Shredded Beef Empanadas, Arepazo Grill Venezuelan Food Truck, Serving Lakeland & Tampa
    Brian M.

I'm really glad Arepazo Grill Venezuelan Food Truck Serving Lakeland & Tampa visited our offices in Tampa. We were in the mood for something different to spice up our day! It's only my second time having Venezuelan food aside Nico's Arepas so I'm not an expert but I liked my meal. One of my coworkers who's well versed in Venezuelan food said the food was authentic and gave it his seal of approval as well! Arepazo Grill Venezuelan Food truck is mostly red with a red brick background, the colors of the Venezuelan flag (yellow, blue, and red), and has several pictures of various dishes they serve on the truck including: Tequenos, Cachitos, Empanadas, Cachapas, and Arepas. The Shredded Pork Empanada with Cheese and Black Beans was well Marinated and filling although I'd recommend getting 2 if you're hungry. 8/10 The Cachapas Corn Pancakes filled with Cheese had a sweet taste and was pretty good. 8/10 Pabellon Corn Pocket Empanada stuffed with shredded beef, black beans, sweet Plantains, and white cheese was also well Marinated and flavorful. I really liked the house made 3 hot sauces they provided which provided extra flavor. 9/10 The food took less than 10 minutes to come out and the lady taking the orders was pretty friendly. They didn't offer hot sauce, so make sure you ask for it! It's definitely worth getting for some extra flavor and an extra kick!

They could have put it in an enclosed container but for some reason they didn't

So never been here before thought we'd try it when we went up to the window the lady at the window did not speak English very well at all I don't think she understood half of what we were saying she had to ask the lady doing the cooking questions in Spanish. Originally we were going to order the empanadas but they were only had cheese left which was fine we decided to try something else instead. They seemed upset that I wanted a receipt I had told the lady that took the order but she didn't hear me I guess. The lady that was cooking asked that we get away from the window so that they can take other orders but they still had not finished taking the order of the people that were with us. They finally hollered out the window something and the people around us told us that I think it's your order and we finally got our order started walking away and I thought where's my soda and couldn't find it in the bag and that's when I discovered they didn't put the Pabellons in a dish that wasn't enclosed.... They were on top of the dish that was closed. (Crazy fries) so we went back up to the window and asked where the soda was and again the lady that took the order did not understand and then the other lady comes back over with an attitude yelled at me and says I'm working on it ma'am..... it's just a can of soda you can't hand me a can of soda? Or have the other woman give it to me? All in all it was a pretty bad experience and the food wasn't worth the price that we paid so one soda, crazy fries and two pabellones was $30.

An arepa + the yuca sticks - so good!!

New taste sensation. Will seek this food truck out after my husband and I had some amazing arepas behind Union Hall Thursday.

We experienced this as a food truck at Brew Hub and it paired really well with trying some craft beers.

We arrived Saturday about 4 for a bite. We grabbed a seat by the door. Our server was friendly. We looked over the menu and decided to to start with some tequenos. We placed our app order while we kept looking for our mains. Our tequenos came out first and looked great. They were served with two sauces that were quite flavorful. We both enjoyed our appetizer. We then placed our order for a chicken salad arepa and a cachapa with picanha steak for our main meals. Our cachapa came out about 5 minutes after we ordered. It looked good, but sadly it was cold. Both the pancake and the steak were cold. It wasn't fresh and wasn't reheated properly. It was pretty disappointing. We waited another 10-15 minutes and our areap came out. Thankfully, this one was hot and prepared correctly. The flavor was good and we both enjoyed it. Overall, our first visit was a bit disappointing. Being served cold and reheated food that wasn't even warm was less than ideal. I don't see us returning.

We were not that hungry, just kinda wanted a quick light meal. We went with two full hot dogs, which we absolutely loved! We also ordered a cheese pastelito which was fully stuffed with cheese Planning to stop by next time we're in town to explore the rest of the menu

After looking at reviews on Yelp, we decided to check out Alma Llanera in St Pete. We made the drive and were welcomed when we walked in. They have a great overall selection on their menu, a variety of authentic Venezuelan dishes you can dig in to. Really, we were craving empanadas - but we are eager to try more dishes next time. We ordered three carne mechada empanadas (shredded beef hand pies), one cheese empanada, and two mora natural juices. Each orderaccompanied with a side of their house sauces that compliment the natural on-going flavors of the empanda - a creamy, white garlic sauce (salsa de ajo) and a cilantro based sauce (salsa de cilantro). The moment you sink you teeth into their empanadas, you're brought to a whole new world - A country called Venezuela! You are instantly met were explosive delicious flavors. The outter shell of the empanada has this savory, with a slight hint of sweet flavor. The inner part is stuffed with tender, satuéed shredded beef, you can taste the amazing flavors of the sofrito based meat. I would recommend anyone, someone who has yet to try this place to someone who eats empanadas on a daily basis, to come on and give them a whirl. It's a must try!

I live close, so have come here quite a bit over the year…read more Pro- Just got renovated, so it looks pretty. The staff is nice, and the food is good. They also have lunch specials, which is nice. Cons- There is ALWAYS a weird perm smell when you go. It literally smells like someone is perming their hair, so not good. Another con is sometimes it takes long to get your food. And last but not least, I think their prices are not reasonable lately. Some of the prices do not match their menu, not sure when they raised their prices but I have never ever heard of a patacon costing almost $26 anywhere, and I frequent a lot of Venezuelan spots. Their name went from Q'Kenan restaurant to Q'Kenan Steakhouse so maybe now they just raised all the prices, I don't know. Their most expensive patacon on the menu is the one with Picańha and it says $17...yet I got charged 25.90. Regardless of how good something is, there shouldn't be a $9 difference from what is on the menu. That is absurd. On my last trip- $43 for an empanada, tequeńos and a patacon just doesn't sound right for Venezuelan food, and I come from living in Miami where restaurants are supposed to be more expensive. Add a tip and you're paying over $50 for street food. That's wild.

Ambiance: 4.5/5 Service: 4/5 Food came out at a decent time Food: 5/5 The soursop juice was delicious- it didn't seem like bottled juice! The Picanha steak was perfectly cooked and the tostones were some of the best I've had in a while! The arepas burriada was not what I expected (I've only had circular handheld arepas) but was absolutely delicious! All the components went well together and the fried thicker cuts/chunks of arepas were delicious! Price: 4.5/5 For Orlando prices, it wasn't bad at all. Usually, work takes us in that Orlando area once a year. We'll definitely be back!
