people that like the same things you do and are looking for new people to play with so everyone is friendly. If you're shy you will need to come out of your shell a little to get full enjoyment out of a gaming convention but this is a good one to start. With some support from attendees and vendors this convention will grow and prosper.

If you're phobic about dense crowds, then this may not be for you, however, one should attend at least once in their lifetime.
